Removing black bars from youtube/altering aspect ratios for youtube

How do you get rid of the black lines on the vid on youtube using I Movie 08? I have tried using the crop options in I movie, and still cant get rid of the back lines above and below. The cameras aspect ratio is 4:3 and using crop options of “fit” or “done” does not fix it. For example, here’s an exercise vid I did.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EWgFDVI8Xs4
What is the cure for this? I notice when the vid is in the even library it’s in 4:3 as the source vid from the cam but is converted to 16:9 when moved to the project library. Is there any way to prevent that or convert it back to 4:3? I had thought the crop options in I movie would do the trick, but it does not from what I can tell.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums
Is your project 4:3, you set this when you create your project. You can check this by looking at the project properties from the file menu.

  • Removing Black Bars on iMovie Projects (Aspect Ratio / Resolution Problem)

    Hey folks,
I jusr recently recorded a video using fraps on my PC while playing World of Warcraft. I've transfered this over to my mac to import into iMovie and upon importing the file (using a DV Widescreen profile) there are two black bars on either side of the video.
I believe this is because my monitor is using a different aspect ratio (max resolution is 1680x1050, in otherwords not 16:9 as the profile indicates).
How can I configure iMovie to conform to the aspect ratio of the origional imported video? I know if I import the video and get it edited to the final version I want to encode, there is an option using the Divx codec to remove these bars - But i'd like to keep the video using the H.264/.Mov standards (Divx looks like crap IMO!)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

  • Remove Black Bars from Top and Bottom

    Here's my situation:
I shot my footage FULL FRAME (not anamorphic) but while shooting my footage I had markers on my LCD for a 2.35 Aspect Ratio.
Now that my footage is edited I dropped the FCP matte filter for 2.35
For those of you out there I know I did not use a anamorphic lens and I know I did not shoot it on 16:9 format. But is there a way to crop out the Black bars?
Again like the previous post I would like to remove the black bars and have my QUICKTIME MOV. play like the ones on APPLE's Trailer site: http://www.apple.com/trailers/
Can anyone out there explain how to do this? Other then just drop this and change the size...WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? If you can provide more step by step information that would be great!

    1. Create a New Sequence in FCP (Command-N)
    2. Bring up your Sequence Settings (Comman-Zero) and alter them...
2a. so that your Frame Size is (approx) 720x306
2b. set Aspect Ratio to Custom.
    3. Drop in your widescreen-filtered footage (they'll be shrunk, so...)
    4. Select your clip (or all clips) (Command-A)
    5. Remove Attributes (Option-Command-V) and select 'Basic Motion' then click OK.
    6. Your movie should now (pretty much) fill the 2.35:1 sequence.
You'll probably need to tweak the frame size slightly (It's been a while since I've done this so my number(s) might be off).
Also, when you (ultimately) Export Via QuickTime Conversion (for the web?), be sure to take into account that the web uses Square Pixels - so resize your QT movie (in the Save Dialog, under Options) to be 640x306. (Again, my exact numbers might be off)
    Good luck.

  • Black bars alongside video+squished aspect ratio on export

I'm trying to get my import/export settings right--I keep getting black bars and a squished or stretched image when my videos export.  Since Elements doesn't read MOD I've been using miro to convert, which doesn't like to export to mp4 all that well to begin with (which furthers my diagnosis problems.)  I don't know anything about video image->pixel size (nor can I find anything online that makes sense to me) and canon's website doesn't tell me what my camera is shooting in in those terms, but I've been using the widescreen format--what is that size??  I'm not sure if this problem is because of defaulting project settings on import (Elements not picking up on the proper format and defaulting to something else), an exporting problem (I've tried all the different settings under publish+share>computer>mpeg4 and quicktime>NTSC DVD standard and widescreen, as well as every other export option I can think of), or a conversion problem (why doesn't Elements accept MOD to begin with?  Final Cut 7 does no problem!)  Everything looks good in the editing process, plays fine etc.
Is this a simple fix?  The videos play fine in quicktime, but VLC catches the bars, which makes me think it's a simple solution to a complex diagnosis.  Please help, thanks.

