This is my first post.
I have looked to see if there is a thread similar to my question and cannot see one so sorry if its a duplicate.
Using i-web I have a site currently online.
I want to take a couple of pages off the site but I don't want to simply delete them.
Can I store them where i can see them but omit them from being published when I update my website?

Create a second website in iWeb and drag these pages down to it.
Now publish all.
If you are publishing to MobileMe, the site with the extra pages will be published but not viewable from the URL for the top site.

ILife upgrade but keep old iMovie

I'm thinking of upgrading to the newest version of iLife and since my Mac's processor is not fast enough for the new iMovie, I am wondering if I will still have the option of just upgrading the other iLife apps but keeping my old version of iMovie? Will all the other new apps still be compatible with my old version of iMovie?

iMovie 08 is NOT an upgrade of iMovie 06. It is a completely new application. iMovie 08 is better for absolute beginners that don't want to burn a DVD. Most others will like iMovie 06 for its far greater editing power and ease of making DVDs. (Like creating Chapter Markers and Share to iDVD.)
Most owners of iLife 08 I know use iMovie 06.
iMovie 08 is a wonderful program assuming that you're using it for what it was designed to do, assemble simple videos to share on the Internet.
Remember that Apple includes iMovie 06 is a free download to iLife 08 owners. (THEY WANT YOU TO HAVE IT!)

Change hard drive but keep old settings? Is it possible?

I am a bit new to Mac, but liking it. Here's a question.
My sister has a 2.0 GHz MacBook with the standard 60 GIG hard drive. She has some applications and files and music and pictures, etc. on the computer. She bought a new 120 GIG internal hard drive and has asked me to install it for her. I looked up how and to do it, including formatting the drive, and it looks pretty simple, including with instructions from Apple.
Here's my question: I have an external USB drive. Is there any way I can copy the stuff that's on her current drive to that external drive, including applications, preferences and the like, and when installing the new drive move that stuff to her new drive so that we don't have to install all the software and apps again. Can this also be applied to the OS? A few weeks ago, I updated her OS (to 10.4.7) and firmware and other OS updates. Can these OS settings also be moved to the new drive from the external USB drive?

Yes, use Disk Utility's Restore function to make an exact copy of the internal drive to the external. Then swap the old internal for the new one. Then you can boot from the USB drive, open disk utility again, and clone everything back. If you find that you can't boot from the drive, just boot from the install DVD and open Disk Utility from there.
It sounds like your sister currently has no backups. She REALLY REALLY should get her own external drive and make regular backups to it. Super Duper is a good app for this.

Re-installing FCS and keeping old content question.

After a corrupted OS update I'm having to reinstall everything on my MacBook Pro. When I had previously installed FCS2, I installed the content on an external Firewire drive.
I'm re-installing FCS2 again but would like to use the content that was initially installed to save half a day!!!
So... If I exclude all the content during the new installation, do I just need to set the path to the old content on my Firewire drive in the prefs of Motion and DVD Studio Pro, and in the Browser of Soundtrack Pro?
Is there anything else I need to do?

Reformat internal drive but keep old backups

Now that college is over, I have some time to play around and fix some problems. I want to reinstall Leopard on my PowerBook after reformatting the drive. I do NOT want to fully restore from TM, just selected folders, such as Music and Pictures.
I want to continue using the old backups.backupdb. Do I have to do anything special on the fresh install of Leopard? I have backups going all the way back to the day 10.5 was released that I'd like to keep and access from the TM application.
Also, will it backup everything again after the fresh install?
Any advice will be appreciated. I don't want to do anything til I hear back I don't want to mess anything up.

what it comes down to is, can I trust that TM will perfectly restore my Pictures folder and Music folder (including iTunes)? I don't have enough room to duplicate my Music folder as a standalone on my external HD.

Getting new ipod but keeping old music

i just got a new ipod because my other one hit the sack. if i update my old itunes to the latest version and plug in my new ipod, will i be able to get all the things on my itunes on there no hassle?

yes i just did this.....i had a 3rd gen 15Gb and i just bought a 4th gen 40gb and i use them both on the same pc with one Itunes library. I had to plug the second one into a different firewire port on the pc for it to recognize the 2nd pod but they both work.

Authorize her computer for your account. She can then listen to and use all of the music on her computer. Authorizing it does not mean that she can purchase using the account, it only gives permission to use the music.

Migration Assistant but keeping old laptop

My girlfriend has a Ibook G4 which she and I both have a user account set up on. I have now bought an IMac for myself and we want to transfer certain things to it in order for me to use that machine primarily.
I want to transfer my user account in entirety to the new Imac but we also want to move the I tunes folder (which is under her user profile) because we have much more hard drive space on the new Imac.
All of her other settings must remain on the Ibook for her continued use. Can anyone recommend the best way to accomplish this? I guess I can use migration assistant to move my user account but what is the best way to move the Itunes folder?
As I am very new to macs, will the music files under her user account now be locked to me if I transfer them to my Imac and place them in my user account?
Is it simpler just to copy both user accounts onto the new machine and if so, will the files on the laptop be unaffected (copied rather than transferred).
I hope this is clear and any advice would be appreciated.

The Migration Assistant only copies, it doesn't wipe anything on the original machine.
I would recommend that you move both user accounts over, and then log in (on the new machine) as her, move the iTunes folder to the Shared folder (you'll see it under the main Users folder) and set its permissions so that you both can read and write to it (highlight it, click cmd-i, and go to the Ownership and Permissions tab - set all the values to Read/Write).
Then, log back in as yourself, and move the iTunes folder into your Music folder. When you launch iTunes, it'll recognise the library automatically.

New icloud account but keeping old icloud information

I broke my phone a few weeks ago and to get a replacement from my insurance i have to delete my icloud account, but i have an ipad which is linked up to it and i dont want to loose any of my stuff so just looking for a bit of advise about the best thing to do? any suggestions

If you are deleting the account from your phone, it only deletes it from your phone, not from iCloud. Doing this will not effect your iPad.
Or, are you asking how to delete the account from your iPad without losing data?

I had a similar problem recently and using the "more like this" feature I discovered an answer. To a problem posed by Holo7, who like myself was a newbie on this platform, b noir proposed a solution to Holo7's problem that also worked with my problem. It involves downloading a version of MS Windows Instal Cleanup and using it to completely remove all traces of the old version.
If you look at my problem (follow OldGit66) and the link to Holo7's problem then you will find b noir's answer which I think may help you. I am new around here so you might want to wait for one of the higher status correspondents.

Safari keeps opening old pages

Safari keeps opeing old pages even though I have closed them. It seems like I have several versions of safari open, but I don't think I do. I just did the latest software update and the problem continues.

You can empty the caches in Safari by pressing Option+Command+E keys. This will likely stop the behavior.
You might have to remove Safari plist files from User Library (might be hidden hold down option key under Finder window Go Menu>Library>Preferences>com.apple.Safari.plist.
Place plist on desktop or in Trash without emptying trash, then reopen Safari. This will recreate a new plist.
Finally you can "Reset Safari" which will remove various Safari settings. "Reset SafarI" is available under the "Safari" Menu…

If you did not sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone before creating a new one, then you will need to sign back in with your previous Apple ID and then sign out. If you do not remember your password and do not have access to the email account, then you can reset your password by using the security questions.

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
Settings
iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.
