Removing opening window

I just purchased a new HP Laptop.  I downloaded the current version of Adobe Reader.  When I boot Reader, a menu window appears on top of Reader.  It gives me the choices of signing in or choosing a pdf file.  I do not like this window and I want to remove it.  Can someone tell me how to do this??   I have used Reader for several years and have never seen this before.

  • Computer goes on standby and crashes all open windows.

When my computer goes on standby, all open windows (word, chrome, excel) crash and reopen. Word appears with a solid orange or dark yellow. How can I stop this from happening?
It might happen most often when the screen is being projected during the work day.
This problem has only been occuring since I updated to Mavericks a few weeks ago.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and  Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Why does closing all open windows (15) and leaving only one drop ram usage by only 100mb from 1.5 to 1.4Gb.
What is in this 1.4 gb ?
I don't care much about ram, It's just that cpu usage spike like crazy by the end.

Hi musicfan,<br />Sorry you are having problems with Firefox. Maybe you should have asked earlier and we could have fixed it.
Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.

You should not use old versions they are insecure. Security fixes are publicised and exploitable.

Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

  • I recive a message to close firefox when I try to open it, but I don't see any open window???

Sometimes I try to open a web page and receive a message that Firefox is already running and that I should close it before going to the new web page, I can not see any sign of an open window and am unable to do so. I have to restart my laptop. Suggestions?? Many thx.

Its probably because you have just closed another session of firefox and the cookies did not clear. you should do a ctrl-alt-del go to processes click on firefox and again on end task. this should fix your problem.

Hi I just got out of this situation after two weeks of forums and have tried any kind of different solutions.
If you have no response using start-up keys and you can't choose your start-up disk when pressing "Option" here is what to do.
The problem in this situation is common to users that install Boot Camp and at one stage the installation fail, may be a bug in BootCamp or just our mistakes, it doesn't really matter here is the solution.....
If you can start Windows, or Start the installation dvd of Windows do it, when In windows you will need to install BootCamp windows Driver, if you try to use the Apple downloaded file, it will not work.
You need to find the zip file in internet I found it with Google.
When you have the file run a "cmd" window with Administrator privileges.
Navigate in the folder that you have decompressed and open the folder Drivers/Apple/ you will see the file BootCamp.msi or BootCamp64.msi, of course choose the one that correspond to your Windows System .... type the file name and hit enter .... the drivers will install .... but what we really want to be install is that little icon on the system tray (right bottom).
After we will restart windows that little icon will give you the chance to restart the computer in OS X.
If something during the BootCamp and Windows installation had corrupted your OS X installation, you will have to reinstall, but at least you will be able to do it now. ;-) It took me two weeks and lot of researches, it's an hour job. Have fun.

  • Safari history will not clear with open windows

I clear my history on Safari but I found the history doesn't really clear if i have other open windows in safari. Everything in the history bar disappears but when you type in URL in a new window, it will predict from a history that should be erased. I do have a workaround.....I have to close all safari windows, clear history, and that gets everything. I would like to not have to close all windows. This just started happening a month or so ago after I upgraded. Any plans to fix this?

The reason you have a clear history button is so history will be cleared It is not clearing if other windows are open.
Correct. It does not clear if other windows are open. This is how all browsers work.
No other browser works that way.
IE 7.06 tells you you have to close the browser after deleting the history to finish removing the history.

  • Problem removing a window partition

today i installed window xp via boot camp, the installation seems fine all the way up until the step 'to install boot camp drivers'. after i inserted the Max OS X disc, it went thru the normal installation...etc. then towards the end i got the 'Found New Hardware Wizard' window and a second saying boot camp is finished. however, at this point the mouse is dead and i am unable to move it. i rebooted it a couple of times, still the mouse is disable.
so, i boot back to Mac OS, open up Boot camp and decided to remove the window partition. i chose 'If your computer has a single internal disk, click Restore'...
then i am at the 'restore disk to a single volume' with the status: partitioning disk spinning...
when i created the window partition i used 15G and i have the unibody macbook with 250G. however, this window's been spinning for the past two hours. i really don't think this should take this long. is this normal?
i do not want to re-install 10.5.5 and do a restore. what is the best way to delete the window partition? i suspect something is wrong with boot camp. what should i do?

There are few things you need to make sure before you remove the federation, like permissions, TXT records etc.

  • Not opening all my previously opened windows, many are blank!

Why does Safari randomly choose not to open all my previously open windows? Sometimes up to half the tabs/windows show up BLANK.
Often, I'll see the headings written in the tabs in the toolbars, but when I go to them, they are blank, and I must re-enter the page name manually, do a search, then load the correct one. Other times it will just be blank (usually when it's a single window, since the page name is not in the tab toolbar. WHY is it doing this?
Will clearing past history remove the ability to open a window that is open when I close Safari?

Context = this problem has nothing to do with images.  The blank pages contain no content at all, no source code.  There is simply nothing to reload.
They have headers only, which safari seems to remember separately as tab info.  The rest is gone.
I've deleted caches through prefs and developers tools.  All the other tabs refresh.  The "random", ones stripped of their URLs, do not.
So what is causing this?  Is there a pattern?  Why are only certain pages effected (some identical to the healthy tab next to it)?  Are they cloned tabs?  Is it plug-in related?  Google searches?  Old searches?  Why are they flushed from recent history?   Does it relate to icloud synching errors?  Is the content actually lost during "sleep" mode or application launch?
Has anyone really posted a fix for this?
Saxman is asking exactly the right questions.
Saxman, do you keep multiple pages of multiple tabs open every day? I do. Are some of them reduced in the dock?  Are they google search results?  New or reloaded every day?
Next time this happens to you, check to see if that blank page is still in your deep history list.  (We know that "reload tab" does not work).   In the history menu, choose "show top sites".  Then click the history button to view all your pages in cover-flow view.  Is the url info still there?   (You can use the search function here as well).
Do any of the questions I've posted ring a bell?