    Thanks for the update.
Let us look into the following next, one problem down (the aspect ratio), next the quality of playback of your Timeline as seen in the Edit Mode Monitor.
    1. Given that you are working with .mod widescreen 16:9.
    a. Open a new Premiere Elements 11 Mac project. Go to File Menu/New/Project and set the project preset yourself in the new project dialog. You want NTSC DV Widescreen. Make sure that you have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on this Project" before you exit the new project dialog.
    b. Once back in the Premiere Elements workspace, go to Add Media/Files and Folders and import your mod.widescreen into Project Assets.
    c. Right click the .mod widescreen file in Project Assets, select Interpret Footage, and, in the Interpret Footage dialog, dot the Conform to: and set that to DV/DV NTSC Widescreen 16:9 (1.2121).
    d. Drag your .mod widescreen to the Timeline from Project Assets. Do you see no colored line over the content, an orange line, or a green line? If an orange line, render the Timeline with the Render button or pressing the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard. Is the .mod widescreen now display the same, worse, or better than before we started all this?
Also, right click the monitor, select Playback Quality, and see if there is any difference in what you are seeing if you use Highest instead of Automatic as the set. Also check to see if Magnification there is "Fit" rather than other.
Is your video card driver up to date according to the web site of the manufacturer of the video card?
Please review the above and let us know the outcome.
    Thanks.
    ATR
Although conversion .mod widescreen to another format is always a consideration, it has not been found to be necessary in essentially most cases. Classically, if an import problem with this type of file, the renaming of the .mod file extension to .mpg prior to import took care that while Interpret Footage took care of the aspect ratio issue.
I just saw your note about MPEG Streamclip. That works great for Windows for conversion to DV AVI. Never tried it for a .mov export for Mac. But remember there is an option for 4:3 or 16:9 in that dialog (or there should be...I will take a look if you do not find it). So no distortion expected since MPEG Streamclip should be supplying that problematic 16:9 flag.

  • Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick

Hi, Can i Remove menu bar from second monitor maverick ?
    Thanks

Apple has sort of screwed up the whole full-screen / multi-screen features of OSX. I get it's hard to achive it all in a "perfect way" for everyone but the so called "improved" multi-screen features of 10.9 add a number of issue on top of the "fixes".
    1. Switching between apps with CMD + TAB is bugged with using 10.9 screen-setup. The OS doesn't understand what screen I'm using and the CMD + TAB feature shows up on screen 1 or screen 2. The only way I've found to controll this is by activating the DOCK on either screen which is a very bad solution.
    2. Spotlight searching always follows the "active" screen. At least 10.9 understands what screen is my active one but in this case I never ever want screen 2 to have Spotlight on it. Very irriting.
    3. Remembering application positions. If I open an app from the dock on screen 1, place it on screen 2 close it and again open it from the dock on screen 1 the app will open on screen 1 and not screen 2. Some apps will remember certain windows on the correct display. A solution is to open the app from the dock on the display you want it on. Very irritiating.
    4. Swiching between apps is also bugged. Concider I have mail on screen 2 and a new mail window on screen 1. I CMD + TAB to Safari on screen 2 after starting to write the new mail on screen 1. No problems here. If I now howvever CMD + TAB back to mail, the last active window (new mail window on screen 1) won't be active. Very irritating.
As noted above, going back to what we had in 10.7 and 10.8 solves these issues but doesn't solve Apples horrible fullscreen app issues. I'd go as far as saying Apple hasn't really fixed anything in 10.9 - only cause more issues and confusing behavoir. Fullscreen apps are often very lacking in funktion, having safari or mail fullscreen renders them on a large screen very very limited compared to "maximized". It's also very confusion that you are required to travel between virtual desktops to use full-screen apps. I personally would prefer the option of "layered fullscreen apps". For example VLC allows me to work this way.

  • How do I remove a black border from my 4:3 ratio movie, which only uses 4:3 ratio images?

    Hello,
I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 9. I have an audio file from a teleconference call and I am using images exported from a 4:3 PowerPoint presentation to create a video of the presentation. The image files are .tiff files, 960x720. This is the only type of file I am using to create this video.
I really need to get rid of the large black border which appears on ALL sides (left, right, as well as top and bottom) whenever I export. Exporting as flv, mpg or avi has no change. I also tried .png images, no change. Any ideas??
    Thanks!

