For those who may have similar problems, I answer my own query:
I was stymied. Tried to load the software from CD
that came with the nano. It halted and advised that I
need to remove old versions.
Questions:
+ Do I need to backup my current playlists (i.e.
will they be "deleted" if I uninstall old itunes)
Answer: NO. Itunes stores library in My Music folder. But the backup procedure is described in support
+ If so, how does one reinstall playlists? n/a
+ Why can't I remove the old ipod software (the
remove/change procedure seems to leave the old
softwhere right where it is even though acknowledging
the process)
Answer: I finally tried doing a search for "ipod" and then right clicked and chose "uninstall". That did the trick
+ If I have version 6 of itunes, do I really need to
install new software?
Answer: Don't know, but did it anyway
+ and, finally, if anyone has an abundance of time on
their hands, care to provide a step-by-step on how to
uninstall old and install new nano/itunes software?
Answer: It's on the support site
Appreciate your time,
Best Regards,

  • Unable to Install new iTunes - Already Removed Old iTunes

    Hello,
I attempted to install the latest iTunes after downloading it a few nights ago, as it was apparently required if I wanted to download movies. I got "Error code 2738" continuously.
I removed the old iTunes and made sure that nothing else related to it was running. I also removed the old QuickTime.
Now, in attempting to install iTunes OR QuickTime, I still get error code 2738. I now have no way to access my iPod or to download new music, as I now have no iTunes or Quicktime. Please help!
    Thanks!

  • Remove old iTunes folder

    Hi there,
I moved my iTunes library a couple of years ago now to an external hard drive and
all works well. The size of the iTunes folder on this external hard drive is 31G
I am having a cleanup of my iMacs internal hard drive and I notice there is still
a iTunes folder there which is about 5G.
It it safe to remove the iTunes folder from the internal hard drive??  Why is it still
    there???
    Many thnaks

Read the above links (sorry about the formatting but Apple's recent site software update is a mess and broke the way dragging formatted text works and I refuse to hand format every single post).  They tell you what a complete iTunes library is.
Make sure you have a complete library with all necessary files on the external drive.  Some people confuse moving only media with moving a library (not helped by hundreds of web sites and instructional videos doing the same).   If you have everything on the external drive you can delete the library on the internal drive (make a backup first, just in case).  If you moved only media then the library files on the internal drive are active and important.  You may still have old media on the drive.
One thing to observe is items do no get deleted unless you delete them.  "Moving" between drives is not the same as moving inside a drive. Moving between drives is only copying with you having to do the delete.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

Does it go through properly this time?

  • I cannot install or remove old itunes, install is looking for an msi

When I try to upgrade to lates Itunes or Quicktime, I get error message saying it cannot find an msi on a network drive. Same error message if I try to uninstall the existing itunes.

Follow these instructions to completely remove Apple software
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Then use free Ccleaner to repeatly repair your registry until it's fixed.
    http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard
    download iTunes again from Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/
If you have 64bit Vista or Windows 7, look for the seperate download of iTunes for that further down the page.
Once installed, use the Apple Software Update under your Start Menu to fully update all Apple components.
Your content will remain on the drive in the Music > iTunes Folder, nothing is deleted.
You  should be making backups of your content regularly, either through  iTunes or via copying the iTunesFolder in your Music folder to a  external drive.

  • Unable to install new itunes or remove old itunes program

Short story: I had to move itunes program from computer onto external hard drive. Copied the program from external hard drive to reinstall back onto computer. Now I can't open itunes program, remove it, or install a new version. Is this because it is a copy and not the original program file? I no longer have the original file. What can I do?

  • Removing old Itunes user

Ok, this should be simple, but I can't seem to find a simple answer. I had my itunes account on my Mac Book Pro, I spilled coffee on it and fried it, so it's going back, in the mean time I took over a new Mac Book Pro from our departed marketing director, and now that I'm using this Mac, I want to clear her off of it and use it for my account, it's basically my Mac at this point. Even when I go on and log in, all her stuff is still there, and none of mine, even my purchased music. I went into my old Mac, was able to start it up and I copied my "Music" folder with all my music to a back up drive, figuring once I get this sorted out I would just log into my Itues account, dig in and replace the music folder with my back up, that should work and I'm not worried about doing that part, but how do I wipe the old user off the Mac?
I have a big party coming up and I need to set a play list up, and want to get this done ASAP.
Do I just delete itunes off the Mac, or is there a better way, this should be something simple, but it seems that when you try to do anything with itunes other than simply buying music, it's always a major undertaking
    Thanks
    Todd

I believe the easiest thing for you to do will be the create a new OS X user account for yourself, then simply delete the other user account. You will be given the option to keep the existing files or delete them... delete them, as you've said you don't want to keep them. Before doing this, though, you should deauthorize the Mac from the existing iTunes Store account.

  • Please tell me how to remove ALL of my old iTunes and start over??

I can't log in to my old iTunes account.
I've tried everything, and it still says wrong password/apple id and birthday.
I called apple support, and they couldn't help me either.
So can you please just tell how to just remove my old iTunes (including my library and log in info) from my computer?
So I can just start a new account.
I don't care if I lose my songs, because i don't listen to alot of them that's on there anymore anyway,
but i can't add anymore, because of course it won't let me log in.
I've tried uninstalling iTunes through my control panel on my laptop, and reinstalling iTunes.
This didn't work, all that done was put all my songs back on there, and so of course it put my log in back on there as well.
How do I just delete ALL of it, as if I never had an iTunes?
So I can have a diffferent apple id and such.
And reinstall my ''new'' iTunes, and just get songs all over again.
Also if I do this how will my iPod touch respond?
Will it ask '' Do you wan't to delete what's on your iPod now, and replace it?'' (with whatever will be on my new one.),
    or something like that.
    Because I hope so, that's what I wan't.
I hope this makes sense. THANKS

No need to delete anything. Sign out of the iTunes store. Create a new account and sign in with it. That said fixing access to your current ID is prefereable as updating apps across multiple Apple IDs is currently akward.

If photo stream isn't working, put them in a folder and sync them to you phone by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  Just be aware that if you want to delete them to your phone in the future you will need to sync them off your phone using iTunes as they can't be deleted directly on the phone.
