Rename Domain Name where running Sharepoint 2013

Hi,
I want to change my domain name, from abc.com to def.com.
the thing is, we have more than 20 user in this domain and running share point 2010 there, and its architecture like 1-WFE Server, 1-APP Servre and 1-SQL Server.
how i can do this, without effecting my users login and SharePoint Application.
Share Point uses several user accounts from domain for different services and SQL aswell, also we have enabled FBA (Form based Authentication) for share Point.

Please note you need to be sure that all AD-based applications and solutions you have fully support AD-renaming and also take a system state backup of at least one DC/DNS/GC server in your domain.

Rename Domain name quick question

Hi All
Is there an easy way to rename the current domain name (without serious impact) we have running with the AdminServer ?
Other post involves quite a bit of global text change of domain name on unknown number of files in WLS.

Blog comments are only available if hosting on MobileMe. An alternative for other hosts is Haloscan.

Changing AD Domain name with Microsoft Exchange 2013

Hello everyone,
we need to change our Active Directory Domain name from .local to another naming convention.
We are running a Windows Server 2012 R2 environment with Exchange 2013.
- Domain Controller
- File Server
- Exchange 2013
Running on a VMware ESX Host.
What is the applied way to change the Domain name? Or is there no way to change in the running Forest and we have to re-setup everything?

Hi YE,
Oracle would not recommend that, however for a WORK-AROUND you can use the domain template and create a new domain with using that template and can change the Domain name, IP address etc.

SPA9000: REALM/DOMAIN name where to enter this ?

I'm trying to test sipline.nl they require me to enter a realm/domain name (sipline.nl) but i can't find it in the config of my SPA9000
Who knows where to enter this ? so i can register at sipline.nl

The forwarding process varies from registration company to registration company. Generally speaking, you log into their website and access your account controls. Somewhere in the controls/settings for your account is where you enter in the long .mac address of your website which you want your domain name to forward to.
Note that there are two types of domain forwarding. With "regular" Domain forwarding (often just called domain forwarding), someone types in exampledomain.com and they are forwarded to web.mac.com/username/iWeb/exampledomainsite; once there, they see the long .mac url.
With domain masking, someone types in exampledomain.com, they are forwarded to your site on .mac, but the url still reads exampledomain.com. The advantage is they never have to see the long (and some thing ugly) .mac address; the disadvantage is that they can't easily bookmark particular pages because the url does not change as they move from page to page of your site.
Be sure you know which type of forwarding you want before you buy a domain name. Some registration/hosting companies only provide one or the other. The names of the two services vary somewhat between registration companies.

Domain Name Purchase for SharePoint Apps

I am having some difficulty wrapping my head around this and are hoping someone can help me with this.
I am setting up a development environment (1 wfe and 2 db servers mirrored) and some articles are telling me to purchase a domain name for the app store, and some articles are saying that you can use a sub-domain (although less secure). I am interested in
knowing what the majority of people are doing when setting up the app store in a development environment.
If anyone has any experience with this, I would be grateful to hear from you.

If you are developing internally then you don't need to buy a domain name, you can just direct traffic to your App domain using DNS.
It's very odd to have a mirrored SQL environment for development, unless you need to test failover it's probably unrequired.

Office Web Apps Server Name issue with Sharepoint 2013

I have a POC Lab setup for SharePoint/OfficeWebApps with SSL offloading. I am using IIS reverse proxy for my SSL offloader. Most systems can connect to SharePoint and OWA through the Loadbalancer and create documents as desired. The
configuration is as follows:
DNS points:
sharepoint.contoso.com to the reverse proxy address that handles sharepoint.
owa.contoso.com to the reverse proxy address that handles owa.
My OfficeWebApps farm uses an internal and external url of
https://owa.contoso.com and uses ssloffload.
My SPWOPIBinging connects to owa.sharepoint.com (through the reverse proxy) and is configured with the external-https zone.
The name of the OWA server is nyc-owa1.contoso.com.
The issue is as follows:
If I flush my dnscache before connecting to
https://sharepoint.contoso.com, and then use OWA in sharepoint, my client DNS cache will list sharepoint.contoso.com, owa.contoso.com AND nyc-owa1.contoso.com!
Where is is getting the name of the actual owa server?
If I simulate an Internet client that cannot resolve the internal name nyc-owa1.contoso.com, but only the public names of sharepoint.contoso.com and owa.contoso.com, the client cannot successfully edit a new or existing file with OWA, the browser hangs with
Java errors ('SYS' is undefined etc.)
When I add either the real IP address of the server nyc-owa1.contoso.com OR the reverse proxy address for nyc-owa1.contoso.com to a hosts file, the client works normally.
I would like to know how the client is getting the OWA server's name and how to control that behavior.

