Removing fire wire cable from camera?

It doesn't state anywhere in my instructions how to remove the cable from my camera. I didn't push the cable into the cable adapter before plugging it in, and it is unsteady on the mount now. How can I fix this? I notice two slits right next to the plug, but I don't know how to use them to allow the cable to be released.

Hello Sofia,
If the camera that you write about is iSight, the clearest instructions you will find for it are in the User's Guide (instructions) that came in the box with your iSight. If you cannot understand those instructions, ask a friend, family member, or the retailer who sold you your iSight for help. This will be
b much
easier for you in person than trying to read any restatement of the instructions from the User's Guide.
If you cannot find your iSight User's Guide, you can download it here.
If you need still more help, there is more information about iSight and Firewire in the iSight Tips and FAQ.
If the Sight: Firewire connectivity frequently asked questions (FAQ) do not help you, look in Apple's iSight Support Page. In addition to iSight: Common troubleshooting tips linked there, there are several additional items about Firewire there.

All you need, if you've the non-Retina model, is a FireWire 400 to FireWire 800 cable -> such as this one from Amazon.
I know that there's a UK Amazon - can you order from there? Or is there a French Amazon as well?

  • Anybody know if they make fire wire cables for the mini

does anybody know if there is a fire wire cable that will fit into the mini?

    Hi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions
You can still get them at the Apple Store. I believe you want Apple iPod Dock Connector to FireWire Cable.

  • HT201180 What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

What type of Fire Wire cable to use to connect MacBook Pro 2009 to tape-based Sony TRV720 camcorder

USB is the slowest. Firewire is faster. eSata is the fastest (and will be superceded by Thunderbolt).  The old Fire was 4 pin (Firewire 400 and is essentially obsolete), new is 9 pin, Firewire 800.  All of the will transmit data, simply a different speeds.
For eSata connectivity, you MBP must have an express card slot (and the appropriate eSata connection card) and you external enclosure must have an eSata input.  eSata cables will only transmit data, therefor it will require power by Firewire or USB cables.

  • Video out fire wire port from iTunes?

Final cut and Pro Tools LE both have the ability to send video from a G5 to a TV out of the fire wire port via a Canopus ADVC-110. Why doesn't iTunes? I understand that the new Mac TV gizmo plus an airport card will do this, but I already have all the hardware I need for this to work. I just need iTunes to take advantage of the same external video option that Final Cut and Pro Tools LE have. Anyone know of a patch or something that would make this happen. Or at least a stand alone player that will play the m4v iTunes video files and play video out fire wire port to my canopus which will then send it to the TV?

In an attempt to get my iTunes downloaded TV episodes to play on my TV without having to buy the Apple TV hardware and an airport card I have been trying to find a way to convert the m4v video files into a format that can be read by a stand alone player that allows me to output video playback through my fire wire port so my canopus box can then send it to my tv and stereo. I tried iSquint and it does not work. I get an AppleScript error "Can't make "" into type real. (-1700)" If you hit OK the program then spins it's wheels with the progress report "Preparing Audio for File 1..." It is still my belief that Apple should enable iTunes to output video through the fire wire port. Since Final Cut Pro and Pro Tools LE have that ability and it works I assume that it should work wth iTunes. Please send iTunes feedback from within iTunes and ask apple to add this option to iTunes.

  • What fire  wire cable?

I want to attach a fire wire device to my new Mac mini. I can not find a cable with a connector that fits the little fire wire receptical on the Mac. The standard plug is 6 pin, the same as on my old FW800 Mac. So I bought a 6 pin to 4 pin, not right. The IEEE 1394 says there are 6 pin to 6 pin (which I have) , 6 pin to 4 pin, and 6 pin to 9 pin. Could the Mac have a 9 pin receptical?? I wouldn't ask but the cables are $8.00 each and the store won't take it back once it's ripped open.
    Thanks Bob

Bob, there is a brief description of the options on this page:

  • Fire wire cable for I-pod Touch

    Hi all,
Just a quick question, my cat decided to rip my I-pod touch usb connection cable apart today, so I went & got a new 1 which had the connection that goes into the I-pod it-self, 1 x usb connection and 1 x firewire 400 connection (its an apple product), So I thought great firewire will transfer data across quicker than usb, got home plugged in the I-pod via firewire and I-tunes would not see my Ip-pod but it does when you use the usb bit.
Does an I-pod touch not support a firewire connection ? any help would be great.

    In a word, no.
Nor the Gen 5 or any iPod since. Speed really was not much different on those that did support it though so not a huge loss, and you should still be able to charge via FW, my Gen 5 charges while you get a little message telling you FW doesn't work. Never tried on my Touch.
    No message telling you this?

  • Install Mac OS X from an External Fire WIre HD : PROBLEM!!!!

Hey guys, I have a MacBook and I wanted to re-install the Mac OS X software. My internal dvd drive doesn't seem to work anymore so I tried to install the OS on a partition of my fire wire drive, from my brother MacBook, no problem there. When I tried to boot my mac from the FireWire Drive, I wasn't able to install it to my computer. Now, the only way I can do anything is if I do it from the FW drive...
Is there anything I can do to solve to problem??

