Removing transitions from slides

How do you remove a title from a slide in iMovie without deleting the slide/video clip? I've added titles by overlaying them on a clip using the subtitle title, but now can't figure out how to remove the title because titles do not appear as a separate icon unless "over black" is selected.

Just select the clip in which the title appears, and hit "clear". iMovie will delete the last added effect, in this case the title, but will not delete the entire clip.

Is there a way to keep an object stationary from slide to slide

I am using the Push transition from slide to slide, but I want an object to remain stationary from one slide to another. I basically want this object to sit in a layer above the slide and not move with the slide transition. Is this possible?

You can't do that with KN, the main reason being that the "layer" your object would be on is in fact not a layer but a slide; everything which appears in KN has to be on a slide. It can't not be on a slide, because then where would it be?
But you might be able to achieve a similar effect. Make a duplicate of your "stationary object" on the following slide, in the same position, and make your transition a Magic Move. Then, have everything else on your first slide move off to the right, for instance, looking as if you had done a Push transition. Have that stuff move onto the next slide from the left. Play with the timing until it looks right. This may or may not approximate your desired effect, depending on the other content of the slide.

The loading ring is the preloader. It lets the user know that some background activity is happening while he waits. If you remove this, the user might see a blank screen in its place and they may think there is a bug in the output or they have reached the end and close the window.
However if you still want to remove it, you can go to Edit > Preferences > Project > Start and End, and clear the Preloader checkbox.

If I understand you correctly, go to the skin editor (Project, Skin Editor in Captivate 4), select the Playback Control tab, uncheck the Progressbar check box. Leave checked the buttons for play/pause, rewind, forward, back, etc.

Final Cut is a separate, higher end video editor. The pro version of iMovie.
Give iPhoto a look at for creating the slideshow. It's easy to assemble the photos in an album in iPhoto, put them in the order you want and then make a slideshow of them. You can select from various themes and transitions between slides and add music from your iTunes library.
When you have the slidshow as you want use the Export button at the bottom of the iPhoto window and export with Size = Medium or Large.
Save the resulting Quicktime movie file in your Movies folder.
Next, open iDVD, choose your theme and drag the QT movie file into the menu window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Then follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it. If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality. Always use top quality media: Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
The reason I suggest iPhoto is that I find it much easier to use than iMovie (except for the older iMovie 6 HD version). Personal preferences showing here.

I have set up my music to sync only checked items, however, all the songs are still on my iphone. I only want certain songs on my phone, but it still shows several songs that I have not checked off. How do I remove songs from my iphone but they still will stay in my library.

What you need to do is go to music, and slide your finger to the right on the song you want to remove from your device. The song will still show in the music app but will have a cloud with an arrow beside it and you would have to re-download the song to your device to be able to listen to it. And also, this will only take the song off your device and it won't be removed from your library on iTunes. I hope this helps!

Occasional sharp 'beep' sound when transition from a photo to a video

Hi guys-
I've been looking everywhere trying to solve this without any luck (doesnt seems like many out there with such problem).
I'm compiling a video for a family event (comprising of still photos and video clips) but i noticed that occasionally when the compilation play from a still to a video clip- it'll emit a sharp 'beep' noise.
This is what i checked and confirm so far-
1. it happens only when moving from a photo to a video (but not always occur).
2. the video clip has original sound volume set to 0.
3. original video clip does not contain the beep.
4. background song does not contain the beep.
5. not all transition from photo following video produce such beep.
6. the beep still happens even with the background song removed (technically no voice element in the project).
Can anyone share any ideas/experience around this?

Does this happen just when playing in iMovie, or after you've rendered the video into a finalized stand-alone file? If you haven't exported the movie yet, I'd try that and see if the beep is still there.

How do I remove images from Notes app?
I sometimes find that, when cutting and pasting text from the web, an image is also copied (pretty much at all times I try and avoid this, but sometimes the selection process doesn't allow for fine enough control - e.g. a whole block of content may be selected, rather than just the few words I'm trying to copy).
I then find, once it's part of my note, that I cannot select the unwanted image and remove it. Can anyone tell me if this is something that can be done, and if so... how?

