Removing scratches on the screen

Well I just got my case for my iPod, but there are some scratches on my screen already. They are not deep as I cannot feel them with my finger or fingernails, but they are visibile. Are there any solutions out there to fix this, such as polishing compounds or anything much like I use on my car?

http://todd.dailey.info/archives/2005/09/27/restore-your-ipod-nano-to-new-condit ion-with-a-4-can-of-brasso/
There's a link about the Brasso. Step by step tutorial on how to not ruin your ipod with Brasso haha. It can ruin it, you just have to be careful. I've used it before and it worked fine. Here's just a few tips to follow so you don't ruin your ipod since it can easily ruin it.
-Test it in a small corner first.
-Take your time.
-Don't push down too hard.
-A little goes a long way.
-Careful around the clickwheel
I recommend a microfiber cloth because it is smoother than a paper towel. When I used brasso on mine I rubbed it in for about 15-20 mins and a few times in that timeframe I would stop a couple times for 20 seconds and let the brasso dry/sink in and apply a little more and continue rubbing. It worked fine for me so I hope it works fine for you. And lastly all you do is just wipe it off with a clean area of the cloth you're using.
On bad thing I did have was I didn't want to waste the little microfiber cloth I had (all I had was a small 2x2 inch square of it) I used a reg. paper towel for the back. It sure cleaned off all the grime on the back but it left behind tiny tiny tiny swirling scratches on the back. It's not a big deal to me but it might be to other people so I'd use microfiber the whole way around. Hope this helps..
Brasso works fine. Everyone who says it ruined their ipod is because they did it WRONG and didn't read the tutorial or get tips on how to do it. I have a black ipod, i'd be careful on using it on a white ipod because I heard it turns it a yellow-ish color, but then I've heard people say it didn't on their white ipod. I guess it's just whoever did it correctly.
I'd say go for it.

Call Apple Care and ask them if your computer is still under warranty.

    Hello HernanOtt,
Depends on where you have it serviced.  Here are Apple's repair quotes.

You would probably save a lot of money by having a 3rd party repair company do the job for you instead.  Just do a simple Google search for iPod repair and you'll get a plethora of results.

  • Best way to remove smudges off the screen?

    My question's self-explanatory.
Obviously it would be best that I keep my hand clean at all times, but sometimes that proves difficult. So what's the best/safest way to remove screen smudges? Cheers.

A guy at a camera store showed me this trick. Take a strip of scotch tape, the frosty looking kind, and lay it across the iPhone screen... then pull the tape up. Pulls smudges, oils and dirt off the screen. Repeat as many times as needed to traverse the entire surface. Works better/ easier than anything else I have tried.
                                    iPhone 4, iOS 4
Best suggestion here. Really works!  Scotch "Magic" tape stickiness just right.  Removes smudge and grease.  Use Magic tape and then finish with micro-cloth.

Gorilla glass has never been claimed to be scratchproof.  Resistant, but not "proof".  I am afraid there is little you can do about it but pay for a screen replacement or out of warranty replacement phone from Apple.

  • Scratches on the screen

Despite how careful I was, my iPhone 4 has managed to get scratches on the front. Supposedly, it is supposed to be scratch proof... I have never dropped it or anything, the scratches must be from being in a bag or something. I there any chance Apple would fix or replace it for free? I recently read online about a guy who went into the Apple store for the exact same problem, and they replaced it for him. Free! Or does anyone know of a scratch remover? This is on the front screen (glass)
    Thanks

    Yes, really.
    From your link:
    "scratch resistant "
Note - "scratch proof" is not mentioned once, anywhere, at all.
Scratch proof, means that it cannot scratch.  This has never been claimed at all.  No glass is scratch proof.
Scratch resistant means  that it is more resistant to scratches than untreated glass.

  • How to fix a scratch on the screen...?

