Removing gmail from mail

i want to remove my gmail account from mail but it doesn't even appear as an account in my settings or in mail preferences.  any ideas?

nada in other folders.  i can't remember what the difference is between pop or imap but i originally added the account to mail on a 2006 imac that has since been stolen.  when it was stolen, i was making changes to passwords, etc. when it occured to me that i didn't want gmail being checked any more.  i first tried to eliminate the account from my phone but it wasn't there.  i forgot about it for a while until a few days ago when i was setting up my new imac for icloud.  icloud is working cherry but its the only account showing up in preferences yet my gmail emails are still appearing in mail. connection doctor only shows a connection to icloud.

  • Deleting Gmail from Mail.

I read somewhere that there's a way to delete your gmail from Mail. Is this true? And if so, how would I do this?
    Thanks

Since you access a Gmail account as a POP type account with an email client such as the Mail.app, the Mail.app includes a setting for removing messages form the server when downloaded as with other email clients for POP type accounts.
Go to Mail > Preferences > Accounts and under the Advanced tab for the account preferences, select "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:" and the choices below are:
    Right away
    After one day
    After one week
    After one month
    When moved from Inbox.
In addition, select the button with a gear icon at the bottom of the mailboxes drawer and at the bottom of the menu window that appears, select Get Info.
Select your Gmail account via the Account selection and under the Messages on Server tab will display all messages available on the server in the account's Inbox mailbox and you can remove selected messages from the server.

  • Removing "REMINDERS" from Mail sidebar

Hello, is there a way to remove the right arrow with the REMINDERS from the Mail sidebar?  I have no use for them and it would clean up the list.  Thanks!

To remove it from the Dock (not toolbar) just drag it to the desktop - it'll disappear in a puff of virtual smoke.
To remove from the Finder sidebar 'Places', do the same, but with the cmd (⌘) key held down.
To stop it opening when you log on, go to System Preferences > Accounts > Login items, highlight the offending app and click the minus sign below the window.
    If it's not in login items, look for a related file in these locations (the ~/ means your home folder);
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchAgents
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    /Library/StartupItems
    /System/Library/LaunchAgents
    /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
    /System/Library/StartupItems
Be very careful not to disturb anything else in those locations, particularly the System/ ones.
Note; the icons in the Dock and in the Finder sidebar are only aliases (shortcuts) to the actual application in the Applications folder.

  • Cant send gmail from Mail

    hi
sorry for the rather basic question. i can receive but cannot send messages, using gmail, in Mail. my outgoing server was stmp.gmail.com, then i looked up the question in these forums and someone said they could not send with stmp.gmail.com but could with stmp.googlemail.com, so i did that and it worked, but just once. now it doesnt work again. i have it on port 465, because that's how myThunderbird has it setup and it works on there. can anybody tell me what im doing wrong? thanks.

Log on to the GMail webmail, click Settings, then Forwarding and POP/IMAP. At the bottom, click Configuration Instructions. On the next page, click Apple Mail 3 (Leopard). The correct settings are given there.

  • Remove attachments from mail app with imap account

    Hi Folks,
I am quite frustrated. I am using Apple's mail app with Gmail (IMAP) and I want to remove all of my attachments from Gmail. I am using the 'remove attachment' feature of mail app to do this. However, it removes the attachment, then uploads a copy of the original email without the attachment. Therefore, I end up with two emails: The original and a copy without an attachment.
I don't get it. I just want to remove the attachments from my emails. I don't want to delete the original email.
    Any thoughts?

I am not sure when I will get the chance to test this -- maybe this afternoon. But I had not understood that what you called original continued to have the attachments. If so, this strongly suggests to me that it indeed may be the way Gmail maintains the All Mail folder that is causing this. See:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6581
If there is a setting to help this, it will have to be one that is selected in the Settings webpage of Gmail, I suspect.

  • Remove gmail from blackberry 9300

     Hi,
Can anybody tell me how to remove my gmail account from my BB?
I need a step by step instruction please
    Thanks, John
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I'm answering my own question:
    To cancel gmail on blackberry:
    hit menu>
    settings>
    manage internet email>
    hit menu>
    delete>
    click yes
Next time you need to use gmail:
    hit menu>
    settings>
    manage internet email>
    sign in gmail
I think of this as a version of logging in and out of gmail....beating the system
and keeping people from reading your email...

  • Removing Accounts From Mail, Contacts & Calendars

So, I have a problem with something that's just idly bothering me. Recently I've deleted my Twitter account and have no idea how to remove the account from the list of accounts I have linked with my laptop in the Mail, Contacts & Calendars. It's probably a really simple fix, but I'm not computer savvy in the last. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Open System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars, and choose the Twitter account in the sidebar. Then, below this sidebar, you will see a - button:
Press it and this Twitter account will be deleted

  • Batch removing text from mails in folder

    Hi
I have a folder in Mail in which I'm collecting mails from a mailing list that have attached photos. I was wondering whether anyone knows of an automated way of either removing all the text from those mails, just leaving the photos, or, better still, extracting all the photos in the mailbox to put in a normal folder.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Matthew Whiting

Thanks David. That was exactly what I wanted to do, and so simple and so obvious. I knew I posted the question in the Mail folder for a reason.

