Removing hiss/noise from amp simulator

Iv recently started to record using Garageband and just cant remove the hiss/noise from the amp simulator without compramising the sound i want for recording drastically. I use quite high gain as i play mainly heavy rock, iv tried turing the gain levels down but im not getting anywhere near the sound i would like to achieve. So do you know of any methods that i can give a go or will i just have to live with the results and compramise?
Many thanks in advance!
Scott

Cheers guys for the help, it went down a treat and now i practically have no hiss/noise on my tracks. Thanks very much for letting me get my music down as i want it, you were both very helpful!
Cheers!

Is garageband capable of removing the hissing noise from an mp3 file. If so, how do I go about doing this?

    Hi,
Is garageband capable of removing the hissing noise from an mp3 file. If so, how do I go about doing this?
Hang's suggestions about E.Q. are the option that can help in GB.
If you do this, try boosting the frequencies until you find the one(s) where the hiss lives. Then you can carefully cut/lower that frequency range to remove as much hiss as possible without hurting the part you want to keep.
If not, what other software is worth purchasing to acheive this?
If you want an app that specializes in Noise-Reduction, I suggest SoundSoap2.
It's not cheap, and I wouldn't buy it for cleaning up one mp3, but it has a very user-friendly interface, and does a good job of removing several kinds of noise.

  • Can Logic plug ins remove background noise from interview?

Can Logic plug ins remove background noise from interview?
A friend with an important interview recorded in noisy conditions has asked me to help remove background noise - never done this technically.
Is there a Logic or third party plug in that would could remove background noise from a spoken word interview? Have tried EQ which improves the sound slightly but not a solution.
Anyone with specialised knowledge of this sound editing operation?
    cheers

There are several 3rd party denoisers, they mostly work by first 'learning' the noise footprint of the audio, for which it is best to record a few seconds of silence (with an open mic).
These will all do a decent to excellent (it all depends on the source material) job:
    http://www.kvraudio.com/get/3199.html
    http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2104.html
    http://www.kvraudio.com/get/2791.html
    http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1182.html
    http://www.kvraudio.com/get/1029.html
    Addit:
Is it that background noise (traffic, talking etc) drowns out the words? Then you'd probably have more luck with (radical) eq-ing and/or notch filtering to find the most dominant frequency range of the speaker in relation to the background noise.
As an interviewer myself I will point out that even with a small disctaphone you need to have some awareness of how the microphone picks up things. As soon as you nead to lean towards whoever you're talking to, just to make sure you're audible, the dictaphone on the table is probably recording mainly ambient noise, the interview being part of that. This is especially a problem when interviewing in a busy public space.

Can I remove background noise from imovie '09 more than one clip at a time?

Ya you got it rightly I read a guide here http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/basic_audio_filtertutoria.html
so I am aware of basic things at least.Like you gave an example of Main Parameter in your previous reply similarly I feel if some where I can get these parameters in Filter what do they do that may help.

  • Removing background "noise" from an interview recording

    Hello!
I was wondering if it was possible on Soundtrack Pro to remove continuous background "noise" from a recorded interview? An example would be someone clicking a pen or a tapping his foot during the duration of the interview. Any advice would be extremely helpful.
    Thanks so much!
    Ted

It can, but what you are describing are not continuous, but points of sound. Continuous refers more to hums and vibrations, things like air conditioner noise or the sound of traffic. That said you can still give it a try. You can also try running the click and pop filter and see what you get.
Regarding these point sources I have better luck removing them with Adobe's Soundbooth. Their cascading frequency display allows you to draw irregular shapes around sounds like these and then extract them without disturbing the other sounds around them.
Take a look at the manual.
    Good luck

  • Removing Wind Noise from Audio in FCP

Is there a way to remove/filter wind noise from audio for use in FCP?

