Removing Final Cut Studio

I currently have an academic version of Final Cut Studio 2 and have purchased a new academic version of FCS 3.
Question: Must I first uninstall the old Studio 2, and if so what is the best way? Has anyone used the Digital Rebellion FCS remover?

Question: Must I first uninstall the old Studio 2.
You do not need to uninstall FCS2 in order to install FCS3. All the relevant application files will be overwritten upon installation of the new version. Also consider the fact that FCS2 has Live Type.app which is not included with FCS3 so if you remove all of FCS2 by installing fresh from OS then you will lose Live Type.app. Most of Live Type/s features have been migrated into Motion 4, but if you're used to working in the Live Type application then it's something to consider when installing the new application.
If you create disk images of the application DVD's then you will be installing from the disk images on a hard drive instead of reading the DVD's. This will cut the installation time down to about 1/2 hour vs. 90 mins. from DVD installation. Also you won't have to stick around to wait for the DVD to install and manually remove and insert the next DVD in the drive. You simply open the disk images and run the installation then come back in a half hour and it's all done automatically. If you've done this with all your application disks besides FCS3 then it would hardly take a week to reinstall from scratch as you've suggested. It's also recommended to backup your application disks to disk images anyway just like any other files you have... What would you do if you lost or damaged your FCS3 installation DVD's without disk image backups?

  • How can i remove final cut studio 7?

I would like to completely remove the installation of Final Cut Studio 7.0.3 from my start-up drive prior to upgrading the FCPX 10.0.3; what is the best practice to remove all of its apps prior to installing/upgrading via the App Store?

    Thank you Shane,
Although I consider your BEST practice much like cutting off your head to get rid of the headache the Second best solution appears to have worked just as well.

  • How to remove Final Cut Studio content, extras, etc?

    Hi,
I want to say that I do not want to delete the apps. What I want to do is only remove the extra content.
Essentially, I installed the entire Final Cut Studio on my MacBook Pro and am realizing I should not have done the complete install (eats up hard drive like no tomorrow).
So.. any / all advice would be greatly appreciated!!
    Thanks!

In Motion, open the Motion preferences found in the Motion menu... on the front page you see the path names to templates and livefonts... If you remove them, you could place them on another drive like a FW drive... and access them that way.
In Livetype, The media files are located in Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/LifeType/Templates. You could move them, then add their new location to the window that opens when you select LiveType's Preferences. Then LT will look for templates in this new location.
In DVD SP, the location of styles and templates is near the same path as in LiveType, however in the DVD SP folder. To reset them to a new location, the preferences for DVD SP you can change the location of where DVD SP looks for these...
I'd not want to lose them altogether, but you won't hurt anything doing so... I'd put them on an external drive and reset where the various apps look for them, and if all is well, delete the originals...

  • If I clean install my Mac, how will I reinstall Final Cut Studio?

I'm experiencing a blue screen issue with my iMac 10.6 with Snow Leopard.  And I'm resorting to doing a clean install.  I'm thinking this will remove Final Cut Studio and it's applications, making me reinstall them on a fresh computer.
Will there be an issue reinstalling this license on the same computer?  Because I can not go into the computer now to uninstall FCS.  I've been sifting through the forums and Google and haven't found an answer.

    >Will there be an issue reinstalling this license on the same computer?
No. It'll install fine.  There is no way to un-license it from your machine, like Adobe and Avid require, because you don't license it. It's just installed.
Simply reinstall from the original disks and you will be fine.

You can have them both on the same computer as I and many others have done for years.
Just go ahead and install FCS 3 normally.
There will be absolutely no problems.

  • Final Cut Studio license invalid after upgrading to Leopard?

    Hello,
After upgrading to Leopard 10.5.1, Final Cut Studio v5.1.4 and its companion apps like DVD Studio 4 do not recognize my FC Studio License as valid. I input the license key and it says:
    "Licensing Error
This application cannot continue because the licensing data is corrupt."
I am a licensed user via the FC Studio Crossgrade since 2006 and all has been fine with Tiger before Leopard.
I have used Disk Utility to "repair permissions". I have removed the FC files from the Preferences folder to give it a clean start.
    PERHAPS A HINT?:
So I tried to re-install FC Studio 5.1 from the FC Install DVD and I get this message after inputting the key:
    "Alert
Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
I have Administrator privileges on this account and I even tried to install it as 'root' and the same error occurs.
Is there a file that I need to change permissions on?
THANKS for any help here! And happy holidays.
    Bonafide

    Hi,
Unfortunately there is also an issue with installing FCS2 on a brand new installation with Leopard and this licensing error.
"Alert Licensing Error: The license file will not be written to disk because the user does not have enough privileges."
This also occurs, apparently, that if you are logged in with an Active Directory user with Admin privileges it still will not let you install the product keys.
This is much the same as a problem with Adobe CS3 products, only the updates work when you are logged in with a local admin - not an Active Directory Admin.
Both these problems are really really annoying for those on corporate networks - such as myself.
For my problem, I had to log out as my AD account, login as a local admin and then install the software. .