Thanks for your replies. I also have and use Simplenote, although I went off it for a while, when it started crashing all the time on me. It seems to be more stable again now, so I'll start using it more regularly again, perhaps.
I am, obviously, disappointed that one can't simply select ANY object within a Notes document and choose to delete it. As I rather suspected, the only solution is an annoying workaround. Apple stuff seems to get more like this as time goes by. At least in my experience.
I solved the issue my own way in the end, but I guess it was close to your 1st idea DR, and your 2nd option, KT: I basically cut and pasted everything above, and then everything below, the image, and pasted both chunks of text into a new note. So it took two passes, and left me with the original note just displaying the image, which I then trashed.
Tapping to the right of the image followed by deletion was what I hoped & expected would work. But instead the image stayed put and the text below the cursor would simply slide along the right hand side, moving upwards as I deleted! Most bizarre, to my mind at least.
Anyway thanks for the feedback. But, for anyone else that might want to know how to do this, the answer is: NO, you can't select and delete an image once it's in one of your notes!
* I quite recently watched the rather strange Bruce Willis / Nick Nolte 'Breakfast of Champions' movie... I think I still prefer the book to the film!

Transparency in gradients - transition gradient slider still shows the transparent tabs colour

I`m trying to make a one colour radial blend from one colour to transparent,
so I make the end tab 0% opacity. transparent,
however the transition gradient slider at top between the colour and the transparent tab still shows the influence of the transparent, this creates a colour bleed from the transparent tab even if I set it to white, the left colour fades out into white then transparency. (this is not due to the cream left tab, it happens on any colour sample)
I want the left colour tab to fade out with no influence in the transition period to the "white transparent" tab, but the transition slider does carry some of the gradation from the white tab... is there a way to delete the white tab all together and have a true transition from the cream to nothing?

I just thought of the solution, - use the same colour on both colour stops, and make one transparent.

You can remove individual songs Slide your finger from left to right (or opposite) over the name of the song you want to delete. You can remove all music that way in Settings - general - usage.

Hi - also new to the forums - I am trying to do the following:
I have a slideshow with slides of people, then a slide with a video of someone talking about the person, then more slides, etc... I want to have my playlist play then pause (or fade) so that it does not conflict with the audio from the video clip when it (automatic slide show) transitions to the slide with the video - can I do this and if so how?

Firefox takes minutes to allow me to add or use bookmarks thru the top level menu on mac - so i want to remove 'bookmark' from the pulldown list - cannnot figure out how to do it.

I need help removing UAC from itunes so it will not allow me to open itunes. Everything I have read from other comments that you shouldn't turn off your user account control. I just to be able to open itunes. Can anyone help me with this problem?? Greg, ogrady612@yahoo,com

I had this problem too but you do not need UAC to be turned on.
Click on start and search for 'uac' in the search box at the bottom and click on 'Change User Account Control Settings' when it comes up. Move the slider to the bottom when the window appears and save the changes and your done!
It's worked for me and my uac has been off for months without causing me any problems!

Problems with removing transitions

I am using iMovie v5. When I remove transitions, my clips are not restored to the original version. For example, if I have two clips with a transition between them, and then I remove the transition the following happens:
1. Clip 1 will have a second or two of merged from Clip 2
2. Clip 2 will be truncated in the beginning by a second or two.
I have looked in the manual and other discussion threads and can't find an answer. Oh... I'm using the fade out transition.

That can happen with non-destructive veideo.
Don't know for certain that this will fix it, but it sure won't hurt anything...
Quit iMovie.
Locate a file named com.apple.iMovie.plist and get rid of it. iMovie will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and restart imovie.

How can I remove the black slide?

I created a slide show in iPhoto and saved it as a movie, .mov
Apparently in the conversion, a black slide was created at the beginning. This slide is not visible in iPhoto, but it is in .mov and MPEG-4
Does anyone know how to remove that black slide?

Do you have Quicktime Pro? If so you can move the play head arrows in Quicktime Player to each side of the black frame and cut it out. If you don't have QT Pro try it anyway with QT Player. It might allow that type of editing. Otherwise try using iMovie to trim the black start frame off.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
