Removing mailbox/folder in "Mail"

Hi there, I've started using "mail" and I've added my 3 e-mail account, which appear under "inbox" but all my gmail appers again, under "gmail" I want to delete the Gmail folder but it wont let me, I get a message
"the mailbox "(gmail)" could not be deleted, The IMAP command "DELETE" failed with server error: Internal fold cannot be deleted. (failure)"

The number of messages contained in a selected mailbox is available at the very top of the Mail.app window directly above the message list along with the name of the mailbox.

  • Removing mailbox (Remove-Mailbox) right after mail export to PST request (New-MailboxExportRequest)

    Hi all,
I have a PowerShell script for archiving employee mailboxes after they leave the company. The script uses WinRM to connect to Exchange CAS where it:
exports user mailbox to PST files (New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox $user -FilePath $USER_ARCH\mail\MAIL_$user.pst)
export user archive mailbox to PST file (New-MailboxExportRequest -Mailbox $user -isarchive -FilePath $USER_ARCH\mail\Archive_$user.ps)
    delete user mailbox (Remove-Mailbox $user
These 3 steps are executed one after another. Since New-MailboxExportRequest is asynchronous (only creates requests and exists), the
Remove-Mailbox is triggered right after the request is submitted. Since PST file is not created or is truncated, I believe
Remove-Mailbox actually removes mailbox even though there is active request for that mailbox. Logically the mailbox with bound active requests should not be removed and there should be warning.
I know there are many possible workarounds. Just want to know if this is by design or am I missing an option to above commands?
    Best regards,
         Blaz

The same happens in Exchange 2010 making this seem like it is by design.  I can find no reference as to how to avoid this other than by changing your script.

  • Incomplete Time Machine restore in "Mail" mailbox folder

Today, my emails in one mailbox folder in Mail were not visible in the preview pane. I double clicked everywhere in the "preview pane", I looked in preferences, and I restarted the Mac... nothing. I then "Rebuilt" the mailbox, and all the emails disappeared. Okay... I need to restore the files from TM.
I found the date and files I wanted to restore from. TM processed the "restore", and the "pop-up window" showed the files were being restored to the folder. But they are not in the folder. I looked in every mailbox folder in Mail, in case it was restored to a different folder... nothing.
Could this be caused by my recent upgrade to Mavericks one day prior to this problem. Anyone experience similar problems?

See if you can make a copy of the grayed-out folder by selecting it and pressing the key combination command-D. If you can, delete the original and remove the "copy" suffix from the name of the copy.

  • E-mail changes to unreadable text when moved to another mailbox folder

    Hi,
when moving a correct received e-mail to another mailbox folder, the mail and the attachment will change to unreadable text and it looks like the column below.
On my iPad and iPhone the mail and the attachment is shown correct. If I forward it to my own account again, the mail is also correct shown an my imac27, as long as it resides in the in-box.
On the other hand, there are lots of mails+attachments with "normal" behavier when moved.
    Any idea about that?

  • Mail Rules: targeting a specific mailbox folder

Is there a way I can target a specific mailbox folder in rules versus just an account? For example if I want to make a rule that and mail entering my gmail trash folder be moved to On My Mac trash, is this possible? Trying to avoid problems with All Mail and smart mailboxes.
    thanks,
    BG

    Glenn Leblanc wrote:
You didn't say how you used TM to restore the mailbox.
    Try this:
Open Mail. With the Mail window active, enter TM. Go back in time where it shows the mailbox with the messages. Highlight the mailbox and all messages within. Click restore.
You may want to try using ONYX to rebuild the database files. It will rebuild the index files for Mail also.
Glenn, as I said, I restored from TM the specific folder/mailbox in question.   I did not try to rebuild the database files with ONYX.

  • Removing a folder from my iphone mail

I created a folder on my imac and synced it to my iphone. I no longer want the folder, so I deleted from my computer mailbox folder, but it still shows up on my iphone, even after I had synced it. How do I get rid of the folder?

When deleting a server stored mailbox for an IMAP account with the email client used on our computer for accessing the account, the mailbox should be deleted from the server as well. If the mailbox is no longer available at the server, the mailbox should not be available when accessing the account with the iPhone's Mail application.
Login to the account via webmail access using a browser. Is the mailbox still available there? If so, delete the mailbox from there.

