Removing the sound of flem in vocal recording

I doubt its possible to remove the sound of flem from a vocal recording, but has anyone attempted it?
One approach might be to use a spectrum analyzer to try to determine which frequencies are in the flem and try to filter them out. Or another approach might be to use a formant analyzer/generator/filter to "purify" the vowels where the flem is occuring. But I don't think Logic has these tools.
Any suggestions? Plugins?
Thanks.

Really simple to get rid of the flem sound. Simply play your sound in a loop. play with a graphic eq untill you find where the annoying 'flemmy' bits are.
then simply compress those particular frequencies (try to be tight), and give it a hard compression - so to start with you should hear all flem...
and then bring the level of the flem down so you don't feel it so much. You might want to put a slower attack on the compressor to make it act like a bit of a deesser - deflemmer.... I rekon my flems at about 800, 400, and 200hz or their about
Other than that all I can suggest is otravin - but otravin can hurt - it does get rid of flem very effectivley.
Actually a formant editor/viewer should be able to get it too... When I was at music school I used this cool program on a mac which allowed you to open up a file in the formant view - then you could simply draw circles around particular formants, and choose to effect only that formant - delete it, enhance it, lower or increase volume - or move it around the pitch spectrum - it was cool you could just draw circles around the individual formants....
I can't remember the name of that audio editor though - do you know the one I mean?

  • How do I remove the sound of a door shutting?

    Hi there,
I am new to auditions and a complete newbie.
I installed the programme because I was told I could remove background noises with it. I have a rather difficult problem. We recorded an interview of a woman, unfortunately, there is a rather loud sound of a door shutting in the background. It's short and loud. Unfortunately, it's not in between words but just when she speaks.
Is there a way to remove this sound/make it less obnoxious?
If you have any suggestions, please give me a step-by-step instruction for beginners.
    Many thanks in advance!

First off make a copy of the audio in case you do something you shouldn't.
Open the the audio file in edit view and 'show the spectral frequency display' (shift D)
Locate the offending sound and using the 'Spot Healing Brush' (B) carefully 'paint' the area
Using this method and depending on all sorts of variables you may get some satisfaction
Just remember that this is destructive editing so once you save the file there is no going back - hence the reason to make a copy

Just wondering ... can you then add other background music ... and not use the audio recorded from the camera at all?
Yes. You can add your own audio either to the background of several clips or "pin" it to a single clip.

  • How can I remove the sound of a bag being crinkled in Soundtrack Pro?

Does anyone have any ideas? I have tried using that surgical spectograph tool to delete it, but then that affects the voices speaking over it.
    Thanks for your help,

    Does anyone have any ideas?
Re-record, cut around it or live with it.
As you have discoved, that kind of noise covers a wide spectrum.
Think of things this way. You are video recording a kids soccer game. As you pan down the field following the action a person walks between you and the field blocking your view of the game momentarily.
When you get home and try to remove the person from the video, you discover once you remove the person, there is nothing left to fill the picture. The camera does not magically see behind people.
The same is true of audio, if two things share the same (or most) frequencies, if you remove the offending element, there is nothing left.

  • How do I remove the sound from a video project and replace with music...?

Hi there to all...I would like to know how you remove the original sound from a movie (using iMovie) so you dont hear it through any music added...?

Select the video clip and open the clip inspector to the video tab. You can set the volume slider to zero.
You can apply this to a bunch of clips at once.
    Do the first one.
    Then Edit/Copy.
Then Select the clips to apply it to by select while holding command key. (or EDIT/SELECT ALL to get all clips)
    Then EDIT/PASTE ADJUSTMENTS/AUDIO ADJUSTMENTS

  • Recording The Sound/Audio

When I use iMovie 09 to make a video it doesn't record the sound and i know for a fact the built in microphone works. What do I need to do to enable it to record the sound again while I'm recording my videos?

    Hi Life93,
What you describe would be possible by recording your video, then removing the audio from it and adding audio from GarageBand once the video is in iMovie (I presume here that you are using iMovie for your video production. Other applications may need different methods.)

