Rename folder... cause havoc??

I have many iMovie/iDvd project folders that I would like to rename. Inside each are the drop zone pics, jpgs, drop zone clips and the main iMovieProject file along with the iDVD dvdproj file.
If I rename the folder, will this cause a huge "I cant file that--" problem for iMovie/Dvd?
If so, is there an *easy way* to resolve the folder contents problem? I dont want to relink tons of files...

a folder I created to keep all the DVD parts in
Can you be more specific about what is in that folder. as I don't understand the description 'DVD parts'?

  • Can too large a folder cause issues and effect performace of my Mac Pro

Hi, I have a 180 gb folder filled with important data within my Home folder. This folder has a many subfolders as well. The folder is on my startup drive and where I have Snow Leopard installed. Can too large a folder cause issues with my mac and effect performance? Thanks

another way to ask, would you make better use of, and improve I/O and performance, if you used your other drive bays? yes.
Boot drives with even less than 50% free is probably not a good idea. All depends on whether 200GB is on 1TB or on 500GB drive. And how fragmented free space even.
Lifting, loading and writing or copying 4GB files of course does have an impact, so if you work with 2GB files in CS5....
Having a dedicated type boot drive, media drive (and isolate media and library files) as well as scratch drive is normally done with Mac Pro.
The biggest bang in performance: lean mean SSD boot drive.

How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library? I can't double click on folder, when I right click it just gives options to erase. Can someone help?

I think you may have misunderstood - the question is regarding renaming a project "folder", not a project name.
Still, the accepted answer here makes no sense to me at all - it's about renaming an event. So we're all confused ;-)
BTW as of 10.0.5, I still cannot rename a project folder while background tasks are running - no clue is given that this is what's going on, second-clicking on the folder just (frustratingly) does nothing. When background tasks finish, it works again.

Hello I have inherited this new job and I am trying to
understand it asap. I am a complete beginner to html,CF and web

Yes I grabbed some books, but if you can help me. I really
    appreciate is.
    I have this file structure
    Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
    Pointing to it
    http://myserver/Myreport/
Here you find a MyReport folder
    And find 2 .cfm
    1. Index
    2. version.cfm
    I have 2 BIG questions, ok 3
HOW DO YOU MAKE A PAGE THAT WILL CONTAIN
    The link of this MyReport.
A main page. In other words.
Main page that has a text Main report
    For name of the division_
Then a link called My reports. And Your report
    Prefereably sorted

HOW DO I CHANGE THE FOLDER

    Pointing to it
    http://myserver/Myreport/
    TO
    Z:\NewExport\repmining\myreport
    Then point to it

    without repdocs.
    Please excuse me.
    I am a real beginner.
    Thanks .
    Hope someone replies soon.
    Take care.

OK, I think I understand your questions, so here goes:
    quote:
HOW DO YOU MAKE A PAGE THAT WILL CONTAIN
    The link of this MyReport.
Simply have a link on a page, ex:
    <a href ="LINK URL">LINK TEXT</a>,
As for your question on your reports, I do not understand
    what you are asking
    quote:
HOW DO I CHANGE THE FOLDER
    FROM
    Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
    Pointing to it
    http://myserver/Myreport/
    TO
    Z:\NewExport\repmining\myreport
    Then point to it
    http://myserver/ repmining\myreport
If you are directly connected to the server, just create a
folder in (from what it looks like) Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\ that is
    the new folwer name, ex:
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\NEW_folder and put files into it. If you
are now directly connected to the server, use a program like FTP
server to connect via FTP and do the same.
    quote:
WHY IS THE REPDOCS NOT TYPED IN THE BROWSER WHEN VIEWING THE

    in other words:
    Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
    Is typed
    http://myserver/Myreport/
    this is simply because
    http://myserver/Myreport/ is
set to point at the folder Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport therefore
    it looks like
http://myserver is set to the folder
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\ anything you add into a folder after that will
    be included.

  • Page properties and logo missing after renaming folder

When renaming one of my folders I got the message that the
application is updating all links. The renamed pages look normal on
my desktop when viewed in a browser. I uploaded the renamed folder

You renamed a folder and didn't upload your images into the

For example, you say your logo would be here -

  • I can't name/rename folder tracks

This is just a quickie — I can't seem to name/rename folder tracks as I can instrument, bus, aux etc. tracks by clicking on its name in the respective Object boxes. This doesn't seem to be set-up specific as the same problem occurs on both my PowerBook and my MacBook. Is this a known bug? Is there a work around?
Note that I have aaaaaaaaaall the updates.
    Thanks fellahs

    Hello d. reamonn
You can name/rename folders exactly like you can tracks.
There are two possibilities: Hold down OPTION key and click on the word Folder. A box will appear and you type in the name you want.
Or for a second naming of the folder do the same operation with COMMAND and click

I want to remove yosimite and install Snow leopard from dvd as yosimite runs worse than a Windows OS.
Can it be done, what do I need to do please?
Examples of faults,  even with a 1tb solid state drive and 16 gig of ram, it is incredibly slow.  Took four hours to install Logic 8 last night, I still have to reinstall logic 9 upgrade.   On the White MacBooks I got both 8 and 9 installed in under an hour and a half all up.
Beeping on startup means failed RAM.
Slowness is usually caused by incompatible third-party system modifications.

