Removing Solaris 10 upgrade 1

Hi All,
Recently upgraded Solaris 10 03/05 vertion to Solaris 01/06. How to put the system back to 03/05.
Robin

once you upgrade, i dont think you can revert back. If you want old version of solaris, you have to install it fully. dont you think it sounds logical also...?
If there are any other answers, please let me know.

Hi, I'm attemting to upgrade Solaris 2.7 (11/99) to Solaris 8 (1/01) in a Sun E450 and I get an error. Now I describe the steps that I follow:
    - I insert the CD 1 of 2 of Solaris Software 8 (1/01) and I do an Stop+A with "boot cdrom"
    - We insert geographical region, the network configuration...
    - When it asks for an Actual or Initial installation I select Actual and it shows something like this:
" The version of Solaris (solaris 2.7) of the segment c0t0d0s0 can't upgrade.

I verified from console that c0t0d0s0 is mounted in "a/" and then I've done an fsck and the partition not contents any errors
    This is my "vfstab":

  • Solaris 10 upgrade - Major problems - PLEASE HELP

I have a v880 running Solaris 10 11/06 (U3) which I am trying to upgrade to the latest Solaris 8/11 (U10) release without much success. I am simply using the Solaris Installation Program and booting from DVD and running the upgrade option. However the process fails with the following error:
The selected Software exceeds the available disk space.
The Solaris operating environment selected to upgrade contains
a metadevice. Disk Space Re-allocation is not allowed.
Please do one of the following:
Deselect some software to be installed.
Choose another version of Solaris to upgrade. (If available)
Go back and select Initial Install.
Exit the installation.<Press ENTER to continue>
A df -h shows that / has 22Gb free, swap space is 3.1Gb free, /var has 7.1Gb free and /usr 3.1Gb free. All the documentation seems to show that that is ample space. I'm relatively new to Unix and Solaris so be gentle with me if I'm doing something stupid. Many thanks to all. An initial install is not an option as I need to keep the setup as is.

It's probably /usr that it's whining about. It's not very exact when calculating space and 3.1G is not ample space these days. This is why I put everything in the / partition anymore. Don't have to worry about this crap down the line...
You might try copying some stuff off of /usr (if you can find it) and try again.

No specific ideas but take a look at this trouble-shooting article.
You could try trashing the preferences again as described in it and if that does no good it might be worth uninstalling it exactly as described and reinstalling .

  • How to remove Solaris 9 to install Solaris 8 on Sparc?

Okay, I'm fairly new to this. I've got some software compiled to run on Solaris 8, not 9, so what would be the best way to remove the existing Solaris 9 installation to make way for 8?
The box is an Ultra10 elite 3d, 1 hard drive, 512MB RAM, 440Mhz.
    Thanks in advance.

Why do you think you have to remove Solaris 9 just because the software is compiled for Solaris 8 ?
Have you tried running the software on Solaris 9 ?

  • Sun Solaris 10,Upgrade 8 or higher,having issues with VxFS,for Oracle 11gr2

A while ago, we tried doing a prototype upgrade of our main Oracle 10g db to Oracle 11gr2.
The OS on which our Oracle 10g is running is Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 4.
According to Oracle 11gr2 documentation, we need Sun Solaris 10, upgrade 6 or higher for Oracle 11g2.
The filesystem we are using is VxFS, Veritas File System.
According to our system administrator, we had issues , making Sun Solar 10, upgrade 8 , work with the VxFS filesystem.
I was wondering if anybody is running Oracle 11g2 on Sun Solaris 10 upgrade 6 or higher with VxFS file system.
At present, our Oracle db upgrade project is on a hold, because of the above issue. So your help on this , can really help us in figuring out if there is an issue between VxFS filesystem and Sun Solaris 10 OS.
    Thanks
    Ashish

