Rename master "file name"

Is there a way to rename the master file name?
Currently, the only way to do this is:
1. Import the files into a folder first and rename the files. Then
2. Import the rename files into Aperture.
or
3. Delete files from aperture but do not empty
4. Recover these files from the trash. Rename them.
5. Import them back into Aperture.
This is a pain in the * process.
Any other ideas?

One of my favorite OS X tools is "A Better Finder Rename" - (http://www.publicspace.net/ABetterFinderRename/index.html). I used to have my own Applescript to rename, but this ran circles around mine.
Before Aperture, I'd import to a folder, do a simple culling (via Bridge), then rename everything to my conventions (D05_01322.DCR, etc).
If you want to import directly from a card reader WITH renamed images, you can try this utility as another method. Yesterday I used it to do a simple experiment to allow a Master file to be renamed BEFORE importing into Aperture:
1. Be sure to open your preferences and set the "When camera is connected, open:" to "No application".
2. Mount your card reader with card you want imported.
3. Select the files you want renamed, then open "A Better Finder Rename" and select to Change "only the file name".
4. Inside Aperture, import the renamed Master images with your personalized names.

  • Renaming Master files

In the release documentation it mentions that you can rename the Master Files(not referring to naming versions, but actually renaming the master file) in version 1.5. Does anybody know how to do this? I can't seem to find any mention of it.
    thanks

Well they've kinda almost maybe fixed it in 1.5.1. If you relocate the images out of the Library it will rename the files as well as rename the file name inside of Aperture. Here is where it gets funky. It will not rename the folder and all associated information within the Aperture Library. If you consolidate the images back into Aperture it comes up with a notice stating the the images will be moved back into the Library and will be renamed to their original name, but the file name within Aperture (not within the package) shows the new filename, not the original. Go figure. You would think they could simply get all the related info to change names also....

  • Import; Rename Master File; Why Isn't It Red?

    Importing an image.
Choose Rename Files, Version Name: Custom Name with Index
    Enter: Custom Name Text
    Check: Rename Master Master File
    Show: File Info
Version Name looks to be correct. It has the custom name I entered and an index number and it's red indicating I've changed the Version name.
Why is the File Name not the same as the Version name? I checked Rename Master File.
Why isn't the File Name red? I'm changing it?
After I import the files, I checked the Metadata and it appears the File Name is correct.
Is this a bug in Aperture?
    Or am I missing something?

    I'm having the same problem.
Gosh, I hope somebody comes along and helps us out on this.

  • Why don't my iphoto event names match up to my iphoto master file names?

    Yosemite 10.10
    iPhoto 9.6
    MacBook Pro 2009
I recently downloaded Yosemite, which has slowed my laptop down significantly. This has prompted me to transfer all large files - photos, movies and music off my laptop and onto an external hard drive (in addition to my time machine backup hard drive).
I was instructed (at the Apple Store) to open Finder then Pictures > iPhoto Library. Then to right click on the iPhoto Library folder and select 'show package contents', this reveals a large list of folders but I understand that the Masters folder is the one to care about with respect to back ups. When I open up Masters I can see 8 folders labelled 2007 - 2014. In each of these folders are other folders housing all the jpeg files.
    THE PROBLEM:
For some reason in the 2007-2009 folders the Master file names match up to the Event names in iPhoto. This is great and makes sense! However, after 2009 everything gets really messed up in the Masters folder - despite my iPhoto Library being meticulously organised into Events that are all labelled. For example, when I open up the 2014 folder the path looks like this 2014 > 10 > 06 > 20141006-214510 > which then houses the jpeg images. It looks to me like these folders represent upload events as opposed to the Events that I organised them into in the front end of iPhoto. WHY!?!
    THE QUESTIONS:
Why is this happening? And can I fix it so that it doesn't happen when I next import photos into iPhoto?
Should I just stop using iPhoto?
What happens if I change the names of the Master folders in the back end of iPhoto to reflect the Event names in the front end? Would it be better to just organise them on my hard drive?
    Thank you