  • Is it unlawful to sell my used final cut studio version 3 software?

I had listed my software at eBay after deauthorizing it from my Mac Pro. Was I under a contract with Apple that prevented me from reselling the software?(I'm afraid I don't have time to read pages of fine print.) Here's the message I just received from eBay after the closed my auction:
You recently listed the following listing:
300791938347 - Apple Final Cut Studio Version 3 (Version 2 Retail plus Version 3 Upgrade)
    Your listing has been removed.
Your item was removed because of a request we received from BSA (Business Software Alliance) (US), a member of our Verified Rights Owner Program (VeRO), asking us to remove the item for:

    eBay heavily "overprotects" copyright owners.
The BSA is hired by Apple to look out for copyright violations. They simply go after everything without any investigation. eBay plays along and so you are the one with the problem to do something completely lega.
Here is the relevant section of FCS's SLA:
    3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone applications.
This means that you are allowed to sell the package if you are the original owner of the software.

  • I need to re-install Final Cut Studio 2

After a major problem on my original booting HD - 6 years old - that I discovered while backing it up with SuperDuper (used successfully for years), I had to exchange it and after a week of fiddling... I managed to save almost everything from that faulty drive using Data Rescue II and Disk Image Restauration and have now my system almost back in shape - most of the programs (QT Pro, Photoshop CS, Acrobat, aso. requesting simply their original license/serial numbers BUT its another story for my suite of editing programs...
FCP is seemingly running but the rest of the Studio is not! I finally came to the conclusion that I have to re-install the whole FINAL CUT STUDIO 2 that itself is an upgrade of FINAL CUT PRO HD!
My question is quite simple: how do I go about desinstalling EVERYTHING so I can make a fresh new install?
    Thanks for help and wisdom
    Philippe

    Nick,
Data Rescue worked fine for me - for everything but the Final Cut Suite - for my other programs like Photoshop aso, I just had to get my hands on my license numbers to get them back to work ! You might have had a problem Data Rescue describes in their manual as wrong ABL "allocation block layout" ! Please don't ask me more on that... I have no clue on what they're talking about!
I did erase everything Final Cut with FCS Remover, then re-installed FCP HD, then upgraded, then installed FC Studio 2 then upgraded (a busy day talking with those dialog boxes) so I supposedly now got everything back to before crash/drive exchange. I will give it a real test in the morning.
    Thanks for your imput.

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and video app chaos

    Hi,
Did anyone find after installing Final Cut Studio 2 that their 3rd party apps to do with video extraction/conversion suddenly start to unexpectedly quit when in operation? It's a brand new MacPro, lovely machine until Final Cut software went and messed things up. I won't mention the trouble I had to install both Logic Studio and FCS since they both share similar components and included apps, Apple's installer is not designed to cope and I had to mess about with the receipts folder to get both installed. This page was available yesterday http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1110?locale=en_GB to give an insight of the problems between the two. Anyhow, I think the best solution is to remove Final Cut software as I'm not up for spending hours debugging.

I had a huge issue pop up with me too...and I figured the best way was to wipe the drive, install the OS and FCP from scratch. Took a day, but better than spending more time trying to figure things out.

  • Re-installing Final Cut Studio 2 on Snow Leopard?

    Hello All,
I had reason to uninstall Final Cut Studio 2 off my machine because of problems with Compressor and Motion. I followed the Apple help doc on how to uninstall FCS2. However when I go to re-install from the main install disc, it runs fine until it gets to the Run Package Scripts part at the end...then it just stalls (my disc drive stops spinning). Is there any other tools out there to fix the problem? I know about FCS Remover, but that doesn't seem to do the trick. Any suggestions?

I'll bet that some daemon is running in the background. And since the file was removed, the installer is getting confused. It's like having the rug pulled from underneath you.
Did you stop the "corresponding" Final Cut Studio daemon(s) as well when you removed all the files? If not, then find out what they are and stop them and try installing again. Make sure you know what you're stopping; you do not want to stop the System and Finder daemons. If you're not sure, do so at your own risk.

