Removing printer profiles

I just upgraded to an Epson 3880 from a R1800 and want to remove the R1800 color profiles from the print dialogue in aperture 3. Does anyone know how manage profiles in the print setting. Sorry if this question is ********, but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.
BTW, I was always fighting my R1800 for correct prints, adjusting brightness and so forth and never really 100% happy with the prints. I started printing less and less. The 3880 is totally different. Prints are spot on with the display with NO adjustments in the print settings. I can't believe it. I'm in love with this printer. Profiles are perfect. As an aside, what are most people using for render intent?

I just went through the exact same upgrade as you, going from R1800 to 3880. Couldn't be happier also, R1800 drove me nuts!
Looking at my color profiles, I only see 3880 profiles now, no R1800 specific ones. Just installed 3880 with new driver, installed as a network printer. Seems as if the installation took care of R1800?? I didn't have to do anything special.
Been using Relative Colorimetric rendering with black point compensation.

  • Removing Printer Profiles for use in PS CS3

I'm setting up my work flow using PS to manage printing. I have lots of printer profiles accumulated over the years and would like to weed them out. How can I do that? Where are they located in the files? I'm using OS 10.5.2.
    Thanks.

They're generally located in your Library>ColorSync>Profiles folder, but some are also in the same folder under your User name. Because I make custom profiles for both myself and others, not only inkjets but at least twenty different printing houses and a couple of photo labs here in lo-cal, I have hundreds. What I do is make a new folder called Profiles Disabled and move all the unwanted profiles to that folder. I'm not getting rid of them permanently but getting them out of sight as far as Ps is concerned.

  • Printers not listed after printer profile installed

I've been enrolling a number of Macs in Profile Manager and trying to push printer configs out to the Macs. It seems to work well enough - the clients receive the printers and are able to print. But with the printer profile installed, no printers are listed in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. I can see that the printers are present from the lpstat command and if I open a document or webpage and try to print, all printers are listed and usable. As soon as I remove the printer profile, printers are once again visible. This is happening on all client computers.
I have tried resetting the print system on clients (both through the UI and by just replacing /etc/cups/cupsd.conf and other similar files with their defaults), and this problem still occurs. I've also removed all profiles (including trust profile and enrollment profile) from clients, removed the computer from the server's config, removed printer profiles on the server, and then tried re-adding and re-applying a brand new profile. Still no luck. Even a brand new client with a brand new profile ends up with its printers being hidden in the System Preferences UI.
I suspect there must be something wrong on the server rather than on the clients, perhaps some file that I need to replace with default config, though I don't really know where to start looking.
Any ideas? All suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I have actually seen this as well but have no clue what causes this issue. It's annoying because I have also seen this happen where it will hide local printers.

How do I remove extra profiles from color mangement in Print Module?

If you're talking about the "short list" then click on other and then uncheck the ones that you don't want displayed. If you're talking about the long list, then you will have to browse to the folder containing the profiles and then delete them manually.

  • How do I remove cmyk profiles from a pdf. and keep it strictly 2 color process?

My company is trying to outsource a booklet to an offset printing company. We are strictly digital printing, and I honestly have no experience with offset. In the past I would build the documents with the pantone colors that were needed in whatever software I was using to create it (Illustrator, Indesign), do my checks and fixes in Acrobat and send it to the printer, and it would get done. The current printer is having an issue with the files that I'm giving him. He says, that the files contain CMYK profiles, and has to strictly be 2 color process. The file is pointing to the correct spot colors, but it does still does contain the CMYK profiles, list I have no idea how to remove the CMYK profiles, I can convert them to RGB, but that doesnt help. How do I remove these profiles and make the PDF strictly use spot colors, or does this not make any sense, Honestly it doesn't to me.

Honestly it does not to me either.
You have a history of creating spot color files - but are using a new vendor...what I'm hearing from the vendor doesn't make sense
...do my checks and fixes in Acrobat and send it to the printer, ...
Have you checked the PDF - verified that your Spot colors are Spots, not cmyk builds?

Communicate very clearly  - cmyk profiles or cmyk elements?
To my limited knowledge, every file will have a profile - it's a moot element in spot color printing -

  • This printer is referenced by the printer profile option.

    Hello,
I am trying to delete a printer in the Printers screen, and getting this message:
"This printer is referenced by the printer profile option. You cannot delete a printer that is referenced."
I ran the first select statement to identify the users with this printer in their profiles, and cleared the printer from their profiles.
I ran the second select statement to identify any scheduled jobs going to this printer, and cancelled and rescheduled the jobs to another printer.
I then did some research, and found the third select statment to find the request sets, and moved them to another printer.
I am still getting this profile error. Where else can there exist a profile that is preventing the printer from deleting?