  • Can anyone help me figure why there is a popping sound when I move from an iphoto still image to a new video clip?  The sound has been removed from the video clips and there is another soundtrack underneath it all.  Help?

My current project is like many I have created in the past.  I have removed the sound from my video clips and laid another soundtrack under the entire project.  Now, when I add an iphoto still image to the project, when it goes back into video there is a popping sound.  I've never had this happen in the past and have made many projects in the past just like this one.  Any way to troubleshoot this issue?  Thanks so much for your help.

  • How can I change default audio / sound output or remove the displayport audio option?

I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite and while I don't have any of the number of issues that see to accompany that move, I've discovered a different one that is not necessarily related to it, but is irritating.
    2014 Macbook Pro Retina
I use a thunderbolt to displayport (AKA just displayport) cable to attach a Dell monitor to my mac at the desk.
Prior to this update, the mac ignored the display as far as audio was concerned (the Dell does NOT have audio built in).  But now it seems to think it does.
Moreover, it continually switches back to that Sound output in the preferences whenever I plug or unplug an audio source from the audio jack.  This is Annoying!
Is there any  way to either
    1) set the default to prefer the internal speakers / headphones instead of the DP?
    2) remove the Sound output for the DisplayPort connection (which is a false connection since the Dell doesn't actually have AUDIO)
    Thanks much

I found the com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and Com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist, but can't make sense of either enough to feel confident in altering any entries there.  here's the SystemSettings one that seems like it might have something you could change, but...

  • How do I remove the presentation intro?

I can change the intro video image, but I can't remove it entirely, and I need to be able to do this. I also need to remove the sound because I'm trying to transfer a recorded presentation (converted to an MP3) to a Captivate video. When I import that MP3 to the slide, I get the sound before and after the narration. ALL I want is the narration.
You can't clip it from within Presenter - at least not with the scissors icon. Does this mean I need to purchase additional software to be able to edit the MP4 to remove that portion of a video? Or is there some way to disable it in Presenter?
    Thanks!

    Hello,
Which version of Adobe Presenter are you using ?
If you query is about Adobe Presenter 8 Video Creator, then you can use Branding button and choose "None" in Themes.
    Thanks,

  • Opening an existing .swf and removing the music?

I have a site that I've been asked to work on.
its joomla and each page has a .swf on it and it plays an annoying sound.
is there a tool that would let me crack open this swf and remove the music and put it back together again?
    here's the page: http://agrithority.com/
    thanks,

You would have to find a Flash decompiler and use it to create an fla and then edit that fla to remove the sound.
Beyond the ability to make changes the question arises as to whether you have the right to do so.  If you did not create this file then you probably do not own the rights to the file that would allow you to modify it.  You should check with whoever designed the site to see what needs to be done in that regard.

  • Is there a way to completely eliminate the sound clicking feedback noise?

I know there´s an option in the sound window, under sound effects that says ¨Play feedback when volume is changed" but the thing is, with that on, if I hit shift I can hear the sound clicking again, and that's exactly what I don't want (Kind of a dumb idea if you ask me). I work as a sound technician and I play sounds from my mac to the speakers at a theatre, and at times I may need to use the volume on the mac (sometimes the mixer is unavailable). I had never noticed this "play feedback when volume is changed" feature until yesterday, and I'm so used to hitting the shift key SO MUCH that I might do it unconciously at the show, and that's a risk I can't take, so for now I'm keeping the feature enabled, but is there any way to completely remove the sound so I don't run the risk of having that sound click during playback?

Well, like I said, file a feature request with them to address this.
I've actually already done that today for you, since apparently no one ever likes to fill them out and ask for changes that make logical sense.
Bottom line, if you have disabled the sound, stop holding down the shift key when you adjust sound.  Sounds (pun intended) to me like you knew already why this happens, yet you insist on holding down button combinations when you know the final behavior.  In the words of Steve Jobs... "You're holding it wrong."
