Rename Audio Files - Keep Rating & Playcount Intact

Is there a way to rename an audio file while retaining rating and playcount intact?

Yeah, I just tried it.
You'll get the ! original file can't be found message, and have to browse out to the new name.
iTunes kept the rating and playcount intact.
Not practical for large numbers of songs, though.

Renaming audio files with increasing numbers.

I don't know if this is a Logic or a MacOS question but since it has to do with music I post it here.
I received three Cds with audio files. Every CD starts from track number one. I want to import all that files into logic. It confuses me when I have three audio files with the same name in my audio window. I want to rename them so I can see to which CD they belong.
I could rename all the files manually. But is there a way to rename the files with increasing numbers all at once?
Can I do that with the file manager or automator??

what i do is import the files in Logic.
In the arrange window select all the different regions (i only have done this when they're on the same track).
Select the text tool.
click on the first track you wanna rename - a blue box will appear.
type the preferred name with a 1 after it.
all the regions following that region will be renamed incrementally.
You can also do this with a single region that you have split in logic.
Or you can split a region in logic and to rename them as individual files i press ctrl-F and ask logic to save them as "xxxfile1" - or with out the "1" i can't remember - and it saves them all incrementally.

Double playback of audio files after publishing

Hello,
I'm having an issue with audio playback. Once I publish the project, the audio files play back double, with the second one starting about 3 seconds after the first. If I pause the project, one of the audio files keeps playing. I removed the auto play function, but no change. I would greatly appreciate any tips if anyone has experienced this before.

I don't have any text captions in this project, the entire thing is from PowerPoint, where the audio files worked perfectly fine. I also checked the use count, everything reads as "1"... I also tried to begin from scratch with just one slide and one audio file, and the same thing happened. I'm beginning to think my audio files are corrupted. (However, they play fine in itunes and powerpoint). I converted them from mp4 > mp3 with an online converter... might just be the problem! I'm going to download a trial of premier and see what happens with that!

Re-naming audio files in the bin

I saw another post where a guy said you couldn't re-name audio files.
I had to try it. He was partially right. it seems like you can't just double click and re-name the files.
You can do it, it's just really tricky.
I had the best result when I gave the file one long click then I was able to re-name it.
It's still buggy, but it can be done. That needs to be fixed. I rename audio files allot.

I can do it here by normal double clicking, so it's definetly not a Logic 8 Bug.

Can't rename audio clips using letters - only numbers

Hi There,
ALl of a sudden I can't rename audio files in the "Audio" tab - it only accepts numbers no letters.
Anyone else seen this?
Am running Motion 4.0.3 on 10.6.7
Any help would be much appreciated.

Um, buddy, you're typing in a time code field. You can only "reaname" in the Browser window.

Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

Saved project from migration does not have video files? Will manually reloacting each video keep the editing intact on the project?

I had a computer crash but was able to manually drag over and save all my imovie projects. The corresponding videos did not transfer over during the migration. I have had to manually go in and re-import each of the video clips. Will the manually reimported clips automatically replace the missing files and keep the edits intact?
So for example, a missing file in the project has the first 5 seconds clipped off and some image stabilization. The project says I need to reimport the original source media (File X). I import File X so it is now in the library. Will imovie now recognize File X as the source media and automatically plug it in, complete with the cropped 5 seconds and image stabilization? If it is not automatic, is there a process I need to complete to accomplish this?

Batch rename won't keep the extension on some files only

I have all my shrunk (resized to smaller for web) files in a sub folder. I got the idea here somewhere to rename such files by adding " _sm " this way being able to distinguish from the two when doing a search. In batch renaming something strange happened:some files did not keep their extension. How could this be and why? There was also no undo (Why?) so i decided to rename them once again this time replacing the "_sm" with ".jpg" in order to fool Bridge and place the files back to their original names and extensions.
Anyhow is there a reason why it would not keep the extension on some files while keep it on others? Since it's doing this in batch, therefore processing many files at once there's gotta be a reason why it would not treat all files as equals and I'm thinking that perhaps it has something to do with how I name my files.

