Rename a layer

I can rename a layer? When I doble-click a layer name, I can write other name but when I press <enter> the layer revert to original name

Try clicking out of the edit field after making your changes instead of pressing enter.  Pressing enter to commit will work correctly in an upcoming build.

  • Renaming a layer without touching mouse?

    When exporting files from Illustrator, I get a ton of layers named <path> and <group>. I want to quickly rename these layers in Photoshop.
    I'm using Alt-[ & -] to move up and down my Layer palette, but I haven't figured how to change a layer name other than double-clicking on the name (which takes a hand off the keyboard). Is there any way to rename a layer by using the keyboard only?

    Inconsistency between or among applications in the artificial "suites" should come as no surprise.
    The "suite" concept is a fabrication of Adobe marketing and bean-counting types.  The engineering teams are totally independent of each other, they are not only in different buildings but in different cities and states of the American Union, even in different countries.
    The fact that they have little if any communication among them is highlighted by requests occasionally made in these forums by top Adobe engineers to let the other teams know when there are problems in one application that impact our workflow in another one.

  • Rename presentation layer catalog

    Hi,
    I have renamed the presentation layer catalog in RPD. When I am seeing the dashboard all the reports are getting displayed but when I see the individual reports I am getting :"Either you do not have permission to use the subject area X within Answers, or the subject area does not exist" on the left side of the report.Can anyone tell me how can we rename the presentation layer catalog with individual reports not showing the above statement?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Amrit

    Option 1 :
    use the rename wizard ( tols-> utility-> rename wizard) to change the name of presentation catalog
    option 2 :
    go to answers of that report->go to advance tab
    under
    Enter the name of the Subject Area : write the new subject area

  • How to disable auto rename text layer with content

    HI Every one,
    I want to disable the auto renaming feature in text layers so that I can change the content without change the name of the text layer.
    also i want to do this to all the text in one step, wthout do it manual one by one.
    for more description, i am working on replace English text with other language but i want to keep English name of all text layers SO i want to disable auto renaming while replacing the content.
    Thanks in advace

    I guess a Script could do this by changing the names (adding a space or a _ for example) but I know no way of turning it off in general.

  • Some times when i rename my layer in ps 5.1 the program is stop and became no RESPONSE

    i am using photoshop cs5.1 64bit

    And the generally good and standard advice...
    Visit the web page of the maker of your video card (nvidia.com in your case) and download/install the latest release of the display driver for your hardware and OS.  Display driver updates fix many problems, some of which are very indirect and manifest as failures later.

  • Can't rename layer in PSE 11

    When I click on the name edit box of a layer in the layers palette it changes from grey to white then immediately changes to grey and I cannot type into it. The same thing happens if I right click the layer and choose Rename Layer from the context menu. What must I do to rename a layer? This worked perfectly in PSE 9 but seems to be a bug now. Thanks.

    Which platform, which version of your OS? It works for me. Try deleting the preferences: go to the editor preferences>general and click this button, then restart the editor:

  • Unable to rename layer in Flash CS4

    I have three different machines, all XP Pro, with all the latest service packs and updates (windows and adobe). When trying to rename a layer in the timeline, if I double click the layer name the name changes to edit mode for a fraction of a second and then switches back to non-editable. I can rename the layers through the properties but I'd like to solve this issue.
    Any suggestions?

    This will happen when the Behaviors and Actions panel are open at the same time, or have been open at the same time in the current workspace or a workspace that the current one is based off of.
    Make sure both of those panels are closed, then open a default workspace and create a new workspace based off of that without opening those two panels at the same time.

  • Actions ignoring modal control for layer renaming, Photoshop CS6

    Hey, everyone! I often run actions that have modal control for certain steps turned on, in particular, when I want to give a layer a custom name. Prior to CS6, I'd run my action, the window would open allowing me to rename my layer, and then it finishes my action. However, in CS6, it seems to ignore the modal control button selected, puts in whatever the default info is and continues on. This hoses quite a few of my actions that I've been using for years. Submit a bug report?
    Thanks,
    Bruce

    Bruce it looks like you found yet an other bug in CS6 please report it at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_familyhttp://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family

  • When renaming layer, it instantly exits renaming mode bug

    for some reason every time I try rename a layer it will instantly or within seconds exit renaming mode making it really annoying to rename. It could be that something else is causing this, but I have tried other keyboards/mouse and closed almost all programs but Photoshop and i still get this bug, anyone else get this?

    You might try a reset: Press Cmd+Opt+Shift (Mac) or Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Win) immediately after initiating Photoshop startup. Select "yes" when prompted.

  • Rename Layer, Group, Object Javascript

    Hey Guys,
    I'm trying to write a script that renames a layer, and group within the layer, then an object within the layer (but not a part of the group) and have it run in a loop.
    Here's what I've got so far, the group rename doesn't work.
    #target Illustrator
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    idLayers(doc)//IRename layers
    idGroups(doc)//Rename groups
    function idLayers(doc){
        for(i=0;doc.layers.length>i;i++){
            doc.layers[i].name= 'id:GTM_Group '+(i+1)
    function idGroups(doc){
        for(i=0;doc.groups.length>i;i++){
            doc.groups[i].name= 'id:GTM_Group '+(i+1)
    I haven't put in anthing to rename the single object yet since I cant even get the group rename to work. I suspect that the group re-name section isn't working because I'm either using bad syntax or an invalid command. Any ideas?

