Removing mailbox databases

Hello!
I'm getting this warning when removing a mailbox database in Exchnage 2013 SP1:
I've never had it in Exchange 2013 (NOT SP1)... How can I now remove a "monitoring mailbox object of database ..." from my AD?
Thank you in advance,
Michael

Hi
Here you go
Failed to remove monitoring mailbox object of database “database_name”. Exception: Active directory operation failed on “server_name”. This error is not retrievable. Additional information: Access is
denied. Active directory response: 000000005: SecErr: DSID-031520B2, problem 4003 (INSUFF_ACCESS_RIGHTS), data 0.
In this case, the database was removed an Active Directory [AD] error (with a not very useful description) complaining about insufficient permissions is thrown. If you run:
Get-Mailbox -Monitoring
You will most likely see a warning regarding a corrupted Health Mailbox:
WARNING: The object “domain_name”/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/Monitoring Mailboxes/”Health_Mailbox_GUID” has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:
WARNING: Database is mandatory or UserMailbox.
Because Exchange 2013 did not have sufficient permissions to the domainname/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/Monitoring Mailboxes Organizational Unit [OU], it could not delete the AD objects related to the database’s health mailboxes. In
this case, the database attribute is null because the database the health mailbox references no longer exists.
To fix this issue, simply delete the health mailboxes referenced by the error(s) from that OU by using Active Directory Users and Computers. After removing these, the warning should be gone.
Deleting health mailboxes is a low risk procedure because they will be automatically re-created by the Microsoft Exchange Health Manager service on the Exchange 2013 server hosting the database when this service is restarted

  • Remove mailbox database copy from DAG

    Hi There,
We would like to remove the mailbox database copy from our exchange server as we are lack of the space on our fixed vhd and we hope to be able to free about 100GB from the passive database copies as we have deployed DAG. is there any guidelines or procedures
to safely remove the database copies? currently, we have 4 mailbox servers, HQMB01, HQMB02, SSMB01, and SSMB02. HQMB01 and HQMB02 is already part of DAG members by itself. however, on ssmb01 and ssmb02, we also add in HQMB01 and HQMB02 as the DAG member,
thus they can fail over to HQMB01 or HQMB02 if their server have issue. in this situation, SSMB01 and SSMB02 passive copies is also inside our HQMB01 and HQMB02. As the our HQMB01 and HQMB02 is lack of the disk space and we would like to remove SSMB01
and SSMB02 from the DAG, thus we could remove the passive database copies. The following is the picture of the activation preference for all servers. what is the procedures and the guidelines to remove mailbox database copy and also remove the server from
the DAG members? we are quite confuse and worry that after we are removing wrongly and cause the active database to lost as we understand that there is replication happening between them. as we have 4 mailbox servers from which server we should perform
the task? Wish to get some advises from the exchange guru from this forum. we are on exchange server 2010 sp1 and windows server 2008 R2.Thanks so much.

    Hi Exchange Guru,
thanks so much for the prompt response..i have few queries to ask following your guidelines above:
    1. from the show result above, I am still confuse which server that I should go to remove as this is involving 4 database copies. from what I understand from the truncation or replay lag times of SSDB01 and SSDB02, I can see that HQMB01 and HQMB02 are on
the third and fourth preference, which means that SSDB01 and SSDB02 will be able to failover to each of them when there is a failure and it cause the passive copies of both of SSDB01 and SSDB02 to be stored in the HQMB01 and HQMB02. what my purpose
is to remove both SSDB01 and SSDB02 passive copies in HQMB01 and HQMB02. in this case, should I login to SSDB01 or SSDB02 mailbox servers to perform the removal with your guidelines above?
    2. is the command as below:
    Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity SSDB01\HQMB01 -Confirm:$False
    Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity SSDB01HQMB02 -Confirm:$False
    Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity SSDB02\HQMB01 -Confirm:$False
    Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity SSDB02\HQMB02 -Confirm:$False
will this cause the risk either of my HQDB01, HQDB02, SSDB01, and SSDB02 active copies accidentally  being removed? I am sorry that I am a bit naggy and always want a confirmation as this is very critical and I must be super careful.
    3. If after the removal successful, when is the best time to go to the drive where the passive copies stored and remove them so I can clear some space on  my disk? and is it just as simple by going to the drive and do a folder file deletion manually?
because I just worry when I delete the file and the server is still replicating between each other, which will cause even corruption to the active database.
    4. From point 3, you mention about when the server is empty. what do you mean by that? do you mean that when the passive copies are no more there? and what command that I used to check?
    5. From point 4, is removing the server from DAG the last step to be performed? yes, I want to remove them from DAG, thus will left only HQMB01 and HQMB02 as one DAG and SSMB01 and SSMB02 as one DAG.
Thank so so much for your patient and attention.

