Removing resource forks from photos and videos etc.?

A couple of years ago I was recommended to use BlueHarvest or ZapResourceForks to remove the duplicate "thumbnail" images I was getting when playing photos on an SD card inserted into my Sony TV.
I am now using Mountain Lion and ZapResourceForks does not appear to work on anything past Snow Leopard.
I have downloaded the 30 day demo of BlueHarvest which works perfectly but for my occasional needs I can't justify the $15 cost.
Is there any free method of doing the job in ML ?

Here's an update which may be of use to others with a similar problem.
R-C-R  suggested this free app which works marvellously and is available from the AppStore
http://macpaw.com/cleanmydrive
Another problem I mentioned earlier was that when playing photos on my BD player, they were listed and appeared in a random order.
Several Google searches revealed that this was a common problem dating back several years but with no apparent solution.
After experimenting I discovered it is caused by using photo file names containing an odd number of numerals such as 001 or  00001 etc. (Any letters or words prefixing the number don't matter).
Simply using 01 or  0001 etc.ensures everything is listed in the correct order.

  • I have updated my computer to iTunes 10.5 and my iPhone 3Gs to OS 5 and it has wiped my music, photos and video etc.  I want to load my data from my wifes computer and it refuses because that computer does not have OS 5..Help

I wanted to upgtade my iPhone software to Ver5 but it said I had to upgrade iTunes to Ver10.5.  Once the updates were complete I saw that all my music, photo' and video etc had been erased from both my iTunes AND my iPhone!!!!
I tried connecting to my wifes computer and her iTunes in order to back up my music etc and it will not allow it and states that my iPhone needs iTumes Ver10.5!!
This is very inconvenient and I am scared that if I update my wifes computer to Ver 10.5 we will lose that data also and as her phone is an older 2G iPhone, Ver10.5 may not work there!!
How can I get her music etc onto my iPhone 3Gs Ver5 as ALL of my data is now lost?

i had the same problem but i just got a new video converter and made it convert videos to ipod/iphone format and then put them into itunes. i would suggest GOM encoder as the encoder can convert them and then once they're finished converting, put them automatically into your itunes for you. from there you can just sync them to your ipod.

  • I really need emergency iphone help- please- it has gone into restoration mode and wont come out unless i click restore- if i do will i loose all my photos and videos etc? please help!!!

i recently plugged my iphone4 into my laptop to sync, when i plugged it in, itunes told me that i needed to update my software, so i clicked up date and walked awayfrom my computer leaving it to do the rest, but by the time i came back to my laptop 2-3 hours later i had realized that it has run out of charge and because of it my phone had gone into retoration mode- and the only way to fix it was to press restore. what do i do? do i click restore or will that take my phone back to factory settings as i have a tonne of photos and videos etc that i have not backed up yet?
what should i do anny coments or ideas please let me know!

The first step in the upgrade process is a backup.
Did iTunes not create a new backup when you first connected it?
You really should be syncing your device and copying pictures off of it on a regular basis.
Starting an upgrade without first syncing and copying the pictures off is not a bright idea.
At this point, you only option is to restore.
Also, in the future, ensure your laptop is plugged into external power before starting upgrades.

You may notice a difference in available space statistics between Disk Utility, Finder, and Get Info inspectors. This is expected and can be safely ignored. The Finder displays the available space on the disk without accounting for the local snapshots, because local snapshots will surrender their disk space if needed.

  • TS3274 How do I remove hundred of photos and videos from my new iPad mini, that were downloaded via my iMac from an earlier iPad2 backup?

When restoring my old iPad2 (32G) via itunes on my iMac, thousands of pictures/videos from the last 2 years were downloaded along with apps and mail. The new mini is the 16G version and I am eating up memory with all these photos and videos. Selecting the photos in the iPad mini wont let me put them into trash.
How can I get rid of all these other albums and revert to just storing photos in my camera roll?

