Removing items from overhead menu bar.

i recently downloaded intego security which is a one year subscription. when the subscription expired, it only said renew subscription. there was no option to uninstall. so i used cleanmymac, which that failed, followed by appcleaner, which managed to delete the files. the intego symbol is still there next to the battery percentage and bluetooth etc. I really want it gone. Is there any other ways to uninstall applications while removing EVERY file related to it?
thank you,
solidmachine

First, if you want to clean your Mac, get rid of "Clean My Mac" and "AppCleaner."
Remove the Intego product by following the instructions on this page:

Usually the apps belonging to these icons have an option that allows you to hide the Menu Bar icon by allowing them to run as an app in the dock. However, certain applications like Caffeine must show their icons as otherwise you wouldn't be able to access them.
For example, Dropbox doesn't allow you to remove its menu bar icon:

    Hi
Hold down the cmd key and drag it off. This should
    work for most menubar icons.

You appear to be first to mention the Yahoo menu item of those I've seen here, and there are some different versions of the '''Yahoo Toolbar''' maybe you have a different extension but this is how it goes for the Toolbar. You might check for another extension that has "Yahoo" in the name and in the Control Panel.

  • Removing items from navigation menu

Why is it that I can remove almost any items from the navigator window in JDeveloper 9.0.3 and I can't remove any item from the navigator window in JDeveloper 10.1.2. Is really a problem because I have to delete the items in order to remove them from the navigator window.

Did you try pressing the red "X" at the top of the application navigator?
Can you give an example of something you can't remove from the navigator?

  • Removing Items from context menu

A while ago I had installed a trial version of VMWare Fusion, which I have since removed from my computer.
One change that VMWare fusion does is to add "double entries" to the "open with" menu when ctrl-clicking on a file.
    Here's an example:
    http://i42.tinypic.com/2rn77zn.jpg
If I accidentally click one of those entries that says (Mac - Boot Camp Partition.app) it tries to open the now non-existent Fusion.
Is there a .plist file somewhere which I can edit to remove these entries from the menu? It's messy, and kind of a pain.
    Thanks

It sounds like you need to rebuild the "launch services database":

  • How to remove icons from the menu bar

    Hi,
I've read all the other ideas on how to remove or re-arange them ( CMD - drag off etc ), well none of this works for me !!

Usually the apps belonging to these icons have an option that allows you to hide the Menu Bar icon by allowing them to run as an app in the dock. However, certain applications like Caffeine must show their icons as otherwise you wouldn't be able to access them.

  • How can I remove icons from the menu bar?

Help tells me to hold down the command key and drag the icon off the bar. But all that happens is that a dropdown menu appears which lists various actions which can be performed by the application. None of the actions listed include deleting the icon. When I try to drag the icon (still holding the command key down) it does not move at all.
    I am running OS X 10.7.4.

Do you mean the screen's menubar or the Finder's toolbar? Would you take a screen snapshot of what you are trying to remove? Some menubar icons are generated by the application and cannot be dragged out. Instead you have to quit the application that installs the item. I suspect this applies in your case.

  • Help, I cant create an external hyperlink from my menu bar?

Thank you for your response! I have not tried that and now considering a faster way around which is more in line with the responder below using a text box or removing the item from my menu bar and using the "B" symbol for Blog elswhere on the page. All I am trying to do is in my menu bar link my blog but like you mentioned I would have to make a manual bar and not sure how to do that since I am new to Muse. Thanks for the help!

  • How to show items in the menu bar

I'd like to know how to add and/or delete items from the menu bar.

Yes....there is a menu bar at the top of the screen in which sit icons of things like volume, the date, the language, etc. When there are many of them, sometimes you can't see them all. I want to rearrange the order of some of them so that I can always see my Dropbox icon for example. If Apple kept iDisk (!!!!) that worked so well, I wouldn't be worrying about Dropbox.

  • Remove item from menu bar.

    To keep this short...
Installed Norton Personal Firewall. Turns out it is not compatable with Intel Macs. I uninstalled Norton, removed it from the start-up items, but I cannot find a way to remove the Norton icon from the menu bar. Apple + drag does not work.
    Any suggestions?

Nothing in login and I went to the link and downloaded what I thought would be the appropriate un-installer. When I opened the un-installer it opened in Text Edit and looked something like a bunch of crazy symbols.
I used the un-installer that came with disk and after I hit un-install, I got a message that just read "error" over and over, but the icon in the menu bar was gone. However, the next time that I started the MacBook I was greeted with a prompt that I installed software that could pose a security risk and that I should re-start the computer. I did eventually re-start and the icon is now back in the menu bar which I believe would indicate the Norton is still on my MacBook...somewhere.....what the heck!?

    '''Hello peacefultrev,'''
I believe from your question you wish to remove the window title-bar, while keeping the menu bar available.
I have two solutions for you to try. One requires no plugin and the other requires the installation of a plugin.
    '''No plugin option:'''
This option hides the the window title while also removing the menu bar. The menu bar can then be reactivated and viewed simply by pressing "Alt" which shows the menu bar until you click away from it. To do this:
    # Right click on the tab bar and disable "Menu Bar".
    # Whenever you which to use the menu bar, tap "Alt" on your keyboard.
    # When you click away from the menu bar the windows title will disappear until you tap "Alt" again.
    '''Plugin Option:'''
You can download this plugin called [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-caption-titlebar-plus-sma/ Hide Caption Titlebar Plus] which can be customized to suit your needs. I cannot provide support on this plugin as I have not used it myself.
I hope one of these solutions will suit your needs.
