Removing Exchange 2010
Hi I have successfully completed a cutover migration from exchange 2010 to exchange online. We have dirsync running for password sync, NO ADFS. The current exchange 2010 is also a domain controller, as this server is no longer required I am going to demoting
this DC, as all data is migrated to exchange online and no users are using the Exchange I am thinking whether just demoting the DC will be sufficient or whether I need to uninstall Exchange 2010 before I shut this server down. If I do need to uninstall the
Exchange 2010 would this rewrite any AD attributes, am i right in thinking these exchange attributes for ad objects is an one way schema update and wont be lost, as these attribs are necessary for current exchange online to work properly eg, legacyexchangedn
in proxyaddress attrib and mailnickname etc.
Just need a short answer, If i demote dc and shutdown server would this suffice or do i need to uninstall exchange?
Decommission on-premises Exchange servers. After
you’ve verified that all email is being routed directly to the Exchange Online mailboxes, have completed the migration, and no longer need to maintain your on-premises email organization or don’t plan on implementing a single sign-on solution,
you can uninstall Exchange from your servers and remove your on-premises Exchange organization.

Removing Exchange 2010 from AD
Hi
We have moved all our mail into Office 365 Exchange. We still need to run AD locally and will keep the DC's I need to shutdown the Exchange server, however if I do I need to understand how this may effect the Active Directory in the respect of setting
up users etc. I guess I am guessing that AD will complain that it can not find the Exchange Server when we add or remove users fro the AD?
Kind regardsHi,
As far as I know, after upgrading to on-premise Exchange server and working well for a period of time in coexistence, we can remove the legacy Exchange server.
The Exchange users in AD still have mailbox since we move mailboxes to new server. In this case, it doesn’t have any difference through AD.
For more information about removing Exchange 2010, you can refer to the following article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee332361(v=exchg.141).aspx
However, since the issue is related to Exchange online, I recommend you ask for help on our Exchange online forum:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/msonline/en-us/home?forum=onlineservicesexchange
If you have any question, please feel free to let me know.

Removed Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8; some clients still having Outlook issues
We have removed Exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 8 and rebooted the Exchange servers; but some Outlook clients are still experiencing the issues where calendar appointments can't be saved. They get "the item cannot be saved to this folder. The folder was deleted
or moved or you do not have permission." Then "the operation failed". Everyone has created new Outlook profiles. This fixes some computers; but not all. This is happening on Windows 7 with Office 2010 and Windows 8.1 with Office 2010.
Does anyone have a fix?
Thanks!
Mary CatoHi Mary,
Is there the same issue when using OWA ?
If OWA is ok, except recreate outlook profile, I also recommend you try moving mailboxes to another database and check if any helps.

We installed Exchange 2010 on a Windows 2012 server and now we cannot uninstall it. When I try to run setup.exe to get options to remove it I get "ExSetupUI.exe has stopped working" and I cannot continue. We never used the new Exchange
server and we just want to remove it from the domain. How can I accomplish this?Tried the command line (actually was setup.com /mode:uninstall) and it got most of the way through but failed in the "Configuring Microsoft Exchange Server" section under "Hub Transport Server Role" and gave the error below.

Hi All,
I installed exchange 2010 on server 2012 standard after having a working exchange 2003 on windows 2003 for over 8 years. Installation was failing with an error about not having access to certificate files. After some search I found a thread about this and
moved the certificate files to trusted zone, and installation completed with no errors. After the install though I am unable to setup the server because the management console will not expand to show any information. Please wee attached screenshot.
I am now unable to remove the installation, I get the following error:
Uninstall cannot continue. Database 'Mailbox Database 0267413181': This mailbox database contains one or more mailboxes or arbitration mailboxes. To get a list of all mailboxes in this database, run the command Get-Mailbox -Database <Database ID>.