If you select the opion to preserve the previous file name when batch renaming in Bridge then it's easy to revert… The old name will be stored in the files meta data…
If you have renamed the files again then I think this will have been overwritten… I think the property is name string and NOT array of name strings…

Captivate 5.5 keeps importing same audio file to additional screens instead of newly chosen file

I split an MP3 file between three screens at the beginning of the training and all went well. Now I am trying to add another file to another set of two screens further in the training - once I choose "Distribute the audio file over several slides" it reimports the first MP3 file from the beginning of the training (when I first chose that option to distribute). I've tried over and over again to import the new file to these new slides, it simply will not import the new file, it keeps adding the first file that I split up. Has anyone seen this before?

How to keep one-time-only audio files out of iTunes?

If someone sends me an audio file that I want to play just once ... or if I record a voice memo on my iPhone ... these audio files wind up copied into my iTunes folder and listed in iTunes. I'd rather they weren't.
Is there some way I can just play an audio file, or record a voice memo, and not have it copied into the iTunes folder and displayed in iTunes? If so, it would save me all the manual deleting every time one of these things shows up.

Thanks, that works, but it's not exactly what I'm looking for. Rather than have to search for the file in Finder and then hit the space-bar, I'd like to be able to simply double-click on an audio file, let it play in iTunes, but not be copied to the iTunes folder and remain in the iTunes browser until I delete it.
Also, I need to find a way to keep voice memos from residing in iTunes. I use them a lot, and they just clutter it up.

Audio file rename not working

I like the ability to add audio files to annotate information. My camera does not support audio files at the time the photograph is taken; however it's easy to copy a digital recording file to the folder and as long as it's got the same name as the raw file (in my case .cr2) lightroom recognizes it and plays it. In addition I have many non-digital files I would like to add audio annotations to that were scanned in. However, if I do an F2 rename in LR the audio file is not renamed. Is this a bug in Lightroom or is it because I created the audio file outside of the camera? If it's because I didn't have the camera create the audio file; is there a way to associate it correctly?

I have no idea, other than LR wasn't designed to handle anything but images that cameras rendered. I was surprised to learn LR even played the audio file.
Your question was clear; I read it badly.
AFAIK, you'll have to manually name the audio file, but since each one is a custom job, it shouldn't be too onerous.

If you're really using that version of L8, you really need to get the software update for that - there were quite a few glaringly obvious faults with the initial release of Logic 8, which a couple of updates rectified.
I can't guarantee that the particular problem you specified is one of them, but you defininitely should do that...

There are the screen shots. But I just wanna know how to get rid of these annoying messages! My project is just how I want, so these messages mean nothing to me.
Messages read:
1. Audio file Bass#12 not found
2. 1 invalid region(s) changed

I'm using a german version, so i'm not shure about the translation...
Open your project and klick on "windows", "Audio Bin" ( shortcut "cmd9" ), search the filename there and delete it if you are shure that you don't need it.
If you need it, search it with Mac OSX Finder, and put it in the audio bin.
Is your Audio Path set ? Project Settings / Recording / Core Audio....

Force pointer to a different audio file

I often use the function to open a file in an external sample editor (usually izotope) while a Logic song is open. But the following applies even when not using this particular command. That particular command is handy in the sense that Logic keeps refreshing the updated file as it's being edited, but what I really want to do is create a new file so the original stays intact as a backup.
I'd like to have a command to force Logic to point to this renamed, edited sound file instead of the original--without having to close and reopen the song.
This would operate much in the same way as when one is prompted by Logic when it is unable to find a sound file upon opening a song. You get the can't-find-a-file dialogue with option to either search, or to manually point to the file. I just want to be able to force this on command while the song is open, as an audio bin command (not just when opening a song and Logic is unable to find a file)
Currently, the way I deal with it is
-close the Logic song
-rename the original audio file temporarily, e.g., put a ~ in front of the file name.
-use the "find manually" option when Logic says to find the file it can no longer find
-point Logic to the edited and renamed version.
-then once again, rename the original file back to its original name.
Anyone have a simpler method?
