Removing Exchange 2010 from AD

Hi
We have moved all our mail into Office 365 Exchange. We still need to run AD locally and will keep the DC's  I need to shutdown the Exchange server, however if I do I need to understand how this may effect the Active Directory in the respect of setting
up users etc. I guess I am guessing that AD will complain that it can not find the Exchange Server when we add or remove users fro the AD?
Kind regards

Hi,
As far as I know, after upgrading to on-premise Exchange server and working well for a period of time in coexistence, we can remove the legacy Exchange server.
The Exchange users in AD still have mailbox since we move mailboxes to new server. In this case, it doesn’t have any difference through AD.
For more information about removing Exchange 2010, you can refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332361(v=exchg.141).aspx
However, since the issue is related to Exchange online, I recommend you ask for help on our Exchange online forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/msonline/en-us/home?forum=onlineservicesexchange
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.
Thanks,

  • Removing Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 (In an Exchange 2010 Coexistance Scenario) - In order to remove 2007 Mailbox Objects from Active Directory and remove the SBS2008 server completely

I'm trying to remove Exchange 2007 from an SBS 2008 server
(Server 2008 Standard FE).  My ultimate goal is to completely remove the SBS 2008 Server from the network environment.
We have an Exchange 2010 Coexistence Scenario and Mailboxes/Public Folders/etc have been moved over to the 2010 mail server, on Server 2008 R2.
I have moved all Shares, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, etc over to their respective servers.  We have two full blown DC's in the environment.
I'm ready to remove Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 and DCPROMO the server.  I can NOT seem to find a TechNet article that shows me how
to proceed in this kind of scenario.  I am trying to use the TechNet article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(v=ws.10).aspx
This article references Disabling Mailboxes, Removing OAB, Removing Public Folder Databases, then uninstalling Exchange using the Setup Wizard.
When I go to Disable Mailboxes I get the following error:
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'Username (edited)'.
    Username (edited)
    Failed
    Error:
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.
    OK
I really don't see why I need to Disable Mailboxes, Remove OAB and Public Folder Databases since they have been moved to 2010.  I just want
to remove Exchange 2007 and DCPROMO this server (actually I just want to remove any lingering Exchange AD Objects referring to the SBS 2008 Server, using the easiest and cleanest method possible).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that you are in a migration process (migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2). Now, you want to remove Exchange Server and demote server. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

  • Monitoring Exchange 2010 from external network

I would like to monitoring the following services pf Exchange 2010 from external network / internet
    1) SMTP (To confirm the mail has been accepted for delivery)
    2) ActiveSynch (Mobile device can login and synch different folders)
    3) WebApp (Users can log and access mail)
I have created a script using test-Mailflow, test-activesynchconnectivity and Test-WebServicesConnectivity and running it on server from LAN. I want to monitor the above 3 areas from Internet(external network) to make sure these services are available
    from Internet.
We have Barracuda as SMTP gateway, TMG for WebApp and MobileIron for ActiveSynch.
Will i be able to monitor these services from external network(internet) using test commands. What are the alternate ways to monitor the above services from external network.
    Thanks

We are trying to build exactly similar to ExRCA. ExRCA is good but it is manual. We would like to build something similar to ExRCA which can monitor exchange services periodically and send alerts.

  • Remove Exchange 2007 from an Exchange 2013 coexistence.

    Hey everyone,
I've just installed Exchange 2013 on a new server and all is working great.  It is currently in coexistence with our old Exchange 2007 server.  I've since shut the server down and Exchange 2013 has been working without issue.  However, I haven't
been able to find any articles on this matter so I figured I would ask the question here.
How do you remove Exchange 2007 from the coexistence.  Do I just uninstall Exchange 2007 from the old server and it will remove itself from the server and the domain?  Any help/link on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Chris

    Hi Simon,
I am about to do the same exercise as Chris,  I just would like some clarity.
    1) When you say mailbox Database, do you mean make sure there are no more mailboxes that you want to move over, or are you actually meaning delete the physical DB on the exchange 2007 server.
    2) If there is no use of public folders does anything need to happen?
    Thanks,
    Terry

