Removing Blinking Text from video footage

Hi Helpers:
I recently recorded a service at my church where we have three mounted cameras.  One of the cameras was malfunctioning and the word "Backup" is blinking in the top 1/3 of the frame for the entire service.  As luck would have it the malfunctioning camera is the only one that can capture faces as people enter during the mass procession.
I knew this was happening while recording but couldn't remedy the situation at that time.  I was able to frame most lf my shots so that the vital subject of the angle is below the blinking text in case I need to crop the video (which unfortunately will result in a blurry picture from that camera).
Is anyone aware of a way that I can use Premiere (CS4) to somehow remove the blinking text or perhaps other options aside from cropping?
It is a 50/50 blink cycle (12 frames on and 12 frames off) so there are a lot of frames that are good if there is some way to normalize the picture.  There are so many cool tools and features in PS and Premiere that I want to think there is something that can help me.
Thanks in advance for any ideas or assistance you have !!
Ned

Ned,
Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, if the camera has "burned in" the "backup" message, the best solution would be to use the Fixed Effects>Motion>Scale, and probably Motion>Position to effectively crop out that message, by the Frame Size. Just Scale up to the minimum to get that message off-screen (Positioning if necessary), and living with a slight bit of quality degradation. Scale to the minimum to get that message off-screen.
Now, depending on the background, surrounding the message, you might be able to use AfterEffects, and its Clone Tool, to clone some of that background, over the message, but this will require a bit of work, especially if there is much camera movement.
Good luck,

  • How can i remove JUNK TEXT from APEX

    Hi ,
In our project Apex has integrated with oracle apps, every time we will open apex front end from oracle application(EBS).so we have two kinds of instances 1) development and other is production
every time we export the apex application from developement instance and import in production instance . after imported into production * we got JUNK TEXT like "TEXT:TEXT" in apex front end* so how can i remove JUNK TEXT from APEX
    Apex 4.0.0.00.46 version
please somebody help on this issue
    Help would be appreciated
    Regards
    Narender B

    Hi,
It is not clear what you are seeing here. Also we don't know how you have integrated Apex with EBS. My guess is you have linked an Apex page to the EBS menu and when you click on the menu link you see the additional text on the Apex page.
You need to give details of how you have integrated Apex with EBS and where and when this additional text is being displayed for me to give you any help on this issue.

  • How can I remove ASCII text from a field when I use it in a query

How can I remove ASCII text from a field when I use it in a query?
I am running a select statement on a table that appears to have ASCII text in some of the fields. If I use these fields in the where statement like the code below nothing returns:
SELECT FIELD1 FROM TABLE1 WHERE FIELD1 IS NULL
But the field looks empty if I do a straight select without the where clause. Additionally, one of the fields has text but appears to be padded out with ASCII text, which I need to strip out before I can use this field in a where or join statement. I have tried using a trim, ltrim, rtrim, to_char, nvl, decode and nothing works. When I use excel to run the same query it looks as if these ASCII fields are boxes.
I have asked our DBA team to see what they can do to prevent these from going into the table, but in the mean time I still need to run this report.
    Do you have any suggestions?

Can you provide an example? I've been trying (for
example) "select translate(' test one', ascii(' '),
'X') from dual" with no luck.
Thank you.To replace space, you should query like this:
select translate(' test one', chr(32), 'X') from dual instead of select translate(' test one', ascii(' '), 'X') from dual Thanks,

  • Can I make a time lapse effect from video footage?

