Rename folder events are in
Is it possible to rename the folder my events are in?
When I uploaded footage of volleyball tournaments taken throughout the season they were added to a folder called '2011' and each event date had a sub-folder with a star icon which I was able to rename for each individual tournament.
Is it possible to rename the one that says 2011 so I can keep club video separate from high school?
No. It is possible to have subfolders in your Projects, but not in your Events.
The 2011 is actually not a folder. It is more like a metadata tag that groups all events with a creation date that starts in 2011 into one place. If you look in your Events folder in the Finder, you will not see a 2011 folder.
You might consider renaming the events with CLUB or HS in the name so you can quickly tell them apart.
Be sure to do this in iMovie so that any project which references the renamed event would be updated.

How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library?
How to rename folder in Final Cut Pro X project library? I can't double click on folder, when I right click it just gives options to erase. Can someone help?
I think you may have misunderstood - the question is regarding renaming a project "folder", not a project name.
Still, the accepted answer here makes no sense to me at all - it's about renaming an event. So we're all confused ;-)
BTW as of 10.0.5, I still cannot rename a project folder while background tasks are running - no clue is given that this is what's going on, second-clicking on the folder just (frustratingly) does nothing. When background tasks finish, it works again. -
Why can I not rename an event in iphoto? It keeps reverting to "untitled event!"
Every time I upload photos to iphoto and it creates a new event, I am somehow unable to rename that event. I double click and delete the default label, "untitled event" and even as I type the new name it will immediately revert to say "untitled event." This sometimes happens even at the same time as I type, like the computer and my own typing are fighting against each other.
Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try renaming again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

My hard drive crashed recently and we took it to apple to get repaired. The apple employees said that they would have to replace the hard drive but they didn't have the equipment to get the data off my hard drive. So I took it to a computer store who had the right equipment after a month and a half of waiting they finally got all the data off my hard drive and put it on an external hard drive (Seagate Expansion Portable Drive). I then took it back to apple who replaced the hard drive. Now I'm in the process of reinstalling everything. I have never done a Time Machine back up or backed my laptop up to . Which I now will do very often once I've reinstalled everything. I have reinstalled all of my desktop images and folders as well as my iTunes library with no issues. However when i went to reinstall my iPhoto library it came up blank. I then Rebuilt the library several times and this was the result.
It shows that the photos and events are there but there are no thumbnails and if you click on an image or video nothing comes up.
Please help i have three years worth of images from holidays on here and would be devastated if i lost them.iPhoto cannot find the thumbnails or the original pictures.
Go to your iPhoto Library in the Pictures Folder.
Right-click on it and from the resulting menu, choose 'Show Package Contents'.
This will bring you inside the iPhoto Library package. There you should see a Folder called Masters. Within that, there should be folder containing your actual photos.
Are they there? -
HT204402 Renaming an event in iMovie and yellow warning triangles
Im new to the world of apple and iMovie and have made the mistake of completing a project and then renaming my events to tidy things up. I've since been told that this was a stupid thing to do and my project cannot locate the footage from the event (even though the footage still exists in the newly renamed event folder).
How can I relinking the footage back so that the project recognises it again? Or will I have to create it all over again? The project was two hours long so I really want to try a d avoid redoing it.I've just found a solution to this problem, a big thanks to David Burwell:
Close iMovie
Back up iMovie files just in case we blow something up!!!
Download "Plist Edit Pro" from Apple (see below)
http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/development_tools/plisteditpro.html
Go to the folder where your iMovie Project is stored, mine was at...
User/Movies/iMovie Projects
Right mouse click on the Video Project (mine was called Rachel Video)
Select "Show Package Contents" from the drop down menu
You'll see a number of Folders and Files
Right mouse click on the file called "Project"
Select "Open With" and browse to the "Plist Edit Pro" file you just downloaded (if you don't already have it)
Expand the $objects list
I scrolled down until i found the missing music file (Ship.mp3 - it will list the entire path)
If you know the file name you can Edit/Find it instead
Change the location pointer of the file (new path and file name)
Select File/Save from the Plist Edit Pro menu
Quit Plist Edit Pro
Open the project in iMovie -
My Iphone calendar events are not showing up in iCal when I sync? Syncing has not been an issue till today?