My guess is that the 1280 x 720 was the last Project Preset used, and was still there, when you chose New Project.
As for your output, will you be outputting an SD (Standard Def), or HD (High-Def) file for uploading?
Do you ONLY have the TIFF Still Images, or are you mixing in any Video?
The Frame Size difference, between the 960 x 720, and the 1280 x 720 will cause black borders. The two choices are to use the 1280 x 720 Project, and then use Motion>Scale to increase the Scale of your TIFF's. Note that the Aspect Ratio of those TIFF's does not match the 1280 x 720, so to get rid of ALL black borders, you will Scale up the TIFF, and effectively crop your TIFF's. If there is no margin on your TIFF's, that can be a problem.
As PrE only supports standard Video Frame Sizes, there will not be one that matches the 960 x 720.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Flash CC optimizing for iphone 5: How to remove black bars

iOS test app i created in Flash CC is installed and functioning fine on my iPhone 5.
However, the app is optimized for the 640x960 screen and not the 640x1136 iPhone 5 sceen.
I'm only testing on the device, not uploading to the app store.
Can someone please point me in the direction of the correct code to optimze for iPhone 5 for device testing only?
    THX!

This is really a loaded question. There's no simple answer and multiple strategies.
One strategy is the bleeding edge method. In that, you set the stage to scale NO_BORDER and exceed the stage in all directions with your artwork. That way it scales in aspect ratio to the device size but the images that bleed outside the edges of the stage will fill the black bar area. You then focus all your controls towards a designated 'safe area' for the device and assume the extra space may or may not be seen.
The harder but better method is NO_SCALE where you program like an Android device. You program your app so it detects the devices resolution and position all elements based on the available area. That means everything is constantly calculated based on available space, so it's a ton of extra coding, but it puts you in a very good port position for Android.
Bottom line, there is no magic bullet or Staples "Easy Button" to make your app work perfectly on all the (now) fragmented resolutions of iPhones/iPads.

  • Export to PDF slideshow - how to remove black bars?

    Hello,
I'm using PE6.0 and need to output a PDF slideshow, which I have done successfully. HOWEVER, there are black bars on the sides when viewing the slideshow in fullscreen mode. I am assuming this is part of the way Acrobat displays its fullscreen mode. Does anyone know how to get the slideshow to actually display in real fullscreen mode? In other words, how to get it to not show the black bars? Thanks.

The target size (1440x900) has the same aspect ratio (16:10) as my display, with which I am having the problem with the surrounding black space:
I have experimented with this for some time now and cannot eliminate the black bars.  In my case they are actually added to the individual slides when the pdf slideshow is created.  Sorry, but I do not have a solution or workaround.

  • How to change from 16:9 aspect ratio to 4:3

I've created a movie in iMovie09 using still photos that I cropped to the Widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio. It looks great, but now I want to change it to Standard 4:3. I can do this under Project Properties, but then when I play it, the right and left sides of the photos have been cropped off. It wouldn't be so bad except that many of this photos have text which spans the width of the photo; the sides of the text are cropped off. What I'd like to do is have the movie show in letterbox with black at the top and bottom, and have the entire photo displayed.
Any suggestions? I could go back to the beginning and recreate the movie with the 4:3 setting, but that will be very time-consuming. There ought to be an easier way.

You have already taken the first step, which is to switch to 4:3 in Project Properties.
Now, select a still and open the Rotate/Crop/Ken Burns Tool (on the middle bar). It sounds like it is set to "Crop". Change this setting to "Fit".
    Repeat for all photos.
You can Edit/Copy the first still (after making the change). Then select the rest (using command-click or Edit/SelectAll). Then Edit/ Paste Adjustments.

  • How do I get CS4 Change Quality Presets to be used and remove black bars?

In Encore CS4 I CAN change the quality preset to what I want, but then when I go back to the project it does not stick.  I tried to get to transcode settings, but they are greyed out.  There does not seem to be a way to "USE" the quality preset I have saved!
This is a single video clip that I sent to Encore from Premier Pro CS4 so I could make DVD and BD's.  However it seems I am unable to make a DVD at 4 Mbps (so I can combine this Premier Pro Project with another on a single DVD) no matter what I try.  Also I notice the BD I made was not m2v like I am used to in CS3, and therefore are not sure I can combine it with a menu and another clip on a single BD as I have done numerous times in CS3 Encore.
I also notice as I look at preview, and then also when a made a default setting DVD that there are black bars on either side of the picture.  This was a 1440X1080 60i project in Premier Pro CS3 and I am desireing to make ait a 1920 X 1080 DVD.
Neither of these were problems in Premier Pro CS3 and I am thinking the way around this is to spend the day or two and redo the project in CS3.  I have done many projects successfully in CS3 and mistakenly thought I could just pick up the project in CS4 and be successful again.  If anyone knows how to resolve these in CS4, it would save this extra work, if not, I will join the crowd with CS4 "issues" and go back to CS3.