Is there a way to easily create a time lapse effect from video footage in Final Cut Pro 7?
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
    Thanks,
    LD

Depends what you mean by "easily".
I have hours of footage - too many hours to just do speed changes.
I think doing via speed changing may be the easiest way to do this. Once the footage is ingested, get it to the timeline and do your speed up. At least this gives you the option of trying different speeds to get the effect you want, and the option to vary the speed as needed.
Is there a way to automatically grab a frame and hold it for a half second or so every 30 seconds?
Yes, but it somewhat complex. You need to buy an app from the app store called SnapMotion 2 (which I think is around $3.99).
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/snapmotion/id548959270
SnapMotion allows you to take a video a file and pull still frames at interval you specify and in the format a frame size you choose, and save them as individual images.
So you would set up the interval you want (say 30 seconds) and SnapMotion will go through the file and pull an image every 30 seconds. You would need to do that to all your files.
(I have never done this with a file that was longer than 10 minutes, so you should check with the developer and see if it will work with very long - multi hour - clips).
Once you have all your pulled stills, then open QuickTime Player 7 and import the still images as an image sequence.
Once you have the image sequence built in QuickTime, export it in the codec you want to use in FCP.

  • Removing camera flash from video

Is there a way to remove camera flash from video clips within PE8?  If not natively, is there a plugin that can do this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Here are the best answers that I can offer:
    1) why do you go from Premiere Pro to Premiere Elements?
Actually, about 90% of my work is in PrPro. The rest is in AfterEffects, PrE and other NLE programs. Basically, I use those, including PrE, when they do something better than PrPro. PrE will accept a broader range of formats/CODEC's, than will PrPro, so I use it to Import those odd Assets, and get them ready for PrPro. Same with CyberLink's PowerDirector, and Magix MovieEdit Pro.
    2) How do you synch the audio and video  (I'm guessing that you record off-camera).  I synch it by eye and ear and it can be tedious.  I don't have time code synchronized equipment
Most of my shooting is actually done with camera audio capture, though usually through either a shotgun, or wireless mics, attached to and recording to the camera's tape. When I do separate audio & video capture, I slate, so that I have the visual and audio sync. When I am faced with having to do manual sync, I will look for the visual and then the accompanying audio, and just nudge and listen. This ARTICLE will give you some of the mechanics of the process.
    3) I don't know much about DD 5.1 SS and this is just from the point of curiosity at present, can it be a problem keeping long clips in sync?
I do not record to DD 5.1 SS, as that is a very expensive and technically challenging process. It takes six well-designed and well-placed mics, a multi-channel recorder and a mixing panel, run by a skilled tech. My DD 5.1 SS Audio is with regard to the music for my Projects. Some of it is recorded as 6 discrete channels and then mixed, while some is faux 5.1 and is "created" from 2-channel source material.
Much of the work from Hollywood is actually faux 5.1, in that the source material is seldom recorded in 5.1. Most is stereo and mono, and is blended from myriad sources. These can be SFX, dialog, ambient audio. Most of those are mono TO separate them out from any other audio sources. Narration is a good example. Few audio techs, would consider using a stereo mic for narration and would choose a very directional mono mic, so as to better reject other audio signals.
Now, I can take a mono SFX file and pan/fade (not in the terms of a "fade" Transition, but front to rear location) it across/around the sound stage. I can place that bumblebee anywhere that I want, when I want it with 5.1 SS Audio. I'd almost always work with mono sources, so that I have the pure signal with no clues as to the source location - I set those in mixing.
I must add that with regard to mixing of music, there are constraints on doing faux 5.1. If the material was not recorded on multiple tracks to begin with, the RIAA, and other organizations, greatly frowns on creating a 5.1 "master." That came after the failed quadrophonics experiments from the '70s/'80s. With Hollywood's music, the recording IS done multi-track in the studio/symphony hall, so it IS multi-track and just gets mixed down to 5.1 Audio. This will be about the only time that the audio is done multi-channel in recording, as few environments lend themselves to doing 5.1 during the initial recording. There are exceptions, like live concerts, but that is almost a genre unto itself.
Sync, in and of itself, is not difficult to maintain, but so much depends on the recording equipment. Many, using separate cameras and recorders, often find that there is sync drift, and need to establish the % of "cure." In the old cine days, we hooked our camera to the Nagra recorder, and chose which unit's crystal clock would establish sync. Then, we had a cable between the two. Nowadays with digital, it seems a bit more difficult. There are several recent threads in the PrPro forum about the sync drift between pro-level cameras and recorders. One user has found that altering his recorder's output by 104% fixes the OOS issues. Others need to test critically. The sync clocks in different equipment just does not match up perfectly, and there is usually no universal crystal clock that overrides the internal ones - like in the "good old days."
Hope that this helps. If I missed something, please let me know,

