Rename PC - global controller

hi there,
need help please.
we have cloned server which act as Global controller. since we need to run those server together, we need to rename one of those.
the problem is, we can't just rename it like ordinary pc. we tried, but then the server can't be logged in.
how to rename this kind of server (PC)?
the server specification:
windows server 2008 enterprise SP2, 32 bit.
the server role is forest domain.
thanks in advance

Hello,
hopefully this doesn't mean Domain controller "we have cloned server which act as Global controller"???
A domain controller CAN NEVER be cloned and use just with renaming again!!!
Every machine in a Windows domain MUST have a unique SID, which requires that SYSPREP is used to clone/image machines for easier installation.
So if you have cloned a domain controller do NEVER start this one on the same network as the original installed machine and delete that server immediately.
YOU WILL RUN INTO MULTIPLE PROBLEMS working this way!!!
To have the recommended 2 DC/DNS/GC per domain install a second server, join it to the domain and then promote it to DC in an existing domain. Also make it DNS/GC during installation. Assure to use ONLY the existing DC/DNS server on the NIC as preferred
DNS server and NONE else. That can be changed later on after the new server has replicated from the existing DC.

  • Rename of Domain Controller

    Hi,
We want to upgrade our Domain Controller from  windows 2003 server to windows 2008 server. And our SAP servers are Local Domains(member servers) on windows 2003 server and we do not want to upgrade Operating System of the SAP servers.  The SAP servers are the members of the Domain Control.
My Question is after rename and Upgrade of Our Domain Controller from Windows 2003 server to Windows 2008 server. Does it impact at Operating system level,SAP level and Oracle database level  like Users, RFC and etc. And if it  impacts then, How it impacts. What precautions have to be taken.
Our aims is after the Upgrade and rename of Domain Controller. The Business which is running on SAP servers should not impact.
    Warm Regards,
    MNA

    > With rename do you mean changing HOSTNAME. If yes it do affect.
    No.
SAP system don't run on domain controllers. Windows doesn't find its logon servers by hostname but by quering the DNS/LDAP of the domain. The procedure is described here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/247811
If the domain server changes (because the current server is shut down) the system queries for another one. Since there is no more hierachies in AD 2003 it does not impact at all as long as at least one DC is availalble to authenticate.

  • Rename a Domain Controller

How do i rename Domain Controller name in Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2012 R2

Just be sure that all the applications you have installed in your domain can also work after a domain rename.  I don't know if it is still the case (my guess is that it is), but it used to be that you could not rename a domain if Exchange was installed
in the domain.  Renaming a domain is not like renaming a server.  There are a lot of things tied into that domain and you need to ensure that everything you have installed in the domain will work properly after renaming the domain.  In other
words, I hope you have a good lab that has your production environment replicated so you can test things there before actually renaming the production environment.

  • Renaming non-global zones

Is this as easy as editing the /etc/zones/index file and the appropriate zone.xml file and rebooting the zone?
I like the idea of that script on pp 229 et seq in the zones manual for creating x zones at a time, but they then have simply constructed names like z1, z2, z3 etc. It could be useful to be able to easily rename them to ldap1, ns1 etc when they have been created.
    //james

This is not currently supported but we have an open RFE to
    support this in the future
5022506 RFE: ability to rename zones
Please note that the files under /etc/zones are private and will
likely change in a future release of Solaris - modifying them
directly may result in a non-functional zone in a future update
    or after applying a patch.

Edited by: SeenuJanu on Jun 13, 2009 4:43 AMFor that you don't even need to touch the database. The name you use in your connect string is nothing more than an alias that is resolved (in your tnsnames.ora file) to a specific service name on a specific host. Without touching anything else, you could change your tnsnames entry from something like
    ORASATYA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
       (ADDRESS_LIST =
         (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
       (SERVICE_NAME = ORA11)
    )to
fred =            <=== note that this is the only change from the previous entry
    (DESCRIPTION =
       (ADDRESS_LIST =
         (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = 127.0.0.1)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
       (SERVICE_NAME = ORA11)
)At which point you would connect with
    sql> connect scott/sathi@fred

  • Global Controller - Local Controller authentication?