    Hi Ashish,
We are not running Veritas Cluster file system.
We tried moving our Oracle 10g r2 db on ZFS ,before doing the upgrade and performance on ZFS was worst.
ZFS has certain memory parameter setting. If you did not configure that then ZFS will eat your complete system memory.
My system administrator, has gotten a copy of Solaris 10 upgrade 9 and will try that with VxFS.
I was curious to find out if folks are running Oracle 11g on Sun Solaris 10 with VxFS file system and if they had experienced any issue. If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.
Recently i installed Oracle database 11.2.0.2 on one of my test server. I have created two databases - one on ZFS and another on ASM.
    Refer:
    http://appsdbaworkshop.blogspot.com/2010/10/installation-of-11202-on-oracle-solaris.html
We dont have any performance issues. We are testing it for the performance benchmarks on both of the filesystem.
If you can Install Vxfs on Oracle Soalris 10 U9, then according to me there sholudn't be any limitations for an oracle database.

  • Solaris SPARC upgrade failing

I am trying to apply a Solaris 10 upgrade release to my E450 server, but get the following error during the install process:
"Could not reinitialize system state, please exit installer and try again"
Retrying the upgrade gives the same error.
The current release on the server is 10 1/06 and I am trying to move this on to 10 11/06.
Anyone got any idea what it is complaining about, the upgrade process worked OK on my V480/V490 servers!.

Obviously Sun (excuse me, Oracle) does not intend to support the solaris-10/sparc/firefox-3.6 combination. Firefox 3.6 requires the NPAPI and/or NPRuntime interfaces to java, but oracle does not provide the new "libnpjp2.so" java plugin with the jre-6u18-sparc-solaris java download.
A search at www.oracle.com does not turn up any support announcement about this. You have to learn it the hard way. :(
If you want to continue to use sparc-solaris, downgrade to firefox-3.5 so you can use the old libjavaplugin_oji.so module. Otherwise run Linux or Mac OS X to stay in the unix camp.

Looks like it hasn't touched OCR or Voting disk yet. You can fix the problem.. ie enable RAC and make sure ar is in path and re-run the script.
Make sure that 10gCRS is good.. If everyhing is all right with 10g.. you can probably bounce it and verify again.. if its all good, you can uninstall the grid home using OUI.

How can I remove the iPhoto upgrade to my iMac OSX 10.2.8? Can the upgrade return my library?

With respect, we'll need rather more detail than that.
In general, you can only roll back an upgrade to a library with a back up. No back up, no roll back.

  • Solaris Live Upgrade

I didnt find a specific place to place this topic, so maybe you can replace.
I read a lot about Solaris Live Upgrade, but I'd would like to know if I can copy a BE from one computer to another over network via NFS.
Or if there is another software that can make a image of my system and replace to the others computers (they are all the same), so I will dont need to configure all of them.
    Thx for any help.

    Thanks for answering.
I read about JumpStart installation, but is it possible to install a customized image, but not with just the partition, packages and patches selected. I wanted to share a whole system configured. For example, the DNS, IP, User's account settings, etc.
Because, I just found a way to share the installation image with the selected packages and patches. But you will need to configure the files of the packages later in the clients.
    Is it possible?

  • Solaris 10 Upgrade no Graphical Environments

I just upgraded my little Ultra 10 (300Mhz, 256MB, 40GB disk) from Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. I basically selected "everything" and after hours of feeding CDs it finished and I just get the console login. I turned on the login server. Reboot. No CDE. I tried runing the session manager from the command line and it chunks away a little while and just comes back to the command line.
During the install it did some windows on the screen. Do I have to go back to Solaris 9 to get this thing doing graphical interfaces again?
Geez Linux is so much easier!

