Removing Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04

I'm having problems removing this from my pc. I tried using the Add/Remove Programs and get an error message. Basically it ells me that "The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\etc.......... is not a valid installation package for the product Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_04 etc.......... etc........
However when I do a browse to that location I do see the .msi package it is looking for. I tried to reinstall the package but cannot because it tells me I already have a version installed. How can I remove this? I'm willing to go as far as doing it manually. Thanks.
Allen

The security enhancements are documented at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ReleaseNotes.html#150_06
Changes in 1.5.0_06
Prior to this update [1.5.0_06], an applet or [Java Web Start] application could specify the version of the JRE on which it would run. This has changed. All applets are executed with the latest JRE version. Unsigned Java Web Start applications that specify a version other than the latest trigger a warning, requiring explicit user permission before the application will run. Signed Java Web start applications are not affected.
In other words, only Applets and unsigned Java Web Start applications are affected by the security enhancements. Standalone applications can select any JRE they want, even if it is the outdated 1.4.2_13.

  • How Do I RemovE Java Runtime Environment?

I have just updated software on my iMac. The software update included an update to Java.
Since updating, I am unable to open Limewire P2P programme. I have reinstalled Limewire several times but still not working.
Tech support at Limewire have advised me to uninstall Java Runtime Environment and reinstall.
Can anyone advise how to do this please?
    thanks

The newest version of Limewire, version 5, will only run on a Core 2 Duo, with Java SE 6 for Mac installed. Java SE 6 is 64 bit, hence the need for a C2D. Java SE 6 is not activated by default when it is installed.
It can be activated with the Java Preferences app in Apps/Utlities, in the General pane. Drag Java SE 6 to the top of the 2 lists to make it active. I had to restart and then install Limewire 5 before I could get it to work.

Many of these strange browser problems can be solved by launching the applet using webstart. Is there any reason this applet has to be embedded in a browser window?

  • "The Java Runtime Environment cannot be loaded..." Error Message

After downloading and installing the Java Plug-In (j2re-1_3_1_01a-win.exe) I return to the Plug-In page (the one with the steaming coffee cup) and get the following error message: "The Jave Runtime Environment cannot be loaded from <4d\bin\hotspot\jvm.dll>"
The odd characters before the \bin change every time I leave and then return to the page. Reloading the page gives the same set of odd characters. Has anyone seen this and if so how do I get this thing to work? I tried downloading Beta 3 of the 1.4 version of the plg-in. When visiting the page with the steaming coffee cup after installing this version, IE (6.0.2600) disappears. The browser just closes without giving error messages or anything else. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hello Phinnegan et all,
the problem is NOT solved in JRE 1.4.2_04 (build 05b)... the only solution that worked for me (too) was the one suggested by the mighty capaloco and that I enclose here together with your answer slightly below.
Hope this confirmation will be of some help and thanks to capaloco for the effective solution.

It worked for me. It seems that you just need to delete the file deployment.properties.
I found it under: Program Data\Sun\Java\Deployment
    The REAL (simple) solution

As the poster jessh indicated above, the bug is logged and workaround provided at the JDC site.
Having gone there and read the sun response, here is the problem and simple solution.
The problem is that if you ever had 1.3.1_xx version of the JRE loaded, then loaded a 1.4.2_xx version, some registry keys were removed, and that's why you're getting the "cannot load runtime environment" error.
Rather than manually adding registry keys for those of you who are uncomfortable with that, you just need to re-install the 1.3.1_10 version of hte JRE. If you need to have both the 1.4.2 version and 1.3.1 version available, you have to install the 1.3.1 version LAST so it will recreate the registry keys removed by thte 1.4.2 installation.
This problem is apparently fixed by sun in the 1.4.2_4 version of the JRE (the installation simply re-creates the registry entries that are removed), which is not released yet (as far as I know).
Hope this helps, and thanks to jessh who pointed me to this solution.

  • A pop up window saying Java Runtime Environment keeps coming up. How do I get rid of it?

How do i get rid of a pop up window that asks me to run Java Runtime Environment?

If you're referring to a Mac and not an iPad, then most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

  • Error HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Javasoft\Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_0

I have an ongoing frustrating problem. Java has stopped working on my pc. When I go to the java icon and open I get error "The system cannot find the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Javasoft\Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_06" If I try to uninstall update 6 from xp service pack 2 add and remove programs I get the error "error applying transforms. Verify that the spedcified transform paths are valid" If I try to remove update 1, it errors "You already have this version of the Jre installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove programs utility before reinstalling". If I hit the OK button, I get "Fatal error during installation" (even though I am trying to uninstall)
I am very frustrated as I cannot find anything on the website to assist, and my son is going spare not being able to play runescape! Please Help

As a possible workaround try offline installation which can be from:
    http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
At the same time, if the above workaround fails the exercise is little complex. If you have tried downloading update 1.5.0_xx, then likely a .msi file is saved in the location as mentioned below:
    Possible path:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.5.0_xx
Note: This is irrespective of installation failure or success. Replace xx with the correct version you are trying to install
There is also a bug filed where you can submit useful information to help finding regular solution to this issue:

  • Does the java 1.4.2 sdk install the Java Runtime Environment twice?

I just installed this and I noticed that it appears I have two copies of the JRE one in C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2 and one in C:\j2sdk1.4.2\jre\
The contents of both folders look identical to me. Did the SDK install two copies? Did one copy come with Windows XP or Service Pack 1? In Add/Remove Programs there is one entry for the Java Runtime Environment and one for the SDK. I'd like to get rid of one of the copies of the JRE if possible. Thanks,
    Ollie

The copy in Program Files is likely the Java plug-in used with your web browser. I only have 1.3.1 installed so I can't positively confirm your 1.4 installation. Under Control Panels, you should have a Java Plug-in control.

I am wondering why I got three note pads on my desktop telling me about Java Runtime Environment Error.
Is this how Java Runtime Environment Error lets you know there is a problem. When a window pops up saying there is a Java Runtime Environment Error problem I normally send it.
Nothing every happens when I send Java Runtime Environment Error. How can this problem be fixed.
And why am getting Java Runtime Environment Error on my desktop. The second & third Java Runtime Environment Error cant fit in this post because of Maximum allowed is 7500 only. And I had to remove the bootom part of the first Java Runtime Environment Error just to make it fit.

Yes - I followed the link and installed the Oracle version of Java, version 8, and the test page confirms that I have the current version running.

    Hi
I have been trying to install VDI core on Linux(Centos - 5.5 64 Bit) but unable to do so because of the error Common agent container is not installed on this system. I have checked and found that the cacao 2.2 is installed on the server but the service is unable to start during the OS boot up. I have tried all the possible ways to re-install but got no luck.

For windows installations you are not in need to install Java prior to installing Oracle , remove all Java installed , clean registry and environment variables , restart machine then start reinstallation

    1. Try re installing JRE.
    2. Check in the internet explorer --> Tool-->Options
there whether the browser is JVm enabled it should be in that list also.
    3. Then in the Registry ie; regedit
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE ---- > Software ----> JAVASOFT---> Java Runtime Environment---> Click on it
then on right hand side you will see Current Version.
in which the value should be 1.4
