Removing widgets from homesceeen in belle

I have just 'upgraded' to Belle and am trying to get my phone (N8) into a useable state. Before I added anything to my main homescreen the 'social' widget was present. I don't use this and don't want it on my home screen but can't find a way to delete it. I have searched these forums and the User Guide - there is lots about how to add stuff, nothing about how to delete things. Any info gratefully received.

Keep widget pressed until you see white cross in red balloon in top right corner of widget and then press that cross.

  • Removing widgets from widget bar

I want to remove a widget from the widget bar but there is no Widgets icon in the widget bar. When I open Dashboard and click the open buton to reveal the widget bar the widget bar rises up at the bottom and the menus go up and away at the top of the screen. There is no Manage Widgets to click on. Help!

Welcome to Apple's user-to-user discussion forums.
You could try moving "com.apple.dashboard.plist" to the desktop and then opening Dashboard to see what happens. The fastest way to find this file is to paste the name (without quotes) into Spotlight. You will get one entry. Click on Show All and you will then be able to drag it to the Desktop.
There are also some (mostly free) 3rd-party widget managers listed on VersionTracker which might help.

  • Removing widgets

    Greetings!!!
Is there a way to remove widgets from the dock and having them displayed at all times on the monitor?
I have a stop watch and I would like to use it without hitting F12. I recall reading something on this in an old issue of MAC Addict, but I can't find the issue.
    Thanks in advance!

I am a fan of a widget controller called Amnesty. It's wonderful! It gives you access to all of your widgets, at any time - without activating the dashboard.

When selected, your widget appears as a floating window and remains on top until you de-select it.
A bit easier than the terminal, I think.

  • Removing Apps from OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard to make it faster with 2GB

    Hi Everybody,
I have a MacMini 1.1 that happes to have a limitation of memory of 2GB. It is siting as a Set Top Box for our TV.
I am going to upgrade from Tiguer to Snow Leopard. I know I am going to have a performance problem because of Snow Leopard using most of this memory and therefore swapping to VM. It happened to our MacBook.
Yet, as it is only going to be used as a Set Top Box, I thought I could tweek the OS to use as little memory as possible.
    I have two ideas:
    a) Remove all widgets from dashboard (I know they reside at memory and we dont need them).
    b) Remove Mail.app (I imagine it must reside too at memory, or at least some daemon of it, as it must look for mail every now and then).
Is there any other thing I could uninstall/unset so the use of memory of the system reduces to the minimum?
Came on! Enlighten me with your knowledge!!

10.6 with a full boat of App's and Games runs great on our Early Core Duo with 2GB of RAM. The grandkids and guests use for surfing, iPhoto and games, plus it has 30+GB of photos and a 100+GB of music for all to enjoy. One key thing that I did do, was upgraded it to a larger Hard Drive several years ago.
As mentioned by others, you will want to launch very little or no App's at Startup and keep an eye on how many App's are running at the same time to keep from bogging it down.
If it still has the original 5400rpm 80GB Hard Drive, the best improvement would be to upgrade it to a larger and faster 7200rpm Hard Drive.

  • How do i remove gadgets from dashboard?

i know how to get them there, but how do i get em out?

If you just want to remove them from the screen, but not delete them, with the mouse over the widget, press the [Option] key and an X in a circle will appear on the widget. Click that to close it.
If you want to delete them, you can do so with the 'Widgets' widget. Or more directly remove the file from /Users/~/Library/Widgets or /Library/Widgets

  • Dashboard quits when trying to launch widget from ~/library/widgets

    Hello,
My iMac has several accounts which work perfectly. However, my son just noticed in his account (his account is "standard" not "admin") that when he is using dashboard that the widgets that are preloaded (those in HD/library/widget) work fine BUT all those that he had previously added (i.e. those place in ~/library/widgets) do not launch. When he tries to run any of those he gets kick off dashboard back to the finder. I have tried eliminating the plist associated with Dashboard from his account but that did not work. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your help. However:
Yes, I have trashed both of those files from his ~/library/preferences directory and restarted. However, the problem remains unchanged.
Additionally, I have also eliminated his cache items (com.apple.dashboard.client and DashboardClient folders in ~/library/caches) associated with dashboard. The only change has been that this has wiped his preferences so now when I start Dashboard on his account I get the default widgets (e.g. weather, calculator, time and calendar... as you would when you have a new account). Those dashboard items work as they are from the HD/library/widget folder. Those widgets that he added (e.g. say cheese, etc) do not start and kick you out of dashboard if you try to start them.
Lastly, I have removed all the widgets that he added to his account and then tried to add them back. When I double click a widget install file from his desktop, I do not get the same "slow motion ripple effect" widget addition item that I get in the other accounts on the iMac nor the dialogue box that asks if I want to add the widget. After doing an attempted install of a widget from his account, if I start dashboard and hit the "+" I see the new widget item has an entry, however, clicking on this just gets me kicked out of dashboard again and I am back where I started.
    Any more ideas???

  • Unable to add or remove widget in Today

I cannot add or remove widgets in Today view of Notification Centre. It just showed a blank screen.
Does anyone know how to solve this issue? Thanks!
I have tried reset and restore from my backup, but it still got the problem.

Then you won't like my response but it sounds like you need to restore the device as a new device. Then you can manually reinstall your apps and modify your settings to get the device back to where it was. Unfortunately you will not be able to save your text messages and voicemails. If you backed the device up with iTunes you can use a utility called iBackup Bot which will allow you to open the device's backup and extract messages and what not.

One or more menu widgets within your site have become out-of-sync with the structure of your site in Plan view. If you send us the file we can repair and return it. Or you could delete and recreate the menu widgets.
Please send us the .muse file at [email protected] along with a link to this thread. If the file is larger than 20Mb you can use a service like Adobe SendNow, Dropbox, WeTransfer, etc. (If you use a service, please include your return e-mail address in the body of the message, since not all services include it in the sharing invite they send.)
    Thanks.

  • How do i remove widgets

Im wondering how do i remove widgets?

    Hi there!
I use the Fire messaging client quite a bit so I think I can help.
Installing Fire is like installing a lot of other Mac programs these days. There's no installer. Instead, you download a disk image that contains the program. The Fire disk images are named things like
    Fire.app.1.5.6.dmg
When you double-click that, the contents of that file will open up as though it were a disk, and you'll see an eject button next to it. At this point, you could (and it sounds like you did) run the program directly from that virtual "disk" that got created.
However, if you look at that disk's window where the Fire icon appears, you'll see that up at the top is text that reads "To install, drag Fire into your Applications folder."
What you want to do is drag that Fire icon into "Applications," which you can usually do by dragging it to the Applications tab on the left in the Finder. You may be asked to enter your password, and then Fire will be copied into Applications. You can then drag the Fire icon from Applications to your dock if you like so that you can get at it easily.
The reason you couldn't find Fire when you ejected the disk image that contained it is that you had not copied it from there to the Applications folder or elsewhere on the computer. (You can actually put it anywhere you like, Applications is just a good place for programs like that, particularly if you have multiple users who want to share them.)
Hope that helps, and if some of this has seemed obvious, I apologize, but this way of installing applications is reasonably common on the Mac and you don't see it in the Windows world much, if at all.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start Time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

When I link my phone to my new computer, it asks me if I want to connect the computer with the phone and I say yes, but you can only have 5 devices connected to one account, since one was stolen, and the other laptop broke, how do I remove them from my account??