Remove Exchange 2010 DC from single server environment coexisting with Exchange 2013
My new Exchange server (2013) has completed all the migration steps including public folders. Mail is working well. I do not use the old DC running Exchange 2010 for any local domain logins or computer control, it is strictly for OWA as is my new Exchange
2013. I went through the uninstall of Exchange 2010 with out error but cancelled it after it said it was ready to uninstall. When I shut down Exchange 2010 server mail no longer is available. What am I missing? I am using same Public IP and different
private (192.168.1.4 new EXchange 2013, 192.168.1.7 for Exchange 2010) I changed these settings in my asa Firewall and that is working with new settings as well. Send and Receive connectors are on new while old one have been deleted. Do my MX records
need to be updated to reflect new server (ex2) as opposed to old server name (ex)?
You can come to Maui for a "Site Inspection" lol!
System AdminHi
You need to make sure all your DNS settings are correct with the new server IP as well as autodiscover. Remove any routing connectors between exchange 2010 and 2013.
Not best practice to run exchange on a DC but if you comfortable you have migrated all system mailboxes, user mailboxes and that the settings on your new server match the old one then proceed with the uninstall.
Your ISP will obviously route mail to your firewall as you are doing the NAT from there. -
I can't either mount for remove Exchange 2010 mailbox database file
Yesterday I proceeded with moving Exchange 2010 database file to a newly installed hard drive because my "C" drive was running out of space. After dismouting both the mailbox database and the public folder database, I used EMC's "move
data path" wizard to move both the mailbox database and public folder database to "mailbox" folder in "D" drive. The move was successful without an error, but when I opened "mailbox" folder in "D" drive, both
the database file and public folder database files weren't there. All the other files were moved, but the mailbox database file was gone.
Luckily I manually copied entire mailbox folder to another folder in "D" drive. So I manually copied mailbox database file (it is about 20GB) to "d:\mailbox". When I try to mount, I received the following error message.
Microsoft Exchange Error

I need help. I need to mount my mailbox database file. Please help.If the database was fine pre move I doubt it needs a repair, however if you want to validate do an eseutil /mh ReplaceWithYourDatabaseName.edb and post the results here
did you move the logs as well or are they still in same location
I have seen this before if everything is where its supposed to bea restart fixed it so I would recommend that you put the DB back into the NEW D path and do a restart to see if that resolves the issue

Hi,
My organization have few win 7 and windows 8.1 clients. Now I want to migrate exchange server 2010 to 2013. And I don't want to remove exchange 2010 from the organization. Because I want to connect win 7 client through exchange 2010 and windows 8.1 user
connect to exchange 2013. Is there any way to define the win 7 users to connect to exchange 2010 and Windows 8.1 users to connect to exchange 2013?
Md. Ramin HossainThe client connections are proxied to the mailbox servers that hold the mailbox.
You would need to have 2010 MBX servers with the mailboxes for the XP users, and 2013 MBX servers holding the mailboxes for the 7 users. And of course, the appropriate CAS servers.
Realistically, you need to migrate away from Windows XP. It is no longer supported. -
Hello ,
I have Exchange server 2010
1 hub+ cas server
1 mailbox server .
i want to install new server exchange 2010 with hub+cas+mailbox and unistall the old exchange 2010 servers .
already i install the new exchange 2010 with hub+cas+mailbox and create new database on the new server
Then i make new local move for all mailboxes from the old mailbox server to the new exchange 2010 server
I redirect all mailboxes to use the new cas server which located on the new exchange server
[PS] C:\>Set-MailboxDatabase -Identity "Mailbox Database 0447493325" -RpcClientAccessServer ex2.domain.local
The issue :
The autodiscover didnt update the outlook profiles on the users pcs with the new cas server which locate on the new server .
what the steps to make autodiscover to update the outlook profiles with the new cas
what also should migrated from old server to the new one before unistall the old exchange servers .
thanks for helpHi,
As far as I know, we can move mailbox or recreate profile to force Outlook to use the new RPC endpoint:
For more information, you can refer to the partition named “When RPC endpoint Changes” in the following article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/aljackie/archive/2013/11/14/outlook-rpc-end-point-and-pf-the-microsoft-exchange-administrator-has-made-a-change-that-requires-you-quit-and-restart-outlook.aspx
If the new Exchange server has the same name with the old one, you can refer to the following article to deal with the different Exchange roles:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb332343(EXCHG.80).aspx
If no, you can just configure the new server as you did with the old one. Then after everything works well for a period of time, we can remove the old one.
For more information about removing Exchange 2010 server, you can refer to the following article:

At this point I am looking for a solution for removing the mailbox role and being able to complete the uninstall of exchange and perform a clean install.
Any additional help with this is very much appreciated. -

