Removing intense light reflection on a B&W portrait image

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me.
I have a B&W image of a very closely cropped man's face.  The image is fine apart from a very intense light reflection on one side of his forehead which I would like to remove.  I have tried cloning and also burning but both look like obvious manipulation of the image.  I think the best I am going to achieve is to tone it down slightly.  I also have a slight light reflection on the end of his nose but the burn tool worked perfectly for this.
Does anyone have any ideas on what I could do about the light reflection on the forehead please?
BTW, I am using PSE6 with Windows.
Cheers
Sue

All I can say Terri is "WOW".
Thank you so much for making such an amazing effort and also giving step by step instructions on how to do it.  This will be incredibly helpful to me with this image and many more as I can apply the principle of what you've said in so many other ways.
I didn't realise until I signed onto the Adobe forum again today how detailed your answer was, as the email notification I got on Saturday did not show anywhere near the content of your posting which seems a little strange to me.  Oh well.
Your knowledge of PSE is clearly way beyond mine and I may not be able to follow your instructions exactly but I will certainly give it a go.  Have only been using PSE6 for 9 weeks as part of my university assignment in digital photography.  I've always loved photography but have never, before 9 weeks ago, used a digital darkroom before. Must admit, I am loving it as you really can improve images so much.
I have asked Mark Sand in my previous posting to let me know how to download the images you and him have saved to pixentral.com as currently I don't seem to be able to do this.
Thanks also for saying you like the picture.  Its always nice to know someone else likes your images.
Thanks again
Sue

  • Lights reflecting in glasses.

Hi there.  Is there any way of getting rid of flood lights reflecting off of someone's glasses?  I have interviewed someone who wears glasses and now that I can't redo the interview, I'm faced with trying to come up with an answer to this reflection problem.  Is there any kind of "photo shop" button in iMovie or something I can use in iMovie that can help minimize flood light glare on glasses?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hi
No - that's why one must be very observant when recording. And during recording one can use a polariod filter on the lens to minimise this effect but to be repaired in after hand is only for pro's with FinalCut Pro and Motion and other elaborative tools - still far far from easy to deal with.
To fix glases one need a PhotoShop like tool and key-framing each frame for movements so that the correcting filter follow exactly - else it will be very disturbing - much more than the reflexes in first hand.
Most common way to minimiseing this problem is to
    • use cut-aways - replace picture with any other relevant to the story while keeping audio continuing.

No. Not without access to a computer running iTunes. You do want to use your own computer so that you can restore from your backup and sync your own content back from iTunes.

  • Removing 3D Dock Reflection and/or Changing 2D Dock Background Color

Has anyone figured out a way to do either (or both) of the following:
-remove reflections from the 3D dock
-adjust the dark gray color of the 2D dock
? This is the last step I need to make the Dock visually tolerable for me. It would seem that both are not possible, but perhaps there's a defaults write to make these changes somewhere?

Go to MacOSXHints and do a search on "Leopard Dock"--you'll find lots of ideas for changing things in the Dock. There's even a discussion of using the Tiger Dock. I don't think I would try that....the 2D appearance has actually begun to grow on me, and Rainer Brockerhoff's Quay will give you the hierarchical folder menus.

  • Best way to remove fluorescent lighting tint

I need to color correct shots that were taped under fluorescent lighting. The ugly kind!
Looking for tips to remove the ulgy green tint while warming up skin tone.
    Thanks in advance. Be well.

I've already gotten into a fight with the producer
for giving me such bad footage, but aside from
    quiting... whatelse can be done?
exactly what you're doing and then some. the three-way auto white capabilities are quite good and it'll provide a base to start from. do that first and then reapply the three way and mess around with luma, black, chroma levels. you may find after auto-white that all you need is a simple hue shift which the regular color corrector does with great aplomp.
once you get things to where you think you like them, duplicate the sequence and find a scene you like the best. place a marker. other scenes in the same location with the same fluorescent lighting, place more markers - i'll tell you why in a second - and then apply another three-filter to use the match hue functions and that may dial you in even closer. another tool great for this is G Super Levels from graeme nattress in his filter set one.
when i match cameras for live shows, i have the benefit of routers to toggle the imagery through my monitors and scopes. no router exists in fcp but if you learn the keyboard shortcuts for navigating to and from markers, you can watch the waveforms while you toggle between scenes which will tell you were to surgically perform more correction.
document your time and submit a huge invoice to this producer for providing you with this crap. you can't perform miracles without getting paid!
    good luck, post back.
if you need further help, you can email me offlist with some problem stills and i'll see what i can do.

  • Removing Florescent Light Noise "Hum" from Audio Tracks using FCEHD

I have some clips taken under florescent lighting where the hum was discernable even during the sound check. (I was using external Electro Voice hypercardiod XLR mikes plugged into my Sony DCRVX2100, powered through a surge protector, monitoring the audio with Bose QC2 headphones). Using the same camera, cables, and mikes under incandescent lighting that day was fine - no hum.
Attempting to filter out the hum using the FCE Hum filter wasn't dramatically effective, even with repeated tests establishing that using a frequency of 60 hz, a Q of 40, a gain of -48, and the 1st and 3rd harmonics provided the most benefit.
Additionally I tried again with the FCE 31 band EQ filter, anticipating that the 50 hz and 60 hz filters would provide very specific improvements. Also tried were the LowPass Filter and the 3 band EQ.
I'd like to clean up the otherwise fine audio - any suggestions? I am considering buying a filtered power conditioner as I know that some of the problem can be "dirty" electricity resulting from the ballast of the florescent lighting.
Also, I noted that the numeric values shown for the gain using the FCE 31 band EQ filter oftentimes lagged behind the setting of the slider: returning the slider to the middle "0" position frequently didn't change the previous value of the gain shown. Is this another indication that I should just upgrade from my PowerBook G4 with 2 Gig of RAM?
    Thanks!
    James Mackay