    Hello John,
I'm pretty sure that even with 256MB of the memory a graphical setup is available.
If cost is an issue, try to get 128MB modules (501-2654). These are higher profile and <u>not</u> certified for the Ultra 5/10. They even fit in the Ultra 5 after removing the floppy mounting bracket. These modules are inexpensive to get from second hand (e.g. eBay).
    The modules are for mid-range and high-end servers (E3x00,E4x00,E5x00,E6x00 x=0 or 5, and E10K).
Maybe a reconfiguration boot (<b>boot -r</b>) resolves the issue.
Have you tried to reset the configuration with <b>sys-unconfig</b>. There are only a few settings you have to re-enter.

  • Solaris 10 upgrade with mirrored OS (meta-device) partition

I will going to upgrade my host from Solaris 10 5/08 (U5) to Solaris 10 10/09 (U8). The installation media is a cdrom.
On my host, I used Solaris Volume Manager (SVM) to mirror /, /var, and swap.
    My Question is:
Before the upgrade, should I just need to break one side of mirrors which will be sufficient for the upgrade process, or should I convert them back to physical device?
    How should I proceed?
    Thanks.

    chewr wrote:
Firstly, Thanks for your answer. I hope that it will work as you said.
But I am thinking that the OS upgrade process will boot from the cdrom, and it will only look for physical device to do the upgrade. That's the reason I am concerning whether the OS, which booted from cdrom, will able to see the meta-device?Solaris 10 boot media should be able to see and recognize the metadevices. Previous versions could not.
On the other hand, if I need to remove all meta-device for the upgrade, will data be safe and intact on the physical device when the OS booted from cdrom?Safe? If you do reconfigure the system to not use any SVM devices for the OS, then yes the data is still there. I'm not sure what you're asking, or how the data might be at risk.

  • Is solaris 8 to solaris 10 upgrade possible

    Hello,
I read on a post not on Sun that you have to upgrade to solaris 9 from 8 before upgrading to 10. Is that true? I do not know if I am doing a live upgrade so consider this question apart from live upgrade.
    Thank you

What do you mean by your statement "and then if it works then place the new layout onto the primary disk and recreate the mirrors.". Do you mean physically put the second disk in the primary disk slot and a new disk in the second slot and build mirrors?
No. To perform a LiveUpgrade while replacing disks, you'd do these steps:
    - Break the mirrors on the secondary disk, and remove any meta-databases stored there
    - Replace the secondary disk physically with the new one
    - Partition the secondary disk with your new desired slice layout
    - Run LiveUpgrade and install the new OS and filesystems onto the secondary disk
    - Reboot and test the new OS
    - If everything goes well, then add your meta-database copies to the secondary disk
    - Remove the old boot environment (BE)
    - Remove mirrors from the primary disk
    - Remove the meta-databases from the primary disk
    - Physically replace the primary disk
    - Copy the partition table from your secondary disk to the primary disk
    - Recreate all mirrors
    - Setup the root device for booting, and test that as well.
It's a lot of steps, but it should be straight-forward and it's documented quite well in the LiveUpgrade manuals.

  • Solaris 10_u8 upgrade slow down mysql store procedure

    Hi,
Recently we upgraded the following and found out that MySQL store procedure takes more than 40 times longer to run:
    Old configurations:
    - Hardware T5120
    - Solaris 10_u4 8/7
    - MySQL 5.1.30
    - Primary service domain has 8 ldoms, primary has 4 cpus and 2G mem
    - Ldom mgr 1.0.3
    - Database server sits on LDOM2 with 12 vcpus and 8G mem, two image file disk export from primary, basically the whole 2nd disk raid 1 for LDOM2, one 15G for OS and other 100G for database
    - Store procedure only takes 0.87 seconds to finish
    New configurations:
    - everything is same as above, except I patched the primary to kernel patch 142900-02, then the mysql store procedure in LDOM2 takes about 35 seconds to finish
I have tried all different kind of combinations, from the above configuration I think there might be some kernel parameters settings changed since the upgrade but not sure what are they. If any one know or has some kind issues please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello.
Patch 142900-02 is old. You can try install 142909-17. This patch obsolete 142900.
For rest you can remove patch 142900-02 and check performance.
