Rename embedded fonts in a .pdf file

Is it is possible to rename the embedded fonts of a .pdf file?

You can safely removed the system times and helvetica.
http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html
If you use iCal, Mail and a few other Apple programs that use badges on the dock icon you will get a substitute font on the icon, but having another helvetica will fix that. You need 1 Helvetica of any type or Photoshop will not launch.
The only fonts you NEED in OS X are Lucida Grand (used in menus), Last Resort, and Keyboard. The rest can be deleted. Apple says you have to keep Kana, but if you aren't working in any Asian languages you can remove it without system instability. To be safe and follow Apple's guidelines you can keep it.

  • How to embed the needed fonts in a pdf file

There is a similar post just a few away from yours. I will suggest what I would try. Open your job settings file (press or print preferred to get all fonts) and then select the properties and the font tab. At your font to the always embed list and you will likely need to uncheck the subset box. Then save your job settings (give it a name that is meaningful to you, you can not use the settings file you started with as they are read only and I do not recommend changing that). Maybe that will do the job. Of course that is for the creation of the PDF, I forgot you were talking about a form. You might check the form field properties, but I suspect you have already tried that. Guess I don't play with forms enough. Others may be by to answer.

  • [CC][AS] Font errrors in pdf files exported from Indesign

    Hi,
With this post I would like to ask for some advice on a problem I'm having exporting Indesign files to PDF using Applescript.
I have a lot of Indesign documents, related to one particular client. All documents need to be exported to highres PDF using a preset.
When I export a file to PDF manually, the resulting PDF file is ok. No errors are displayed when opening the pdf-file in Acrobat (full and reader).
When I export the same file, with the same pdf preset, using a Applescript, the resulting PDF-file shows an error in Acrobat when it's opened.
The message "Cannot extract the embedded font '....' Some characters may not display or print correctly'.
I have this issue in Indesign CS 5.5, CS6 and CC. When trying it on a larger scale, 90% of all documents have this issue. When doing it manually, all resulting pdf-files are fine. I've double checked this with Enfocus Pitstop. All reports are fine.
    The Applescript code I'm using...
    tell active document
export format PDF type to myFilePath using "SheetCmyk_1v4_IND4" without showing options
    end tell
... pretty basic code ... I've tried placing it in a try/catch block, but no error or exception is trown.
The font refered to in the messagebox, varies from document to document...
All fonts are present the document. No fonts are missing. I've cleared all font caches, multiple times, with no luck. All fonts are checked and are not corrupt or damaged. The Os x version i'm using is 10.8
Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this issue?
    Thanx

    Hi,
I've did a lot of test and changing the subset settings didn't solve anything.
I was able to create a temporarily fix for the problem. Every time a file has to be processed, I quit and relaunch Indesign. By doing so, I lose 80% performance because it takes longer to quit and  relaunch the app, then to create the PDF-file. I went from a 3 second processing time, to 10 seconds, every time...
I think a cache problem could be the reason.
Does anyone know if you can clear the application cache using scripting, without quitting the Indesign app ?
    Thanx
    John

  • How to embed fonts in a pdf file

I have a pdf that has some fonts not embedded. I think that distiller might be able to embed the fonts when I print the pdf file, but it is inconvenient and may not always work. Is there a direct way to embed the fonts in Acrobat? Thanks!

I have the somthing like the following in Ctrl-D Fonts. They can not be embedded using the method above. I guess it is because the fonts in the original pdf are not available in the system. But how to embed the substitutes in the pdf file.
    Helvetica
        Type: Type 1
        Encoding: Custom
        Actual Font: Helvetica
        Actual Font Type: TrueType

  • Fixing fonts in a PDF file?

