Removing/hiding Boot Camp partition from VMWare Fusion?

I've just created and configured a Windows Vista Boot Camp partition and all is well. However I don't want to use it within VMWare Fusion but VMW displays it. Is there a way I can stop it from appearing in the VMW menu?

I've been sharing a boot camp partition with Fusion for a while. I don't know when it happened but when I recently tried to log in using Boot Camp, the partition didn't show up in Apple's start up screen or in the Finder even though I could see it in Fusion.
I needed to expand the partition so I backed it up with Winclone changed the partition from 40 to 75 gig and reinstalled the Winclone file.
Now I'm unable to boot into Windows using Fusion and I still can't see the Boot Camp partition when I start up.

I saw R.NTFS so I started on the Windows DVD and ran Repair.
Unfortunately I still can't get Boot Camp to do anything beside give me a flashing cursor on a black screen.

Can i "copy" a 200 GB boot camp partition from Mac Pro to MBP?

i spent a lot of time working with virtual machines and i have decided i simply have to increase the size of my mac pro HD and put a boot camp partition in it.
can i COPY a 200 GB windows 7 boot camp partition from my 1 TB Mac Pro drive to a 200 GB partition on my MBP that will have a 500 GB drive?
this would let me focus on doing a full install and full setup on the Mac Pro and just copy this over to the MBP (when i get the new drive) saving me a ton o time.

How many licenses for Windows 7 via both Boot Camp and either VMware Fusion or Parallels on the same MacBook?

This concerns a white MacBook running OS X 10.5.8 Leopard.
If I install Windows 7 on my MacBook with Boot Camp, and then use either VMware Fusion or Parallels to access that Boot Camp partition, will I need to buy two Windows licenses from Microsoft?
I had not anticipated this, but when calling VMware and Parallels to check out the tech support services of the two companies, the person at VMware mentioned that I would need two licenses. When I called Parallels, I then asked the person at that company whether two Windows licenses would be needed. That person told me that only one license would be necessary.
I then called Microsoft. The representative there told me that my question could not be answered by Microsoft because that company does not provide support for users installing Windows on Apple computers.
After that, I called Apple. The Apple representative was not familiar with this type of issue. She mentioned the possibility that the VMware Fusion and Parallels products might be different, and that that might be why using the former would involve two licenses and using the latter would involve only one license.
Has anyone had experience with installing Windows 7 via Boot Camp, and then accessing that Windows 7 installation from VMware Fusion or Parallels? If so, did you have to buy two Windows licenses?

One license. You may have to re-register Windows online when you start it up in Parallels because Windows sees that it is now running on new hardware (virtualized) and thinks it has been installed on a new computer. If the online re-registration does not work, just call the registration number and go through the automated registration process. Once re-registered then use Windows from Parallels. If you are also installing MS Office in Windows you will need to go through the same process again for registering Office.
The process is automated, simple, and free. You have made the process more complicated than it is by calling Apple, Parallels, and Microsoft when there is an automated MS registration number to call.

I just installed parallels and you can use your bootcamp partition for the vm with parallels as well. Its pretty slick. Use it for light applications with parallel, reboot to bootcamp for graphics intensive ones.

Can I install a BootCamp partition (Wndows 7) on a 1 TB on which OSX mac Yosemite or Mavericks has been installed first? I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, that already has a 400 GB Boot Camp partition, but I am considering replacing it with a fusion disc or an SSD since I shall have to install a windows compatible medical dictation application that could use a speedier disc. Will Mac OS and Windows interfere with each other on the SSDpart of a large fusion disc ( 1 TB) if I switch back and forth from rebooting on Mac OS , then on Windows and vice-versa? 1. On single-disk Macs, you can use an SSHD (as a single physical disk), but not an SSD/HDD. There is a no single physical unit which is a Fusion drive. A Fusion drive consists of a physical SSD and a physical HDD. MBPs on which the Optibay has an SSD/HDD and main bay with SSD/HDD will support a Fusion (aka CoreStorage volume). Yosemite supports a Fusion drive, which has an internal SSD and and external HDD (the reverse makes no sense, but is possible).
2. On newer Macs, with 1TB PCIe flash, you have an SSD as your whole drive.
3. The two environments, OS X and Windows are self-contained, on separate partitions. The underlying hardware is common.
4. On a Mini, which supports two drives, I have a 256g SSD/1TB HDD, in a DIY Fusion drive, with Windows on the SSD part. Bootcamp Assistant does not support this, but third-party tools can be used. The other option is to install OS X and Windows on a SSD, and later add an HDD and include into a CS volume. This is what I would recommend for you.
5. The 13-in 2012 MBP will allow you use a USB installer, without the need for an Optical drive, so it is possible to replace the Optibay with an HDD, create a Fusion drive. If BCA is used, it will put Windows on the HDD on this specific machine if the Fusion drive is created first.

