Removing QuickTime 7.7.1 Plug-in

How do I remove QuickTime 7.7.1 plug-in in Lion 10.7.3. When I download a PDF in Safari, it uses QuickTime as the default to save and open one page of the PDF.

Quit Safari.
Open the Library folder in your home folder by selecting Go ▹ Library from the Finder menu bar (Lion), or by looking in the folder with the house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window (pre-Lion.)
Delete the following items from the Library folder:
Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Preferences/com.apple.quicktime.plugin.preferences.plist
Preferences/QuickTime Preferences
Relaunch Safari and test.

  • What do I lose by removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin"?

After upgrading to Leopard (Erase and install, then migrate data from a backup off an external HD), all the flash videos and ads had the Quicktime icon with a question mark on it. After searching through Apple discussions and google, I found a site that suggested removing "Quicktime Plugin.plugin" from the library folder. It seemed like a strange fix but I did it anyway since I already went into Quicktime prefs and unchecked "Enable Flash." I also reinstalled Adobe flash player for Safari- both with no luck.
So what will I be losing by removing this plugin? I'm assuming its a necessary plugin.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Very necessary. In answer to your question, have a look at this thread, especially QuickTimeKirk's post.
Have you checked your System Preferences>Quicktime>Advanced>Mime Settings panel? In the Miscellaneous panel only QuickTime HTML ought to be selected. If the other boxes are selected, then you'll have problems with QT in Safari.
Regarding Flash, if you reinstalled it, then make sure you "repair permissions" via Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.

  • Removed Quicktime now iTunes won't open...IDIOT!!

I removed quicktime the other day stupidly thinking that I would not need it for iTunes, and now when I try to open iTunes, it says "Quicktime failed to initialize (error-2093) Quicktime is required to run iTunes, please reinstall iTunes."
So I have the iTunes/quicktime disk that came with my iPod, so I could restore them both, but will this delete all the info from songs I had in iTunes? I mean, I have all the music saved in a seperate music folder, but I had gone into iTunes and corrected the names and info on like thousands of songs, is that all lost?
Any help is appreciated, I'm computer ******** as you can probably tell by my stupid move. Thanks!

Thanks, but I tried that as well! When I removed quicktime originally, I had tried to install a different quicktime that my friend gave to me, but turns out it was the wrong one. That's when the problems started, so I restored to Sunday when iTunes was working, and it removed the other quicktime I had put in but left me with no quicktime at all and that's when I started getting the first error message.
I think I screwed my computer up somehow lol I appreciate the ideas!

  • I remove Quicktime player 10.0

I involuntarily remove Quicktime player 10.0 from my mac and now when i wanted to download it again, but it's not possible because it show me that quicktime is built into the mac ( http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ ), when i download quicktime it's only version 7.5.5 or latest with blue icon (before i had blue, grey icon)
Please what should i do when i want a version of Quicktime player 10.0

QuickTime Player will definitely be on your Mac OS X 10.6 installer DVD, either a retail copy or the installer disks that came with your Mac. Here are the steps:
    1) download Pacifist from http://www.charlessoft.com/
    2) Insert the Snow Leopard install DVD.
    3) Launch Pacifist
    4) Click the button that says "Open Apple Install Disks"
    5) In the window that will open, accept the choice of "OS Install - Mac OS X and standard applications"  A window titled "OSInstall.mpkg" will open
    6) If the list of contents under "Contents of OSInstall.mpkg" does not appear, click the disclosure triangle to show the list
    7) Click the disclosure triangle next to "ContentsofEssentialSystemSoftware"
    8) Click the disclosure triangle next to "ContentsofEssentialSystemSoftwareGroup"
    9) Click the disclosure triangle next to "Contents of Essentials.pkg"
    10) Click the disclosure triangle next to "Applications"
    11) Click "QuickTime Player.app" to select it
    12) Select the "Install Files to Default Location" command under the File menu
    13) Make sure that "Use Administrator Privileges" is checkmarked and that the file will be extracted to /Applications/
    14) Click the "Install" button.
Pacifist should then restore QuickTime Player X to your Applications folder.
    Regards.