  • Why can't I remove attachments from mail in Apple Mail 5

I'm sure I used to be able to do this in SL?
I can do it on some messages, but not all, and not quite sure of a rhyme or reason (I've noted others think it doesn't work on Sent mail, but SOME of my sent messages let me delete attachments??)
    Has there been a change?
    Will there be a fix?

I have now created a smart mailbox as described above (good idea), and although I have some 50 messages in my Sent box, all with attachments (waiting to be removed so I can store the messages in the proper mailboxes), the smart mailbox is empty. So, Mail doesn't recognise these messages as containing attachments.
This led me to think that maybe Mail has been redesigned to work the way you would expect it to, at last; to contain a link to attachments instead of including them in all their bits and bytes. That would mean that the messages in my Sent box - with attachments - could be stored in local (or server-side) mailboxes without taking up extensive space.
But then I checked the size of my Sent Messages folder inside the Mail Folder in Finder, and - whoops - it's 50+ MB. So the sent messages do contain attachments all right. And Mail doesn't recognise these, since a) the smart mailbox trick says that the messages are free from attachments, and b) the Remove Attachments menu option is disabled.
I will have to wait for the next Mail update, and my Sent box will grow accordingly ...

  • Is there anyway to remove REMINDERS from Mail 5.0 sidebar?

This is really bugging me.  I have removed flags and have nothing under REMINDERS, yet, it still has Flagged as a subfolder in the sidebar.  What I'd like to do is TOTALLY remove the REMINDERS.  Any ideas on this?  In Snow-Leopard, all you had to do was remove notes and restart and it was gone - no such luck here.
    Thanks!

Yes, at least the following worked for me.
I had a similar situation where flagging one eMail message automatically created the "Reminders" mailbox on the sidebar with a "Flagged" section. Same thing with "Notes". I unflagged, deleted, also did the same thing with the note, and although it was empty (no note and no flagged message), the "Reminders" section along with "Flagged" and "Notes" sub-sections remained. I couldn't get rid of it. I came across the same issue on another discussion here, and someone suggested the following (I am pasting their response):
OK, I've got some good news for you. Go into your Applications folder and find the Mail.app folder. Drag it to the dock where you have your old mail dock. It will not place two mail icons in the dock, but what it will do is when you open up mail from the dock, it will mysteriously remove that annoying Reminders in your mailbox pane to the left.
You may have to open mail using the mail.app folder in your applications folder first before this actually works. All the rest of your mailboxes will be there, the only thing that is removed is the Reminders.
I tried it, and it worked for me. If it works for you, let me know, and I will include the link to the discussion, and the member who suggested it. Keep in mind that the member states the "Mail.app folder", there is no folder, it is just Mail.app.

  • Sending GMAIL from Mail.app generates multiple items in Trash

I just recently began using Mail.app for my Gmail and I’ve got a problem. I noticed that when I draft a short Gmail and send it out, I get multiple copies of the e-mail in Trash. But each copy there contains only a few words from the original. For example, the first copy may contain only the first three words of the original. Subsequent copies in Trash display the remainder of the original. I sent out a 20 word e-mail and it was broken down into 10 different entries in Trash. Anyone else have the same problem?

    jackgm,
I have to Gmail accounts; a free account, and a university Google Apps (.edu) account. Both accounts behave exactly the same on three different Macs.
The bottom line is it's a pretty well known issue with Apple Mail and Gmail. The easiest solution is to turn off "Save Drafts on Server".
It's a minor annoyance but hardly a major issue. For a long while, if you mapped Sent in Mail.app to the Sent Items folder in Gmail, you'd get duplicate copies of all your sent e-mails--Apple has since fixed this (thankfully).

  • Remove Password from Mail

Whenever I click on the mail icon to get email, it asks me for a password. Then, sporadically and unpredictably, while I am using mail it will ask me again for the password (and again, and again). I don't want Mail to be passworded, although I password my computer to wake it. Can someone help me turn off the password to Mail? Thanks

I had been using Telus for several years when I started to get the exact same issue with Mail prompting me for my IMAP password three or four times a day. It turned out that it was a problem at Telus's end. A call to their tech support line confirmed that they were having an issue and that it would be resolved in a few days. It was.
    I've only made two changes lately;
    1) I reset my SMTP for a while as I was on the road but then set it back to the original config.
    2) I downloaded 10.6.4 update.
That and my own experience with my ISP leads me to believe your problem is with your ISP and not your Mac.