Were you able to boot your other computer from the FW drive? What did you put on the FW drive? Did you actually install OS X onto the FW drive?
If you installed OS X onto the FW drive and can boot the computer with it, then just clone it to your other computer. See the following:
Clone using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    1. Open Disk Utility from the Utilities folder.
    2. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
    3. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (journaled, if available) and click on the Erase button. This step can be skipped if the destination has already been freshly erased.
    4. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
    5. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
    6. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to the Source entry field.
    7. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the internal drive on the computer mounted in TDM.
Source means the external FW drive.
If you can connect both computers by FW, then you could actually clone the system from the working computer to the one with the bad optical drive using the above procedure. Destination would be the computer with the bad optical drive booted into TDM. Source is the good computer that you boot normally.

  • Fire wire - # and number of pins?

I want to add an external drive to my mac mini (non intel), and I plan to do this with a fire wire connection. I have found that fire wire cables are defined by the number of pins (4 or 6) an number IEEE-1396 or 1394. I believe I need to buy a cable, IEEE-1394 with 6 pins on each end. Can anyone confirm this belief before I buy the cable.
    Thank you for your comments.

    Hi,
I admit I have never heard of IEEE 1396 before you posted it here.
However a quick googling came up with quite some hits.
To my knowledge (and from the Google hits) it seems that IEEE 1396 is used to determine a 6-pin to 6-pin cable connection, whereas IEEE 1394 is used for a 6-pin to 4-pin cable connection.
4-pin ports are usually only used with external devices, that don't need/want to draw power from the Firewire cable (like Digital cameras and the like) or computers (like Notebooks) that don't provide power over the Firewire cable.
Nonetheless the only 'official' name for Firewire of any kind is IEEE 1394 with the addition of small letters like 'a' 'b' or 'c' to distinguish the differences in speed (Firewire 400; Firewire 800).
So look at the Firewire ports you want to connect with the cable to determine which cable you need.
Take care and thanks for the star.

  • Video capture stops when connected to FCP using fire wire

Captured video using Sony VX2000 using 48 khz and 16 bit audio stereo mode. Using Sony Premium miniDV tapes.
Video plays back fine when not connected via firewire to G4 dual 867 with 2 GB Ram.
Using default capture preset of 48 khz 16 bit, connect fire wire and video capture randomly stops stating it has lost connection or is missing capture data. If I switch to just plain capture using non controllable device, I have the same issue except the tape keeps playing but FCP stops capturing.
Tried other tapes and no problem.
Tried other fire wire cable and no problem.
I am having problems only on this tape and when connected.
When not connected it plays back on the camera with no stopping.
    Steve Bowers

    To answer your questions--
Dumping preferences usually does not cause problems. More likely you updated some part of your system or are having other hardware issues.
No updates or hardware issues. The original problem (discussed in another thread) was one where the video is skewed inward on the lower right corner. Apple instructed me to dump the preferences and start from scratch. That I did and now I am experiencing problems I did not have before. If it is hardware problems, then I guess it is just coincidental that FCP is just now presenting problems. However, the other problems I am having are software related and does not involve the camera.
What software versions of FCP, OSX and QT are you running and have you updated any of them recently?
    FCP version-5.1.2
    OSX-10.4.8
    QT-7.1.3
Is there anything special about the 'difficult' tape?
    No.
    Did you record it?
    Yes
Was it the last of a bunch?
Not sure. I buy bulk so this was one in a box of 5 that is was in a case of 50 boxes.
Are you using the same camera as the playback device?
    Yes
Does it work if you use another computer?
Not sure what you mean. I have only one MAC G4.
Was it recorded using another camera in a non-DV format?
No. Playback is through same camera is was recorded on.

  • Fire wire question

I just purchased a new mac book pro and I want to sync it up with my old mac book pro, but I don't know what kind of fire wire cable to buy.
The old mac book pro was purchased in 2006-I have no clue waht the correct size cable is for that specific port but I do know that I went to Best Buy-bought the first fire wire cable I saw and it fit into my old computer (I believe it was a 6 pin?)
If someone could just tell me the specific name of a cord that would fit into both my new mac book pro and my old one (circa 2006), I would REALLY appreciate it!!!
    Thanks

You need a cable like this one. If BBY doesn't carry them then try Radio Shack and if you can't find one there just order from Amazon.

  • FINAL CUT CRASH - FIRE WIRE PROBLEM

Alright, this is just my last shot.
I use final cut pro 3 to edit videos, and a miniDV sony camera too. (I even bought new fire wire cables to double check the problem)
Always worked with them, no sweat.
But once I upgraded my iBook with the latest OS version TIGER, my nightmare started. My iBook is the second latest one, still on warranty .....
Final Cut crashes every time I open the LOG AND CAPTURE window. No way, it's impossible .... I tried to re-install the software. The only way (it seems really weird and odd) is to use iMovie to import them.
It's very crazy. I tried the same in a friends computer, and apparently is his, just works fine.

OHH Yes absolutly, I send my originals CD's to apple. I pay 49 dolars for the Crossgrade and Then I install everythiing. I have MY oun lisence all original. But I dont know what is going on.