I am having an issue when I accept calendar invites in the native/modern application for calendaring in Win 8.1. Whenever I then go back to open and view the contents of a meeting, all the notes are truncated and removed after closing that event.
We are running exchange 2010 for the email server.
The machine is not domain joined/managed (local account only).
Any assistance greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

I'm trying to remove Exchange 2007 from an SBS 2008 server
(Server 2008 Standard FE). My ultimate goal is to completely remove the SBS 2008 Server from the network environment.
We have an Exchange 2010 Coexistence Scenario and Mailboxes/Public Folders/etc have been moved over to the 2010 mail server, on Server 2008 R2.
I have moved all Shares, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, etc over to their respective servers. We have two full blown DC's in the environment.
I'm ready to remove Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 and DCPROMO the server. I can NOT seem to find a TechNet article that shows me how
to proceed in this kind of scenario. I am trying to use the TechNet article:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(v=ws.10).aspx
This article references Disabling Mailboxes, Removing OAB, Removing Public Folder Databases, then uninstalling Exchange using the Setup Wizard.
When I go to Disable Mailboxes I get the following error:
Microsoft Exchange Error
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'Username (edited)'.
Username (edited)
Failed
Error:
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.
OK
I really don't see why I need to Disable Mailboxes, Remove OAB and Public Folder Databases since they have been moved to 2010. I just want
to remove Exchange 2007 and DCPROMO this server (actually I just want to remove any lingering Exchange AD Objects referring to the SBS 2008 Server, using the easiest and cleanest method possible).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks!Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that you are in a migration process (migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2). Now, you want to remove Exchange Server and demote server. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

Removing mailbox server from Exchange 2010 DAG - Node not fully cleaned up
Hi,
We are in the process of decommissioning some old Exchange 2010 servers. I have just attempted to remove one of our mailbox servers and have received a number of errors, related to its removal from the DAG.
I have already removed the Public Folder replicas and all mailbox database copies. I then tried to evict the server from the DAG and received the following warning:
I then ran the command that was recommended, from another server and in an administrative command prompt:
I have looked in this log on both the server I ran the command on, a CAS server, and the mailbox server itself and can see no evidence of this error 2 that is listed here.
If I run the Powershell command to look at the DAG I cannot see it there any more. I am assuming that this error message might only be an issue if I was planning on re-using this server somewhere else in Exchange or perhaps adding this server to another
DAG. But I just want to decommission it.
Can anyone put my mind at rest as to whether this is a genuine concern or not. If not my next step is to uninstall Exchange 2010 from this server and turn it off.Hi Belinda,
I get the following:
[PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
Name Member Servers
Operational Servers
DAG01 {WSR-EX-01, WSR-EX-101, WSR21}
It doesn't look like that server is part of the DAG any more as far as I can see. I just can't explain that error message reported from the cluster command. As far as I can see the server is isolated. I already removed its database copies as a pre-requisite
before removing it from the DAG as per this guide:
http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_27039933.html
I found a nice little script that gave reports on your Public Folder configuration and it highlighted that some of our folders were not being replicated properly across our mailbox servers. This helped me in removing these services from the server.
It is currently doing nothing at this time as far as Exchange Services are concerned. -
Removing mailbox server exchange 2010
Dear all,
I have two mailbox servers, when I try to uninstall mailbox server roll on the exchange 2010 Mailbox server1 I get below error msg.
Failed
Error:
This Mailbox server is responsible for generating an Offline Address Book. Removal of the Mailbox role is not permitted
If I move an offline Address book from Mailbox server1 to Mailbox server2 then I guess it should be okay?
Also get below error msg as well, do I need to take care of anything else before I remove the mailbox server role ?
Error:
Setup cannot continue with the uninstall because the 'beremote' () process (ID: 2076) has open files. Close the process and restart Setup.
Thanks !!!Hi Ms-2010,
Before you uninstall the first Exchange 2010 Server, you need to fix few prerequisites warning/errors for a clean uninstallation.
Four points should be considered:
1. Change the OAB (Offline Address Book) generation role to other available server.
2. Remove the server from DAG membership.
3. Move the Arbitration mailboxes to another available Mailbox Server.
4. Ensure that none of the databases are using public folder of this server as default and Move Public folder replica to other available mailbox server.
Hope it is helpful.
Best regards,
Eric -
