Removing CS3

I just installed the CS4 upgrade and am trying to save HD space on my laptop. Will there be any effects if I remove the old program? Do I de-activate it first?

I have to wonder how old a laptop you can have and still run PS CS4? And ANY laptop's HD can be upgraded...if you have or can outsource the skills needed to do so! :)
Bruce...
You may safely remove the PS CS3 .exe/application. Just make sure you save all of your brushes, styles, gradients, actions etc. first so that you can load and use them in CS4.
It may just be a matter of dragging the .exe to the trash, but it'd be smart to keep checking back on this thread to see if there are any "gotchas" you need to be aware of.

  • How do I remove CS3?

    Hello,
I've just upgraded to the Creative Cloud but still have CS3 installed on my MacBook Pro. How do I remove CS3? I don't want to delete it completely, so is it just a case of copying to an external hard drive and then deleting from the MacBook? Or should I un-install and then copy?
    Thanks

    That is so lame…
That's not the news I wanted to hear but I guess I'll have to accept it.
    Thanks.

If you want to remove CS3, you must do so BEFORE installing CS4.
    >
Use the Adobe Uninstaller that was installed by default in Applications/
Utilities/ Adobe/ when CS3 was installed.  DO NOT just drag things to
the trash like we could do with earlier versions.
    >
If you already installed CS4, you MUST use the CS4 Uninstaller, uninstall
CS4 first, then use the CS3 Uninstall to remove CS3, then look for, download
    and install the CS3Clean script.

On the other hand, you don't have to remove CS3.  I have Photoshop 7.0.1, 8
    (CS), 9.0.2 (CS2), 10.0.1 (CS3) and 11.0.1 (CS4) happily coexiting on my
    machine.

  • What's the proper way to remove CS3 after CS4 install without screwing up Acrobat?

During CS4 installation, I had some serial number issues with Acrobat. It turns out that even though Acrobat is part of the creative suite, the licensing for it is different. I've got all of that sorted out now and CS4 is successfully installed. Now I need to remove CS3, but I don't want to remove any shared components that would disable or affect Acrobat.
Should I just remove the CS3 folders in my Applications folder or should I use the CS3 Uninstaller?

I can't run any of the CS3 apps because of the Acrobat licensing issue that I mentioned earlier. Therefore, they're just taking up hard drive space now. I also have a suspicion that CS4 and CS3 might be sharing resources? Can't quantify that but quitting CS4 apps takes forever and shutting down the machine after quitting CS4 apps takes even longer.

  • Removing CS3 application folders after installing CS4 upgrade

I just upgraded to CS4 on my Mac and wanted to know if it's safe to remove CS3 folders that appear in the "Applications" folder. I won't need multiple versions of the software taking up space on my system, so is it safe to just toss the folders in the Trash?

It would be wise to keep CS3 until you are familiar with CS4. If you uninstall CS3 then run into a problem with the new way things work in CS4, you will need to uninstall CS4 to reinstall CS3 then reinstall CS4.

  • Remove cs3 bridge cache after installing cs5

I removed cs3 including bridge and installed cs5 and find that the cs3 bridge cache and associated files are still in my hard drive occupying 6.5GB of space.  Can I remove this and how?

CS3 and CS5 uses different cache data bases, so you can delete them using the CS3 purge cache in preferences.  If you have uninstalled CS2 just delete the files.

  • CS4 Install does not remove CS3

I installed CS4 Web Premium 4 over CS3 Web Premium and CS3 still exists in the folders, but not in the "remove programs" file.
How can I remove CS3? And its programs?

    I do not intend to imply that you can use the DW apps simultaneously, <br />though.  You cannot.<br /><br />-- <br />Murray<br /><br /><br />"Murray" <[email protected]> wrote in message <br />news:[email protected]..<br />> Just so you'll know, all such installations occur as stand-alone apps. <br />> They<br />> have never removed the previous version - they are completely independent<br />> installs.  So it's possible to have Dreamweaver 4, 6, 7, 8 CS3 and CS4 all<br />> installed and usable at the same time.<br />><br />> -- <br />> Murray<br />>

I need help removing CS3 from Windows 7 so I can reinstall

Before trying to remove try re-installing CS3 right on top of the current install.  Often re-installing Photoshop on top of itself fixes the install.  If it does be sure to apply the cs3 updates.

  • Remove CS3 with CS5 Installed

    Hi!
I had CS3 installed when I purchased CS5. I didn't remove CS3 and now I'd like to. Will this affect my CS5 install at all?
    Thank you!
    Karen

It could.  It sometimes affects the File Type Associations. It seems counterintutive, but removal of CS3 can cause the files look for CS3 rather than CS5. It is a mess to get it back to looking for CS5.
Unless you really need the HD space it is best to leave it installed.  Can never tell when you might want to use it.
If you really want to uninstall CS3, and have no problems, it is recommended to uninstall both versions, run Adobe Clean Scripts (to get rid of remnants), then re-install CS5.  If you do this be sure to deactivate the copies before the uninstall.  (In Help menu)
    Hope this helps.