  • Canon IP3000 printer profile problem in Lion

I have a Macbook Pro with Lion installed on it. I was given a good working Canon IP3000 printer, and decided to hook it up to my laptop. I found the Canon website driver for it and installed it. Once I open my Photoshop CS5, and go to print, I see the IP3000 in the window, but it crashes Photoshop every time. I found out it is not compatible with Lion. I tried as much as I can to delete the profile from my system, Colorsync folder, etc. I searched for Canon and IP3000, and nothing is left.
    Question,
1.why is it still showing up when I open Photoshop? It's still crashing Photoshop.
    2. Is there a third party printer profile that will work with my IP3000 and Lion?

The driver files would have been added to /Library/Printers/Canon/BJPrinters. If you haven't done so already, you may want to remove the contents of this folder.
When the printer was created, files from the above folder would have been copied to hidden directories, such as ./etc/cups. Removing the printer from Print and Scan should have removed these files but there may be a remnant or two that is causing the crash. A reset of the printing system should help clean this up.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4297
Note that this action will remove all devices from Print and Scan, but not the driver files in /Library/Printers, so you will just need to add the printer again.
As for a supporting driver, since you want to print from Photoshop then I would recommend you purchase PrintFab
    http://www.printfab.net/
This will give the best results, providing you are using Photo paper.
One last thing. The iP3000 is old and is not going to give great results compared to newer models of printers.

  • Allow Soft Proofing - allow selecting printer profile

The claim to fame purports to make LightRoom a one-stop processing shop for Photographers.
Most photographers prefer to send their post-processed files to the lab. And if they really know their stuff, they are probably profiling their images to the lab printers. This is where LR fails miserably.
To make my point, I will start off by explaining how RawShooter worked (RawShooter was purchased by Adobe and after major surgical procedure sold as Lightroom):
    For Rawshooter:
    1. Open the RAW file.
    2. Choose the profile of the printer I wish to use for the final output. This results in a significant color shift to the image as seen on the screen. After all, the benefit of the profile is to ensure that What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG).
    3. Make changes to the image so that the final output is to your liking. (remember, the RAW files themselves are never modified. All you do is create offset points and save that data seperately)
    4. Export to JPG
    5. Send image to the lab with an assurance that WYSIWYG.
    With Lightroom:
    1. Open the RAW file
    2. No ability to choose a printer profile.
    3. Make changes to the image with no idea how the final output is going to look. (remember, the RAW files themselves are never modified. All you do is create offset points and save that data seperately)
    4. Export to JPG
    5. Send image to lab with the hope you like what you get (HYLWYG)
So, LR cannot be a one-stop shop for processing and printing RAW files. Any one who understands the importance of printer profiles would demand a WYSIWYG image to which one can apply the changes.
Rawshooter was much better at this.

    >Here's the scoop. The reason for Lightroom is as a repsoitory for all your ORIGINAL ARCHIVE FILES...in a single place and single condition. The idea is that you DON'T need to keep track of all your "consumable file"-files that are made for a single consumption.
Here's another scoop, the idea as you describe it, doesn't really work.
The parts I'm having particular difficulty with :
    1. There seems to be some fixed assumption as to what's "archiveable" and what's "consumable".
    2. There also seems to be a double standard wherein some JPEGs and PSDs and TIFs can live happily aside their original RAW counterparts. Whereas other formats and color spaces can't. This is the abritrariness I was referring to in your earlier defense of LR being just for digicam snapshots.
Would it be more appropriate to ask at what point does a derivative of the original photo become a new archiveable format? How much value needs to be added -- or for that matter removed?
For example, I like to vectorize raw photos in Illustrator (which, incidentally, does an excellent job) -- then modify them as my master copy. This procedure modifies my photo into a new master derivative of the original photo -- not entirely unlike the way your friend John Paul modifies his photos into new master archiveables using Photoshop.
If I were to convert the new archievable, say, from PDF to PSD ... it turns it into a consumable with a narrower intention -- but not a master copy as it wouldn't be in it's original higher quality PDF, AI or EPS formats.
Another situation is where I get a CMYK scan back from the service bureau. An author may have had a photo hanging on the wall or in their photo album -- scanned. It would be more appropriate to inventory those master copies in the same project folder as digicam snaps (mixed archivable media) that the original author/photographer send me.
I also get other project pieces produced in other Adobe suite software. If an Adobe application generates a master digital snapshot of those archiveables, why couldn't they also be ingested into LR too?
IMO, having LR keep track of ALL derivative works makes a lot more sense than arbitrarily selecting subsets of what is deemed "archiveable." Why not let the customer decide that?
    >So, that means that your "Library" is very simple and very organized.
It also means it's inaccurate. Right now LR is only ingesting 75% of what I would call my library. Of the 40,000 or so files I've attempted to inventory -- only slightly more than 30,000 are ingested. That means about 25% are falling through the cracks.
This might be acceptable for non-critical photography ... but falls short of enterprise expectations. And maybe -- click -- that's the intention? Maybe this product was never meant to address enterprise level photography. Is that it? Have I just over-shot your target market?
I've gone on the record as stating that LR is a valuable product, and I still highly recommend it for "many" things. However, IMO, it would be better to look a little over the horizon rather than digging in one's heals and prejudging what's archiveable.
The view that digicams are the only archiveable format is, IMO, sooooo yesterday ... dude ... :~)