I found this tip from a 2011 discussion on the same topic.
Open iCal and backup or export your entries. Make a note of the fie name and location, you're going to need them in a minute. Once your backup/export is completed, close the iCal application.
Open Finder and remove everything inside the "Username/Library/Calendars" folder. For instance, if your username is "Joe", then move everything inside the "Joe/Library/Calendars" folder.
Open the iSync application. It's located in the "/Applications/" folder. Once iSync is opened, go into the iSync Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) and push/click the "Reset Sync History" button. Then, close the iSync application.
Re-Open the iCal application and Import (File -> Import) a new calendar. When prompted, use your notes from Step #1 to select the file your created earlier. Once completed, close the iCal application (you should have all of your calendar entries back.)
Open the iTunes application and connect your Apple iPhone to the computer.
Within the Advanced section of the Info tab for the Apple iPhone, check the box the overwrites/replaces the Calendar data on the Apple iPhone.
Click the Apple/Sync button. New, modified and deleted entries should now be syncing correctly.
That's it! You should be all set and iTunes, iCal and our Apple iPhone should all be playing nicely as friends again. We've used the exact method to repair our own Apple iPhone at least once... maybe even twice. -
I have 30+ iPhoto Libraries, so every time I open one, iPhoto wants to copy the 3 events I had out there when MobileMe shut down. Those 3 events are already saved in the appropriate iPhoto libraries. Wish I had deleted them on MobileMe! How do I turn this process off?
As Larry mentioned I use a different DAM (digital asset management) appliclation, Media Pro 1. For other possible DAM apps visit The DAM Forum which is for professional photographers. There the various apps are discussed along with workflows. If nothing else you'll get some good information on managing digital "negatives".
Media Pro lets you manage the folder organization of your photos and write metadata, keywords, titles, and other metadata directly back to the files. No matter what app you go with have a backup plan in place to keep current backups of your source photos on separate hard drives. -
Events are automatically being split
When importing a set of photos, iphoto is splitting up my photos and placing my set into two events. To be clear, I want the chosen imported photos to go into one event, but iphoto is splitting them up. What am I doing wrong??
Also, should I reunite the split photos into one event as I have seen that there are issues in moving photos in iphoto. Please advise, and many thanks in advance...
Message was edited by: j sanchezIf those photos are coming from a digital camera they will be split into multiple events as determined by what you choose in iPhoto's General preference pane.
However, if the photos are in a folder and are imported from the Finder by dragging that folder into iPhoto's window they will all remain in the same event, regardless of what the time frame is set. The resulting event will also have the same title as the folder. -
Events are not grouped by date
Recently I had a crash on my iPhoto and had to basically re-input all 60,000 photos. All went well and iPhoto working okay now. Only issue is the events are not grouped by date anymore. meaning I have several events that are on the same date. All the setting appear to be correct.
Is there a way to have iPhoto regroup the events all by date? The only way to sort events is the view menu --> sort events - Using it you can re-sort events a few ways
Events are not categorized so there is no way to "re-categorize" them
What you need to do is to restore your backup of the iPhoto library from before the crash that caused you to import your masters folder into iPhoto
And probably if you had rebuild the library after the crash you would have been OK - Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - from the resulting first aid window repair permissions and if necessary rebuild your database -- this will not help on the new library that you created - it has to be done on the bad library that resulted from the crash

New events are empty, should contain photos
This morning, I downloaded a bunch of vacation photos to iPhoto. I created several events (which are showing in iPhoto) and I even used some of the photos this morning in a printed document. Since then, my husband signed onto the mac mini as a guest...and then I agreed to the iTunes update this morning. Now, the events are showing in my library but no photos are included in any of them. And of course I deleted the photos from my cameras. I have iPhoto 11 and a mac mini running Mac OS X version 10.7.5. I'm not well versed in computer language, but I'm really hoping to figure out what the heck happened to my photos. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Since only one option can be run at a time start with Option #3, followed by #4 and then #1 as needed.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
1 - download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
2 - click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
3 - Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option.