  • How to remove CS3 after upgrade to CS4

What is the best way to remove all my CS3 suite after I upgraded to CS4 Suite? Thanks.

As I no longer require CS3 on my Mac after upgrading to CS4 and waiting for the required plugins to be available I have successfully uninstalled CS3 using the Adobe CS3 Creative Suite uninstaller.
NOTE: please make a copy of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax' found Macintosh HD/Library/ScriptingAdditions/Adobe Unit Types.osax
At home did this without making a backup of the 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', so when I launched Photoshop CS4 it suffered from the "Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder.."
At work I did this with making a copy of 'Adobe Unit Types.osax', place it back after the uninstall of CS3... and presto so far so good.
for the 'Error: "One or more files in the Adobe Application Support folder... are missing' when you start Photoshop CS4 (Mac OS)" read here:

  • Remove CS3 without DVD

I sold my CS3 Premium Suite and no longer have the original DVD or serial numbers. I want to remove it from my computer (PC, Windows 7), but the uninstall program keeps asking to put in the DVD. I downloaded the SuiteCleaner, but I cannot get beyond the first step. Is there any trick to getting it off my computer?

  • Have CS3 and CS4, removed CS3, now no ID files will open

I had both InDesign CS3 and CS4 installed.  By default when I would open an ID file, it would always open in CS4.  I forgot CS3 was on there so I uninstalled it and restarted the computer.  Now nothing starts in Indesign at all unless i actually open it with Indesign.  Also all the ID files no longer have the pink icon, its just a while square.  Is there a way to reset this?  I dont see a repair option in the ID setup anywhere.

Platform? Windows or Mac? OS Version? If you are on the mac you could probably get that resolved pretty easy with RC Default Apps
    http://www.rubicode.com/Software/RCDefaultApp/
I'd think if you didn't want to go that route you could just open CS4 InDesign, make a new doc, save it and it should get an icon. Right click that badboy and hold option to choose always open with. Toss a logout or restart into the machine and it should work for you. That RC Default apps is a real jewel though.
If you still get issues maybe see if JoJo cures it. It's nice if you have multiple versions of ID or Quack XPress.

JoJo is payware but everythere that guy makes has been worth it if you need it. Rubicode's Default Apps is free.

  • Removing CS3 bridge, keeping CS4 Bridge...

I am cleaning out previous version of CS3 suite from a mac. However I've had some issues that I wondered if anyone has a solution to.
When running CS3 Bridge, images there are not in CS4 Bridge. There is no export feature I know of (is there?). How do I get everything that is in CS3 Bridge to CS4 to show up before I delete CS3 apps ?  (this macbook pro I am using was loaded from CS2 days up to CS4...I have inherited it at work and need to make room but still keep images intact, plus I never used Bridge before so any noob help is appreciated)

Bridge only creates preview thumbs for its own cache library and not the
original files, they keep untouched in the same folders as you have them now
    on your system.
You can safely uninstall CS3 without losing images. However you will need to
cache the images again when opening CS4 but that is only taking some time.
You will need to recreate new workspaces for PS and Bridge and also set the
preferences again to your wishes but that is only once. Keep in mind that
actions and brushes that you have created or loaded on your CS3 app don't
copy automatically. Best you save them from PS CS3 first in a folder you can
easily access and in CS4 load them again from that folder.
For exact location for prefs in CS3 and CS4 see those knowledge base

  • Can't Install or Remove CS3

    Hi,
I'm having trouble running the setup program from the DVD, it just quits on me with no explanation. I tried going to Add/Remove programs but I can't even remove what I had installed previously. I checked the error log file that Adobe provides when installations fail and it keeps coming up with this error:
Fatal error initializing from proxy files.
The following proxy files could not be loaded
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Installers\5ac697db6c6103f6f8b5198d25f73f7\payloads\AdobeExtendScriptToolKitA ll\AdobeExtendScriptToolKitAll.proxy.xml
I have no idea what any of this means or how to fix it?, can someone please advise me on how to fix this problem?.

  • Bridge CS3 - How to remove?

Am trying to clear up space on my laptop and in doing so searched for a way to remove Bridge as this is one application that I don't use at all on that machine. However, Bridge doesn't appear at all in the Add/Remove programmes list (Windows XP2 Pro) which has thrown me somewhat. I then attempted to remove CS3 hoping that Bridge would appear in an options list which of course it doesn't :-( so had to back track from there as well. Has anyone got any suggestions please?

I just took a look at my CS4 installation. The Bridge executables directory takes up 144mb. Not that terrible really in this day and age.
If you happen to have either the "Goodies" or "Documentation" folders in Program Files>Adobe, you could consider backing up and deleting those. It might give you about that amount of space if you really need to free up every last megabyte.