    1. It's not a problem as you never ever access your photos in this way.
    2. If you want to back up your original photos you do this via the Export function: File -> Export
    This User Tip
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4921
has details of the options in the Export dialogue.
    3. None of this saves space on your HD. To do that you need to move your Library from the HD to the external:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    a. Quit iPhoto
    b. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    c. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    d. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
    4. That particular Apple Genius isn't.
    As to the specific questions:
Why is this happening? And can I fix it so that it doesn't happen when I next import photos into iPhoto?
It's happening as that is how iPhoto works and there is nothing ti fix. Exporting makes the issue redundant.
Should I just stop using iPhoto?
    Why?
What happens if I change the names of the Master folders in the back end of iPhoto to reflect the Event names in the front end?
You'll corrupt the Library. And it's unnecessary.
Would it be better to just organise them on my hard drive?
    No.

  • Can We rename BAD File name in SQL Loader

    Hi All,
Can we rename BAD File name in SQL loader?
    If yes, how?
    Thanks in Advance,
    S

    Hi,
You can rename the bad file before running SQL*Loader, or specify the name of the bad file using the BADFILE clause followed by a filename. If you do not specify a name for the bad file, the name defaults to the name of the datafile with an extension or file type of .bad

  • Rename the file names

    Hello OTN Help,
I need to modify my old existing question.
    Reason is as follow:
One of my question I entered some thing which is not appropriate for my company policy and they want from me to rename the file names.
Please advice me what should I do?
    thanks

Are you talking about changing the question that you have entered on OTN? If so, I guess you will need to contact Oracle support and have them to request OTN admin to do so ... good luck.

  • Just To Be Clear, Filename is the Master file name

Aperture has a Version Name field and a File Name field.
    But, no Master Name field.
That's because the Master Name is the File Name.
    Correct?

I was very confused by things like this, but have come to terms ( ) with most of Aperture's nomenclature.
In this case I think it's mostly simple elision.  The full term should perhaps be "Master file name".  "Master" is useful, because while all Masters are files, not all files are Masters.  By the same token, "file" is redundant, and in use is regularly dropped.
Your question seems to be, then, "Why is the label 'File name' used on the Metadata tab of the Inspector instead of 'Master name'?"
I (of course) don't know.  The interface designers might have avoided some confusion by using "Master file name" -- but that might have made things worse: is that the name of the "Master file", or is it some kind of master "file name"?  (The User Manual makes things even worse: one finds "Master file name", "Master name", "file name" and "Master filename".)  Ultimately, I suspect the decisions were made based on the likely frame of reference.  If the frame of reference is inside Aperture, "Master" is emphasized.  If the frame of reference is outside Aperture, "file" is emphasized.
Would you be more comfortable with this label on the Metadata tab of the Inspector:  "Master file"?

  • Flickr changing Master File name in sync'd albums

Has anyone noticed that when syncing with Flickr from Aperture that the sync'd images get altered Master File names? This doesn't have an effect on the images in the Aperture projects, only on the images in the sync'd folders under Flickr. I just find this odd as the MobileMe sync'd images don't get their Master File names altered. Has anyone else noticed this?
Also, do the sync'd images, say for MobileMe, Flickr, Facebook, etc get stored in the Aperture Library and subsequently in vaults? I was checking in my Aperture Library folder and it seems that they do. I am just wondering why Aperture would store this as it seems redundant to store the same images twice. Maybe I am misunderstanding something. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Mac

We do a high volume of shooting with weddings, so it really is not feasible to dub tapes or similar to get proper timecode. It is not just this tape but every tape that seems to have problems with working with timecode, and that is from 4 different sony cameras and importing from various devices (but not an actual deck).
If any other ideas pop up, please let me know. Two other odd pieces of information. When I attempt to reconnect, where it should show the names of the media to reconnect, this clip shows up blank, without even an extension. It is there as there is a blank portion that is highlighted blue and it lets you search, but when you try to reconnect it either says operation not allowed, or it goes through and nothing happens. The second thing is that when you get the info on the clip from the browser, it says the drive for the clip is missing. Not sure if that is simply because the clip is offline but the drive is showing up as connected, so I found it odd that it says that the drive is missing...

