Removing the ibooks harddrive to make it an external harddrive

Hi there, recently my ibook died (the motherbaord went on it and its too expensive to fix) and I was thinking of removing the ibooks harddrive to make it into an external harddrive, as the hardrive in question has somethings that I need and also it would be usefull to have. Is this possible to do?
Thanks.
K.

A few more details:
It died quite suddenly. I was using it as I usually do, when the ibook crashed (which hardly ever happens) so I restarted it only for it to crash as the apple sign appeared. The screen then started to turn a bright white after which it started to darken. I tried once or twice after that and generally it would start up and then crash after a minute or two. I then sent it off to get fixed and the company informed me that the motherboard was gone (Later I read on the slip of paper that I got back with the ibook that it was the Logic board)and that it would cost 893 Euro's to fix (including labour & tax), which would be about a thousand US dollars.

Is it possible to remove the iBooks Author watermark?

If you're loaded with money, Adobe's Acrobat Pro might let you removed the watermark. If you're like most of us, you may find PDF Pen or PDF Pen Pro more reasonably priced. You can find out more here:
    http://www.smilesoftware.com/PDFpen/
PDF Pen and PDF Pen Pro offer about 90% of the features of Adobe Acrobat Pro at about 10-20% of the price. And I find them much easier to use.
I tried with my copy of PDF Pen Pro and I was able to erase the "iBooks Author" footer (if that is the watermark you mean) in about a minute by selecting it with the rectangle select tool and erasing. (Putting a white box over the watermark might also work.) But you'll have to do that manually on every page.

  • Help, I can't remove the iBook battery

I have an old but reliable iBook G3; works great, no problems. Yesterday I upgraded the hard drive to a 100 GB Hitachi-Travelstar. Replacement was successful. IBook runs great. The only problem I have is the battery won't come off even when the latch is in the unlock position! Help! Is there some way or some tool or trick to get it off? I know that someday I will need a new battery.
    Thanks for your help, Martin
    iBook G3   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Yes, I've seen that reference. That's step 1 in the hard drive replacement. The battery won't come off or pop out. Something's holding it. Its not the latch, because I can "feel" and hear it go in and out when I turn the notched thingy. Also, the battery has a "bounce" to it in the unlock position. Somethings holding it in. The icon battery (in the menu bar) shows an X (not being charged when the notch is in the unlock position, but starts charging in the lock position. I'm wondering if its the plastic caps in the greasy springs located in the battery housing. I'm getting worried since it takes longer for the battery to charge up and it doesn't ever get to full "Charged" but remains at 95 - 99% While I've read that this is normal, it also takes a lot faster to discharge, but that could be to the newer power requirements of the new 100 gig drive. But then again, there could be a short somewhere. Does anyone have any recommendation on how to free a stuck battery without damaging either the iBook or the battery? Help!

  • Remove the new line character

    Hello All,
I have a CLOB in my database. That CLOB contains new line characters. Now I have to remove the new lines and make the whole CLOB object as a string without the new lines.
Can anybody help in that matter ?.
    Thanks and regards,
    Sachin

Check this code for file instead of CLOB and reply.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.io.FileInputStream;
    import java.io.InputStream;
    public class CLOBCheck {
         public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {

  • HOW CAN I BACKUP ANOTHER EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE INCASE THE MAIN GOES BAD.

I want to know how to use the automator to schedule lets say everyother day incase my main backup harddrive goes out.
I am using timemachine on it along with alot of pictures and videos on the first external harddrive and i have another external harddrive beside it that i want it to backup the same info the first one has.
I hope this makes sense to yall out there please help.

I suggest that you actually make a different type of backup - a bootable clone backup:
    Backup Software Recommendations
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    Synk Pro
    Tri-Backup
Others may be found at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on backup and restore.  Also read How to Back Up and Restore Your Files.

  • Why is it impossible to remove the iPod touch screen without damaging it so that it cant be re attached?

