Removing Unwanted Noise

Greetings!
I'm editing a feature film on Final Cut, and there's a scene in a nightclub. The dialouge is very clearly recorded, but running through all the footage is a bit of a hum, mostly from the power going to the lighting grid above the actor's head.
Now, I'm not asking for a step-by-step way of removing this ... if there even is one... but if someone could point me to the right filters to use in Soundtrack Pro... I would be highly grateful.
Cheers,
RickytheGriff

hi
I recently worked on a commercial where the camera wasn't sealed correctly and you could hear the rolling sound of the 35mm film throughout a very quiet piece with dialogue.
I opened the aif in the STP audio editor and selected a section where there was just the unwanted sound and from the Process menu choose 'select noise print' and then choose 'reduce noise' - there are some paramaters here that you can tweak and preview before you commit the action to your file.
anywhoo, it worked a treat!
here are before and after clips ...

  • What is the best program/plug in for removing unwanted noise?

Hi I work with a lot of speech snippets in my tracks from old radio programs, films, documentaries etc and most of the time they have bits of quiet music in the background that I would like to remove.I have tried using logic's noise gate/de-noiser but find is does not get the desired effect that I want it to get.So I am wondering if there is a special program/plug in that can separate the sample so you can remove the unwanted noise I am pretty sure this can be done as I have heard a professional dance tune use a film vocal sample that I know has background music on that particular bit and somehow removed the background music so that vocal is just on it's own.
    Thanks

    Hi
Audacity will do the trick. Use the Noise Removal effect from the Effects ->Utility folder to render a track. You'll need about a second of the background noise alone for the plugin to analyze in order to process the entire track.
A lot of people I know use this for just the same purpose you will.
    Its free... http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/

  • Removing unwanted noises

Use the Invert audio effect for negating unwanted sounds.
Sometimes passers by cough, sneeze, clap...stuff you really don't want to hear. Copy an audio clip, after seperating from the video, into a new audio track. Match frame to the first but trim it to right before and after the sound. Select the new track and drag the Invert Effect on it. Unwanted sound should now be gone.
    John

If I understand correctly, you are making a copy of the unwanted sound and subtracting it from the original. Why not just turn the sound down, eg with keying or cutting the audio and deleting?. X-X is the same as 0.
If there is also general background noise present, you will hear a break in the background noise with all methods.
In this case I go further and copy some similar background noise from nearby and fill the silence with it. If the noise was copied from only a short distance away, it is best to reverse the audio to avoid the sound sounding repetitive.

  • How to remove unwanted audio using audio effects?

The audio effects in question: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7d80a .html
I've been meaning to learn how to do this for a while so I thought I'd get started.
I want to learn how to clean up my audio. I don't have very professional audio gear, I'm using a Rode videomic pro on a canon 60D so the quality isn't the best but it's ok for now. There is a lot I want to learn but right now there are 2 things on my mind:
    1. I have a deadcat wind muff on my rode but still when the wind hits it I get this unwanted wind sound on my soundtrack. I know there has to be a way to remove or reduce this somehow using the audio effects.
    2. Slight white noise over my audio. I know this is a result of recording directly from my camera but there has to be a way to reduce the white noise in order to get clearer audio. I've seen people recording right out of their camera and they have way better results than me.

I know there has to be a way to remove [wind noise]
    There is.  It's called ADR.
there has to be a way to reduce the white noise
    There is.  Better equipment.
Sorry but, I think you may be expecting to much of your post production tools.

  • How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store?

How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store? So you understand better what I'm referring to:
I have the App Store icon in the Dock. When there's an update a red number appears on said icon. Well, I went to check on the updates and it's for 4 different applications I either no longer have or use. One of them is an update for Lion OS users. I'm still on Snow Leopard, so it doesn't even apply to me.
So there they sit... I'm not going to download the updates... so how do I get rid of them?

    Hi Andy ..
    no longer have or use
If there are updates available for apps you have deleted, try this.
    Go to ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore
Move the Cache.db and Updates files from the com.apple.appstore folder to the Trash.
Empty the Trash, restart your Mac.
For any apps you still have installed but do not use, the updates will still be available from the Updates top of the App Store window and show on the red badge on the App Store icon in the Dock.

  • I need urgent help to remove unwanted adware from my iMac. Help!

I need urgent help to remove unwanted adware from my iMac. I have somehow got green underline in text ads, pop up ads that come in from the sides of the screen and ads that pop up selling similar products all over the page wherever I go. Its getting worse and I have researched and researched to no avail. I am really hestitant to download any software to remove whatever it is that is causing this problem. I have removed and reinstalled chrome. I have cleared Chrome and Safari cookies. Checked extensions, there are none to remove. I need to find an answer on how to get rid of these ads. Help please!

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Application Support/VSearch
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.vsearch.agent.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
    /System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. It must be said that this failure of oversight is inexcusable and has seriously compromised the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You cannot rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Unwanted noise when using effect?

So I am VERY new to Logic, and I finally figured out how to record audio. I am trying to use the effects in the library, but they don't do anything except add unwanted noise to my recording.
Also, how can I turn off an effect after I have selected it in the library? (Sorry, very new to logic)

Well, the trouble with effects is that it´s so easy to use add them just because you have them available. A chain of effects will probably do a lot of things that you may not want it to do.
Better to click the squares under Insert a Channel strip and chose the effect you really want or need...
Sorry if this contribution opens up a can of worms; the Instruments and Effects manual is really good. And searchable.

  • Removing Fan Noise

I shot a wedding in August and it was terribly hot in the church. They had setup many many fans to cool off the audience, which was nice but the audio for the ceremony has the underlying fan noise in it. The groom was mic'd and the only other source of sound I have is from the shotgun mic on the camera, eliminating the fan noise at the time of recording seemed impossible with the equipment that I had.
I am able to do the reduce noise and you can barely hear the fan noise but it makes the audio sound like it is in a tin can, is there anything I can do to not make it sound so tinny? I have tried to remove the noise to the point where the tinny sound starts but you can still hear the noise very loudly, almost making the noise removal pointless.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks
    Jeff

If the noise is a very low hum (low as in frequency, not amplitude), try using the low cut filter under process . . . eq and filters.

  • Removing Digital Noise from CCTV Footage

    Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone knew of any good filters, plugins or tips/tricks for removing digial noise, or smoothing artifacts on some footage taken from a survaillence camera?
I have tried the Noise Reduction filter from the Too Much Too Soon free plugins with no luck. Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,

  • I want to purchase Apature, but In the advertising blurb I dont see how to remove unwanted objects from a photo. I know it can be done in Adobe Elements, but I would rather Apature.

I want to purchase Apature, but in the advertising blurb I dont see hoe to remove unwanted oblectsfrom a photo. I know it can be done in Adobe but I would rather have Apature.

    What DiploStrat said.
To expand a little bit:  Aperture allows you to assign a graphics program (such as PSE) as an "external editor".  In general, you use Aperture to organize your photos, to develop them (make them as good as possible for each use), and to publish them (create share-able files).  Your external editor is used when you want to create a new graphics file, which is what happens in all "destructive pixel editing".
Aperture provides tools to remove sensor spots from skies (and like operations), but for removing people and billboards you'll want a proper compositor, a/k/a a graphics program.