  • Unable to Rename Master File in Aperture 3

Attempting to rename the Master File in Aperture 3 results in an error.  This problem started after upgrading to Lion.  I have used the same work flow for some time with no problem.  The error occurs both when attempting to rename on import (import crashes) or after importing and attempting to change the name.  The same problem is happening on both of my computers.  The master files are Nikon RAW (.nef) files.  Anybody else having the same problem?
    Thanks - T.J.

    Need a little more info:
Can you tell us where your Masters are stored?
    Internal Drive?
    External Drive?
    Referenced or Managed?
If external drive, how is it formatted?
    Are you using network storage?

  • Renaming master files before import using metadata information

In order to be sure that none of my master files has the same names I am using the following naming format:
    <camera model> YYYYMMDD HHMMSS
    Example: Nikon D2X 20070218 213445
Until now I have used Photoshop CS2 in order to rename all my master files but it would be easier if is possible to automate the process. The date and time is taken from the metadata in each file. Which is the specific time the photo is taken and not just the "file creation date and time".
Has anyone found a tool/automation that could do this?

    Karsten
    Have a look at DIM:
    http://www.alanlight.com/dim/Dim.htm
In order to be 'future proof' I import and rename all images into a Finder folder structure created by the above. I then import them into Aperture - so I have the same structure in the Finder and in Aperture. I keep al RAW images in a different structure from JPEG images.
DIM will do all you need

  • Renaming original file name.

    Hi!
Can I rename original content file name (contains in dOriginalName) before check in? Idoc script? Something else?

    Thanks!

    Shamil,
based on your scenario, I do not think Profiles are a good way to go. Why? Because the value of your field is dependent on values from other metadata fields which might be editable.
I can imagine you will be able to get there somehow (with the use of idocscript) the notation yyyyMMdd - this is a value you will have on the page load (unless checkin dialog would be opened over midnight).
I can also imagine that document type is somehow bound to your profile.
Nevertheless, you will never have the file extension - this is totally user-dependent value. Even though you can define some dependencies between metadata fields (on front-end), I would not know how to change a value based on primaryFile extension, to be honest.
On the other hand, if you do the same in a Java filter (when you are sure that the value will no longer change), it is an easy task. For filters, take a look at DynamicPrefix from HowTo components (see this page for 10g http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/content-management/index-092832.html or this page http://bexhuff.com/2011/03/howto-component-samples-for-oracle-ucm-11g for 11g).
Another comment: do you realize that if you store two documents of the same extension in one calendar day, that your name is not unique? (just in case you want to use it somehow for the identification)
I have also a question to you and Srinath: can you describe how dOriginalName can be added (to be filled in) to a rule/profile? I don't see it in available fields when I define a rule...

  • An App to rename photo file names to date taken?

Does anyone know of an app that automatically names the photo's filename to the date the photo was taken?
    Thanks

Photos on an iPad do not have meaningful file names.   If you synced Photos through iTunes their file names are turned into number sequences (ie img_95040.jpg).  There is nothing to search for that would be of any relevance, hence no to application really do this that I know of.

  • Renaming attachment file name in receiver mail adapter

    Experts,
I have a file to mail scenario where an xml file is picked up and transformed into the target format in XI which has to be sent as an attachement in an email on the receiver side.

  • Rename the file name of a Vault (not the Vault name)

I have a Maxtor Sahred Storage Plus and I am now planning to use it for backing up Aperture. Yes, I now that Aperture is not made for back up on a network, but it should be possible according to this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2245775&#2245775
My problem is that the filename of the vault is either to long or contains characters which the Maxtor do not accept so I can not copy the vault from Finder as suggested in the above thread. My question is if someone now if it is OK to rename the filename of the Vault?
Macbook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
    iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi,
    you can't.
Except you save the file under a different name before you send it.