    Henry

  • Error While Removing Mailbox Databases

I'm trying to remove two extra Mailbox databases that we recently migrated users off of during consolidation. However, when I try and remove the DB's I get the following error message:

However, when I try and move or remove these mailboxes, I get an error from EMS stating that they cannot be found.
Any idea what I need to do here to resolve this so I can remove these DB's?
    Thanks!!

    Hi
    Suggestion 1:  verify mailboxes:
    1. In Exchange management shell, run these cmdlets:
    Set-ADServerSettings -ViewEntireForest  $True
    get-mailbox -database "DBname" –arbitration
    2. Please verify if arbitration mailbox shows. If yes, please move these mailboxes with this cmdlet:
    Get-Mailbox -Database "DBname" -Arbitration|New-MoveRequest -TargetDatabase "DB2Name"
Note: please replace DB2Name with the target database name.
    3. Wait for the complete of AD replication, after that, please try to remove database again.
Suggestion 2: If the database still cannot be removed and you have followed the instruction in error message, but nothing returned. It seems the database is empty. So I suggest we use ADSI Edit to remove the database object directly since it no
    longer contains any mailboxes.

  • Removing Mailbox DBs, while keeping all AD Exchange attributes intact?

So I have migrated my groupware platform from Exch2010sp1 to Google Apps (sorry, MS, but if you gave 365 away for free to 501c3's I would have considered it). I am using
Google's Google Apps Directory Sync (GADS)to populate GApps, and intend to maintain my AD infrastructure and add users that way via the Exchange Admin tools.
However, I don't need the Hub/Client Access/Mailbox DB role installed anymore.
Everything that I have found in looking to date is for the reverse (e.g. people with problems where they have managed to remove the Mailbox DB role but they still have the Exch AD attributes) of what I need. But in looking at EMC and the PS Remove-Mailbox-Database
cmd, everything seems to want to remove the Exch AD attributes. And, of course, just disconnecting the Mailbox DBs isn't feasible, as the DB still contains all my user mailboxes from pre-migration.
Is this even possible? Would it be something I could do via ADSIEdit? I'm certainly willing to go there, but probably not without some good expert guidance, as I feel like I could hose my schema pretty good by trying that on my own.
Much thanks in advance for any assistance.

As I understand, you want to uninstall the Exchange 2010 Hub/Client Access/Mailbox roles but keep the AD.
If you mean the specific Exchange attributes for my AD users, but get rid of the actual mailbox store data, then yes.
I appreciate the response, but those steps are exactly what I don't want to do, namely:
"On the Readiness Checks page, please view the status to determine if the organization and server role prerequisite checks
completed successfully. When the checks have completed successfully, click Uninstall to remove the specified server role(s) or the entire installation of Exchange 2010."
This will remove Exch from AD, as well as the attributes. I want to do 1/2 of this. Remove the Exchange mailboxes &
Exch server functionality, but keep the AD/LDAP attributes so my sync to Google Apps will continue to work based on the rules I've set.

  • Removing Pubilc folder and default mailbox database

I have two mailbox sever in our environment, a virtual EX2010 and physical EX server 2010. We had migrated from EX2003 to Virtual
EX2010 including Public folders. All the clients are using Outlook 2010 so we don’t need the public folders. All the mailbox have been moved to physical EX2010.
    I have used

I am not using Virtual Exchange and when I try to delete the default mailbox database I get below eroor msg.

Can anyone guide me how to resolve these issues so I can uninstall exchange roll.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just as what Amit suggested, if you want to remove the default public folder database for a mailbox database, you can clear the value of the msExchHomePublicMDB attribute.
Here is a related article for your reference.

  • Exchange 2010: Remove high available mailbox database error

    Hello everyone,
I have a two node DAG exchange 2010 and recently split one mailbox database into two databases.
Now when removing the original database I get the following error:
    Please provide specific details.
The following was done thus far:
    Deleted all softdeleted items
this is not the default mailbox database
Suspended the second mail server and removed it from mailbox, leaving now just one mail server attached to the mailbox database.
    Help

Try to check mailbox import request is there or no by this command. Get-MailboxImportRequest. If you can see any requests listed. Remove it by this command Get-MailboxImportRequest | Remove-MailboxImportRequest.

Here are the commands I executed to resolve this issue.
    1. Set-AdServerSettings -ViewEntireForest $True
    2. Get-MailboxExportRequest -Database "Database Name" | Remove-MailboxExportRequet
    3. Remove-MailboxDatabaseCopy -identity "Database Name"
Database was successfully removed after executing these commands.