4 - In the next window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
5 - Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments. However, books, calendars, cards and slideshows will be lost. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

New Events are appearing from Flickr Albums
New Events are being created from the pictures that are located in some (but not all) of my flickr synced albums. The flickr albums then are synced with the photos in these events. So I can't just delete the event as it then deletes all of the photos that are synced. Any help would be great in resolving the issue. My current idea is that I will just stop syncing with flickr but I really enjoy the feature.

Folder Titles are cut off.
Hi Guys,
I need some advice on why my album folders are not complete but only cut off. Long Album titles are reduced.Hi Garth,
If the *Keep iTunes Music folder organised* feature is enabled iTunes will rename files and folders that are within the iTunes Music folder. If you add files to the library or make changes to tags the files will be automatically renamed to reflect this. The general layout is:
<Artist>\<Album>\[<Disc No.>-]<Track No.> <Track Name>.<Ext>
If *Part of a Compilation* is true then a value of Compilations will be used instead of <Artist> above. Likewise, if the *Album Artist* field is set this will be used to set the <Artist> value which will make a difference if there are guest artists credited on the album or have a Various Artists album not marked as a compilation. The <Disc No.> is only prepended to the filename if there is more than one disc in the collection. All characters which are invalid within filesnames are replaced with an underscore. File & folder names are truncated to 40 characters inclusive of extention. If two or more files would have the same filename, the second filename is (where neccesary) shortened by a couple of charaters and given a trailing index of 1, the next 2 and so on. (Earlier versions of iTunes would replace the existing file with the new one of the same name potentially destroying data - although long since fixed this is another reason for my preference.)
Whether disc & track numbers are included in the filenames used to be optional within the iTunes preferences and, if desired, can still be disabled via a suitable hack.
If you disable the *Keep iTunes Music folder organised* option these rules will still be used for any music that you download from the store or rip from CDs. Likewise if you have the option *Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library* enabled and import files from outside the iTunes Music folder, the new copies will be created with the same naming conventions. What will be different is that if you make a change in iTunes this will not be reflected by updating the filename. If however you name files according to your own conventions and then add them to the library, iTunes will not rename them. Unlike Windows Media Player, iTunes will lose track of any files you manually rename so if you do go down this road you then have the extra effort of removing and reimporting files that you choose to modify.
I should make it clear that manually organising my music folders is a personal preference and not one I necessarily recommend to others - it's a lot more effort for no real gain. For a long while I had an iRiver H140 which I synchronised with my music folders. To make the iRiver easier to use I created a folder structure which separated out some sections of my library from others e.g. Comedy, Classical, Soundtracks etc. I also set my own rules for invalid character replacement and for compilations appended the artist to the track name. Although I no longer use the iRiver I prefer to keep this structure.
I used to keep the bulk of my library in the Windows "My Music" folder and only let iTunes manage the podcasts however the last time I did a full rebuild of the library I put everything inside the iTunes Music in order to take advantage of the ability to relocate a self-contained set of iTunes library folders. I know I should really commit to iTunes and stop worrying about exactly how my data is orgainsed but there it is... we can't change our nature.

Questions from a beg. CF,HTML, Renaming folder/path and
adding main page.
Hello I have inherited this new job and I am trying to
understand it asap. I am a complete beginner to html,CF and web
development overall
Yes I grabbed some books, but if you can help me. I really
appreciate is.
I have this file structure
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
Pointing to it
http://myserver/Myreport/
Here you find a MyReport folder
And find 2 .cfm
1. Index
2. version.cfm
I have 2 BIG questions, ok 3
HOW DO YOU MAKE A PAGE THAT WILL CONTAIN
The link of this MyReport.
A main page. In other words.
Main page that has a text Main report
For name of the division_
Then a link called My reports. And Your report
Prefereably sorted
· My reports.