You have to connect the iPad to the Mac and deselect the photos in the Photos tab of iTunes and follow that with a sync in order to remove the photos.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Select your iPad from Devices in the upper right or in the left sidebar of iTunes, if the sidebar is enabled.
Click on the Photos tab in the iTunes window on the right.
Uncheck all of the albums and videos that you want to remove under the Sync Photos from heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes.
If you want to remove all photos, uncheck the "Sync Photos From" heading and then click on Apply. If you can't see the sidebar, go to View>Show sidebar from the iTunes menu at the top.

  • How do I get my wife's photos and video from her iCloud to my iPad?

How do I get my wife's photos and video from her iCloud to my iPad. She no longer has an iDevice and I want to retrieve some really sentimental photos and videos of my grandson. I've logged on to her iCloud account on my iPad, but don't know what to do next.
    Thanks
    Tony

Her camera roll photos and videos would be included in her backup.  Restoring her backup to the iPad should recover them.
Start by creating a current backup of your iPad that you can restore your data from later.  It's faster if you do this on your computer using iTunes; if you can't, create a backup in your iCloud account.  If you can back up to your computer, do this by connecting the iPad to your computer, opening iTunes and going to File>Devices>Back Up.  Then go to File>Devices>Transfer Purchases.
Then erase the iPad and restore her iCloud backup as explained here: https://support.apple.com/kb/ph12521.  When it's done, import the recovered photos and videos to your computer as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083.
Then erase the iPad again and restore the backup you made earlier, either from iTunes or from iCloud depending on where you backed it up.
If you want the photos back on the iPad, put them in a folder and sync them to your iPad by selecting the folder on the Photos tab of your iTunes sync settings and syncing.  If you want to videos back on your iPad, import them to your iTunes library (File>Add to Library), then sync them to your iPad from the Movies tab of your iTunes sync settings.  You will then find them in the Home Movies section of the Videos app on your iPad.  Just so you are aware, photos that you sync to your iPad can only be removed later by syncing them off your iPad (by deselecting the folder on the Photos tab and syncing again).  They can't be deleted on the iPad itself.

  • Importing photos and videos from iphone to PC

So, is there a way to import just certain pictures and videos? I just need one video uploaded to my PC to transfer to a USB for class, and I dont want to import the thousands of photos I have just to get to that one video. Incredibly frustrating! and I noticed the DCIM folder doesn't have the videos in them ever since the ios 7 update, that was one way I could just drag a photo or video on my laptop without importing all my photos. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

    Hello KristineS79,
This can be done by disabling Photo syncing in iTunes, then resyncing the phone.
To delete synced photos and videos from your device
In iTunes, click the Device button in the upper right corner (or in the left pane if you have the Sidebar enabled). (If viewing the iTunes Store, click the Library button in the upper-right corner first.)
Click the Photos tab in the resulting window.
Choose "Selected albums" and deselect the albums or collections you want to delete.
Note: To delete all synced photos, deselect "Sync Photos from" and, when asked, click "Remove photos."
    Click Apply.

  • Pleas a step by step instruction for downloading photos and videos from verizon palm pre to pc. Thank you.

Post relates to: Pre 2 p102eww (Verizon)

    1. Hook your phone to your computer via the USB cable provided.  Choose "USB Mode" on the phone when the connection is made.
    2. Open Windows Explorer or My Computer, and find the phone.  View the folders on the phone.
    3. Look for a folder called "DCIM" and inside it "100PALM".  This is where your photos and videos live.
    4. Copy them to your computer.
    5. As with any USB device, remember to "Eject" the phone (from right-clicking on the phone in Windows Explorer or My Computer) or stop the device using the "Safely remove Hardware" button in the bottom right tool tray in Windows.

  • HT201302 I deleted my photos from my i phone thinking they would be on my i pad, they are no where i can't find them anywhere how can i retrieve my photos and videos? anyone help.

Can I retrieve my deleted photos and videos somehow?  I deleted my photos from my iphone thinking they would be on my ipad.  Now all of my photos and videos are gone some one please help.

