Removing DRM from existing purchases

Hi all,
I love iTunes, but could never stand the DRM that came bundled with purchases. Now DRM's been removed from music I'm loving it again. I've made half a dozen purchases already today and I'm delighted with how easily my existing MP3 software was able to convert the M4A files to MP3.
One question though, is there a way within iTunes to either re-download past purchases, or to remove DRM from purchases made before Apple stopped including DRM with music?
Thanks.
Lex.

Access the iTunes plus upgrade screen from either the right hand top in the store in the upper box or by clicking on the iTunes plus advert in the middle of the store screen near the free download screen.
If you have none of these links it may mean that none of your past purchases is currently available. The entire store will not be DRM free until near April, currently only close to 8 Million tracks are available, though I think new are still be added daily.

Legally, no. And illegal procedures cannot be discussed here per the ToU, so from any practical stance, the answer is still no.

It doesn't actually  "remove" anything.  But it does allow you to delete the DRM versions and download non-DRM versions, if available.

  • How can i remove them from my purchased(no hidden them)and my account for ever?

    hello
I got a few free app before and did not download them completely and dont want to do this,
but they stay in my purchased and start automatly when i connect to itunes store and going to crazy me
How can i remove them from my purchased(no hidden them)and my account for ever?
(I want to delete all free apps and Books from my purchases.)
    please help me
    thank you.

There is no way to do it. Others have asked for the very same thing that you are asking for, but currently it just cannot be done. You can't remover purchases from your Purchase History - you can hide them - but you can't delete them from the history.
You can delete the Apps from the iPad and you can delete them from iTunes on the computer. Delete them from iPad, delete them fromiTunes so that when you sync there is no chance that they will come back. Then hide the purchases. That's the best that you can do.
On the iPad, tap and hold down on the app icons until the X pops up. Tap the X to delete the apps.
In iTunes, clcik on Apps under the Library heading on the left. Right click on the apps that you want to delete and follow the prompts.

Apple allows apps to list themselves as "Free" if the initial download is free, even if the app has kid-oriented inducements for costly in-app purchases.  The in-app purchases are almost always ridiculous, over-priced game accessories, of which your example of "1400 gems for $49.99" is right up there.  It is way too caveat emptor for my taste, but each consumer can form their own opinion on that.
To Apple's credit, they have a good record of granting refunds providing you explain the extenuating circumstances (purchase by a minor) and only ask once.  Contact iTunes Customer Service.
As roaminggnome notes, you need to place restrictions on the devices.  The restrictions are off by default, so you need to take action to do this.  See this document:  iOS: Understanding Restrictions

  • Remove DRM from Independent Labels

One way that Apple can show that it takes seriously the topics brought up in Steve Jobs's article, "Thoughts on Music", is to remove DRM from all material where the content producer did not specifically ask for it.
There are many independent labels who wish their music to be as open as possible to a broader community. DRM gets between them and their customers.
Please consider removing DRM from all content where the content producer did not request or require it.
    Thank you,
    Mike Shea

It wont happen. Apple has DRM accross the board is to offer a consistant product. Lets face the facts that if 90% of all music is required DRM (shot in the dark) people who dont get the DRM thng (most customers) will be totaly lost if only a few songs have DRM and others dont. Apple stripping DRM from music that doesnt require them means very little to the Recording companies anyway.

I found the answer just after posted this.  Thanks to a user named CloudWalker.  Solution is to go in AppStore, View Account under "Store" Menu and unhide any purchases.

  • HT201304 Can I remove apps from my purchase list

Can I remove apps from my purchase list..?

No. You can hide them from the Purchases section of the iTunes Store through iTunes on a computer (or your iPad if it's still running iOS 5):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919
but there's no way to remove apps permanently, nor can they be removed nor hidden in the Purchase History.

  • Remove DRM from early itunes store purchases

The itunes help screen says, "If you already have iTunes Store purchases that are now available as iTunes Plus downloads, you may upgrade your existing purchases. To do so, visit the iTunes Store and follow the onscreen instructions."

    Ideas?

  • How to remove fairplay from old purchased songs?

    Hello there!!
As you know Apple removed DRM (Fairplay) from their songs some years ago. Is there anyway to remove Fairplay from songs bought before Apple removed the DRM? Or is possible to re-purchase without any kind of cost this old songs without Fairplay?
    Kind regards!!!

First of all, thank you for taking the time to answer my inquire.
I was wondering that, but i supposed that Apple could has a procedure to manage this kind of situations taking in consideration that they removed the DRM only months after i purchased those songs.
    Cheers!