· Your report
HOW DO I CHANGE THE FOLDER
FROM
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
Pointing to it
http://myserver/Myreport/
TO
Z:\NewExport\repmining\myreport
Then point to it
http://myserver/ repmining\myreport
WHY IS THE REPDOCS NOT TYPED IN THE BROWSER WHEN VIEWING THE
MYREPORT.( i dont have to type (repdocs)to view the report?)
in other words:
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
Is typed
http://myserver/Myreport/
without repdocs.
Please excuse me.
I am a real beginner.
Thanks .
Hope someone replies soon.
Take care.OK, I think I understand your questions, so here goes:
quote:
HOW DO YOU MAKE A PAGE THAT WILL CONTAIN
The link of this MyReport.
Simply have a link on a page, ex:
<a href ="LINK URL">LINK TEXT</a>,
As for your question on your reports, I do not understand
what you are asking
quote:
HOW DO I CHANGE THE FOLDER
FROM
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
Pointing to it
http://myserver/Myreport/
TO
Z:\NewExport\repmining\myreport
Then point to it
http://myserver/ repmining\myreport
If you are directly connected to the server, just create a
folder in (from what it looks like) Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\ that is
the new folwer name, ex:
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\NEW_folder and put files into it. If you
are now directly connected to the server, use a program like FTP
server to connect via FTP and do the same.
quote:
WHY IS THE REPDOCS NOT TYPED IN THE BROWSER WHEN VIEWING THE
MYREPORT.( i dont have to type (repdocs)to view the report?)
in other words:
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport
Is typed
http://myserver/Myreport/
this is simply because
http://myserver/Myreport/ is
set to point at the folder Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\MyReport therefore
it looks like
http://myserver is set to the folder
Z:\ToExport\RepDocs\ anything you add into a folder after that will
be included.
I hop eI answered some of your questions -
Is it possible to have sub-folder events inside an event on iPhoto?
Is it at all possible to have an Event (eg. Pets) then have sub-events inside that event (eg. Dog, Cat etc.) in iPhoto?
I can't seem to find anything...
Any help greatly appreciated. No it's not.
Basically, Events are organisation for those who can't be bothered. SImple date and time grouping of photos.
If you want more, now it's time to explore Albums and Folders.
So, a Folder called 'Animals' and within it, two Albums, one for 'Dog' and one for 'Cat'
Albums are much more flexible than events, you can arrange the photos within albums with much more flexibility. A photo can be in multiple albums using no extra disk space, whereas to have a photo in multiple Events requires a duplicate file and so on.
FWIW here's a canned answer I use to illustrate some of the organisation possibilities of iPhoto...
I use Events simply as big buckets of Photos: Spring 08, July - Nov 06 are typical Events in my Library. I use keywords and Smart Albums extensively. I title the pics broadly.
I keyword on a
Who
What
Where basis (The When is in the photos's Exif metadata). I also rate the pics on a 1 - 5 star basis.
Using this system I can find pretty much find any pic in my 50k library in a couple of seconds.
So, for example, I have a batch of pics titled 'Seattle 08' and a typical keywording might include: John, Anne, Landscape, mountain, trees, snow. With a rating included it's so very easy to find the best pics we took at Mount Rainier.
File -> New Smart Album
set it to 'All"
title contains Seattle
keyword is mountain
keyword is snow
rating is 5 stars
Or, want a chronological album of John from birth to today?
New Smart Album
Keyword is John
Set the View options to Sort By Date Ascending
Want only the best pics?
add Rating is greater than 4 stars
The best thing about this system is that it's dynamic. If I add 50 more pics of John to the Library tomorrow, as I keyword and rate them they are added to the Smart Album.
In the end, organisation is about finding the pics. The point is to make locating that pic or batch of pics findable fast. This system works for me. -
Page properties and logo missing after renaming folder
When renaming one of my folders I got the message that the
application is updating all links. The renamed pages look normal on
my desktop when viewed in a browser. I uploaded the renamed folder
to my website and found to my chagrin that the page logo and page
properties are missing. I had changed nothing else in the website
files or folders. Can anyone tell what went wrong? You renamed a folder and didn't upload your images into the
renamed folder.
For example, you say your logo would be here -
http://www.onejackdaw.com/My_NA_Birds_Gallery/content/logo.png
but it's actually still here -