    Hello queen cash
If you have a back up either in iTunes or in iCloud before you deleted the pictures, then you can restore that back up back on your iPhone. Also note you will not have anything that you have currently on your iPhone, as it will remove the current data and put what the back up had on it. If you where using iCloud and using Photo Stream, make sure you are on Wi-Fi and have closed out the Camera app as it will prevent it from uploading the photos.

  • Help transferring photos and video from broke phone!!!!

I have a Siii that was recently dropped in the toilet by my 2 year old. I am trying to get my pictures and video off of it. My screen doesn't let me swipe it. I have been using svoice to make calls and texts till my new devices comes in from Asurion. I have tried connecting it through usb on both my window laptop and mac. It will not read it. I tried Kies air but it won't pick up my device!!! If I can't do this can I take it in to get Verizon to pull all the photos and videos off of it?

I know its frustrating having a phone get water damage Helpbrokenphone! I know it can be more frustrating not to be able to get pictures & videos from it. Ann154 gave a great tip! Its a good idea to let your phone sit in uncooked rice for a few hours, or even a day. Its best to remove back, battery, & SD card, place them all in rice separately. This could help, but its not guaranteed. Also, does the phone have a removable SD card with the media on it? If so, you may be able to retrieve it by putting into another phone, or PC to transfer data. Are you able to view any of your pictures on the phone? If so, you may be able to take into store to transfer, but its best to call local store to see if they can. For closest store, please select following link: http://bit.ly/3SdsA The phone number will also be provided so you can call ahead.

  • How to upload photos and videos from Optimize Phone Storage mode.

I switched to Optimize Phone Storage (instead of Download and Save Originals) in photo settings. I want to transfer all of my photos and videos from my phone to my macbook, but they don't show up when I plug in my phone. If I switch back to Download and Save, it looks like more space is used on my phone (so I assume it has downloaded the photos and videos that were being stored online), but they still don't show up when I plug my phone in!

It allows you to copy the photos from a digital camera or iPhone to a folder on your Mac. You can see the photos on your device and select those you want to copy.
If this works, you can use iPhoto to import the pictures from that folder afterwards.
Transfer images, video clips, and MP3 sounds to your computer from many cameras and devices that contain a camera, such as your iPhone. Once you transfer the items, you can delete them from the device.
Connect your device to your computer, then turn the device on.If the device is locked with a passcode, enter it.
In Image Capture, select the device in the Devices list.
Use the buttons at the bottom of the Image Capture window to view the thumbnails as a list or as icons to change the size of the thumbnails, or to rotate or delete images.
From the Import To pop-up menu, choose where to save the images or which app to use to open the image.
To import only some of the photos, select those photos, then click Import. To import all the photos, click Import All.Choose AutoImporter from the “Connecting this [device] opens” pop-up menu to transfer images from a device to your computer whenever you connect it to your computer.
Select “Delete after Import” to remove the items from the device after transferring them to your computer. You can also select individual items on your device, then press the Delete key on your keyboard.

Please Help!!! My misuse will kill me if find out that we have no more videos from our honeymoon...
You may need to prepare yourself for a "World of Hurt" from your wife...
Since the average 0.9 megapixel JPEG photo file of normal graphic complexity stored at a high quality compression setting is 125-135 KBs in size, I would have to assume any QT video files you created of more than a fraction of a second in duration were most likely saved as "reference" files to only be 50-150 KBs. Basically, a reference file is q QT (MOV) file that tells a video player how to play data that is still stored in its original source file container(s). For instance, you could trim and merge a number of files together and save the result as a "reference" file that takes up very little room on your hard drive. Or, you could post fles to a server and create a "reference" file that is small enough to be sent as an email attachment that plays the uploaded data on someone else's computer as long as they are connected to the Internet. Unfortunately, for these reference files to work, all of the resources referenced within the file must continue to exist in their proper locations in order to be found and played by the reference. Since you did not indicate what "but they won't play" really means here or how you actually "moved" your iPhoto library files to the external drive, I can only make some "educated guesses" at this point. (BTW: for future reference, iPhoto has a built-in function that allows you to copy your library to one or more back-up locations and then connect to them by default when iPhoto opens or switch source libraries at will within the opened application.)
If you created reference files and saved them to an external drive, you should be getting an error message telling you the app needs to know where the source files are located so the reference file can re-connect to the resource data. If the original files were also saved, then simple navigate to the source files in oder to tell the app where they are now located. If the source files were deleted as part of the reformatting process, then you are up the proverbial creek whithout a paddle with little or no hope of doing anything about this issue. (I.e., reformatting and then re-installing a system drive usually means you would have little hope of recovering the specific "lost" data you want as there is always a good chance that some of the data segments were overwritten during the process.)

