Removing echo from audio track.

Hi
I have audio recorded in a church which sounds great apart from the echo on it. Im at a loss as to which filter, if any will help remove it. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
Many Thanks
Adrian

You may be able to reduce the level of echo by using a noise gate; the results will depend upon the nature and level of echo and also other background noise, but some reduction may be possible. Don't be too agreesive in the setting of noise reduction otherwise it will be very obvious that you are gating the sound and you will end up hearing the background sound coming and going as quite often heard on less well processed movies and tv productions.

  • Remove echo from recorded person?

I am trying to remove echo from audio that I recorded of a person speaking in a conference room.  This is a professional project and I need it to be done right.  I have tryed some fiters/effects in Soundtrack Pro but haven't had any luck?
    Any suggestions?

Echoes are nearly impossible to remove for the simple reason that they exist in exactly the same frequencies as the original voice.
You can try a noise gate (on the assumption that the echoes are at a lower volume). You'll need to go gently in this as often the effort to remove the echo makes the audio worse.
You may have to re-record the person to get the audio. Unless you have access to a good ADR setup you'll probably end up running B-Roll on screen and using the new recording as a VO.
Next time have someone on the set wearing good quality headphones who's job is monitoring and riding levels on the audio as it is being recorded. Then, you'll catch the issue before it becomes a problem.
    Good luck.

  • Removing Florescent Light Noise "Hum" from Audio Tracks using FCEHD

I have some clips taken under florescent lighting where the hum was discernable even during the sound check. (I was using external Electro Voice hypercardiod XLR mikes plugged into my Sony DCRVX2100, powered through a surge protector, monitoring the audio with Bose QC2 headphones). Using the same camera, cables, and mikes under incandescent lighting that day was fine - no hum.
Attempting to filter out the hum using the FCE Hum filter wasn't dramatically effective, even with repeated tests establishing that using a frequency of 60 hz, a Q of 40, a gain of -48, and the 1st and 3rd harmonics provided the most benefit.
Additionally I tried again with the FCE 31 band EQ filter, anticipating that the 50 hz and 60 hz filters would provide very specific improvements. Also tried were the LowPass Filter and the 3 band EQ.
I'd like to clean up the otherwise fine audio - any suggestions? I am considering buying a filtered power conditioner as I know that some of the problem can be "dirty" electricity resulting from the ballast of the florescent lighting.
Also, I noted that the numeric values shown for the gain using the FCE 31 band EQ filter oftentimes lagged behind the setting of the slider: returning the slider to the middle "0" position frequently didn't change the previous value of the gain shown. Is this another indication that I should just upgrade from my PowerBook G4 with 2 Gig of RAM?
    Thanks!
    James Mackay

    Hello Jim,
And welcome to the Final Cut Express forum.
You are correct that the ballast generates the hum. Power conditioning is probably not going to reduce or eliminate it, because the old ballasts are magnetic. The only way I found to eliminate fluorescent noise at the source is to replace the ballast with an electronic one or replace the entire fixture with a T8 unit (they use electronic ballasts).
Removing that hum probably can't be done in FCE. Sound Soap can probably do it however, with it's ability to +learn noise+ and then remove that specific audio. The regular Sound Soap works as a plugin for Final Cut, which enables you to apply it within FCE.
At present there is also an 'SE' version available at 50% off however it only works in standalone mode, which means you would have to export the audio track from FCE, clean it and then re-import back into FCE.

  • Removing hiss from cassette tracks

Other than the gate, how can I effectively remove hiss from some cassette tracks I imported to GB?

an audio editor like audacity would be a better choice:
    http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/GBFAQ.html#audioeditors
(Let the page FULLY load. The link to your answer is at the top of your screen)
but in GB you can try any of the EQs (parametric would be my first choice)

  • Removing hum from audio

Lost the audio tracks from the mixer, so
all I have is the audio from the RED camera.  There is a constant hum.
I tried the DeHummer tool at different settings, no luck.
All I have is Premiere CS5, no other tools like Audition.  Is there a way to remove the hum
since it is constant?  The audio files are *.mov for some reason, so Audacity didn't help either.  Of all the scenes that could get screwed up, its the one with my five year old in it!  UGH!!!!!
    Thanks for your time,
    Stuart

    Stuart,
Much will depend on the frequency range of the hum and on the frequency range of the Audio that you wish to preserve. This ARTICLE will give you some tips.
While I use Audition, SoundBooth (do you have that program, as it's included in most Adobe suites?) should be able to help, as can the great, little free Audacity.
    Good luck,

  • ??? Make a CD recording from audio track

I need to make a CD recording of an audio track that I have in FCP. Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Glenn

You need to take the aiff file that FCP exports and drag & drop it on the iTunes library, when it shows up in the list, create a playlist with just the Aiff title in it and burn the CD in iTunes. If iTunes tryies to convert it AAC, then set the import settings in iTunes to Aiff before bringing in the the Aiff file.
Toast would be a better solution if you have it, as well as being simpler to create the audio CD.
You can delete the aiff from iTunes when your done as well as the play list it was a part of.

  • Remove Reverb from Voice Tracks in GarageBand

I am testing out the version of GarageBand that came with my iMac.  I had previously been using GarageBand '09.
In GB 10.0 when I add any voice track, it automatically includes this reverb that I can't get rid of. The default "audio track" has no reverb but so far it looks like all of the voice tracks have it.
I have turned off the master reverb, master echo, and track reverb/echo.
    I still here it.
    What am I missing?