  • Exporting a JPEG in 4:3 from video footage in Final Cut pro is impossible

I'm trying to export a screen grab from final cut pro as a jpg. It's easy to export a jpg image, but as far as I can tell, it is completely impossible to export it as a 4:3 aspect ratio image. My video footage is all 4:3 but all of the jpg images I try to export come out squished into 16:9. This is driving me crazy!
    Here is what I'm doing . . .
Export >Using Quicktime Conversion >Format (Still Image)
From their I've tried every setting you can imagine and FCP still obstinately refused to allow me to export a jpg image in it's true proportions.
    Please prove me wrong.

Awesome! You rock moblie! Thanks a lot for the info. I was wondering why the image proportions were correct in photoshop (ie. 720x480, I thought those were 4:3 dimensions, but I guess it's just resolution?). I adjusted the image in photoshop to be 720x534 pixels and it looks fine now.
I realize this isn't the smartest question in the world, but why isn't 720x480 a 4:3 aspect ratio? I don't really understand aspect ratio all that well (as you can tell).
    Thanks again!

  • Removing green background from videos (Chromakeying)

    Hi,
I am currently trying to use JMF to remove green background from the videos I have recorded. I am trying to merge 2 videos ( 1 video in the background) and (this video w/green bacground removed in the foreground). Does merge.java from JMF do the job for the second part? Please help!!

Merging works only with one video sitting on top of another, but the top video positioned on the top left corner. Is there some way to have the top video positioned in the center? I am using the merge.java file from the JMF solutions. Any way to remove the green/blue background of a video using Java codes? Or is there a freeware tool to do so and then have the java program call it?

  • Time lapse effect from video footage NOT from sequence of photographs?

    Hi forum,
hard to find this with a search because most of the links are about using photo sequence.
Which effect can make the appearance of time lapse movies using video footage not photo sequence. Preferably I would like to have control on the speed at different sections.

If you want to simulate timelapse with standard video all you should have to do is speed up the footage. IOW, retime a 1 hour take to 10 seconds and it will look like timelapse.
If you want to simulate long exposure timelapse (like where the lights of cars are streaks) then you have a lot more work to do. You'll need to use something like the Echo effect and then adjust the timing. It would help if we knew a little more about your project. I've been shooting timelapse for more than 40 years and I've used about 100 different techniques. It's hard to replicate all but one of them using a video camera.

  • Need to remove timecode counter from video

I have some clips in FCPx that were converted from an old VHS tape with the white timecode counter accidentally displayed.  I no longer have access to the original VHS tape so cannot reimport it without the timecode showing.
Does Final Cut Pro X have a feature or plugin that will remove or erase these timecode numbers from the screen by filling them in with surrounding textures so the numbers are no longer visible?  It doesn't need to be perfect.  I tried the Blur effect, but that just makes it blurry white.  VirtualDub Delogo works but is Windows only.  Thanks in advance