  • Renaming filmroll caused roll to be moved to end of album?

ok, call me anal, but this is really bugging me and if anyone can help, i'd appreciate it so much...
i have in a smart album, several film rolls of my kid. they appear to be mostly chronologically ordered, but in a strange way. most of the rolls are titled "John [fill in date]" but there's a couple rolls here and there, like "Disneyland" that don't start with "John" and they're not ordered alphabetically, but rather by date. so for example, i've got john 05.20.05, then john 09.30.05, then disneyland (which is dated 11.15.05, then continuing on with john 01.31.06, etc., etc.
there is one random film roll of my my sonogram pix that is at the end of all the other rolls, which, chronologically is incorrect, but it doesn't bother me b/c i never look at the sonograms, of course, so it's logical to me--i've got the filmrolls of my kid and then the sonograms.
what happened was, i renamed one of the rolls so that it would say "john's 2nd birthday". when i renamed it, it moved the roll to the end, AFTER the sonograms roll. this is driving me nuts, esp. since the roll entitled "john's 1st bday" is in the right place in the order of the rolls, chronologically.
i went to sort> and it says >filmrolls. but i don't want to sort by date b/c it removes the name of the filmrolls, which i find extremely handy (they were the folder names when i was on a pc). i tried renaming it back to the original name but it still keeps the roll at the end. is there a fix for this? what exactly does it mean anyway when it says "sort by filmroll?" it doesn't appear to be by name or date of the rolls in this case. sorry for the ocd request!! thanks!!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't have a solution to your problem but wanted to alert you to an issue with Smart Albums that could cause problems. This was with an earlier version of iPhoto 6 so don't know if the current version has fixed it. Check you this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2294709&#2294709

  • Problems in rename folder using CVI

Hi, I am just using "rename" function to rename my folder name. Normally this function goes well.
However, if user already opens a files in the folder(maybe sub-folder) using some other program, this rename will always cause a run-time error.
    How can I avoid this?
    Thanks in advance
    Gavin

This is an error raised from the OS and not dependent from CVI; you can receive the same error even in Explorer (but only if the file is opened for modifications) and depends on the fact that the OS may come into trouble while saving a file after folder rename, so it forbids it.
I suppose the only resource you have is to warn the user to close the file before your program can continue.
Proud to use LW/CVI from 3.1 on.

  • Renamed folder now cant see pictures in library

    Ahoy there,
i renamed some folders in my iPhoto picture database to organize my computer a bit but now when i browse through the photos (in iPhoto) they are hidden until i full screen them. once full screen they are fine though
    know how to fix it?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
*It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss*
The simple solution is to return things to exactly the way they were. If you cannot, do you have an up-to-date back up? Otherwise you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Here's what's gone wrong: iPhoto is a database. When you renamed the folders you changed the Path to the files and now iPhoto cannot find them. Think of it this way. You've hired a filing clerk, and this clerk has organised all your pics. Now, when the filing clerk has gone home, you've re-arranged things, and next morning when you ask the clerk to give you a pic, the clerk can't find them because you changed the system around.
Everything a user needs to do is done in the iPhoto Window - there is simply no need to ever go into the iPhoto Library.
I assume you renamed these folders to make the files easier to find. Well there are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Events in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library package file (Right click on it in the Pictures Folder -> Show Package Contents).
You can move photos between Events, you can rename Events, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Event Name using the Info Pane, the Event Folder in iPhoto Library/Originals will also have the new name.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser. Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
If you want to use an other application as an editor then: You can set Photoshop (or any image editor)as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.
    Regards

  • Renaming movies causing Itunes to freeze (sort of a fix)

When I tried renaming movies in Itunes, it would freeze, leaving me no choice but to force quit. I originally went on here asking for help. I tried deleting the movie, renaming the file, and adding it back. Nope. I had to edit some clips in Movie Maker anyways, so while importing, I made sure the name was what I wanted. Nope again. Then I deleted my trash because I was sure my old movie files were in there. However, unlike deleting music, where it asks to keep the file or move to the trash, it'll delete the movie, but the file won't be moved to the trash. I assume this until I did a quick command+F to find the old files of the movie. I moved those to the trash, then emptied it. For some reason, I have duplicates of the same exact file, so make sure you don't accidentally delete the one you need. *(I found this helped: 1. move the file you need to a folder 2. Right click, check "get info" and move only identical ones (by date and time) at a time to the desktop. If the names are the same, it'll ask something about replacing the file. Say yes. 3. Move to the trash.
TL;DR delete the file from Itunes, find old files of the mp4 file on your computer, move those to the trash, make sure you're not deleting the ones you need*, empty the trash, add back into Itunes.
Unfortunately, I wasn't able to find anything for Itunes freezing up- I think that's something Apple has to fix (I even updated Itunes). I just found how to rename a file, which unfortunately, is not the click-once-and-edit-on-the-spot way, but hey, it worked. Honestly, I don't see it being fixed anytime soon.