  • Can I send Edited Photos and Video from Lightroom 5 to Premiere 11?

I am new to Lightroom 5 and love the product. Can I export edited Photos and Video from Lightroom to Premiere Elements 11? I need more flexibility than Lightroom offfers. I want to mix Photos then Videos with different music files and create a DVD.  Thank You...Rory...

Also, can I load the Lightroom itself onto an external hard drive and keep all my images off my laptop? If I edit them, do the edits remain on my laptop regardless of where the originals reside. I think that's the issue that I'm running into with Aperture:  edits stay on my laptop even though originals are on an external HD.
Your photos can be on any hard disk, internal or external or network. If they are stored on an external hard disk, then when you import them into Lightroom, you select the ADD option and the photo will remain on your external hard disk. The edits are stored in your Lightroom catalog (as opposed to "remain on my laptop"). Once you import photos into Lightroom, you no longer want to manage them (move, copy, delete) using your operating system. You do all photo management in Lightroom.
If you transfer the photos properly, your edits, cropping, metadata, etc. will transfer to Lightroom, but I will leave the details to some expert on Aperture.
If I could offer some advice, I don't think you want to just transfer SOME of your photos to Lightroom. In my opinion, you want ALL of your photos managed by Lightroom, and not some in application 1 and some in application 2. This makes your life much easier when trying to find your photos, you don't have to think "Is this photo in Lightroom or is this in Aperture?"  (Note: this doesn't mean you have to import all the photos from Aperture into Lightroom in one HUGE operation; you can certainly do the importing in manageable sized groups)

  • Deleting photos and videos from my iCloud

I updated to IOS 8.1 today. I turned on iCloud photo library. Before I did that I had 9.5g free of 20g. After I turned it on I have 15g free?!  It's taking forever to upload my photos and videos. But I also want to see what's in my cloud so I could delete things if I no longer want them in my cloud. Any help would be great thanks

Connect your phone to your computer and backup the camera roll to it. Use iPhoto on your Mac to move the files off the device so you can then remove them from the phone.
iCloud doesn't backup anything unless you tell it to and it may require you purchase extra storage space for your data.

  • Transferring photos and videos from iphone onto macbook

    Hi
This may sound like a completely basic issue but i can't for the life of me work out how to transfer photos and videos onto my macbook. I can easily put them on iphoto but i don't really want to put them there as i keep all my photos under the normal photos folder. When I plug it in it just opens iphoto though and doesn't give me the option to put them anywhere else. When i used to have a windows pc and plugged my phone in it asked me if i wanted to open and view files, then you would just drag them into whatever folder on your pc you wanted them in. But there doesn't seem to be a similar system on the mac. does anyone have any ideas? it's probably something very simple but i just can't work it out.

With a Mac, you can use iPhoto for importing photos from any digital camera including importing photos and videos from the iPhone's Camera Roll and if you use iPhoto for photo storage and management, which sure makes it easier than doing this the Windows way and manually managing photo storage - manually creating folders for select photos, etc., or you can use the Image Capture application for this which is located in your Applications folder.
iPhoto includes an option via iPhoto preferences to launch automatically when any digital camera is connected and the Image Capture application should include the same.