    Mac OSX 10.6.7, Indesign CS5.
This may be more of an Acrobat question, but here goes. I've got some huge PDF files containing musical scores, over 250 pages, that I want to place into Indesign. These were generated by a Windows program (Sibelius, if that matters). When I attempt to place the PDF file (either a page at a time or using the multi-page PDF script), I get a dialog for each page saying that fonts are missing -- Times-Italic, Times-Roman, Times-Bold. The problem is that I've got already got Times installed (Mac OSX contains a Times font in the system that FontExplorer won't let me deactivate.) Investigating the PDF file, the only embedded fonts are the ones used for musical symbols. The Times TrueType fonts are not embedded (and appear strange onscreen, probably I'm getting a substitute Adobe Serif font), and obviously neither OSX nor Indesign recognize them as the same as the fonts open in the System. FontExplorer, probably wisely, doesn't want me to open any other version of Times while there's already a set in the system library.
So, is there any way to tell Acrobat to use my Times fonts in this file instead of the non-existant Windows fonts? This is not a continuous text file, so exporting as RTF or something will not work, and I'd rather not save as tiff or jpeg because that's just silly with a file this big and graphically-intensive.
    Thanks for any help...

  • Embedding fonts in existing PDF

Is there a way to embed the fonts in a PDF? We often receive PDFs from outside sources that we don't have access to the native file. If the font is not on my system, I occasionally replace with a similar font, but it isn't always feasible. Any help would be appreciated.

    >Is there a way to embed the fonts in a PDF?
Yes, and this is normal and recommended. You mean, though, I think,
embedding late in the day. The PDF Optimizer can do that.
    > If the font is not on my system, I occasionally replace with a similar font, but it isn't always feasible.
The font would need to be on your system to be embedded, though.

  • Embedding Fonts Into A PDF

    Hi There,
I'm having trouble sending my files to the printers, my fonts is jumping...
How do i make sure that my fonts are embedded into my PDF file,
I'm using indesign cs5.5 Please can someone help me, I have distiller as well.
    Thank You
    Kind Regards

Can you check one of your problematic PDFs with Acrobat? Go to the Document Properties dialog and check the "Fonts" tab. That way you can verify if your fonts are embedded.
It's really straightforward: where Acrobat does *not* tell you a font is "(Embedded)" or "(Embedded subset)", that font is missing.
If you find you are creating files without embedding all fonts, you need to review your workflow. As I said above, you might have switched off InDesign's warnings for this.
Bear in mind it's also possible your PDFs are fine and it's your printer that needs to update.

  • Embedding fonts within a postscript file

Hi all, I want to know the best way to embed specific fonts within a postscript file. More specifically, I have several postscript procedures that will draw shapes, graphs, and make labels based on the user's input. Right now the font is hard-coded, and it works on my machine, but I want to actually embed some other fonts within the postscript so that no matter where the program is running, the fonts will work when the user prints the file.
    Thanks!

  • Remove an embeded font from a PDF

    Hi Guys
I have a bunch of PDF's where I need to remove a sertant font due to Copyright reason.
When I use the PDF optimizer and unembed the font, it replaces the font with another all over the PDF, but when I open the optimized PDF and check the properties, it still says that the font is
    embeded.
How can I completly remove the embeded font? and is there a way, where I can choose the substitude font?
Another solution would offcourse be, to transform all the text to pictures, but the quality is simply to bad to use.
I am using Adobe Pro IX for Windows 8.1 (64 bit)

Why do you think it's still embedded?
It will appear on the File Properties > Fonts list because it's defined as the typeface to use in preference when rending the file, but unless the entry says it's embedded, it's only a reference to the name.

  • Font issue opening PDF file in Illustrator

I was given a PDF file to make typographical changes. Because of the complexity of the file it would be easier to make the changes in Illustrator rather than edit the text in Acrobat. BUT the font (Arial regular, bold, bold italic) defaults to boxes -meaning the symbol when a font isn't open or available. I have tried highlighting the text and manually changing the font but I still get the boxes. I am not able to change the font to any font that I have activated in my system.
    I am using IA-CS3 on a MacPro with 10.5.2.
Another note- the PDF was created on a PC with program called Vantage. It is used by our order-entry department.
I am stumped as this is how I have changed PDF files in the past.
    Any ideas?

It is Arial Regular, Bold, Bold Italic, Italic. I think it has to do with the file coming from a PC. I get an error message telling me these fonts are missing even though they are on my system. With Illustrator it doesn't offer a replacement font when the error message comes up. After the file is opened, I highlight the text (which is the boxes I previously mentioned)and replace it with another font from my system. I still get the boxes.
When I paste the text in TexEdit nothing shows no matter what font or color I tell it to use.
I have never seen anything like this.
