How do I rename a document in pages so that I can keep both the original and the new documents.

The document must be closed to rename it – just click on the name and change it. To duplicate a document, control click > duplicate document.

how do one rename a document created with iwork pages?

So the "Rename" command is not supposed to work?  It is a dead link and crashes Pages.
Where did Pages save the file that I wanted to put into the folder of related documents.  Please bring back "save as" or ask where we want the file saved.  How else can I find it later?

  • How do I rename a document in Pages please?

    Hi all,
I have created a document in Pages and given it a name before closing it.
I now wish to rename the document, any suggestions please?

    Hi,
Thank you for your quick responce, I have tried as you have suggested and failed.
I have spent hours over the past few days trying to overcome this problem without success, everytime I right click the original filename it opens the file. I've tried it using a mouse and the pad on my MacBook Pro. I also have the same problem on my IMac.

  • Renaming a document in Pages under Lion

There's a couple of features in Pages under Lion that I can't figure out and don't like. I do up invoices for my husband's business. Instead of starting a whole new invoice, I like to grab an old one and plug in the new information. I used to simply Save As and retype a new name in which would keep the old version and give me a new invoice.
Now - no clue how to replicate this action. There's no Save As feature. Only duplicate which I can't figure out and Save a Version which seems to do nothing that I'm aware of.
Anyone have any ideas on this?

This thread on Pages has almost helped me - thanks.
(I'm using Pages v.4.1 with OS X v10.7.4 on my MacBook.)
I see many posts that say: "...JUST use ⌘ S or Fle > Save…" to give the second instance of the document it's next - new name.
My fingers follow the instructions but the screen NEVER displays, "the familiar save dialog" box.
I would prefer to not use Text Editor or learn a new product like MS Word.
    Any suggestions would be helpful.

  • Application crashes in CS4 on renaming document using Save As

I have ported a  project from CS3 to CS4.But on renaming a document using File->Save As option my application crashes .
This did not happen in CS3.I m unable to find the problem

Same here---over and over. I had this problem in CS3 with Adobe's Acrobat update 8.2.4 which fowled everything up. I carefully followed the instructions to uninstall and reinstall all of CS3 but then every program in my CS3 crashed on opening or soon thereafter. I spent the money to update to CS5 and just successfully did that, except 'Save As' still crashes. I must go to the finder and rename the doc from there. For details see my previous post (still no answer to that) at bottom of: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3086555#3086555

  • Relinking Cross-References after Renaming Documents

I have a problem where I have created a book containing 14 chapters. Each chapter has a reference to the language of the book i.e. GB in the document title, we now want to translate the documents, so have copied the book, and chapters, renamed the document with an FR in the document titles, ready to send of to the translators.
The trouble is all the cross references are still linking to the GB book. Is there a way of re-linking all the cross references to the FR documents? Or is it a case of going to each cross-reference and re-linking to the same piece of text but in the FR book.
    Can anyone help?

No help here, at least no help in providing some magic. Cross-file cross-references seem to depend on the name of the file that contains the cross-reference "destination" - the text that's captured and displayed at the "source" - the location where the cross-reference is inserted. I'm using quotation marks here because some folks think of the stuff you capture as the cross-reference source, and what's displayed at the cross-reference insertion point is the destination in their view. IOW, they're opposite uses of the term. InDesign's nomenclature is based on the hyperlink model, where you create a destination somewhere and you act on it by pointing to that destination from where you insert the link to it, AKA the source of the action. At least that's my guess.
So, changing file names loses the connection.
Internal cross-references - within a single document file - are maintained when the file's name is changed.
You can relink cross-file cross-references for files that are moved to a new folder. In the Cross-References panel, select a "missing" cross-reference that displays a question mark in a red circle, then from the panel's fly-out menu, choose Relink Cross-Reference, and browse the directory. If all the cross-file cross-references in the file whose cross-references point to files in one directory, relinking should restore all the links. If some cross-references point to files moved to other directories, you'll need to browse to each of those directories.
With a book, if all the missing cross-file cross-references for all the book's component files were all moved to the same folder, relinking one missing reference should relink all. If some missing cross-references point to files moved elsewhere, you'll need to browse for each of those directories.

  • Document ID Link breaks after renaming file

I've recently encountered a problem where a client will rename a document and the Document ID link will break. Opening the file using the link to the name still works but using the document id doesn't seem to work. I've tried re-running the Document ID
timer jobs but it didn't seem to have any affect. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

  • Rename document

  • How do I rename a Versions document?