  • Problems removing quicktime

i recently uninstalled the latest quicktime version and then did a system restore to get it back, but now my itunes program is telling me im missing files, i tried reinstalling itunes and quicktime but it gives me and error 3 message at the end of the quicktime part. now, i cant even remove quicktime completly, i tried to remove it via change or remove programs under the control panel and it opens up the installer/uninstaller loading screen but then closes right away. how can i get this off my computer so i can reinstall everything again? system restore isnt helping either

You'd have to go to C:\WINDOWS\Installer DIR and locate what QuickTimeUninstaller_ico exe was left behind after the original QT removal or system restore. There are probably two, they will have a date, remove one or the other and try add\remove programs again. Or maybe the QT uninstaller no longer corresponds with the version you are trying to remove, after the restore, so the add/remove control panel will not remove the program. So then you will have to remove QT manually. Does that make any sense to you?

  • How do I remove QuickTime X

How do I remove QuickTime X and replace it with Quicktime 7.6? My mid 2010 Mackbook pro had mavericks installed and now the QuickTime x will not read my AVI files anymore. This is so sad because I have over 150 video clips that all need to be converted now.

You do not need to remove QuickTime X, because Apple gives you the steps to install QuickTime Player 7 alongside QuickTime X > http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3678
You can upgrade it to QuickTime Pro if you have got the product key

  • Want to remove quicktime and keep Itunes

    Hi all -
Quicktime on Windows is one the worst pieces of software I have ever experienced. I just want it removed from my pc, but the problem is that I like Itunes, and Itunes requires Quicktime to run. Is there a way around this?
I have to remove Quicktime because it somehow keeps hijacking my file associations and it breaks flash (read: youtube) every time it does this. After editing Quicktime Preferences this fixes it, but for some reason Quicktime grabs the associations again after every Apple update, which is annoying as ****. Is there any way to remove it and keep Itunes working??
    Message was edited by: MikeDeezy

iTunes needs Quicktime to run. The earliest version of Quicktime that the latest version of iTunes will work with is 7.1.6. I'm currently using Quicktime 7.3.1. I can't watch some videos from the iTunes store, but music plays fine which is all I need. Using 7.3.1 also means some vulnerabilities won't be patched. I don't go to sketchy Web sites, and I always use a regular user account for daily computing instead of an Administrator account.

  • Quicktime 7.4.1 plug-in crashing on streaming audio

the quicktime 7.4.1 plug-in seems to be crashing in Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox 2. It crashes everytime the embedded player attemts to unload or load a new stream. The whole browser crashes. Are there any settings I can tweak? The plug in works fine on Mac OS X

    Hi Corey,
You posted to my topic "Quicktime Player 7.4.1 Not Playing Most Web-based Content" indicating that your problem is the same as mine. In reading over your topic I would like to clarify a few things. I broke your original topic posting into 4 parts so it's easier to discuss each separately. Below each I have given my best interpretation of what I believe you are saying. If I got it wrong let me know.
    1. +Hangs interminably on opening web link yields huge question mark+
I open Safari. I have the default URL (web page) set to a site which plays videos or Safari opens normally and I then try to view a web page which contains a video. The video embedded in that page fails to play via the Quicktime plug-in. Instead Safari shows a box with a "Q" in it where the video should be, and after 10-20 seconds a large Question mark appears.
2 +No web files will play (e.g., Apple movie trailers).+
My problem appears to happen with every video I attempt to view. Sound files, text and other web page components appear to work as they normally did.
3 +Have purged all QuickTime elements, have reinstalled, etc. No help.+
I stripped out every component (.plist. plugin, application, etc) I could find in HD/Library and HD/Applications which had the word "Quicktime" (and maybe just "QT") in their name.
4 +You can drag and drop movies on my drive to the program, and it will play them, however.+
When I drag and drop a movie from some folder on my drive onto the Quicktime application's icon, Quicktime starts up and plays the video just fine.