First, on the black bars.  I do not want them at all.  I cannnot post a screenshot now as
file attachments are turned off temporarily, but they are about 5% on either side.  Totally unacceptable especially when in CS3 when exported to Encore there are NO black bars either visible in Encore or in the resulting DVD's
On the options and is the preset saved.  I can close Encore and open it afresh and find the preset that I saved listed in the dropdown of presets with the name I saved it as and all the settings the way I want them.
On the issue of Transcode settings when selecting the resource...  When I select the resource in the Project panel, or in the Timeline tab, the Transcode settings is greyed out.  I have consulted the help screens and forums for various ways to change the transcode settings and none of the suggested ways work.
It looks like my CS4 install does not work the way yours does.  I am about to completely unistall CS4 and CS3 and all other Adobe products and try a fresh reinstall to see if that works.  Most likely I will simply reinstall CS#, since that works, and abandon CS4 for now as I am getting way behind on my work, and know I can finish with CS3.  I have also heard form others that Sony Vegas is really solid and does not have all these weird bugs such as seen in CS4 and CS5, and is a much less bloated product and does the encodings faster.  Since it is also less expensive, this seems too good to be true, but work a trial.  So first rip every Adobe product off  my PC and format the HD and start fress with JUST CS3 and get my work done.  Then try Vegas to see if it is as good as my buddies say, if so bye bye Adobe!

I want to remove that scroll bar from navigation pane.Tried increasing the height in the property of same but nothing is helping.
The expanded option should be ON and do not want to group characteristics shown in nav. pane.
Please suggest, if there is any other way to do that.

Why do you want to expand it? Generally when you click on Nav pane, it should show the assigned chars under it. No scroll bar comes up with  below settings:-

  • Removing scroll bar from Nav Panel & Work Area layout

    Hi Guys,
I have a requirement to remove the scroll bar which appears between nav panel and Work Area in 'Nav Panel and work area layout'.
I would like it to be as a single page as we get in narrow: wide layout.
Well I could just do it by using a narrow:wide layout, but the challenge is I also need the collapse/expand Icon which we get in Nav Panel/WA layout.
I am looking fcor help with either
    1. Removing the scroll bar from Nav Panel/WA layout
    Or
    2. Adding collapse/expand  icon to narrow:wide layout.
    Thanks,
    Yomesh

    Hi Yomesh ,
If you want to enable the expand/collapse icon , then you can set the property named Show Tray of the page to yes and then test . By default the property meant for showing the expand/collapse icon is set to yes . You only need to enable the tray and check .
I did not get the requirement that you have with respect to scrollbar . Where is that scrollbar appearing that you want to remove?

  • Aspect ratio on YouTube widget

Am I correct in understanding that a movie that you post using the YouTube widget has an aspect ratio that is permanently constrained to 4X3? Is there any way to modify the dimensions so they better match an HD letterbox format (16x9)?

    These are YouTube's recommendations.....
    ■ Video Format: H.264, MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 preferred
    ■ Aspect Ratio: Native aspect ratio without letter-boxing (examples: 4:3, 16:9)
    ■ Resolution: 640x360 (16:9) or 480x360 (4:3) recommended
    ■ Audio Format: MP3 or AAC preferred
    ■ Frames per second: 30
    ■ Maximum length: 10 minutes (we recommend 2-3 minutes)
    ■ Maximum file size: 1 GB
If you can't get it work correctly using the YouTube Widget, go to YouTube, copy the code and then paste it into an HTML Snippet on your iWeb page.

  • Exporting From HD and aspect ratio

    Hello, all:
Using Final Cut Express I am trying to export a sequence shot in HD to a .mov file. I have tried the presets, and they distort the final output, squished in from the sides, to fit a square aspect ratio. I have tried selecting the 720x480 aspect ratio in the custom settings, but it still happens.
Can you all give me a step by step to output a moderate sized (50 mbyte/minute) quicktime video from HD that does not have this aspect ratio distortion?
    Thanks,
    Eric Siegel

    http://www.fcpbook.com/Video8.html
For HD material you want to export in the same ratio as 1920x1080 or 1280x720 or 640x360.