  • How do I remove the Windows partition? Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the remove option.

I am using an iMac, 8.1, early 2008. I installed Windows XP at that time. I am now using OS 10.8.5 and want to remove the Windows partition to free up disk space. Boot Camp Assistant does not allow me to select the "install or remove" option. How can I get rid of the Windows partition?

You can try removing it in Disk Utility.
To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Open Disk Utility and select the drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list.
    2. Click on the Partition tab in the Disk Utility main window. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. Select the bottom rectangle/partition. Click on the Delete [-] button below the sizing window to remove it. Click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
    4. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for the remaining partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and drag it all the way down to the bottom. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a restored single volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.

  • Parallels Expert Needed - Remove/Save Windows XP

I have a problem, and I am up against the clock (sort of). I purchased a new Macbook two weeks ago, and immediately loved it. I had been on a G4 Titanium a long time. I purchased Parallels because I have two PC apps I use at work and was able to eliminate my PC there completely - a good thing. Parallels worked great for me. But, the Macbook became problematic - the keyboard & trackpad freezing unexpectedly. Apple has agreed to replace the Macbook, and I have the FexEx paperwork in hand, but I need to remove the Windows XP installation, such that I can use it on my new Macbook when it arrives.
I have purchased an OEM version of XP, so it is not transferable as far as Microsoft is concerned (I posted in the Bootcamp forum to learn this). If I try to register it, I will not be able to and will need to purchase XP again. {Insert rude comment about Microsoft here} Since I am returning the Macbook without XP, I am not trying to get anything for free here. I paid for the XP version I have.
I contacted Parallels Support, and they indicated that I "MAY" be able to copy off to external media the VM(.hdd and .pvs files). Then when I reinstall Parallels/WIndows, copy these over. They were not specific about where I could find these files or when/where I copy them back.
Has anyone else encountered this, and have any wisdom? I would like to get this current machine wiped so I can send it back to Apple and get my new one.
    Thanks,
    Jon B

I am going to close my own thread in the hopes that it helps others. Poster DKP from the Parellels support forum provided this answer:
    1. Open the Parallels tool and select your virtual machine. Don't start it.
    2. Choose edit, and record all the parameters you have set differently than default or standard. This can be done with pen and notepad or by image grabbing.
    3. Now open the Windows VM (start it). We are just ensuring it was not suspended.
    4. Now shut down Windows normally using the Start menu. Do not suspend the VM. Exit Parallels.
    5. In your home directory in OS X there is a Library folder. In that folder is a Parallels folder. Copy the entire folder to a CD or DVD.
    6. Print or burn to CD the information you captured in 2.
    7. Rename the Parallels folder in the Library to Parallels.orig
    8. Copy the Parallels folder from CD to the Library folder. We're going to verify your copies are valid.
    9. Start Parallels and load the VM (this will now load your copy). If it loads and runs normally then you can shut it all down and delete all the Parallels folders in the Library folder.
    10. Go to the Applications folder and open the Parallels folder. If you have an uninstall icon, select it and uninstall Parallels. If there is no uninstall icon then go up one level and drag the Parallels folder to the trash can.
    11. Write down your Parallels license code on paper! You will need it again.
For more Parellels info go to their forum here:

  • Switching open windows of the same app?

In Tiger I was able to cycle between open windows of the same application with command + minus (the < key located in the left of my spanish ISO keyboard). Now in Leopard this doesn't work, and I have to use Exposé or go to the window menu and click there which window I want.
Has this functionality been remaped to another key, or has it been removed? It was very useful for me.
    Thank you.

Oh man, I was looking for the same, this new setup is impossible to use! what were they thinking? I used to rely so much on that command to switch between windows, I guess I'll have to install a 3rd party application like Witch.
I'm really thinking about going back to tiger, leopard is so full of bugs, I can't access my nas drive (worked fine with tiger) and I found so many glitches, apple has never disappointed me as much as with this release, and I've been following them since 7.1

  • Gnome-do pops up below last opened window [SOLVED]

I am using KDE 4.5.1 with arch. Recently, I had problems while installing  bespin-svn package from AUR. I couldn't change the Widget style under System Setting > Common Appearance and Behavior > Style > Application tab > Widget style. I wanted to change it back to Plastique because Bespin did not work right. I guess my mistake was that I deleted besptin-svn package before I changed Widget style.
I was not able to open Style window in System Setting. Whenever I try, it opened and closed right away. So, I decided to delete ~/.kde4 folder. And it bring me the default environment. Now I am trying to configure KDE as it was. After half day of struggling, I got almost of the environment.back.
The problem comes when I press CTRL-SUPER-space to popup gnome-do. It is always blocked by last opened window. I had the problem when I stall gnome-do first time. Somehow I figured out. But I do not have long memory. I forgot the howto. I am sure this can be solved by changing configuration in KDE System Setting since it happen after I remove ~/.kde4 folder.
I made a screen cast in Youtube. This shows what problem I have now.

  • Close open windows

I have alot of open windows on my Mac 10.8.  I went to each window to quick, but no luck.  I also loggged off and back on.  No Luck What can I do?
    Thanks

I was facing exactly the same problem after the 10.4.11 / Safari 3.0.4 Update. It is most likely caused by an input manager you have forgotten about. In my case it was the ancient Taboo 0.3. Go to
    Library > InputManagers
and check for a SIMBL folder.
Removal of said folder & restarting Safari solved the issue. Brute force of course, you can also look into
Library > Application Support > SIMBL > Plugins
    and delete the "Taboo.bundle".