Cross Domain User Access for Sharepoint 2013 site collection

We have three Domains , one is for client machines and AD user access purpose and second one is production environment (only some of developers has access to this domain) and third one is SharePoint environment (Because External users needs to

Old Domain Name showing in User Profiles

Sharepoint User Profile Sync is showing some users with our Old Domain name (from years ago). This domain name is NOT in our Active Directory. I'm guessing that the profiles that show the old domain name must have been in our Sharepoint
2007 and got ported over when we upgraded to Sharepoint 2010.
This is causing conflicts and some workflows not to work (ones where its looking up a user's profile). And when I look in Microsoft Forefront Identity Manager, there are some users listed with this error: Exception while trying to migrate user "abc\johndoe"
to "xyz\johndoe".. Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException: The user does not exist or is not unique.......
("abc" being the old domain name...and "xyz" being our current domain name)
I'm wondering what is the best way to get rid of the old domain name in our Sharepoint 2010 user profiles? Should I update them in the User Profile database in SQL?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Also, in Central Admin under Health monitoring, we have this message
"People search relevance is not optimized when the Active Directory has errors in the manager reporting structure. In Active Directory, only company leaders should have the 'manager' property set to NULL. As a result of errors, the Active Directory can
incorrectly have the 'manager' property set to NULL for other users that can cause a decrease in people search relevance. By specifying the actual leaders of
the company, these inconsistencies are not taken into account and the relevance problem is corrected.
Remedy
Specify the company leaders explicitly. Use the following PowerShell
commands: $upap = Get-SPServiceApplicationProxy [appid]; Add-SPProfileLeader
$upap [Domain]\[UserName]. Run 'Get-SPProfileLeader $upap' to check whether the
leader was successfully added. As a last step, run a full crawl on the content
source containing the start address (URL) of the user profile application.

If Mysite Clean Up job is running then this issue should be fixed(removed all old profiles) in couple of User Profile Sync( Full followed by couple of Incremental). Basically, FIMs
responsible to mark the user as deleted within the UPA then CleanUp Job purge these profile.

How many users you are seeing, are they showed in the Profile missing options? if less numbers then you can simply remove the IDs from USer Profile manually.

Sharepoint 2013 adding ECT fails with "Access Denied by Business Connectivity Service"

Using SharePoint Designer 2013 I am attempting to setup an External Content Type to a SQL DB. I have setup the SQL database with a valid login that was also used to setup an account with the Secure Store Service. I am running SharePoint 2013 designer and
have opened my site with administrative credentials. No matter what, I continue to get the "access denied" message when I try to add this SQL database to my ECT section in SPD. All users have access to invoke the BCS app.
I have deleted and recreated the BCS service application and it is running with farm credentials and temporarily I added the farm account to the local admin account....and again verified that all users have rights to run BCS...
In all other aspects my SharePoint sites are working, I can modify and add via SPD and publish...etc...but I cannot add a connection to an external SQL server. I have also verified through Excel that I can connect to my SQL DB with the same credentials that
I am trying in SharePoint and everything works.
Most of the posts I see in this area relate to permissions or access problems AFTER the ECT connection is created. My problem is I can't even get a connection created.

Here are the error logs that are generated when I try to connect....maybe this will help someone tell me where to correct the issue.....(I removed the actual domain names) but my account was listed which is an admin on the sharepoint system and domain.

I have a Sharepoint 2013 Enterprise + SQL Server 2012 running in single server. I have a client where they are using Vmware Sphere 5.1 - having 2 virtual machines. One to run SQL server 2012 and the other run SharePoint 2013 Standard.
My question is , is it possible for me to restore .bak file from my machine to the client environment? If it is possible; may I ask for a step by step guide on how to do it?
If it is not possible, do it need to recreate the content of my SharePoint site for the client?

It is possible, but after the restore is complete you will have to redo all the security settings on all the content in the sites and in SQL since they will have a completely separate domain than yours.

Domain name/host name/external hosts

I have an external website, for argument sake: waterworld.net
I want to host the mail internally, and i have set up DNS records with my name registrar that has the A record point to my external web host, and I have created an MX record of "mail.waterworld.net" which points to the ip address of where I am hosting the mail server.
Should i give my server a name that looks like a fqdn based on my website? or should it be called something simple like "server.loc"? currently, that is what I have done.
Then in the general settings of the mail server, under Domain name (where it reads: enter the LOCAL internet domain name), should I use:
server.loc
waterworld.net, or
mail.waterworld.net
Then the next option, Hostname, I am guessing that is one of:
waterworld.net, or
mail.waterworld.net

This field sets the primary domain of the server - the domain it accepts mail for. in this case it would make sense to set 'waterworld.net'.
Then the next option, Hostname,
This sets the name it advertises itself as when sending outgoing mail. This should be mail.waterworld.net.

SharePoint 2013 Error Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131904 Some sites are working while others give this error

I can access some of the sites, but others are throwing this error code... not sure why it appears that it is every other site almost...
I can actually get this error, at a top level site, go to a sub-site and that site is displayed.
Any ideas on how to resolve this error..
the Central Admin site is down also, just a blank page is returned. no error message...
we were able to add extra space on the VM brought back the sites but now the Central Admin site throws a 404 not found...

According to your description, my understanding is that after adding extra space on the SQL server VM, the error 0x80131904 disappeared, but the CA got 404 error. Is it right?
Afer adding extra space on SQL server, make sure the SQL server is online and run SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizards, when running, select “don’t disconnect from the server farm”.
Check whether this issue occurred on other machines. If CA is working from other computer and only server is facing this issue then you need to create diableloopbackcheck registry at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa. The value should
be 1 .
Please go to IIS->the server->ISAPI and CGI Restrictions, check whether there are four 'Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010' entries. If not, you need to create the following entries with the name as 'Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2010':
                 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi\_vti_aut\author.dll
                 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi\_vti_adm\admin.dll
                 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi\shtml.dll
                 C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\isapi\owssvr.dll
Check Allow extension path of execute to allow the restriction to run automatically.
If this issue still exists, please check the log file to find more information about this issue. The path of the log file is : C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\15\LOGS.
Or you can use Event Viewer(Start->Run->event viewer) to find the log.