I'm not sure if you're if your sarcasm is targeted at me or Apple but just to clarify:
By rolling off the bottom end prior to using a Noise Print style NR technique you'll get a far better end result than just asking something like SoundSoap to decipher everything.
Wind noise is dynamic. NR tools like SoundSoap and other basic noise tools do not adequately address it. Since much of the problem with wind is in the very low frequency range simply rolling that stuff off cleans up the signal significantly and sometimes is all you need. Adding noise print style NR after the LF has been eliminated will produce a much better result.
Another technique for changing the perceived amount of interference from a dynamic source like wind is to copy a chunk of relatively clean ambient tone and pasting it over areas where there is noise but no dialogue. This step will obviously not help of a strong wind gust happens over the voice but it does improve the overall perceived quality of the recording. I usually don't offer this suggestion right off the bat because it's more of a surgical procedure which takes a bit of skill. What most people are looking to do is just clicking on the "remove noise" button.

  • Hissing noise from the speakers

    hi mates,
i hear a hissing sound from the internal speakers whenever the system tries to play sound through the internal speaker, be it a system sound or playing my music, or just by opening a application that may play music, i get this hissing sound before a system sound and this hissing noise continues for some time after the sounds are stopped playing, i get this hissing noise even when i change volume of the speakers. i dont get it through the headphones. the strange thing is i get this hissing noise even if i play a movie when my speakers are muted.
i went through this forum, some members have adviced to reset the pram, smc, reinstall the os, friends i tried all these but still i continue with this problem.
my macbook is brand new and just a week old.
i am really worried about this problem.

    hi sailor,
contacted apple phone support, unfortunately apple care number is not free in australia.
first time it took 17min and was not able to contact a technician coz credits in my mobile ran out.
second time it took 25min. i explained all the issues
told them i reset the pram, smc and reinstalled the OS and still i hear the hissing noise.
they replied that speakers may make a hissing noise if the macbook is on battery, but the noise should be very low and it should not be audible, if the noise is audible and loud, they suspect its a hardware failure, i got my case id and will be taking it to the nearest service center here, for them to have a look.
so if u have a macbook that is under warranty dont hesitate to contact them. i guess even refurbished macbooks bought in online store also have a 1yr warranty.

  • N95 hissing noise from ear-piece

Me too, I am suffering from this annoying noice when I am in call, it is not extremely digusting but I could not enjoy while using my N95 to make a call!!
    Dear Nokia,
I observed that the hissing noice from the ear-piece will be gone once the screen is in the screen saver mode, i.e. when the time & date horizontal bar is shown.
I tried to press a key to cause the screen back to standby mode, i.e. the main screen, then the noise comes back.
Wait for a while and let it back to screen saver mode, noise is gone again.
This might be something can be fixed with firmware upgrade (I hope my assumption is right) and I will be glad if the noise will disappear in V13 firmware (if any).
    Thanks.

I don't think that hissing is the earpiece. Mine makes funny noises too. Its the screen. Whenever the screen is lit it makes a noise. I think thats the power going through it. I had a motorola v3i and that did the same. Whenever the screen light went off like in standby mode it stopped humming. My N95 is the same. Its normal. Your computer or laptop screen hums when the screen is lit too. It just means its working and has power going through it.
Its not who i am underneath. But what i do that defines me.
You are here for a reason Superman.

  • Hissing noise from rear of mac pro

    Hi,
My new Mac Pro has a hissing noise at the back of the tower, where the power lead goes in. Is it a power supply problem? Anyone out there with a similar problem?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello, thanks for the responses!
x4...: Haven't tried using another account; my computer has only one registered currently (it's spanking new)
I did try logging into safe mode - while I received no indication that it was on safe mode, all sound functions appeared to be terminated when I logged on after long-pressing Shift. Panicked in a small way there, ha ha.
Bart..: Quitting email clients (mail, gmail, outlook on web) didn't help
And nope - no one else logged into computer.
All this said, the sound has stopped mysteriously right now. There's a good chance it'll start again though (it's done this before, with no connection to newly opened programmes or anything)
    Thanks, all!

  • Hiss noise from iPad2 speakers when launching an app that uses the speakers

A couple of months ago I bought an iPad2 Wi-Fi. It was working fine until yesterday that it started making a hiss noise every time an app that uses the speakers was launched, for example when the keyboard clicks sound is enabled it will make noise while typing (this is somehow annoying). Is this a known issue?
Is this a hardware defect or can it be fixed with a software upgrade?
    Thanks.

i have the same problem: ipad2 makes noise every time when plays sound (music, video, games, typing)
i'm sure that problem is hardware..
the noise exists only with speaker: if i connect headphones noise disappears

  • Removing Fan noise from lighting

First, thank you for your responses... Secondly, I know these problems should be thought of in advance and not to rely on post so I would appreciate help rather than criticism...
There is noise from the fans of the lights. A single person is speaking to camera in an inside room. I have reduced noise (set noise print –> reduce noise) in ST Pro, which got rid of fan noise (-45db), but distorts the voice so it sounds like he is speaking underwater. I added an EQ filter, but can't get this to sound very good...
I have Soundbooth CS5 and FCS. Thanks for any help.

STP noise reduction has a tendency to do that rather quickly. The only thing that helps is to reduce the amount of noise reduction which defeats much of the purpose.
First first adding some parametric eq to reduce the bad frequencies and then do a noise print and noise reduction, using less reduction, no lower than about 54dB.
You can also go into the spectrum analyzer and try to carve out the bad frequencies. This is more difficult than in Soundbooth's version, which is were I generally head off to for that sort of work.
Recently I've been trying Isotrope's RX noise reduction and find it miles ahead. Where I was using it I found I had to back up and reduce background in a lot more shots I'd previously just skipped over. It's one of those things that can be too good. It's spectrum analyzer is also quite good.
    Good luck

  • Remove "Pop Noise" from an old vinyl record?

    Hi guys,
How can I fix or let's say take out "pop noise" from an old vinyl record.
I have this old song that I need to use which was on an old record.
I saw a QT tutorial somewhere one time but can't remember where.
Can anyone help me with this please.
    Many thanks in advance,
    ZIA

Yes Zia this is a basic fundtion but it can be very frustrating if you try to do too much at one time.
That's my advice, once you get into the Anaylsis(not Actions) portion select just the points where you find the pops manually, no more than a few minutes at a time or else your computer will spend all day trying to highlight all the problems, and believe me you don't want the fix that comes from letting it go through the entire audio in 24hrs.
It's best to just try to fix section for section and listen to the results because sometimes the audio will come out sounding distorted and you have to go back and Edit>undo the fixes
    Good luck

  • Suggestions for removing video noise from converted Hi8 footage

I am about to start capturing Hi8 material into FCP 6 through a Sony D8 camcorder that does the analog to digital conversion. Even after cleaning the tape heads, I notice a very few lines of noise at the very bottom of the frames - like a dirty head. From the camcorder side everything looks normal - no noise. From the FCP side in VTR mode you can see the noise. I am not sure if this is an artifact from the analog to digital transfer or if the tape head is still dirty.
Question: assuming I cannot eliminate the noise on transfer/input, is there an easy way to apply a universal filter or horizontal "clip" function to imported video to remove the bottom few lines of video? I guess I could always overlay a black canvas covering only a few lines on the bottom, but maybe there is a more elegant solution?
Thanks in advance for any counsel!

What you are seeing are timing errors that are an artifact of analog recording and generally are outside the viewable area of a CRT TV (i.e. in the overscan zone). If you are setting these up for digital presentation - web or computer play only, these items may be seen.
You have a couple of options to deal with the tearing ..
    • Recapture the material using a Hi8 deck and a separate analog/DV converter with a full frame Time Base Corrector between the tape machine and the analog/DV converter. This will clean up the timing errors but is an expensive proposition.
    • Crop the image. This will leave a very slight letterbox effect and may not be noticeable unless you mix the material with non-cropped material.
    • Slightly enlarge the material so that the tearing falls outside of the 720x480 area. Expanding images much beyond 110% softens/pixelates the images noticeably and my not be acceptable.
    • Live with it.
    Good luck.