If Itunes match fails to complete its scan process and is stuck in steps 1, 2 or 3 the following steps usually clears problems:
    1. Hold option key (Mac) or shift key (PC) whilst turning of match. This clears genius/match cache.
    2. Close iTunes. Optional - Reboot computer.
    3. Open itunes and turn on match. Select "add this Computer" and see if process completes.
If you see the following when you go into the match screen and it has been likes this for a while, I suggest that you stop process and go to menu > store and select  update Itunes match:
You should see this if you progess on from "Sending information" to "waiting for Apple.. This should happen within minutes:
You should also add icloud status column to song view - go to menu > view> view options and tick box. This will tell you what has been Matched, Uploaded, Purchased, Inelligible, Duplicate or Waiting.
Tracks that are "Waiting" may include one or more corrupt tracks. You may have to remove all "Waiting" tracks from your library as it is not always clear which ones are causing the problem. Large / Long tracks that will be uploaded may be the cause of the problem.
Once you have removed the tracks, follow steps 1 to 3 again and see if process completes. You can then readd the tracks, a small number at a time until all your music is added.
If problem persists, you should consider creating an alternative itunes library. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1589.
This creates a new blank library. Turn on match and Select "add this Computer". Once process is complete you will see all the music that you have in match. If you see tracks with "waiting" Icloud status and are "greyed out", this may be the reason why the match process does not complete. Delete those tracks and go back to your original library. You may need to follow steps 1 to 3 above again.

  • Emails from iPhone going to Junk folder caused by signature

I recently came across an issue when sending emails from my iphone using my business account.  When I send emails to users of Outlook 2010, my emails go straight to their junk email folder, but for other versions of Outlook this does not occur.  I appears that my email signature is causing this issue as I deleted my signature and the problem was solved.  I want to be able to keep my signature in my emails that are coming from my iPhone, but I don't understand why the signature is triggering the junk email filter in Outlook 2010.  Has anyone had this problem?

I don't understand why the signature is triggering the junk email filter
Because Outlook is interpreting the text / content / formatting of your signature as that which could be viewed as junk.
This has nothing to do with your iPhone, but is an Outlook "issue"

  • Can't open or rename folder... but not a permission issue

This one has me puzzled, and I can't figure it.
I have a fair background in unix and command line interfaces, so I've tried all of the usual fixes with chmod, chown, chgrp and everything else I can throw at it without luck.  It's not a locked/hidden file, and it doesn't have any extended attributes.  Tried repairing permissions.  No luck.  Drive verifies OK.
The problem folder (one of many) came from an Active Directory mount via my network at my office.  On the server (and on the folder when I copy to my desktop), the folder is a pale, light-blue colour and can't be opened or modified from the finder.
I can use a terminal window to get into the folder and access it via command line (works fine).  Can move and rename it via terminal (again, no problem), but always light-blue and can't do anything with it from the Finder.  Opening with "Get Info" shows that I own the file, and that I have read/write permission (and not locked).
Even if I copy the folder to a FAT32 USB stick, it exhibits the same behaviour where I can't open or modify it.  There is no problem accessing the folder on a PC.  If I duplicate the folder on a PC, the duplicated folder works fine in the finder, and is normal (however the original is light blue and can't be changed).
    Totally stumped.  Anyone have ideas?

What version of the software is this? Did you update it?

  • Folder causes Finder to crash

    Hi,
    Any ideas?
    Dual 500Mhz Powermac G4 OS 10.4.11 1GB SDRAM
I have a folder of Excel spreadsheets - being self-employed they are invoices, mostly single pages. All worked okay for several years until I upgraded to Microsoft's Office:Mac 2008.
Now the finder crashes if I click on this folder or try to open it - I can find no way to access these files now. Even transferring the folder, via a portable hard drive, to another Mac has not solved the problem.
Creating new spreadsheets with the new version of Excel, it will not allow me to "save as". Are these problems all related?
    Cheers
    Martin

    martbedd wrote:
Trying to open the folder with "open" in Terminal - same crashing result??
Yes, that's not really a surprise - open just opens the target with the application registered as default in MacOS. That's fine in the case of jpegs, but the default application for opening folders is Finder.
In Finder, make a new directory in your home director and rename it "foo" (because names with spaces in are less clearly readable in Finder).
    Open Terminal.
Type `cp -rvf ` (no quotes, with the spaces).
Drag & drop the folder with the spreadsheets in to the terminal.
(hopefully you can do this without Finder crashing - let me know if you can't)
When you drop the folder you should see the full "/path/to/the/folder" now shown in the terminal, and the terminal's cursor should be one space after the end of the word. Delete that last space, then type "/* " (forward-slash, star, space). The command in the terminal window will now read:
    `cp -rvf /path/to/the/folder/* '
(there will be the prompt before this in the window, the bit that was already there before you started typing, probably something like "Martin's imac $" - don't worry about that it, it's not part of the command).
Now drag and drop the folder "foo" to the terminal and let go. In Terminal hit enter and you should see a bunch of lines go past saying "copying spreadsheet.xls from x to foo".
Take a look in the foo folder & see if you can read your files.
    Stroller.