  • How to turn off color management in Canon MX860 for printer profile

I just got my Spyder3Print updated with the SR software to calibrate my Canon MX860 on a Mac OS X system. I am using 3rd party paper (Kirkland) and 3rd party ink (uni-kit). There are no existing .icc profiles out there for this combo. I have been using canons "GL2/GL3" profile which does not give me, as expected, a good color match.
When the program asks to print the target it says to make sure the "color management is off".
I cannot find an "off" selection. In the "color mode" portion of the dialog box I do get to choose between "colorsync" and "canon color matching"???
I was guessing colorsync and then I have to pick a printer/paper/ink .icc profile. Not sure what to use for this first target print.
Not sure if that choice represents color managment off?

Just got the answer from Spyder:
his applies to ALL Canon printers drivers running under both Leopard and Snow Leopard and it's the correct "solution" to get them to print without color management (a critical, unavoidable requirement for building custom printer profiles with any 3rd party printer profiling solution).
Make sure you're running OSX 10.6.2 or whatever the latest is. There have also been some Canon driver updates that will show up in System Preferences:Software Update, so make sure you've got nothing left to apply as an update. Another way to make sure you have the latest Canon driver installed: go to Print & Fax, select your current Canon driver, and click on Options and Supplies... to see what version it is. (It should be 10.26.0.0 or later, and here's the Apple list of latest drivers for all printers):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
If you don't have the most recent driver, then click "-" to remove the older Canon driver from the list. Then, with the printer attached and powered on, click "+", and add back the driver for it (this should download and install the latest version for you).
Now: when you PRINT and want to turn off color management in Spyder3Print, THIS is the way to do it:
In the Color Matching pane of the driver, select ColorSync (not Vendor Matching, or Canon Color Matching!)
In the popup beneath that, you'll see "Automatic"; a list of all the Canon standard profiles; and a command to choose from other profiles. Use that last command to see a list of all profiles on your system.
Select "Generic RGB" from the list. (this is the key). Then say OK and you'll see that "Generic RGB" shows beneath the ColorSync radio button in the Color Matching pane. This is the secret to disabling color management with the Canon drivers in Snow Leopard (and it also works in Leopard, as well, although in that case, a warning gets displayed underneath "Generic RGB", which can be ignored)
Select the paper type, output quality, resolution, etc. as usual and print the target sheet. (Just leave the Color Options pane alone)
NOW you should get a properly dark (non-color-managed) target print. Measure this and build a profile.
Printing with "No Color Management" from Photoshop actually works the same way. It invisibly pushes through "Generic RGB" or an equivalent when you choose "No Color Management" in its Print dialog, This is why, in the Color Matching pane of the driver, ColorSync subsequently comes up auto-selected and also disabled; Photoshop has done the same thing I just described "under the hood" and as a result, that choice in the driver gets "locked".
When printing through the profile in Photoshop: do it the usual way. (Photoshop Manages Colors, choose the profile, Saturation intent, etc etc etc). It should work fine.
When doing a test print from inside Spyder3Print: since Spyder3Print applies the profile internally to the image data before it's sent to the driver, you should set the driver up exactly the same as when you printed the target image (as I've described above), so this would be ColorSync:Generic RGB in the Color Matching pane.

the Customize Proof Condition area under "Device to Simulate:

Well I see the released version of LR2 has the exact same behavior when choosing printer profiles as pre 1.4.1 did. You guys are a real price of work. What the h___ were you thinking?
At least the workaround changing the colorsync profile in the colorsync utility still works but of course limits you to just a few paper choices.
    MacPro 10.5.4, Canon iPF9000 Driver Version 1.30