  • How to duplicate a personal mailbox structure in Mail

I'm posting this because there may be someone else who wanted to do this but couldn't figure out a way to do it.
Ever wondered if there was a relatively easy way to duplicate a Personal Mailbox structure without creating every individual folder again? I keep my mail grouped by year and at the start of each new year I replicate the personal mailbox structure ready for the next year.  For example in my "2012 Mail" folder I have categories like Apple, Business, Family, Friends, Goverment.... etc and many of them have sub folders to further categorise.  I move messages from my inbox to those folders once I have dealt with them.
So now I wanted to create a duplicate strucutre for 2013.  There isn't a method in Mail to allow you to copy the folder structure.  If there was, I wouldn't be writing this.
If you have folders which define a category that covers mulitple years then you are probably not interested in this.
Caution:  You need to be confident with ferreting around folder structures and the way Mail works.  If you are not confident or this is all gobbledegook to you then don't attempt this.  Although I have listed the steps as carefully as possible, I take no responsibility if you mess it up.
To begin with I copied the folder  /users/<home>/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/2012 Mail.mbox to the desktop.  (The <home> folder is the one on the left of your Finder window denoted by the "House" icon.)  Took a while becasue there was a lot of mail.
The next thing to do was to go through each of the folders and subfolders and remove the data (mail messages) thus leaving just the "shell" or structure. The message data uder each subfolder is nested in a folder that has a very long alphanumeric name.  The folder might look a bit like this which is what one of mine looked like 5F7900ED-92AF-4459-B261-921142309EFE.  Drag it to the Trash or Right click and select "Move to Trash".  There was a lot of deleting to do but it took only a few minutes.
Once I had my structure created and I had emptied the trash, I renamed the folder to "2013 Mail.mbox" and copied it back to my /users/<home>/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes folder.
At this point I closed Mail becasue I wanted Mal to pick up the new folder and make it visible in my Personal folder list
Next I had to make a hidden file visible so that I could remove it before I started Mail again.  If you simply run Mail expecting to see the new structure appear in your folder list.... you wont.
To make that hidden file visible I needed to fire up Terminal and enter the following commands (copy them and paste them in your terminal window)
         defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
         killall Finder
The first command flags hidden files to be visible and the second command restarts Finder so that they can now be seen.
Back to folder /users/<home>/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes and now I could see a file named .mboxCache.plist (It is kind of greyed out to signify that it is a hidden file.)  I moved it to the Desktop.
I restarted Mail and a new folder appeared which had a very long name /Users/<home>/Library/Mail/V2/Mailboxes/2013 Mail.mbox so I renamed it to 2013 Mail.
Now to go back to Terminal and make the hidden files "hidden" again.  Type the following commands (or copy and paste them into your Terminal window)
         defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
         killall Finder
    Job done.
    Hope that helps someone.

is there another way? or is it just not possible?

  • Can't Copy Messages/Mailbox Back Into Mail

    Hi,
Something strange is happening, so I'm hoping someone here can help work it out. This is what I did:
    (1) In Mail, I had a sub-folder (Folder A) on my Mac. It was annoying me (because it was a sub-folder and I wanted to make a full folder), so I ...
    (2) Copied the Folder A.mbox to my desktop and then deleted the sub-folder in Mail.
    (3) I've been trying to move/copy the messages and/or mailbox back into Mail from my desktop but it won't budge. I've tried opening a new folder in Mail to paste the messages into, tried to import them, but nothing works. They're stuck on the desktop in Folder A.mbox.
    (4) the .emlx messages themselves are not corrupted as I can open them individually from the desktop. I can move, paste, copy them everywhere BUT Mail.
Does anyone here have any idea what's going on, and how I can move Folder A back into Mail where it belongs?
Thanks for any help or advice.

Hello, and welcome to the Discussions.
In earlier versions of Mail, each xxxx.mbox folder had its own index (different name for the index in Jaguar and earlier vs Panther. In Tiger, there is only one universal index, spanning all mailboxes -- this was done, most likely, to benefit Spotlight.
Thus, using the Finder, in pre-Tiger OSX, you could place a xxxx.mbox into the Mailboxes folder, and when you next launched Mail, it would find the newly added mailbox, and all would be well.
In Tiger, you can no longer simply move in a new xxxx.mbox, nor replace any xxxx.mbox folder, because the indexing will not recognize it, without an additional step of forcing Mail to reindex ALL mailboxes, by removing the Envelope Index -- you can force this to happen, by finding the Envelope Index file at the root level of the Mail folder, and removing (after having Quit Mail). When you then relaunch Mail, it will announce that is ready to import your mailboxes -- allow this to happen, and it will really only be reindexing all your mailboxes, including any into which you paste the xxx.emlx files, from any xxxxx.mbox folders that have been created with Mail 2.x, or that you have dragged into the Mailboxes folder.
In Mail 2.x, you can import mailboxes from any folder of xxxx.mbox folders (created with Mail 2.x), selecting only those you wish to copy, and these become additional xxxx.mbox folders in the Mailboxes folder, and the Import function takes care of the indexing issue.
    Keep us posted.

  • Which is my iCloud mailbox folder?

