Removing parts of images

Hello!
I've recently started experimenting and toying around with Photoshop CS3, mainly for things I have to do for work. I've got a poster I've inserted onto a template so I have two layers. I'm just wondering how to remove parts of the image, in this case the text and just leave the background of the poster on it's own. The image is all one layer, placed into the template from a .pdf file. I've managed to get away with editing things like logos, text on previous posters I've edited using the Liquify tool but I really dont want to distort the image that the text sits in front of.
Any feedback/help would be hugely appreciated

Scott,
The process will depend on exactly how things exist in your image.
As CurtY mentions, if the text and the background are one, i.e. they have been merged into one Layer, the only option is to Select (Tool of choice, but I'd probably opt for the Rectangular Marquee), and Delete that Selected area. However, you will leave a hole, as the merged background no longer exists in that area. To "fill" that hole, the Clone Tool and the Healing Brush will be very helpful, but you will need enough of that background to work with. May be easy, or tedious.
Can you post a screen-cap with your Image Open and the Layers Palette visible? That will tell us a lot about what you have, and someone can direct you. This ARTICLE might be useful for doing the screen-cap.
Good luck,
Hunt

How do you remove part of a file. My thumbnail attach themselves then refuse to allow editing without deleting my complete work. I even scan in jpegs of my documents and it incessantly adds blanks I can't remove.

Pages documents are organized in sections. When you click on the thumbnail for a page, the section containing that page is selected. The Delete command applies to the selection, so if you press delete at this point, the selected section is deleted.
You can separate a section into two or more sections by inserting a section break at the end of the page before the page you want ot be the first in the new section, then inseritng a second section break where you want the second section to end. Click on the thumbnail for any page in the new section, thenpress delete and the new section will be deleted.
If desired, you can then reconnect the two remaining sections into one by deleting the section break between them.
An alternate is to select any floating objects on the pages you want to delete, then press delete. After that, select the text on the pages you want to delete, then press delete.
If all objects on these pages (and al objects on pages following these pages) have been placed as Inline objects, this deletion may be done in a single step. Floating objects placed below the deleted material will maintain their position relative to the top left corner of the first page of the section,m and will not be in the same place within the text as they were before the deletion.
"I even scan in jpegs of my documents and it incessantly adds blanks I can't remove."
If your jpegs are inserted as inline objects, each will be treated as a single, large character in the text. You will see the same space left and right of the object as you would create by increasing the height of one character in the line of text to the same size as the height of the jpeg image.
If they are inserted as floating objects, then depending on the Wrap settings, they may force text out of the space to the left, right, or both sdes of the object, as well as forcing a small gap above and below the object. If the scan includes excess white space around the graphic, this white space will be included as part of the object

    Barry.

  • On my MacBook with Lion Safari does start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library did not help. Where can I find and remove all components (LastSession ...)?

How can I reset Safari with all components? On my MacBook with Lion, Safari does not start, does not react immediately after trying to open it. Installing a new Safari does not help. Removing parts of Safari in the Library does not help. Where can I find and remove all components as LastSession and TopSites?

The only way to reinstall Safari on a Mac running v10.7 Lion is to restore OS X using OS X Recovery
Instead of restoring OS X in order to reinstall Safari, try troubleshooting extensions.
From the Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab. Turn that OFF, quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that helped, turn one extension on then quit and relaunch Safari to test until you find the incompatible extension then click uninstall.
If it's not an extensions issue, try troubleshooting third party plug-ins.
Back to Safari > Preferences. This time select the Security tab. Deselect:  Allow plug-ins. Quit and relaunch Safari to test.
If that made a difference, instructions for troubleshooting plugins here.
If it's not an extension or plug-in issue, delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • How do I remove Canon " My Image Garden" from the desktop when turning on my computer ?

How do I remove Canon " My Image Garden" from the desktop when turning on my computer ?  I have the icon but the program starts up and I have to delete it manually  from the desktop to clear my screen for other work...