My iPod touch heaphone jack broke for what must have been the 12th time for no reason, so I decided I was going to try and permanetly fix it. I saw a post on here saying that if you remove the screen and then make sure some wires are connexted properly, that you can fix it long term instead of having to hold the headphone cable in a strange position. So I remove the screen (which I have done before to replace the touch screen) and it pretty much all falls apart in my hands, the home button, the rubber sealing the outside of the screen and the actual screen all come apart, along with many small pieces of plastic. Now my iPod is no more that a paperweight with a useless LCD screen on it. Even if I did get a new screen, the headphone jack would still be unusuable and there would be no point.

I guess 4g is more complicated than 2g/3g. In 2g/3g it was way easier cause there are videos on youtube that anyone can do. Was your headjack stuck in the porthole? That is what happened to my sister's iPod. but my dad somehow got it out.

  • Have airport extreme, square model, have a external harddrive to use as back up(formated for mac)hooked it up to the usb port in back. can't find it on my computer. what am i doing wrong

have the airport extreme, square model. have a external harddrive formated for mac hooked up to the usb port in back.
i can't find the harddrive on the computer for back up in timemachine. what am i doing wrong?

First, if you are not aware, you need to know that Apple does not officially support Time Machine backups to a drive at the USB port of the AirPort Extreme.
That may be part of the problem here, so if you want to continue to try this, you need to understand that there are no guarantees of success.
Some users do seem to be able to make this work, but most have some problems and some....like me....have nothing but problems when they try this.
If you want to continue to try this, the first thing to verify is that the drive is formatted specifically in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Have you verified that the drive is formatted correctly by connecting it directly to your Mac and using Disk Utility to check?
Some drives that are advertised as being "compatible for Mac" are not formatted correctly in Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Time Machine has no chance of success unless the drive is first formatted correctly.
I would also ask that you consider leaving the drive connected to your Mac for Time Machine backups. That will be supported, and is a far more reliable way to keep backups if your data is important to you.
Next, we need to know what operating system you are running on your Mac. If you do not know, click the Apple icon in the upper left corner of the screen and then click About This Mac.  Post back with the OS X Version number that you see there.

  • Move iPhoto Library to external harddrive

    Good evening all...
I've done some searching and see a few different possibilites for using an Alternate iPhoto Library on an external harddrive. I'm hoping for opinions on the best option for what I wish to accomplish.
In my line of photography, I tend to focus on a specific event and then backup that event to remove it from my local hard disk (archive it if you will). In the past, I have done this by burning to CD, but now have a pretty decent sized external harddrive that I would like to take advantage of.
After reading some other threads, I have noticed that some folks choose to relocate their iPhoto Library to a external harddrive and set it as the working iPhoto directory. I am wondering if this is a good option for me, as I prefer to keep my local harddrive clean? Is an external harddrive a safe option for primary storage? Chalk my fear of storing locally to years of Windows failures.
If this is a good option for me, could somebody explain the procedures of setting this up? This is my first Mac and I am still somewhat cautious as to how I proceed with things such as this.
If this is a bad option for me, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your time!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   iPhoto 6

Take a look at this Apple KB document: iPhoto: Sharing libraries among multiple users, particularly the screen show regarding ignoring ownership on the external HD. That will avoid problems that might pop up if permissions were turn on and some image file locked you out for some reason. It does happen at times.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Keyboard, trackpad & external harddrive suddenly stopped responding but external mouse will work?

I have a 2007 MacBook, but the harddrive was replace begining on 2011. Ealier today mid-email my keyboard suddenly froze and my cursor dissappeared. The power button still worked so I was able to turn off my computer. When I restarted I had about 3 hours of normal functioning before the same thing happened again. The entire keyboard becomes unresponsive (including the caps lock light that does not light up) and the mouse is no longer visible. I tried connecting an external mouse and this seems to work fine, but I still can't type anything in.
I connected my external harddrive to copy over all my files (incase this was the begining of the end). About two minutes in the light started blinking on the harddrive and i was given the message from the computer saying the harddrive was unplugged... which it was not!
I have restarted the computer a few times, the keyboard and trackpad never come back on, the computer can no longer recongnize any external harddrive or thumbdrive but works fine with the external mouse.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on?
Thank you! I really appreciate your time and any advice you may have.