  • I can't either mount for remove Exchange 2010 mailbox database file

Yesterday I proceeded with moving Exchange 2010 database file to a newly installed hard drive because my "C" drive was running out of space. After dismouting both the mailbox database and the public folder database, I used EMC's  "move
data path" wizard to move both the mailbox database and public folder database to "mailbox" folder in "D" drive.  The move was successful without an error, but when I opened "mailbox" folder in "D" drive, both
the database file and public folder database files weren't there.  All the other files were moved, but the mailbox database file was gone.
Luckily I manually copied entire mailbox folder to another folder in "D" drive.  So I manually copied mailbox database file (it is about 20GB) to "d:\mailbox".  When I try to mount, I received the following error message.

If the database was fine pre move I doubt it needs a repair, however if you want to validate do an eseutil /mh ReplaceWithYourDatabaseName.edb and post the results here
did you move the logs as well or are they still in same location
I have seen this before if everything is where its supposed to bea restart fixed it so I would recommend that you put the DB back into the  NEW D path and do a restart to see if that resolves the issue

  • Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication service was unable to process jobs in a mailbox database 1006.

    HI all,
I ran into a problem with one of the servers in my DAG.  Due to a backup failure, the log partition filled up and the Exchange database went offline on this particular server.  The DAG continued to function on the other server.  So this particular
DB01 had only some test accounts in it so I removed the database copy.  Unfortunately the removal must not have completed correctly.
After recovering the needed space in the partition, I tried to recopy the database and it failed.  So I deleted the entire database from the active server and it successfully removed it from the active server.  Now on both the servers the database
is not showing, however I'm receiving the error below which indicates to me that the service still thinks the database exists.  I am also getting event 4113 Database redundancy health check failed for the database copy as it shows there is only one copy
of the database (failed redundancy) but there should be zero copies.
This database no longer exists in AD as I have verified this with ADSI so it must have something on the exchange server that is still telling the service the database exists.
Can you point me to the location to clean this up?

    Hi
This error occurs because the MailboxReplicationService (MRS) currently caches Mailbox Database information past the lifetime of some databases.
Restarting the service will clear the cache.
Maybe it is the simplest way to solve it.
If it doesn’t work, you can try cmd to check it.
Get-MailboxDatabase : Can you find the database which you delete?
Remove-MailboxDatabase -Identity "MyDatabase": You can try to delete database if you can see the database.

  • Healthy copy of mailbox Database in DAG acting as a seeding source for another Healthy copy Database in DAG

    Overview of the architecture
We have Site (Primary & DR)
2 Database copies in primary site and 1 Database on the DR site (Primary site 2 copies one mounted and second healthy & on the DR site one healthy copy of Database)
Recently Due to Network Problem the DR copy got in to the easyncronous state and was removed from the DAG.
As company does not want the downtime we have followed the below steps to Restore Database at DR site.
1)Stopped the backup to Not trucate the log file
2)Took Full backup and in the restore mode we shipped the full backup to the DR site.
3)As the above process needs 2 days, manually copied the some Logs to the DR site (IN some drive as much possible to reduce seed time)
4)Added the mailbox database of the DR site back in the DAG as its seeds from the start, we manually suspend the process post the Database folder hierrachy  gets created
5)Added the EDB and logs files in the recently created folders
6)Resumed the Database seed, so only the remaining logs were copied and seeded from primary site to DR site, In some hours DR site databse became healhty with no copy queue and replay queue.
7)trucated the logs which synced using DAG
Now Dag has copies as initial setup but the since we followed the above process the primary site healthy copy is acting as the seed-source and logs not truncating for the database
When restarts the Replication services on the Primary site server with healthy the state becomes healthy but again after some time it becomes seed- source.
Wanted to know when DR site copy is in healthy state why its acting as a seed-source continueously
Need Experts advice in manage Database copies in healthy state...
    Thanks in Advance

    Hi,
Based on your description, sometimes the content index state of passive database copy in primary site is healthy, but sometimes the state is crawling.
You can use the following command to reseed the catalog only to check result.
Update-MailboxDatabaseCopy -Identity Database -SourceServer EX -CatalogOnly

  • Dedicated Archive mailbox databases generate excessive whitespace

Our company has several mailbox databases that are dedicated to arhive mailboxes.  I just joined the company a month ago and found one database that was about 500 GB with about 300 GB of whitespace!  So, I created a new DB and moved all the archive
mailboxes, and removed the original DB.  at the time there was minimal whitespace.  Today, the DB is in much the same condition.  what makes this so odd is that there are less that 30 mailboxes on database!  Further, it seems
as though these DBs are also generating way too many transaction logs and causing management to become concerned about drive space and DBs dismounting.   Bottom line:  how can I determine what is causing the excess whitespace to be generated?