I use Text Edit to create a simple document that I share with other people.  I use to save the document with the date so others could follow what I was changing, i.e., document name 7-25-11, document 7-26-11, etc.
Now with Versions, there does not appear to be a way to rename the document I am working on since there is no longer a Save As.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

Use the duplicate function. It is the new "Save As..."
    Cheers

it looks really strange. Try to rename the documents on the "Explorer view" and tell us if it's working.

  • How to save a PDF in Acrobat XI after making changes without changing the document name

Whenever I work in Adobe Acrobat XI, I am forced to 'save as' when trying to save the changes I have just made.  I am unable to save the document under the same name I have been working on it under (the way you can do in every other program).  This happens every time I create form fields, merge or extract pages, add text, etc.  This is extremely annoying because then I have to go into my documents, delete the old version, and then rename the document I was working on.  HELP! I work in Acrobat every day creating and editing documents and there HAS to be a better way!

CTRL+F brings up the search bar within the document. When I go to File --> Save (or CTRL+S) I receive an error message that states "The document could not be saved.  The file may be read-only, or another user may have it open.  Pelase save the document with a different name or in a different folder". This message pops up for EVERY document I have modified that I try to save.

  • Why can I not save a locked Numbers document?

My Numbers is weird, slow and almost impossible to get used to. That's why I now
I still use Appleworks Spreadsheets on my Powermac for doing daily accounting updates, and
only then import a copy to Numbers for keeping copies on my MacBookAir.
I created a template in Numbers, open it for every import, then copy the content of the import
to the template.  The template is named Copy 0.
To do that I will import say "12Dec01", then need to open "Copy 0" and duplicate it (so I will not lose this template) then rename the duplicate to "12Dec01".  I
then open the imported "12Dec01" and copy its content, then paste it into the renamed duplicate, then "lock" that document.
I now want to save it, but Numbers will not let me save an open document that has been locked.!!!
Why lock it if a locked document cannot be saved?  Besides this issue of locking, I now have 4 open documents on the desktop:  The import, Copy 0, the Duplicate of it, and the Renamed copy of it.
You know what? In Appleworks you would only have 1 document open which you "save as" with what ever name (in whatever condition of progress you want to save it), wherever to.
Accidentally, I found I can save a locked document but only after doing all these extra steps:  In order to lock the document it has to be closed and saved unlocked  to a folder first, then opened up again, and only then it can be locked!
This process reminds me of the old DOS systems, which questiioned everything you wanted to do with "do you really want to do that?"
I wonder whether my Numbers is damaged, or whether it has a good reason to be that way?
Or maybe I missed some instructions?

Thanks Jeff, I was not aware that a template could be multi-page.  (All the existing templates were 1 page)
But it worked, saving me some steps.  When I was finished I renamed the document, and locked it.
Then tried to save it but  could not because it was locked.  I closed it, went to my Spread Sheet Folder ,
to find it, it was not there.  The Finder could not find it either.
    So I start over again.
I opened up Numbers and it showed my personal Numbers template folder, it contained both my new
original 4 page template and the vanished saved document!
I tried to delete the template containing these document data and could not - I had to go to the Library/Application Support/Numbers to physically remove it from this folder. Then I started over again.  I Finally found out how to make it work: I can now "save as", and then lock, and it will go to place where I want it to be saved and locked.
The secret is: Click on the document title in the menu bar, and it opens up  "Save as...", which works the same as in OS 10.4.11, and you can pick the place you want for saving.  Once done that, you can then lock the document in the same pull down menu, and then close it.
I also found later that I can delete a template from its folder, by letting Numbers open the templates,
clicking on the one I want to remove, then go to the "Numbers Menu/File/Move to...", select "Desktop"
and from there the selected template can then be thrown into the Trash from there.
It appears now that the real fault of the Numbers software is that the "Save as" command is not available in the "Edit" or "File" pull-down menus, but hidden behind the title of the document.

  • How do I rename my PDF file in the "new" DC mobile app.

What a mess. Adobe decided to push the new "DC" on my tablet. Now there is no document tab, all my PDF files are gone or in-accessible, and I can find no option to rename new downloaded PDF files. Complete revamp really was a good idea, right? Just when I getting used to working around the KitKat 4.4 SD card issue, now this. I'm going back to paper and pencils!!!  This is so incredibly PRODUCTIVE, learning a whole new buggy interface after so many years of getting comfortable with "Reader".... I don't need or want the cloud, I just want to work with my documents on my tablet - THEN, let me decide what I want to do with them. Sorry, I am just so frustrated with having to completely RE-LEARN how to do something so basic every time some software gets "improved", or "updated".

Could you try if this video helps: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fTrTPR9LEq8.
Also, for renaming the document, you would need to use a third party file manager such as AndExplorer or ES File Manager.
    Thanks.