The "Reverb" is part of most of the predefined vocal patches.
You can save your own settings as a new instrument patch using the "Save" button at the bottom of the Library.  Then use this patch, when you create a new vocal track.

  • Trying to separate music track from audio track

Hi all - I've been reading posts, but haven't been able to determine whether there is a way for me to separate a music track from an audio track.
I have a copy of a television show that aired, where the music and audio tracks have (obviously) been mastered to the point where it's one music channel.
I'm trying to extend the music a little further without including the people talking. Does anyone know any creative methods that would allow me to do this?
Thanks so much for your help.

No...not at a professional quality level. You would need to either collect enough of the music bed where no dialog or f/x are present or obtain the oringal source music - which could be anything from readily accessible library or commercial to no longer existant custom music.
Sorry...I know that isn't much help.
From a Non-Pro level...there are really only two tricks:
    1) If there is enough contrast between music and everything else...about all you could do would be to EQ out the ranges where dialog exist. 300hz - 4Khz maybe. But that is also where the definition is going to be in the music.
    2) If the music is in stereo and the dialog is not. You can try to elimate the dialog by inverting the phase of one channel and monoing the two togther. This will leave you with only L-R material. Again, not good enough for professional broadcast...but you can try it.

  • How to remove a specific audio track?

    Hello,
My wife and I were recently driving around in a convertible.
She recorded video of our drive on her iPhone.
When the iPhone was in the car (ie: behind the windshield), you can hear the music and the sound of the car perfectly.
However, occasionally she would put the iPhone up above the windshield for an unobstructed view, but the wind whipping by the iPhone's mic is blisteringly loud and annoying.
Is there any way to delete JUST the wind noise from the audio track (either in iMovie, or Garage Band, or any other program anybody knows of)?
I know that software exists that will break down an audio track into it's individual components, I just don't know which ones are the best.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Justin

    Hi
Is there any way to delete JUST the wind noise from the audio track (either in iMovie, or Garage Band, or any other program anybody knows of)?
No - some minimal enhancements can be done but way to little to be of any use.
    • Equalizer in Garageband
    • SoundSoap™
But still that will not make any noticeable difference. Sorry
I know that software exists that will break down an audio track into it's individual components, I just don't know which ones are the best.
Then You know more than me.
I know the theory of "Field-Vector-Analysis" but never seen any program that apply it and if they are in real world then
    • Costs will be astronomical
    • Need of computing power - wild guess x-thousand Macs connected as a Beowulf-cluster
    • Competence to use it - talking about steep learning curve
Hear-say talks about an application "Virtual Microphone" - but I can't find it to test anywhere.
So - do as the Pros - dubbing - silence original and make/use a fake audio file instead.

  • Removing keyframes from motion tracking

I have this video that I perform Analyze Motion to, then Match Move what I want to attach.
Trouble is, the Analyze Motion is just a little bit too jittery for my liking. What I'd like is to do a match move but only have every other (or every 3rd) keyframe used, to smooth out the movement.
Is there a way to do this, or to knock out every other keyframe from the Analyze Motion?

The best way to "smooth" a track is to use the Average parameter behavior. Apply it to the same layer that has the Analyze motion (or any other tracking behavior). Set the "Apply To" parameter to the Track result(s) that need smoothing. I would recommend using one instance for each axis (X/Y) for each track. This will give you better control since in many cases you may need different degrees of smoothing.
Be aware, average reduces the accuracy of the tracks, so you may encounter some drift or decreased accuracy. If you really want to remove every X number of frames, you would need to do this manually in the keyframe editor. Before you do that, I'd make a copy of the tracking beahvior. If you remove keys from the behavior and don't have a duplicate, you'll have to reanalyze.

  • Removing Pops from Audio

I cut some audio, but there's a pop where the person is ending one word and about to begin the next. What's the logical way of dealing with this issue?
    Thanks.
    - anthony

Hi. Well I guess the "logical" solution is to re-cut the voice over. If that's not possible, zoom in on the waveform of the audio track and see where exactly the pop occurs. If it is between syllables you need to complete and start the words adjacent to the pop, hooray. Just highlight the pop-only waveforms and delete them. If, however, the pop (assuming it was caused by an explosion of air onto the mic) occurs when the speaker pronounces a "p" or another consonant, you can try reducung the lower frequencies with the audio EQ filter--for just that spot -- until the loud explosive fequencies are minimized. Anyway, whatever frequency range the pop is happenning in can be minimized by adjusting the EQ of that moment.

  • How do i remove buzz and hiss from audio track?

    I'm using Premiere Elements 13, Windows 8, 64 bit
My original film has some hiss and buzz that I would like to remove. I tried applying DeNoiser and New Blue Hum Remover, but neither seemed to make a difference. Perhaps I need to tweek the tools to make them suppress more of the unwanted sound? Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Just some quick things to check out for now.
If the Premiere Elements audio effects are not working for you, please check out the noise removal offered by the free audio editor named Audacity. Have you used that before?
    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
Here are Audacity suggested how to. Think noise reduction rather than noise removal.

  • Can't remove effects from video track

    Video: http://screencast.com/t/x5L00pQn
I right-click the track and select "Remove Effects", tick all checkboxes but nada.Of course, the track is not locked or anything.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

What effects are you referring to? I see time remapping keyframes, but those are exempt from the Remove Effects command (since removing them would alter the duration of your clip).
Remove Effects removes or resets the following:
    Motion (intrinsic)
    Opacity (intrinsic)
    Video Filters (applied)
    Audio Filters (applied)
    Audio Volume (intrinsic)
Transitions are not effects, at least in the technical definition, so they are not removed either.