  • Cannot open nor remove quicktime from my computer

Cannot open nor remove Quicktime from my computer.
Quicxktime is installed but when I try to open a mp3 file using quicktime my Windows installer tells me that Quicktime cannot be found.

Windows installer tells me that Quicktime cannot be found.
Is that the QuickTime.msi that can't be found, robert?
If so, unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing QuickTime again. Does the install go through properly? If so, does your QuickTime Player launch now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • Remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard

    Hello!
I am experience some problems with QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard in cooperation with Perian and DownloadHelper (a FireFox add-on).
Every time or better said sometimes I use DownloadHelper with Firefox under Snow Leopard on my MBP a process called "QtKitServer" crashes and I get a black screen.
And yes, I installed QuickTime 7 on this machine. I also tested this on my iMac (QT X only!) there this doesn't happen.
This must be a bug in OS X. But I need this tool on MBP without getting any black screens just because of QtKitServer crashes.
So, I found a solution: I want to get rid of QuickTime 7.
But how can I remove QuickTime 7 under Snow Leopard?
    Can someone help me?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello folks!
I found a work around. A few minutes ago I deactivated the icon preview for "Desktop". And until now everything seems to work.
It seems to be that in this moment when DownloadHelper and Firefox are writing a file on the desktop who isn't downloaded completly QuickLook wants to access that file, can't understand it, and crashes.
So it must be a Mac OS X / QuickTime bug.

  • How to remove auto start of firefox plug in page

    1) how to remove auto start of firefox plug in page. we do not want this site to open when openning firefox.
    2) we proceeded with a few updates as requested, but firefox did not show the update once complete-still said need to update.

First of all your Flash plugin is out of date: Use Adobe's own page to test your version of the plug-in and to update it www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ -- evidently the same information is not getting to the Mozilla plug-ins test. That might fix your problem if your home page uses Flash such as a news site.
Find updates for installed plugins at www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/mozilla.com/plugincheck
plugin page keeps coming up: see https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/questions/832793 particularly the replies near the end (different replies for different users).

  • Remove Quicktime as Default downloader

Hi, I believe this is the place to get my question answered. quickly. I apologize if this is the wrong place for this question. I did do a search in the archives but missed the subject if it is there. Right now I am very annoyed because Quicktime, with the updating of itunes, has installed itself and taken over my downloading. I want to remove this as a defulat when I download an ipod video. I updated itunes on my IBM Thinkpad and now Quicktime wants to handle all my downloads and I do not it want to. I need to convert files for use on my Treo and need the download the way it comes from the website. Quicktime gives me the option of saving the video but only if a I purchase Quicktime Pro, and I am certainly not inclined to do that now that Quicktime has hijacked my computer. So, I need help diabling QuickTime from being the default downloader for videos, for example, the free ipod downloads from from Channel Frederator (great cartoons by the way). I have tried to figure this out and have not succeeded. I have even uninstalled Quicktime but then itunes won't work. I was perfectly happy with the way it was before the upgrade and despair of ever getting back my control over downloads. Please help me. Thanks Sherrill Hondorf

Use the QuickTime Control Panel. Not sure which tab but you want to open the MIME Settings window.
Remove the check mark for all the file types you don't want the plug-in to open and restart your browser.

  • Removing Quicktime Browser Plugin?

I recently installed the latest version of Itunes, which includes Quicktime 7.0.x. For certain uses, I prefer to use Real Player, not Quicktime. Specifically, in my web browser (Firefox or Explorer) many file types and links now result in the use of the Quicktime Plug-in, not Real Player, regardless of my settings.
How can I prevent this, or just simply remove the Quicktime plug-in?
    Thanks.

When you installed QT7 it asked if you wanted it to be the media player by default. So now a easy way would be to right click on a media file and go to properties, where it says opens with, choose program, browse, and make the change to the media player you want to handle those files.