  • Final Cut Studio crash after OS 10.6.5 update

    10.6.5 and Final Cut Studio.
Final Cut studio is not working after 10.6.5 update. Have spinning ball of death on many projects and exports from FCP crash Compressor and DVD Studio Pro (or they crash of their own accord)
    Question: Reinstall FCP??
Question: is anything lost when deleting current FCS??
Do not want to roll back to previous OS. Have done too much stuff since, and it's complicated.

    Question: Reinstall FCP??
As a last resort, maybe. Have you tried using Disk Utility to repair permissions?
Did you install the ProKit 6.0.1 update? There are some threads here that advise not to do so.
You can find out by opening the Software Update pane in System Preferences and looking under the Installed Updates tab.
Question: is anything lost when deleting current FCS??
The applications, accompanying media content, associated libraries etc will be removed. You will not lose project files or media that you have imported from cameras or other sources.

  • Final Cut Studio install problems

Well I was thrilled to get Final Cut Studio 2, but cannot get the thing installed. Looking to do a 100% uninstall so I can start fresh
    I have the following disks:
    1. Final Cut Studio
    2. DVD Studio
    3. Livetype1
    4. Livetype2
    5. Motion
On my first install everything went as planned and it asked me for serial number. I made it thru the first disk with no problems, and the 2nd one installed for awhile, but suddenly stopped. A message popped up saying to put the Final Cut Studio disk back in. When I did that it failed. So I followed these steps:
    Delete the User Preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Final Cut Pro back to its original settings. This will not impact your project files, but you should verify your Scratch Disk location setting after doing this. To reset your Final Cut Pro user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences—the tilde (~) represents your Home folder.
Remove the "com.apple.finalcutpro.plist" file from the Preferences folder.
Remove the "Final Cut Pro User Data" folder from the Preferences folder.
Remove receipts and reinstall Final Cut Pro
Another approach you might consider is reinstalling Final Cut Pro. To do this effectively, you need to remove the application and its receipts, then install Final Cut Pro and use Software Update to install additional updates. You don't have to remove everything that was installed with Final Cut Pro. Follow the steps below to completely reinstall a fresh copy of Final Cut Pro. Note: Make sure that you have your installation discs and serial number handy before starting this.
    Open the Applications folder.
Drag the Final Cut Pro application to the Trash.
    Go to /Library/Receipts.
In the Receipts folder, select the "FinalCutPro.pkg" file.
Choose View > as List to view the contents in a list.
Click the Date Modified column header so you can easily see all of the receipts that were installed at the same time as Final Cut Pro.
Drag the FinalCutPro.pkg receipt to the Trash, as well as any other items that have the same modification date within 3 minutes of the FinalCutPro.pkg's modification date.
Click the Name column header to sort the list alphabetically.
Drag any other receipts whose names begin with "Final Cut Pro" to the Trash.
Insert your Final Cut Pro installation disc and install Final Cut Pro.
When finished, use Software Update (under the Apple menu) to update your software to the latest version.
I started a fresh install, but noticed it never asked me again for my serial number. I was skeptical, but the installation went on and I made it all the way to the last disk, but when I put the Motion disk in the computer seemed to struggle to read the disk and eventually asked for the FCP disk to be put back in which resulted in another error.
I have tried several times since then to get this thing installed but keep failing. I worry about how it never asks me for a serial number. Are there some files that I am not deleting?
I have also tried to install one disk at a time and installing without Content.
    Using a brand new Imac

Not sure if this is related but I've upgraded from FCS 1 to FCS 2 and all went well. I've now started to install all the various application media and Motion fails around 75% through the installation. I've tried to do a disk image of the disk but again that fails approx. 75% of the way through with the error "I/O error"
Tried the Soundtrack Pro media this morning and got through the first disk and again about 75% through disk 2 the installation failed.
Maybe Apple has bought a job lot of 'cheap' DVD's to save some money? I'll pop into an Apple store and see what they have to say!

  • Final Cut Studio 2-Error Installing

    Hi,
I insert the Disk and after a minute I get the following message:
"There were errors installing the software"
Previously I had FInal Cut Express which was removed. I noticed instead of an install I am getting an "upgrade" when installing?
    Any advice?
    Thanks
    I am running QuickTime Player_7.5.5

Which version of Final Cut Studio did you purchase ... the full retail version or an upgrade version?