Make sure it's not something as simple as the battery bulging up and exerting upward pressure on the trackpad, keyboard, and USB / FW ports.
That's what happened to my Macbook and it showed similar symptoms.
I simply took out the battery and let the MacBook rest for a 48 hours.  Then I ran it strictly on the power supply and it ran fine.
At that point I bought a replacement generic battery through Amazon for about $40 including shipping and taxes.  I figured why waste money on the Apple original part if it was that very Apple original battery that went bad and bulged up like a toad?
MacBook has been running just fine for months now, maybe a year.

  • HT203175 itunes on external harddrive will not sync with ipod , settings in itunes are correct

I ran out of space on the harddrive so switched to a external harddrive  but  I cant sync  is this why ?
    Thank you

Well, you'll have to look at this article to see if it will help for the albums getting split up - I have no idea why that would have changed, but see if the "Compilation" checkbox helps.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1468
Those directions are for itunes 7 - in iTUnes 8, the compilation checkbox for multiple items is on the Option tab.
And for the song not going to the ipod, try this for just one song - remove it from your itunes library (but NOT your hard drive!) and then re-add it back into itunes. It might go to the iPod then.
Nobody has ever posted back whether this works, but you're not alone on authorized songs not syncing to your iPod. More and more folks are seeing this since itunes 7, esp with older purchased songs. Newer purchases seem to sync just fine.

  • How to backup Logic Pro songs on external harddrive?

In case of an earthquake or other event that ends up completely ruining my computer and kills Logic Pro, how do I make a backup of the songs I've made on an external harddrive? (Sorry this question may be extremely easy to answer, but I'm new at external harddrives.)
I've bought a portable USC Drive with 120GB. Do I just need to make a copy of the Logic Pro song files and transfer them to this portable drive? Or do I need to load more information about Logic Pro onto it as well? And does my XS key have any involvement in case the my compuer is ruined and I need to extract the song from this portable drive?
    Thanks for any answers!

if ur logic project are not messy u just copy the folder where are all ur logic project to ur external hardrive that's it.the logic key just need to be plug when u launch logic, otherwize the project itself can be place and copy without any problem.now take care if u use some midiinstrument (like exs)that use sample, ucould also copy the exs library in ur external hd.depend if u use the factory sample it's not a problem,as far as u crash ur mac u'll find it back on ur dvd installer, otherwize u can find the exs folder there:
library/application support/logic/ then u v got sampler instrument and exs factory sample .u can both copy it in ur external hd.
that's the quicker way (for me as im organize).
now if u don't have 200 project and u wanna be sure to get everything backing up ,just open each project and save each one as project:
    file/save as project.
u click on copy all ,u choose ur external hd as the location and u click save.then it will pick up all the file u use (active or inactive) in ur arrangement and will copy it where u want..
    hope it's clear.not sure

  • Moving itunes to ad from an external harddrive

i have windows 2000 and recently got an iPod nano 3rd generation. to use my new iPod on my computer i need windows xp. to install it, i need to move everything off of my computer.
i already had about 1000 songs on iTunes from my old iPod, so how do i move iTunes and all of my music to an external herddrive and back? i read the information about moving songs to an external harddrive, but how do i move them onto the new iTunes after my windows xp is installed???
    thank youfor your help,
    Kara

To move the files back, locate where you put them on the external drive, drag the files to the internal drive, and then drag the copies on the internal drive into the open iTunes window. Another option is to drag them directly from the external drive into iTunes followed by using the Consolidate Library command in the Advanced menu.