  • Removed Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8; some clients still having Outlook issues

We have removed Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8 and rebooted the Exchange servers; but some Outlook clients are still experiencing the issues where calendar appointments can't be saved. They get "the item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted
or moved or you do not have permission." Then "the operation failed". Everyone has created new Outlook profiles. This fixes some computers; but not all. This is happening on Windows 7 with Office 2010 and Windows 8.1 with Office 2010.
    Does anyone have a fix?
    Thanks!
    Mary Cato

    Hi Mary,
Is there the same issue when using OWA ?
If OWA is ok, except recreate outlook profile, I also recommend you try moving mailboxes to another database and check if any helps.

  • Remove Exchange 2010 DC from single server environment coexisting with Exchange 2013

My new Exchange server (2013) has completed all the migration steps including public folders. Mail is working well.  I do not use the old DC running Exchange 2010 for any local domain logins or computer control, it is strictly for OWA as is my new Exchange
2013.  I went through the uninstall of Exchange 2010 with out error but cancelled it after it said it was ready to uninstall. When I shut down Exchange 2010 server mail no longer is available.  What am I missing? I am using same Public IP and different
private (192.168.1.4 new EXchange 2013, 192.168.1.7 for Exchange 2010) I changed these settings in my asa Firewall and that is working with new settings as well.  Send and Receive connectors are on new while old one have been deleted.  Do my MX records
need to be updated to reflect new server (ex2) as opposed to old server name (ex)?
You can come to Maui for a "Site Inspection" lol!
    System Admin

    Hi
You need to make sure all your DNS settings are correct with the new server IP as well as autodiscover. Remove any routing connectors between exchange 2010 and 2013.
Not best practice to run exchange on a DC but if you comfortable you have migrated all system mailboxes, user mailboxes and that the settings on your new server match the old one then proceed with the uninstall.
Your ISP will obviously route mail to your firewall as you are doing the NAT from there.

  • Manually removing Exchange Server from Exchange 2010 Organization

Hi everybody, I need some help with a problem removing my last Exchange Server 2003 (the only one now, back-end) from my mixed environment, actually I have one Exchange 2010 server with all the mailboxes, I have replicated public folders and OAB and List
Address Books to it, after that i removed my front end server from my environment but when I tryed to remove my back-end, I have the error 0x80072030 (8240) when I ran the uninstallation of Exchange from Add/remove Programs:  I read
tons of articles but anyone helps (i have removed all mailboxes from that server), my last resource is removing the last Exchange Server 2003 from my mixed (2003/2010) organization, I have read articles about to remove Exchange from one server and to remove
Exchange from one site, also to remove Exchange to reinstall after, but my goal is remove Exchange at all because I have Exchange Server 2010 too and finally need to migrate to Exchange 2013 so I need to clean Exchange 2003 manually from my
    organizatión.
Please somebody knows a procedure to remove Exchange Server 2003 from Active Directory and left only Exchange 2010 to be able to migrate to Exchange 2013.
    thanks in advance.

  • Update Exchange 2010 from 14.1.218.15 to SP2

    HI All,
We are using Exchange server 2010, it is recently deployed in the production environment, I want to know what is the process to apply patches and SP update on exchange server.
As we are running exchange 2010 SP1 14.1.218.15 and should I apply SP 2 diretly on it or I have to apply from
Update Rollup 1 to Update Rollup 7-v3 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1
    first and then apply SP2,
    Your suggestions are required.
    Regards
    Sameer

As lynn said you don't need to apply RU's as you can directly install the latest service pack.
Please note that Support for SP1 & SP2 (Exchange 2010) is ended and hence i recommend you to upgrade to SP3.
You should upgrade your Exchange 2010 server roles in the following order:
    Client Access
    Hub Transport
    Unified Messaging
    Mailbox
    Edge Transport
Also, while patching CAS Servers, Internet Facing CAS Servers should have to be patched first. In case if you have CAS Servers in CAS Array then you will have to remove the CAS Server from the array while patching and should add CAS Server back to CAS Array
    after patching/reboot.
For more information about patching/upgrading exchange you can refer: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/bb629560(v=exchg.141).aspx