    > I am now finding exclamation points on a bunch of different preview images
    > throughout the whole catalog
I have a PC and am not familiar with LR on the Mac, but I too had many
problems and appear to have made progress by removing the previews and
building them again. I thought I had done this already, but perhaps I
stepped on them with 1.4.1 by accident. In any case, I deleted the previews
again and am rendering them again. After a few hours, 9,552 previews have
been rendered, with about 37,000 to go. The rate of progress looks
reasonable. I don't want to do too much during this large number of
renders, but it appears as though I can navigate the images with relative
speed. I'll hit everything harder when the renders are done, but I'm
    optimistic this time.
Bottom line. Try deleting your previews and see if that helps.
    Best,
    Christopher

  • How do you use an outside Lab ICC Printer Profile in PSE 12?

I have an image that I scanned in from an old print then I edited it using PSE-12. Now that I've completed the editing and retouching I plan to have the image printed by an outside that has the ability to read ICC Printer Profiles designed for their printers embedded in the image. My proble is I don't know how to add a particular ICC Printer Profile to a image worked on in PSE-12. If I was using Lightroom or PS-CS5 or 6 there is a straight forward way to accomplish this goal.
Is there any way to accomplish the same objective when using PSE-12?

Thanks MichelBParis.  I must be getting old (I'm 78) and I completely missed that when I was in Dry Creek Photo. In fact that is where I get all of my ICC Printer Profiles from when I'm using either Lightroom or Photoshop CS. What I'm doing is tutoring a friend on the use of PSE-12 (although I do own a copy for my own use) and I was trying to set him up to use ICC Printer Profiles and avoid letting the labs do "Automatic Color Adjust). I had many images ruined in the past just because the lab did an automatic color adjust until an operator schooled me on what was happening. I'm now a part time photographer and I never send an image to be printed without first making sure I have an applicable ICC Printer Profile embedded. and request the lab to turn off their automatic color adjustment.
Thanks again for the perfect solution.

  • Print profiles no longer working correctly with CS6 64bit to my Epson R2880

Hi, until recently, my print profiles were working correctly  with CS6 64bit (Win 7 ultimate 64) to my Epson R2880, they now print washed out/desaturated  but the same profiles still print correctly using Lightroom 4. has there  been an update that could have affected things or are there any other  suggestion? Thanks, Dave.

    Hi,
    I hope someone can help!
I recently bought my first Mac, a great MacBook Pro which I love!
I use Lightroom3 and Photoshop CS5 to edit photos and now want to print from my Epson R1800.
I found that the prints initially came off very dark & contrasty, so I calibrated both the MBP screen and my Samsung SuncMaster 245B monitor with my Spyder2 and the Colorvision software.
Even after establishing colour profiles for both screens, the printed image was still far darker and "heavier" than that shown on screen. This was the same whether printing from LR3 or from the Mac Preview app (it was worth trying I thought!).
So searching for help on the web I came across this thread and now wonder whether I should uninstall my driver (6.57) and reinstall the printer with 6.23.
Stephen did you find that this worked - did PS CS5 behave after that?
Of course I'm trying to print some work soon and in desperation could adjust every (edited) image by brightening & reducing contrast, however with dozens to print it seems crazy to do that, not to mention wrong!
    Thanks for any help!
    Paul

  • Printer profiles in templates

I've just spent most of the afternoon trying to resolve a problem.
My question is does any one know if the printer profile in " User Templates" overrides the one selected in the image settings column.
The reason I ask is that I've been trying to match 2 print sizes in LR without much success. The smaller ones match the screen but the larger one's don't. Both were printed from my own designed templates.Nothing complicated just some custom sizes. Switching to CS3 I printed the larger prints and got a perfect match.
In frustration I used one of the LR print templates to see what would happen. Guess what I got the match I was looking for.
Not wishing to make the mistake again I deleted the offending template before it occurred to me to check the profile associated with it.
Regrettably I couldn't check what printer profile was included, hence my question

When you print from iPhoto you can select the paper type, such as Archival Matt, and that Epson profile will be used. The Epson R300 Standard is merely a description of the printer you are using. This is the same behavior as in Photoshop. Where you might see a difference is in the way Photoshop displays the image on screen, based on your monitor profile and color settings. iPhoto is not really using a source profile for display purposes, other than the camera sRGB (assuming you're using a digital camera that uses sRGB. So if you edit an image in iPhoto—brightness, contrast, etc) it may apper different on screen and cause you to make changes that will result in a unsatisfactory print.