    Hello Jim,
And welcome to the Final Cut Express forum.
You are correct that the ballast generates the hum. Power conditioning is probably not going to reduce or eliminate it, because the old ballasts are magnetic. The only way I found to eliminate fluorescent noise at the source is to replace the ballast with an electronic one or replace the entire fixture with a T8 unit (they use electronic ballasts).
Removing that hum probably can't be done in FCE. Sound Soap can probably do it however, with it's ability to +learn noise+ and then remove that specific audio. The regular Sound Soap works as a plugin for Final Cut, which enables you to apply it within FCE.
At present there is also an 'SE' version available at 50% off however it only works in standalone mode, which means you would have to export the audio track from FCE, clean it and then re-import back into FCE.

  • HT3717 How do I remove a bullet that is appearing next to an image?  Is this a bug?

I am using Keynote 6.1 and I am getting a bullet point to the left of my images.  It only appears in presentation mode, not edit.
With the new formatting tools, there is no "bullet" option if you are on an image, which suggests that it is a bug.  However, if there is a clever workaround, I would love to see it.

Login to your account on iTunes
you can remove all five and then authorize the one you want.

  • Reflections on objects other than imported images

I just can't seem to add a reflection to any object other than an imported image (ie. text, boxes, circles all don't have the "reflection" feature enabled in the graphics page of the inspector).
    Am I doing something wrong?

You're not doing anything wrong -- for whatever reason, Keynote can only apply reflections to imported images, and not native objects or text. Fortunately, there is a workaround for this, the Preview Passthru method developed by forum luminary Ken Drake. Essentially, if you copy an object or text, then open the app Preview and select "New from Clipboard" in the File menu and save the resulting image, the saved file can be imported into Keynote and will be treated just like any other imported image. Of course, it will no longer be a Keynote object, so it won't be editable in that fashion, but it can be adjusted like an image, and have a reflection applied to it.
Do note that you may have to crop the image in Preview in order to get the reflection effect that you want.

  • Why does removing an anchor point from this line reshape the image?

    Hi,
I tried removing an anchor point from a semi-circle, but removing the anchor point reshapes the image.
    Video of it here:
Anyone know how I can correct it? The semi-circle is a portion of a circle that remained after I had removed a portion, so reshaping it by moving the remaining anchor point will not do, as it will not create that perfect semi-circle.

Can you first change to outline view then select the anchor point in question with the direct selection tool and post a screenshot of the outcome (with guides showing). Just want to see if there is a handle point attached and then this may be the reason why. It may be worth using the delete anchor point tool instead of the eraser.

In a market economy people get paid for their work via companies who charge for their products.  Adobe employs people who are working all the time, and therefore chooses to require pay-for upgrades periodically to generate more revenue.  The reason they switched to the cloud was to even out their revenue stream even more.  You can pay US$10/month and get the current versions of LR and PS as long as you keep paying.
Just because many people are upset when they realize they'll have to spend more money for software because they got a new camera doesn't make the producer of the software bad or mean that the feelings are justified and it's someone else's fault.
What should happen differently: that society be communist and all software be produced by and doled out from the government so political decisions govern what is available and who gets it, or a more socialist society where retired workers get more things for free or at reduced cost due to they're not working anymore, or what is your specific idea for what should be changed?
As far as your crumbs and loaf analogy, Adobe is a publically-traded, for-profit company.  If people are getting rich from gouging seniors then you should have purchased stock a long time ago and get a piece of those supposedly extraordinary profits as dividends for yourself and you can vote in the shareholder meetings to give more software to whatever groups you deem more worthy.  And if you're across a border and things are much more expensive due to government policies or taxes and if you're a citizen of that society and organize and get people to vote differently and change the system.
If you're coming here for solutions about how work with new camera raws in older software keep your question to that.  If you're wanting people to agree that you're justified in being upset by complaining that Adobe is bad then you've probably come to the wrong place.

  • How to remove flickering in a animation done by loading different image files

    Hello Everyone,
I have done a character animation by loading multiple images one after another at runtime or dynamically by accessing files from there path directly.
But the problem I am facing is, I am getting a white bg or delay when the images change, it kind of feels like the images are flickering. How can I get rid of this flicker.
    Thank you.
    Iceheros

When loading images from a server during runtime you can never be sure that there will be no delay.
What you could do is write a function, that checks with a progress Event how much of the next picture is loaded and base the percentage of the current pictures alpha channel on this figure.
Say the progressEvent from your Loader returns a number like 0.1....1.0 (10%...100% of the next picture are loaded)
    Then in an eneterframe you could use that number to modify the current Pictures alpha (like img.alpha = 1.0- progress);
A clear disadvantage is, that the tweens will always be different (depending on picture size/network traffic)

  • Remove the read button in the centre of the image

    Hello,
Excuse me for my English, French English translation by Bing.
    Captivate 5.5
    I created a project:
Reading bar: I have edited the colours.
Project > preferences: not AutoPlay but I put an image.
    Beginning and end > Stop.
When you run the project, there is a button "read" in the center of the image. Is it possible to delete or hide this button and start reading only the button of the PlayBar?
If necessary I would put screenshots
    Thank you for your answers.

Hmmm, looks like I misunderstood the request then. Sorry.
I thought they wanted a solution where no button was visible on the slide and the user would just click the main Play button on the playbar.
    My bad... Rick