    Hey Folks,
While I was at the airport yesterday - some smart *** bumped into me and dropped my iphone on the ground (face first) and I got a scratch on the sreen maybe 2cm long and .5mm width (same depth, I would say - sorry for being very technical)...
Now when I turn on my iphone and when the light some on the screen there is a multicolor reflection coming from this scratch, which is super annoying cause when you are looking on your screen you can notice this multicolor reflection at all times.
So - how can I find a solution to this? Is there any? Or I just gotta live with the fact that I have a noticeable (and super annoying scratch on my screen).
    Thanks,
    -Joey

What did you use and how did you use it? Sounds like you do auto body work. Can you give the details and instructions on how to accomplish this.
No I'm not in the auto body biz, I do make detailing products though and my hobby is customs and hot rods.
I use a very high end polish that's not found in stores but can be bought online or by phone. The maker is Zaino Bros... http://www.zainostore.com These polishes and glazes form a very tough protective coat on high end finishes. The cars in this link http://dftowel.com/lsc are treated with Zaino so this should give you an idea what can be achieved.
To protect the phone I first lightly wiped it down with a dilution of Dawn dish detergent which removes all greases and oils that may be on the surface. Just dampen a sponge and wipe the surface.
I then polished and buffed with Zaino Z-2. This was done three times front and back.
For the final coat I lightly applied Zaino CS which is a hard glaze and allowed it to dry for an hour before using the phone.
The buffing towel used is a DF Concours Towel http://dftowel.com. (DON'T USE AN OLD T-SHIRT!!! IT WILL SCRATCH)
These steps will form a very hard protective coat on the phone and yet it is optically clear. Fingerprints, dust, smudges, whatever just wipe right off.

  • Removing scratches from display screen

I know they advertised this stuff on TV that magically fills in the scratches on your glasses...do you think it will work on the screen? Do you have a better product to remove them?

I find it hilarious when persons such as yourself just make things up in complete oblivion. The warranty does N-O-T cover scratches. And... How did he get scratches on his screen, you ask? Because the material that covers the front of the iPod checks in at about a 1 on the hardness scale.
To the OP... I suggest you Google...
    Ice Cream
    Apple Sauce
    iKlear
    Brasso
    All four should work fine.
After removing the scratches, I highly suggest you purchase a screen cover...
The Invisible Shield is known to do wonders.
    Good luck.

  • How can I remove marks from the screen?

I inadvertently touched the screen with the tip of a black permanent marker, and now have 2 little black dots spoiling the view! Is there anything I can (safely) use to get rid of them?

    YES there is a solution!
I had this happen several years back to a new laptop. Someone borrowed my laptop at a business meeting to do a powerpoint presentation and had a permanent sharpie in their hand while they presented. In reaching over to press the "next" button during the presentation, they accidentally wrote on the screen. This put about a 1" blue mark across my screen. I totally freaked out!
Anyway, in researching a solution, I discovered that there is a chemical solution used to remove permanet marker from photographic negatives without damaging/discoloring the surface or coating. I had a recommendation to try this as it would not damage the laptop screen. It worked great!!! The permanent marker wiped off as if it were a whiteboard. In the years using this laptop, I never noticed the mark again and never noticed any sort of discoloration or damage to the surface or screen coating.
The chemical is used is a photographic emulsion cleaner called PEC-12. If you do a google search you'll find it all over the Internet. You may also be able to get it (or a reasonable substitute) at a local professional camera shop. You'll also see wipes for sale with these, which I also purchased. It's a lint free cloth that you spray the cleaner on and then wipe the film (or screen).
I hope this helps you out.

  • My new iPad have some scratches on the screen and a little crack, will I be able to get a replacement?

My iPad overheated and it was so hot that i loosen it out of my hand and dropped to the floor, causes few scratches n a minor crack
will I get a replacement for that?

Without AppleCare+, no, not even a free repair.  You dropped it, so it's on your dime now.  You wouldn't expect free repairs to your car after crashing it into a pole, would you?
Also, note that Apple may not be enthusiastic about repairing it, because a dropped iPad may have other issues beyond a broken screen.  Other internal components may have been damaged.  Buying a replacement may be the best way of getting back a reliably-functioning iPad.  But you could also go with a cheaper repair from a third-party company that will just replace the screen and let you worry about whether or not that repair is sufficient.  That kind of repair voids the warranty, but it's already void thanks to the damage anyway.

  • Does removable plastic on the screen hinder the receiver volume?

I would like to keep the plastic on the phone to protect the screen but after making my first call with the volume up, the call volume was too low. Is it the plastic hindering the audio?

Yes it does interfere with the sound, I thought the same thing, you need to remove the plastic for everything to work right.