    Hi,
I recommend you refer to the following article :
    Exchange 2010 whitespace reclamation
In addition, as Ed mentioned, you can monitor the available new mailbox space with the following command:
get-mailboxdatabase  -status | ft Name, AvailableNewMailboxSpace
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

  • Removing mailbox server from Exchange 2010 DAG - Node not fully cleaned up

    Hi,
We are in the process of decommissioning some old Exchange 2010 servers. I have just attempted to remove one of our mailbox servers and have received a number of errors, related to its removal from the DAG.
I have already removed the Public Folder replicas and all mailbox database copies. I then tried to evict the server from the DAG and received the following warning:
I then ran the command that was recommended, from another server and in an administrative command prompt:
I have looked in this log on both the server I ran the command on, a CAS server, and the mailbox server itself and can see no evidence of this error 2 that is listed here.
If I run the Powershell command to look at the DAG I cannot see it there any more. I am assuming that this error message might only be an issue if I was planning on re-using this server somewhere else in Exchange or perhaps adding this server to another
DAG. But I just want to decommission it.
Can anyone put my mind at rest as to whether this is a genuine concern or not. If not my next step is to uninstall Exchange 2010 from this server and turn it off.

    Hi Belinda,
    I get the following:
    [PS] C:\Windows\system32>Get-DatabaseAvailabilityGroup
    Name             Member Servers
    Operational Servers
    DAG01            {WSR-EX-01, WSR-EX-101, WSR21}
It doesn't look like that server is part of the DAG any more as far as I can see. I just can't explain that error message reported from the cluster command. As far as I can see the server is isolated. I already removed its database copies as a pre-requisite
before removing it from the DAG as per this guide:
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/Software/Server_Software/Email_Servers/Exchange/Q_27039933.html
I found a nice little script that gave reports on your Public Folder configuration and it highlighted that some of our folders were not being replicated properly across our mailbox servers. This helped me in removing these services from the server.
It is currently doing nothing at this time as far as Exchange Services are concerned.

  • Mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database

For one of our customers we are currently working on a prove of concept to implement on premise exchange servers. The problem mentioned below takes place on test servers.
Server names and mail domain names are changed to generic values.
On our on premise exchange environment we encounter the following problems when emailing to a specific email domain .
Email to the domain companyname.com is placed in to the Unreachable Domain queue with the following error:
Last Error: The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database
    Queue ID: SERVEREX01\Unreachable
Recipients:  [email protected];2;3;The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database;1;<No Home Database>
    Situation:
Customer uses a local Active Directory which contains all the user accounts and uses Office 365 / Exchange Online to provide these users with a mailbox. SSO between the local AD and O365 is provided by a third party identity provider.
Dirsync is used to sync all user information from the local AD to O365 AD. This also includes the SMTP addresses users have on the Office 365 mailbox. In the local AD this information is saved is the proxyaddress attribute field and synced
to O365. Office 365 uses the following mail domains for customer: companyname.com and companyname.onmicrosoft.com.
Customer wants to use local on premise exchange servers for specific locations and users and doesn’t want to implement a hybrid exchange environment. Therefore we installed an Exchange 2010 Edge server in the DMZ and an Exchange 2013 MBX
/ CAS server in the server network. The Exchange 2013 server is installed in the same Active Directory as the one mentioned above. This environment uses the mail domain @central.companyname.com. The email environment is configured to only accept email for
    this domain.
The email environment works fine. It can send and receive email internally and externally. There is only one issue. It’s impossible to send email from the on premise environment to office 365. The other way around (O365 to on premise)
    works fine.
When an email is send to a companyname.com email address the exchange 2013 mail server places the email in the Unreachable Domain queue and reports
    the following error:
Last Error: The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database
    Queue ID: SERVEREX01\Unreachable
Recipients:  [email protected];2;3;The mailbox recipient does not have a mailbox database;1;<No Home Database>
This is caused by the fact that the @companyname.com email addresses are stored in the active directory exchange uses. We tried to fix this problem to create a internal and external relay domain with the appropriate send connector but
    this didn’t help.
When we remove the proxyaddress attribute in the local active directory we are able to send email from the on premise exchange server to Office365. Removing the proxyaddresses is not a solution because these settings will be synced to
Office 365 and users can’t receive email anymore in there cloud mailbox.
It looks like the SMTP Categorizer first looks in active directory if the target email addresses is available. If so it will send the email to this users (but doesn’t have a mailbox server and mailbox database).
Can we configure a working mailflow for email from on premise to Office 365 for @companyname.com addresses?

    Hi,
Please try to set the target Address from the on premise AD account in ADSIedit to match the Cloud mailbox address, and then check the result.
In addition, I recommend you post this thread on office 365 forum:
    http://community.office365.com/en-us/forums/default.aspx
    Hope this helps!
    Thanks.

I have a current existing exchange server running on 2008 R2. apparently the partition that holds the mailbox database is getting full and i need to move some user mailboxes to another environment ( exchange 2010 running on 2008 R2). i transferred some users