Are you using a Windows or a Mac? What you're seeing (the backwards L shaped menu) is probably the Canon Quick Menu. If you have a Mac you can go into your applications, select Canon Utilities, then drag Canon Quick menu to the trash and empty trash can. On Windows you'd go to the control panel, select Programs and Features (or Uninstall Program/Add or Remove Program) and uninstall the Canon Quick Menu. Not required for all the normal functions of the printer. You can do the same thing for My Image Garden. Also not required.

  • Changing fill colour for partly transparent images

Does anyone know how to change the fill colour used for partly transparent images? I have a bunch of PNGs that I made for use as clip art, which I imported into iPhoto (that way I can use the media browser with Pages and Keynote).
Unfortunately, the images (which are black) are shown on top of a black rectangle both in iPhoto and the media browser. I've tried changing the background colour to both gray and black, but the 'fill' colour stays black.

There's no way to change it if you want to keep the transparency for use in other applications or web pages.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • I removed Photoshop Elements 9 and 10 from my laptop. It also removed parts of my version 12. I am not able to re-install verion 12. The install program keeps wanting to un-install version 12

I was cleaning up the programs on my hard drive and removed Photoshop Elements 9 and 10. I used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove all the left over files and registry entries. Revo also removed parts of my version 12. I re-downloaded the demo version again as I already have the serial number. When I run the install program files my only choice is to remove version 12 and I'm not able to install

    Try this,
Run the cleaner tool. clean the product(if you see).
Use the CC Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems | CC, CS3-CS6
Then Rename/delete all the Adobe folders.
The locations are: 64 bit computer.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe.
    32 bit computer.
    C:\Program Files \Common Files\Adobe.
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe.
You also have Adobe folders in :
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Local\Adobe
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Locallow\Adobe
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\OOBE
    Then Re-install the product.

  • Having difficulty using quick selection tools to remove background form images. Any help appreciated

    Hello All,
I am trying to remove background from images using the 3 different selection tools.  I start off fine, but ultimately the entire images keeps getting grabbed which ever tool I am using.  It is easier if you are using a pro version of photoshop and not any of the elements versions?  I have elements 11.
    Thanks

Whenever I have watched a video of this process, it seems so easy!
So much depends on the image itself to determine which tool is most appropriate. Another tool to try is the selection brush, where you literally paint in what you want to select.

  • Use removable part from iPod charger for MacBook?

I was wondering if I can use the removable part of the old iPod charger for my MacBook charger instead of the extension cord.
I work with a plug 20 cm away from my MacBook, so I don't really want all the cables on my desk.

No. No part from a iPad charger will work with a Mac notebook. All you are asking for is Trouble. Move your desk closer to an AC outlet.

Sounds that you installed a Persona.
You can uninstall your current Persona and revert to the Default theme (Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

  • Removing Portal Branding image&Logos!

    Hi All
I want to remove Portal branding image&Logos,b'z it takes lot of network space.
We are maintaining 4000 users in EP.
Suggest me...any problems if i remove those logos.
    thx
    Pradeep

    Pradeep,
there shouldn't be any problems. Alternatively, simply replace them with a transparent 1x1 pixel gif, so that so at least have a valid image.

  • Removing background leaves bits around part of image?

I have an image of a tripod that I want to key the background out of so I use the Magic Eraser Tool at various different tolerance levels and it leaves a bit of background around parts of the legs. If I boost it too much it erases part of the legs. What is the best way to handle this?
    Thanks.

    Sorry, unclear wording.
I meant the Pen Tool, which in the Options Bar can be set to »Add to path area«, thus subPathItems (the individual paths in one Path in the Paths Panel) created with it will not intersect, but add to one another.
With objects like the one you posted I like to avoid having to set a corner point at the intersection of the segments and drag the bezier handles, but rather create a Path for one of the elements and then command-alt-click-and-drag it to duplicate and offset it so as to fit the next segment – repeating and adapting as often as needed.
This Path can then be used as a Vector Mask (see the previous screenshot).
But just painting a regular Layer Mask might be faster …
    Edit:
