Removing icon

previous post asked about removing program (application? in Apple speak)
I had an on line back up service for my PC and Mac till I got external hard drive.  I now use time Machine.
I still have an icon from the Carbonite back up service.  Its not in the dock but up top next to date/time, spotlight icons.  Not sure what this area is called.  I cannot drag to trash.  How do I remove?  I think I still have some Carbonite stuff installed since everyday I get a message up near the icon asking if I want to renew carbonite.  I don't !!.  i have been to file, find, help etc.  Also checkout OS X for Dummies.  Of no help.  Any ideas on how to find these files and remove any and all of them associated with Carbonite back up service?  Aside from little things like this Im loving my Mac lots.  Just in the learning phase.  Its interesting in windows there is a add/remove program function.  Anything similar in OS X??

Found this at the Carbonite website -
[Mac] Uninstalling Carbonite
Their pix of the preference pane for Carbonite also shows a checkbox to show a status indicator in the menubar; unchecking that should clear it.
If you no longer have that Carbonite prefs pane in System Preferences, it may have been removed when you removed some of Carbonite's files. You may need to re-install it in order to uninstall it properly.

How can I remove icons from the Finder sidebar?  Transferred info from my Mac Pro desktop computer (using target mode) and there were folder icons on the Mac Pro Finder sidebar that are now on the MacBook Finder sidebar, even though these folders do not exist on the MacBook.  Tried to drag them off, which is the usual way to get rid of folders that the user adds to the sidebar (as opposed to those that can be added via the Customize Toolbar dropdown menu) but was unsuccessful.  I then unchecked all of the Customize Toolbar menu items and the folder icons still remained.  What else can I do?

Did you hold the Command (Apple) key while dragging them off the sidebar? That usually makes them go *poof*.

  • Af:query component added field not removed when remove icon is clicked

I have an af:query component on a popup dialog. In advanced mode when I add a field, the new field appears in the searchRegion followed by a red X remove icon. If I subsequently click that remove icon, the query refreshes, the red icon is gone, but the newly added field still remains. The query component is linked to a standard VO query executable in the bindings. There is no custom processing of the value, model, queryListener or the queryOperationListener. In all other respects the query component works fine. The only problem is a newly added field not being removed when the remove icon is clicked. Here's how the component is setup (an added wrinkle is that the query component is hosted in a Declarative Component, so that makes this code a little harder to decipher).
Does anyone know where I should start looking for this? Hopefully I don't have to implement my own queryOperationListener.

  • Remove icons on Awesome 3 statusbar?

If you're using the 3.1-rc1 version or git then I think that this isn't possible because the code creating the tasklist object
    tmp_tasklist = awful.widget.tasklist.new( some_function )
creates the tasklist with icons and a label and you can't pass it a parameter to tell it what you want. It would be pretty easy to change it but I didn't get to do it yet. If you want to change it you'd have to change the code in /usr/share/awesome/lib/awful/widget.lua and in there the function tasklist.new(...) (if your awesome installation is installed to /usr).

  • Why can't I remove icons from desktop

Why can't I remove or relocate icons on the desktop. When I attempt to do so a circle with a slash thru it appears and it snaps back to it's original position. I also can not remove icons from the trash to the desktop for the same reason.

This may fix it. Open Terminal in Utilities and Copy/Paste -- don't attempt to type this in. This will set the correct Permissions on your Home Folder. (Disk Utility Permissions Repair won't touch these.)
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
    Then hit return.
If you've never used the sudo command before, you will get a warning and then be prompted to enter your admin password, which you won't see on the screen as you type it in.
Wait until you get a new $ sign prompt and then close the window.

  • Remove icons from right end of menu bar

On the Apple site I saw this procedure to remove icons from the right end of the menu bar : To rearrange the menu bar icons on the right end of the menu bar, hold down the Command key while dragging the icons. To remove them, hold down the Command key and drag them out of the menu bar.
It does not work with 10.6.8. As soon as I approach an icon it opens a menu wether I use the right or left hand side of the mouse. I cannot simply drag, as suggested.
    Any other suggestion?
    Thank you in advance

Some can't be moved or removed.
Check their respective System Preference, perhaps there is a option there to remove it from the menu bar.

  • Disabled remove icon of collaboators in Auction Template

    Hi Sourcing Guru!
I duplicated an Auction Template and tried to remove some collaborators from it.
However, remove icon for each of them is disabled. Therefore, I could not remove them.
Do you know why remove icon was disabled? And How do I remove some of collaborators from Auction Template ?
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Vikram,
    We are using release 5.1.10.
I understand that the new Auction Template reflects the change.
But this is not what I want to do.
My original question is that is  if we can enable remove icon for collaborators when I duplicated the existing template.
Obviously the duplicated one inherited collaborator attribute from the existing one. And it has disabled remove icon too.
The reason we tried to do instead of creating new one is that the existing template already includes all necessary information. Therefore, we do not want to lose them except collaborators.
Is there any way we can do this?
    Thanks a lot.

  • T60p USB removal icon won't stay

2613-ETU WXP-SP2 and all Windows Updates plus all System Updates except those recent ones that only exist to handle new ThinkPad models.
When I plug in a USB drive, I no longer get a removal icon in the tray.  I have created a shortcut on my desktop that calls up the removal dialog, but that’s not as convenient as the tray icon that pops up a list for removal.  Using the dialog to actually remove a USB device then causes the icon to appear in the tray, but it does not appear again after the next boot.
Do you know how to force that icon to always appear in the tray?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

TSR: Thank you.  Your suggestion of removing the USB entries in Device Manager worked completely.  This also solved another problem that I didn' realize was related: The disappearance of the Access Connections icon in the tray.  You were also correct that the fact that my HDD is a USB device did not create a problem for rebooting after the USB entries were removed.  Specifically, in Device Manager, under "Universal Serial Bus controllers", I removed the 1st 5 entries that looked like this:
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universoal Host Controller - XXXX    (where XXXX varies).
I removed those USB entries in Device Manager and doing that removed the rest of the entries.  When I was done, there were NO entries for USB even though I only deleted 5 of them.  Then I restarted and there were 5 sets of messages indicating "Found new hardware".  Now I have BOTH my USB Removal icon AND my Access Connections icon in the tray.  No need to uninstall and reinstall AC.

  • How can i remove icons from toolbar

what is best way to remove icons from tool bar?

On any mac application you should be able to right click (or control-click) on the toolbar and select Customize Toolbar... This will enable you to drag icons off the toolbar or onto the toolbar.
If you are referring to the Menu bar icons (in the upper right of the screen) then just press Command and then click and drag the icons off the menu bar to remove them.

  • Can't remove icons from the dock.

I can't seem to remove the app icons from my dock. Usually i would just click the icon and drag it away or even right click it and have it removed from the dock. Now if I try to drag it out of the dock it doesnt move and when i right click it my only options are to ---Open at login/show in finder or open---. I ran disk utility, relaunched my dock, restarted my computer and shut it down yet the problem still persists. I was hopoing someone out there had an answer to this problem. I will call apple tomorrow morning if it wont go away.
I dont know if this help but I just installed CS4 on my computer I i noticed the problem after it was installed.

  • How can I remove icons from the menu bar?

Help tells me to hold down the command key and drag the icon off the bar. But all that happens is that a dropdown menu appears which lists various actions which can be performed by the application. None of the actions listed include deleting the icon. When I try to drag the icon (still holding the command key down) it does not move at all.
    I am running OS X 10.7.4.

Do you mean the screen's menubar or the Finder's toolbar? Would you take a screen snapshot of what you are trying to remove? Some menubar icons are generated by the application and cannot be dragged out. Instead you have to quit the application that installs the item. I suspect this applies in your case.

  • How can I remove icons from the desktop on my iPad Mini?

I understand that there are apps on my iPad that I cannot delete, but is there a way of removing an icon from the desktop?

Remove, but not uninstall from the device?  Where would they go if you did that?
Once you delete an App it gets removed form the homescreen, and deleted from the iPad.
There is no "Less used Apps" area or anything like that.
Everything you have, and you can access, is on the home screen. There is no other place to access Apps.