Can't see Windows 7 Boot Camp partition from Mac

I've had a Win7 boot partition on my 2011 MBP for a while and it boots just fine. I have a Mac boot partition, a Mac data partition, and a NTFS Win 7 partition. But the Boot Camp partition is greyed out and invisible when booted in to the Mac.
When in Windows, I can see and use the Mac partition from Win7 with MacDrive. The problem is that I cannot see the Windows partition from the Mac. I have Paragon NTFS for Mac installed as well as MacFuse. I tried to see the partition with CampTune and got this error:

Does anyone know if I can repair this without having to re-format? I have a 13" White MacBook as well and this setup works just fine. I did it such a long time ago that I forgot how I did the first one.
There is another thread on here that similar but not quite like my problem because I ca actually boo into Windows.

Ever transfer a Boot camp partition from one Mac to another?

My iMac has a working Windows 7 running on Boot Camp partition. I want to move it -- system and all, every last bit -- to my MacBook Pro. I installed Win 7 on the MacBook Pro and Windows said it would not authorize the system cause I installed it too many times. I'll have to move my copy of Mac Office 2010 also.
1) Is this possible?
2) Will it accept the copied files as an authorized copy of Windows 7?
Any suggestions, other than buying a new license?

You can use an imaging program like Ghost or Truimage. Windows will prompt for reactivation if it detects "too many changed devices." A different CPU and network card or motherboard chipset will usually be enough. Basically different motherboard means reactivation so more than likely both Windows and MSOffice will need reactivation since your MBP is a different motherboard than the iMac.
However, back to the activation thing. I'm assuming you're just trying the automated internet activation. If you've not been abusive and this is a legitimate reinstall, (i.e.: this is just the 2nd time reinstalling in the past year or two,) then just call Microsoft using the phone number you see when the reactivation fails. If they ask, tell them you bought a new computer or had to replace a hard drive. They will then give you the reactivation key to type in. I've done this with reinstalling various versions of Windows and MSOffice and calling Microsoft has always worked, of course taking a little longer to deal with the person on the phone versus clicking the mouse. Again, this assumes this is a legitimate "move" and you've not been reactivating every couple of weeks, which would look suspicious. I've never called in a "suspicious" instance so I don't know how Microsoft will deal with that. But otherwise it's relatively painless.

Stop Windows (Boot Camp) partition from Mounting

Ok all, I am at my wits end here. I installed XP in boot camp and now I've got a lovely "Untitled" partition sitting on my OS X desktop. I know this can be hidden, but I don't want to hide it. I don't want OS X to mount it at all. I have tried fstab and fstab.hd but it looks like all support for these has been removed in a recent update. So HOW do I do stop automount on a local volume? As far as I can tell it is impossible to control how your computer mounts local volumes, but I am hoping I'm wrong, because that would be utterly ridiculous on Apple's part.

A workaround might be to create an automator workflow that ejects/unmounts the unused partition. Set the script to run when you log in, and it will unmount the drive. I do that for a partitioned FireWire drive that I use for backups. I want my TM backup partition to stay, but have other partitions be unmounted, so the script grabs them and ejects them.

i recently installed windows via boot camp and i decided that i dont want it when i try to delete it via disk utility it wouldnt allow me and said that it is unmodifiable

In Mac OS X, go to Boot Camp Assistant (applications, utilities) and run it again. Instead of installng again, it will give you an option to remove the partition.

i want to get rid of the windows xp part without getting rid of the entire config, wiping the hard drive, and while retaining windows 7

Well you should first backup your data to a external drive and disconnect.
Next launch disk utility in the utilities folder and click on the internal media drive on the left and click parittion tab.
Normally you should be able to click on the bootcamp partition and click the little "-" sign and then click on the partition above it (the OS X partition) and there should be a corner draggie thing to extend to cover the deleted second parittion, then click apply.
You can only delete and extend down, not up, and you can't move data, just delete with along with the partition.
If it doesn't work, well you know what you got to do.

Removing Boot Camp Partition after now using Parallels

Is it possible to completely remove the boot camp partition (under Snow Leopard) without having to reformat the HD and reinstall everything? I don't need it now that I am using Parallels with an XP virtual machine installed on my OSX partition.

Once in OS X go to System Preferences - Startup Volume and set OSX to be the default.
On the next reboot ist should automatically boot into OSX.