  • Cannot remove Exchange 2010

We installed Exchange 2010 on a Windows 2012 server and now we cannot uninstall it.  When I try to run setup.exe to get options to remove it I get "ExSetupUI.exe has stopped working" and I cannot continue.  We never used the new Exchange

  • Removing Exchange 2010

Hi I have successfully completed a cutover migration from exchange 2010 to exchange online. We have dirsync running for password sync, NO ADFS. The current exchange 2010 is also a domain controller, as this server is no longer required I am going to demoting
this DC, as all data is migrated to exchange online and no users are using the Exchange I am thinking whether just demoting the DC will be sufficient or whether I need to uninstall Exchange 2010 before I shut this server down. If I do need to uninstall the
Exchange 2010 would this rewrite any AD attributes, am i right in thinking these exchange attributes for ad objects is an one way schema update and wont be lost, as these attribs are necessary for current exchange online to work properly eg, legacyexchangedn
in proxyaddress attrib and mailnickname etc.
Just need a short answer, If i demote dc and shutdown server would this suffice or do i need to uninstall exchange?

    Decommission on-premises Exchange servers.   After
you’ve verified that all email is being routed directly to the Exchange Online mailboxes, have completed the migration, and no longer need to maintain your on-premises email organization or don’t plan on implementing a single sign-on solution,
you can uninstall Exchange from your servers and remove your on-premises Exchange organization.

  • All websites down after uninstalling Exchange 2010 from Web Server

    Hello,
I successfully uninstalled Exchange 2010 (Client Access Role) from a webserver that hosts a company website and some other web apps, as a last step on a migration to 2013. But after that, some application pools were not started automatically, resulting on a
503 error even after starting the app pools manually.
I was getting IIS event Id 5139.
Fortunately it is a hyper-v server so I applied a snapshot I created prior to uninstalling exchange and got it working again. I need to know what happened before doing it again.
I would like to know about similar scenarios and how did you fix it.
    thanks in advance.

    Hi RCKSTR,
Are you running website in Exchange? If yes it is not a recommended way of working. Exchange is supposed to a standalone.
Websites will not run if IIS uninstalled.
Ensure IIS is installed and your website settings remains the same.
    Thanks, MAS

  • Removing Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 after Migrating to Office 365 Mid Sized with DirSync and SSO

We have recently completed off a Migration of Exchange 2007 to Office 365 Mid Sized platform.
I now need to decomission the old SBS 2008 server as they have moved to a Windows Server 2012 R2 server setup for DC, File and print and application servers.
I need to know what are the ramifications of removing the Exchange 2007 server from the SBS 2008 server and will this remove the LegacyDN details from AD and cause any issues with internal emails between users using Outlook linked through to Office365.
I understand that after removing Exchange 2007 there will be no friendly GUI to update and maintain proxyAddress, targetAddress and LegacyDN addresses, I am comfortable doing this in ADSI edit or with a script.
Will this remove the x500 addresses relating to the on premise Exchange Orgainisation and just leave behind the x500 addresses for Exchange Labs which I assume is the x500 addresses for the Azure AD intergration for Office365.

    Hi ,
Thank you for posting your issue in the forum.
I am trying to involve someone familiar with this topic to further look at this issue. There might be some time delay. Appreciate your patience.
Thank you for your understanding and support.

  • Upgrade Exchange 2010 from SP2 to SP3 RU4

    Hi All,
We are planning to upgarde Exchange 2010 SP2 servers with stretched dag across 2 AD sites to SP3 RU4.
    I have few questions.
    1. We are planning to Upgrade HUB/CAS servers in both the sites in first  week.
    2. Then we are planning to upgrade mailbox servers in the next week in both sites.
    3.
Do you think this is a good approach. Can some one please share best pratices document as we are using F5 load balancing.

    Hi,
Vishwanath's suggestions are pretty helpful. Besides that, we should make sure that the update process should be managed to prevent all of the DAG members from being offline at the same time.
Here is an article about how to install Update Rollups on Database Availability Group Members for your reference.