    Found out that I was really close, and some interesting facts about how thorough illustrator will be when renaming groups across the board. Basically the files I'm working with have a layer that requires a specific name and number, and group within that layer and an object outside of that group but still in the same layer. Within the group is a compound path made up of several objects, I noticed that the when I started getting the group rename working it was skipping multiple numbers because it was going inside the compound path, find groups within the compound path and renaming them as well. So as long as I make sure there are no groups hidden within the groups I wanted to rename the script  works like a charm.
    Anyway this is what that script looks like I'm still working on getting the up-grouped object renamed. I notice this discussion has gotten a few views since I went to lunch. I'll post the final version at the end of the day if I have time.
    If anyone has any suggestions or constructive advice I'd be very open to hear it.

            doc.layers[i].name= 'Named Layer  '+(i+1)
    function idGroups(doc){
        for(i=0;doc.groupItems.length>i;i++){
            doc.groupItems[i].name= 'Named Group '+(i+1)

  • Rename layers with layer 1, layer 2 till and layer N

    My Name is Sathya Murthy
    I have psd files with many layers each with different names
    I want to rename the layer which i have selected using right click with name Layer 1
    Next layer which I right click with layer 2 and so on till layer N
    and layers with are left out without renaming should be put in a new layer set or group in layers separately in the same file.
    which i have opened
    and layers should be arranged like this
    till Layer N
    Layer 4
    Layer 3
    Layer 2
    Layer 1
    Group or Layer Set
    Background
    I hope you understand what i am saying
    I want scripting for that action as I have more files to rename layers so by using scripts i can work little bit faster
    anyone knowing please help
    Thanks In Advance
    Sathya Murthy

    I don’t think one can select Layers in the Layers Panel or on the Canvas while a Script is running.
    One could select the Layers via a dialog, but that would take focus and need to present a list of the Layers.
    Alternatively it might be possible to set up a work-around by selecting a Layer, invoking a Script (either by Keyboard Shortcut or from a Configurator Panel) that stores data (the activeLayer in this case), repeating that as often as needed and at the end of the selection process trigger another Script (or possibly the same with the shift-key pressed) that then processes that stored information.
    But maybe someone else has more insightr or a better idea.

  • Creating a New Layer Using Icons in Adjustment Palette

    When creating a new layer using the icons in the adjustments palette and holding ALT in CS5 a dialog box would appear before creating the new layer.  At this point you could rename the layer change the blending mode etc.
    In CS6 I do not get the dialog box to appear the new layer is just created.  I've tried to reset my preference twice and this has not help. Any ideas?

    On the contrary, your memory may have failed.
    ACJ81 is correct (at least as far as Ps on OS X is concerned) and the problem was mentioned in the forum not too long ago. In CS5, Alt-clicking an icon in Adjustments panel does cause a New Layer dialog to pop open and the dialog fails to appear in CS6.
    In CS6 and CS5, the dialog will appear if you pick an Adj Lyr from the Layer > New Adjustment Layer submenu, both with or without Alt modifier. (That lack of control over the appearance of an optional dialog when picking from a menu is an inconsistency in the interface.)
    In CS6 and CS5, the dialog will appear if you Alt-click the black and white circle at bottom of Layers panel then pick an Adj Lyr from the menu, as Noel said.

  • PLEASE add the ability to rename layers in Muse!

    Adobe, please allow us to rename ANY layer in Muse so we can know what each layer is. This is a very basic feature of nearly every Adobe software available and should be included in Muse ASAP.
    It is so difficult to find objects when the majority of them are defaulted to names like "rectangle" and "composition". Help us save time with this simple but extremely important feature!

    I totally agree. I have submitted it as an idea for a feature request here: Rename child layers (e.g: Rectangle to banner_fill or whatever!)
    Do vote for it and mention it to others who use Muse and get them to vote, even if it is a down vote as would be good to get a better idea of where this lies in terms of user "want", for us and the Muse team.

  • Batch Rename PSD Layers to File Name Script?

    Hello,
    I just recieved several thousand .PSD files for a job containing a single layer (named "Layer 1") on a transparent background. I'm trying to find a way to batch rename the layer in each of these files as the file name, sans the file extension. Is there a script out there that can do this for me? Forgive me, I am not too hip with scripts.
    Windows 7 PC, CS6
    Thank you!

    Save the line below into a plain text file and give it the .jsx extension.
    app.activeDocument.activeLayer.name = decodeURI(app.activeDocument.name).match(/(.*)(\.[^\.]+)/)[1];
    Then create an action that runs that script. Then run File-Automate-Batch using that action.