When I view my folder ~/Library/Mail/V2/... then I see two seemingly duplicative mailbox folders that contain my icloud email folders that are saved on the icloud server via imap.
    a) Folder "mac-[icloudname]"
    b) Folder "aosIMAP-[icloudname]"
Both folders are several GB and appear to hold many messages. The first folder is approx 50% larger than the second folder.
Are these folders duplicative? (should I delete one?)
Should I remove my icloud account in Mail App and then re-add it?
    Any guidance welcomed
    Cheers, Ross

  • Creating Smart Mailbox Folders in Mail.app (Lion): they do not save and disappear every time the application closes....

    Hello there -
Hopefully someone can help, because this is just frustrating and weird.  In Mail on Mac OSX Lion, I can create all the Smart Mailboxes I want, but if I try to create a Smart Mailbox folder, it shows up just fine in the sidebar.  But, as soon as I close Mail, then re-open, the Smart Mailbox Folder is gone as if it never existed.  This happens whether or not I actually put any Smart Mailboxes in the folder.  Anyone else seen this issue and have suggestions?

Okay, I think I just discoverd a workaround. This will work if you're lucky enough to already have a smart-mailbox folder that persists after close. (Somehow I had two such folders that already existed and weren't subject to the mysterious disappearances on closing the app; perhaps I created them in a previous OS X release?) Anyway, here goes:
Locate an already existing smart mailbox folder that's working properly. Select the folder (in the sidebar).
Duplicate that folder using the "Duplicate Smart Mailbox" Command. (It's on the contextual pop-up menu or available via the gear icon in the lower left of the window). This should produce and exact copy of the folder and the boxes inside, appearing at the bottom of the smart mailbox list.
Edit the duplicate folder to put the smart mailboxes you want in it, and delete the previous mailboxes (duplicates) that you don't want.
The new folder structure should now persist between launches of the app.
There you go. Not the most elegant process, but workable. Don't know if there's a method if you don't have at least one smart mailbox folder already though.

  • How do I add a new mailbox to a mail account on iphone?

How do I add a new mailbox to a mail account on iphone?

One thing that might help out.
To add a folder or a mailbox to your existing account, you need to add it on your computer.
Now, this will work and reflect to the iphone if you are using an imap or exchange account.
If you are using a pop account, you will not be able to add a folder to an account on the iphone.
    Hope this helps.

    Clues appreciated...

For IMAP Mail, you can hit the Edit button to add New Mailbox.

  • Remove Attachments from Leopard Mail does not remove attachment from .emix

Every day I back up my mail (and other items) to an external hard drive using an Automator workflow, in order that I can synchronize mail on my work and home Macs. In order to make this process as quick as possible, I routinely remove attachments from all mail messages once I have saved them to where they need to go on my hard drive.
I have noticed that since upgrading to Leopard (archive and install), the size of the mail folder which I back up (user>library>mail) is getting significantly bigger every day, despite removing all attachments. Upon investigation it seems that although the attachment has been removed from the mail message, the attachment is still in it's associated .emix file (e.g. user>library>mail>POP???mailaccountfolder>INBOX.mbox>messages>?????.emix - if this email contained a 5mb attachment which was removed using mail>message>remove attachments, the .emix file will still be 5mb).
Anyone else experiencing this problem? know a workaround? It didn't happen with mail in 10.4!

I am not sure when I will get the chance to test this -- maybe this afternoon. But I had not understood that what you called original continued to have the attachments. If so, this strongly suggests to me that it indeed may be the way Gmail maintains the All Mail folder that is causing this. See:
    http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=6581
If there is a setting to help this, it will have to be one that is selected in the Settings webpage of Gmail, I suspect.

  • How to make a Shared mailbox folder appear on everyones mailbox automatically

Hello, I need to find a way for a Shared mailbox
folder to appear in everyone’s mailbox automatically – preferably in their favorites. We currently have a Public Folder where everyone in the company can drag or email any suspicious, fishing, etc.
emails. Unfortunately that is not good enough for our company's upper management. They
wants me to find a way to add a folder on everyone’s mailbox so they can easily find it under their favorites and drag any questionable messages to it.
I created a Shared mailbox for this purpose and a folder and I gave everyone access to it. Now
I’m not sure how to make this folder appear automatically in everyone’s mailbox favorites. If there is a way to accomplish this I would appreciate any suggestions.  I wonder if there is a
powershellcmdlet that can help me do this. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. For now we are running on a mix environment Exchange 2010/2013, but pretty soon it will be 2013 only. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I wouldn't recommend this method, trust me this might become mess if doesn't go to right direction. People might use this shared mailbox for their
own use. Best practice is to create a shared mailbox with some sensible name like [email protected] or
something like that and then share it on the announcement board or send an announcement mail to all users and ask them to forward their spam, suspicious, fishing mails to this address.