    Try this out:
    http://sight-creations.com/fxexchange/TCWmarkRemover.zip [free - license]
It does exactly what I described, with some extra optional enhancement tools.
To start with, don't stray too far from the default settings.
There's an onscreen control so you can drag the effect over the timecode (or watermark). Use the Size Height and Size Width sliders to cover the TC area. The rest can be used to "blend" pieces of the surrounding video into the space (but blur should still be used.)
    Brief explanation of parameters:
Offset Distance: there are 2 copies of the video used to fill the masked area. This parmater controls sliding the copies, one from above and one from below into the space. They are blended together.
(I consider all the following "expert" settings)
Max Stretch Horizontal/Vertical: These controls scale the copies. It is not recommended that you go below 85%, just because when the mask is close to an edge of the canvas, you'll not have enough material to fill the space.
Mode: How the two copies are blended together. There are two. Lighten and Darken.  They're both about the same except that in lighter video (surrounding the mask) Lighter will match better than Darker, and vice versa. It's not overwhelmingly important which you pick (there's more! see below)
Blur: applies a Gaussian Blur. Zero blur is available... recommended range: 200-400.
Feather: helps smooth the effect into the surrounding video... sometimes (it can create a kind of border effect OR a kind of "lens" effect.) You can do some interesting and/or weird stuff by abusing this parameter [along with Scale Height -- if you need > 400%, click and drag up on the number value.]
Roundness: lets you taper the corners
Saturation/Value:  These two parameters let you try to match the surrounding video a little better and can be used to enhance or override the Mode you picked somewhat. Typically, use the "lightest" touch on Saturation. Value is the parameter you'll use the most. Left of 1.0 is darker. Right is lighter. 1.0 is no change/default.
Center: this is the location of the Onscreen Control. Typically, a watermark or timecode is NOT going to move over the course of a clip. That said, who says you have to use this just for those two things   You might want to keyframe this to follow something...
All parameters, except the Mode, can be keyframed, so if you really want to work at it, you have the ability to minimize the visual effect that a portion of the screen is blurred out/obscured.

  • Remove Header text from a sales order, created with reference to quotation

    Hi all,
I have a sales order(in VA01) which is created with reference to quotation (in VA21).
If header text (Notes for logistics, Note for responsible person, Header text Doc & Declaration) in texts tab is maintained in the quotation they are getting copied in Sales Order which is NOT the requirement.
I need suggestions on how to disable the text that is getting copied.
Any pointers would be of great help.
    Regards,
    Vamsee Priya.

    Hi Nilesh,
I created a routine in vofm and this solved my problem.
Now, I'm having a similar problem where I'm creating an Invoice(through transaction VF01) giving the delivery document number and document type (Invoice F2).
we are maintaining Header text in Order through which the above mentioned delivery document number is created and this header text should get copied in the Invoice.
For this, I went into Transaction VOTXN, from there selected billing header, from here kept a break point for the routine BEDINGUNG_PRUEFEN_001 through which the text will get copied.
Now, when I'm creating the Invoice this routine is getting executed, but still the text is not getting copied.
Any pointers on this would be of great help.
Also at the end of your previous mail, you are telling about SPRO - text assignment. Can you please let me know how to I should navigate to this text-assignment??
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vamsee Priya.

  • Exporting text from video and reimporting after translation

We are building videos with the original in English but will be translated into a number of other languages.  I am looking for a way to:
    1. export all of the titles into a single text file with meta tags for each piece of text
    2.  they will then be translated into another language
    3.  import them back into the movie so that now the translated text appears in the same position, same time stamps, (and hopefully transition effects) as the orginial English.
My export title option is greyed out and I have not been able to find instuctions for this.  Any help is highly appreciated.
    - BB

Harm is partially correct when he says that this is destined to be manual labor - but it does not have to be so painstaking. A lot of the manual part could be taken out and that is what I am trying to find as a solution.
In response to one of the posts that questions whether a new video would have to be saved, the answer is yes - but that is the simple part, just rename it and save.  Now, instead of having to go through and manually delete the English text and add, say the Romanian, Arabic, or Mandarin, I was looking for a way that would automatically import and position the new text.  Yes, there is going to have to be some adjusting according to length to match any audio, etc., but this would be a much faster part of the manual process.
It seems as simple as an export that would gather all of the titles and subtitles into one text files and put the string ID's next to each:  time stamps, position, effect, font variables, and finally "text, etc., etc.."  We have already built tools that would further add string ID's for our translators, which would then replace the English with the new language and change the font variables.  With the rest remaining the same, the program should reimport it.  It would make a great third party plugin if somebody wants to build it - I'll buy it!