Daily Backup for Boot Camp partition

I'm looking for a Windows software to perform daily incremental backups from my Boot Camp partition to an external USB drive. It should also be possible to restore the COMPLETE Boot Camp partition from that backup in case of a hard drive failure. (It's NOT necessary that various versions of files are kept around-the-clock like Time Machine does. It's also not necessary that the backup itself is bootable.)
I've tried Genie TimelIne, but unfortunately it wasn't able to manage a complete restore. The taskbar was missing, no applications were installed (only present), settings were missing after the restore..., so I had to manually install nearly everything.
I've heard "Macrium Reflect" should be better. Is this true or does anyone have another good tip?
BTW I'm not looking for a solution to backup from the Boot Camp partition to the OS X partition and I don't want to create a complete clone every day.

Well, Anyone elses personal experience won't mean much to you unless they have the same setup as you, so asking others for personal experience is as much of a crap shoot for you as doing it yourself. I went through lots of testing several years ago on my first MacBook Pro, but almost none of that testing is valid for my current machine. With the variations in machines, and machine configurations, what works for someone else might not work for you, and what might work for you might not work for someone else. I learned this when I was testing Colnexzilla as a possible backup/cloning tool. It worked fine on my MacBook Pro, but wouldn't work properly for a number of other users.

I agree that what you are asking for seems rather confusing. You talk about backing up your data on your Windows partition, and you talk about performing incremental backups. The WIndows 7 Data backup utility it perfect for tasks like that. It's when you start wanting to perform disk image backups, and then ontop of that perform incremental image backups of your Windows partition that things get challenging and confusing. If you use the Windows 7 data backup and perform incremental backups, you will have a backiup of all your data from the Windows partition. Isn't that want you want? If you want to perform a restore, it will not restore you back to a bootable drive, but it will have all your data and files backed up. At this time, I'm not sure that any software exists which can make backup image of your Boot Camp/Windows partition when runnign MacOS that will make a backup image that cna restore to a bootable volume and can do incremental backups. There are few, if any backup tools that will run runder native Windows on your Boot Camp partition that will make an image file backup that can do incremental backups, and also allow you to restore to a bootable partition. I beleive that the Paragon software is one of the very few that can do this. I have tried and successfully made backupns and restores from backup disk images using custom boot drives for CloneZilla, and the Paragon Drive Backup tool. I don't believe that CloneZilla will do inremental backups, and I'm not sure about the Paragon software as I stopped using Boot Camp about 1.5 years ago when I upgraded to my current MacBook Pro. Now with this system, I don't run native Windows, I only run it virtualized using Parallels Desktop and VMWare Fusion. For both of those, I get a full system backup with each MacOS backup I take, since the Windows File System is virtualized and stored entirely in files on my MacOS partition.

Backup to TImeCapsule including Boot Camp partition

I used Boot Camp to install Windows 7 Professional on my new MacBook Air, and have now got Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac working OK with a Windows Virtual Machine. But I am reluctant to remove the Boot Camp partition. Now I have got TIme Capsule/Time Machine working OK for automatic backups - but the BootCamp/Windows stuff is not being backed up. Can anyone tell me how to include the Boot Camp partition and all my Windows-based work in the automatic backup 'of the entire machine' (the reason I bought a Time Capsule) to Time Capsule? It seems that only the MAC side of the machine is being backed up hourly by Time Machine. Can't find anything in Knowledge Base or Help about this. Thanks!

Boot Camp partition won't mount in Disk Utility all of a sudden

I used to have a Windows 7 Boot Camp partition set-up and working perfectly.
Turned on my 2009 Mac Mini today and couldn't see it in the Finder. Opened Disk Utility, it was there, but grayed out. Right clicked and selected "Mount BOOTCAMP", got "mount failed"
Tried verifying and repairing disk, but no joy. So I removed the boot camp partition using Boot Camp Assistant and started again. Went fine, installed Windows 7 fine.
Booted back into Snow Leopard so I could unpair my bluetooth keyboard (I've found that I can only set-up the bluetooth keyboard in Windows 7 if I unpair it in OSX first). Again, Boot Camp partition doesn't show in the finder, and is grayed out in Disk Utility.
I googled this problem, and found a few people mentioning that NTFS drivers in OSX (e.g. MacFUSE, paragon etc) can cause issues because they conflict with Snow Leopard's own NTFS driver. I did have MacFUSE installed, so I removed it, but it didn't seem to change anything.
Any suggestions?

open system preferences, go to tuxera NTFS pref, second tab (Volumes)
make sure your windows 7 partition is selected from drop down menu then click "disable tuxera NTFS"
at this point i rebooted into windows, then rebooted back into snow leopard. my windows partition was once again mounted and visible in Finder