  • NEW ADOBE ACCOUNT REMOVING DRM FROM ALL BOOKS

I have had ADE and Sony Reader for PC for some years without any major problems. Recently I have been having some issues downloading a particular book - the acsm would not download the file from Google Play Books. In trying to fix this I seem to have created a far worse problem.
One of the fixes suggested was to ensure my computer was properly authorised - but I was unsure of my password on my Adobe account linked to an old and defunct email.  Not knowing what else to do I created a new account with my current email address, big mistake.
Adobe have now rather unhelpfully removed the DRM from all my legitmately pruchased books as they were purchased on my old account. I cannot open any book now either on my laptop or my ereader and I have no way of accessing the old Adobe account.
My computer is running Windows Vista and my ereader is Sony PRS T1, I suspect that this can only be resolved by Adobe linking or merging my accounts but if anyone can help  I would be very grateful.

  • ADR Removes updates from existing Software Update Group

I'm working on using SCCM for Software Updates, was previously only using WSUS. I think I've got everything configured and I can deploy updates successfully. So now I'm working on automating things with some ADRs. The problem I'm running into is that I'm
trying to set the ADR to add updates to an existing group. Office 2007 updates in this example.  I have the search criteria in the ADR set to look for Office 2007 updates released in the last 30 days and it is set to run once a month.
So in my mind, each month it will run and add the necessary updates to the existing group, and the group will become a cumulative list.  The problem I'm having is that every time the rule runs, it seems to remove all the existing updates from that
group and only add in the updates that were returned for that run.  For example, I can set the rule to search for updates released in the last 60 days and will see 15 updates in the group.  If I change the rule to search for updates released in the
last 30 days and run it again, the group will only have 10 updates in it.  Or if I manually add updates to the group and then run the rule again, the updates I manually added are removed.  None of these are expired or superseded.  Any ideas?

The spirit of the statement is more or less correct, but as it applies to this scenario it is not. To the clients, nothing has changed. The update is part of the update group before and after. Thus, the client only knows about the newly added updates thus
there really is no client side processing churn except for the newly added updates. As for the SQL processing, that's what SQL does well -- that's the whole point of using a enterprise class RDBMS. Tip-toeing around SQL, particularly for a process that only
happens once a month, is (sorry) silly. Now, if you were to do this everyday, then yes, that's bad. Once a month, it's trivial. Do of course make sure you have a good SQL maintenance plan in place that includes re-indexing and rebuilding statistics (not the
    built-in maintenance task).

  • Removing drm from tra

Can anybody please help I have a zen micro dri've usb 20 gig and have recently bought a zen vision m 30 gig which I am trying to transfer my collection to it transferred all mp3 songs but not wma protected songs can anybody help me transfer these songs thank you...Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
If the tracks are MP3 files, then there is no protection on them, there is no protection for MP3 files so they can be transferred to your PC or another player.
If they are WMA files with DRM protection, then it is unfortunate that you turned that option on for your own tracks (that you ripped), but we can't allow discussion on how to (hypothetically) remove DRM protection as that includes bought tracks aswell, they include this protection on purpose.

  • Remove drm from purchased

    Hey, iWorld!
I have 1300+ songs on iTunes.  About 450 of them were purchased through iTunes; the rest were uploaded from CDs I had.  There are about 125 of those legally purchased songs that I want to play on my Samsung Galaxy S3 but I cannot figure out how to remove the DRM protection.  Again, I PURCHASED these songs so I am not asking to do anything illegal.  I just want to be able to play the music I purchased.
Also, can I use iTunes on my Samsung Galaxy S3 as an iPod of sorts?  The stock music player is not my favorite.  Any ideas?
    THANK YOU!

I have a followup question about this, since I want to do something similar with my new Nexus 7, using DoubleTwist (which uses the iTunes library, but lets you sync with more devices).
Looking in the iTunes store it looks like 104 songs of the 1,233 songs in my library were purchased from iTunes. The rest I originally added from old CDs.
It seems a waste to spend $25 to remove the DRM of just those 104 songs. But I was wondering the following things:
If I did subscribe to Match and did not renew, have I lost anything other than the ability to store my non-purchased items in the cloud?
I understand that some songs are NLA (no longer available). The entire exercise would be not worth it if some songs are NLA. Is there a way to check before making my purchase to ensure that all my purchases are still available?
Any thoughts on just burning those 104 songs on CDs and then importing them back into iTunes? That will also remove the DRM, won't it? I read that reduces quality. I'm not a real audiophile, so I wonder how much I would notice. Already almost almost my songs originated from CD and they all sound fine to me.
It sort of seems unfair for Apple to not allow a simple upgrade of those 104 songs. Particularly since the prices they are currently selling those songs at seem to be the same. But it's Apple, so what can you do.
Anyway, I was just wondering what the best way of proceeding might be and welcome opinions.
    Thanks!