If you are logged onto the GC and you click on anything (incidents for example), you are redirected to one of the local boxes and asked to log in again. Is this normal operation, or can we pass thru the authentication somehow?

I should provide some details. I kind of doubt that the general concept has changed (i.e. you should not have to re-auth to the local controller). You have to touch local controllers far too often in the current distributed MARS model for this to be acceptable IMHO. Perhaps someone running the GC in production can correct me on this? It either requires re-auth or it doesn't...which is it?
I can't seem to find the directory where I stored my POC data. My recollection is this:
when you clicked on an incident in the GC, you hit a page on the GC (NOT the LC) that gave you a security/session identifier [quite possibly by fetching it from the LC] and were then redirected to the LC. The redirect request to the LC contained this session identifier. I can't remember if the session identifier is in the URL, or a cookie, or in POST data. It doesn't really matter though...the key is that the request to the LC already has a valid session id.

  • Global Controller group usage

We have GC Gen1 and multiply LCs Gen 1.
I have a question about usage of groups and drop rules. I would like to use Global groups and add device/networks to these global groups and then use those groups in drop rules on the LC controllers. Problem is when I view the Global group on an LC it only shows the Device/networks local to that box. With that said the rule does not consider the other device/networks that are part of the global group. Is there a way that is can work? Why I would want to do this, well for example lets take some internal subnets that generate certain type of traffic to inside subnets at different locations. It is easier to add all inside subnets to the Global group and then write drop rule on LCs using the global group as the scr and dst.

    Try this :
Modify the rule with a dummy action, click activate, wait for a couple of minutes, remove the dummy action and again click activate to cause the GC to synchronize the rule to the LC.

  • Accessing  global controller.jpf variables through JSP pages

    Hey All
I wish to access an XML-Bean set as an variable in my Controller.jpf
file. I can do this easily using NetUI tags but I wish todo page
specific dynamic calculation on the content of the bean.. Something like
    <%
         Bean b = getMyBEan() //how do I get it??
         //do some calculations on b
    %>
    Oliver Billing

    Hi Oliver
    Using pageContext
One way to access it is adding the pageflow variable (bean) to the pagecontext and then you can use the getAttribute method in the jsp and get the value.
More info at http://e-docs.bea.com/workshop/docs81/doc/en/workshop/guide/netui/guide/conDatabindingXScript.html (Look under the section pageContext)

  • Global & Local controller

    Hi Guys,
Am new to Mars, so execuse me if the question is simple.
i cannt understand what is the difference between global & local controller.
i've only one Mars appliance and want to connect it to the network, do i need to use global controller? or only the local? so, again what is the diference between the two controllers.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ramii

If you only want 1 MARS, then you only need to get the Local Controller.
You would only need to get Global controller if you would like the Global controller to manage all your Local controllers.
Here is what the global controllers are capable off:
    • Aggregation of reports across the Local Controller deployment
    •  Defining Rules, Reports and User accounts for Local Controllers (Note:  Configuration of Local Controller is done "locally" on the individual LC  appliance)
    • Remote, distributed upgrade of the Local Controllers
    Hope that helps.

  • How to call a local variable from another component controller

    Dear Experts,
I have created 1 component controller(Controller Name as B)and methods. In that methods I Have declared Local variable(For ex data: Lv_flag). I have Created 1 more component and name as A. I used Component B in Component A(Using component usage). In A component controller I have created methods. Now I want to call a local variable Lv-flag in this method from B controller Method. Please reply your valuable answer.

    Karthikeyan,
Please make sure that flag attribute is under some node, say NODEA. NOW please select the interface node property and input element  of NODEA.
now NODEA will be available in interface controller. Interface controller acts like a global  controller between two different components.
So from interface controller you can take that flag value.
pls reply back if you have any confusion.

  • Problems in component controller

    Hi Experts
I have a DC named X under ABC Track.I have created another DC named Y under the same track ABC.
I have copied the component controller from DC X to DC Y.I then renamed the component controller in DC Y and also changed all the dependencies referencing previous controller name to new controller name.I have also added all used DCs and referenced  Bapi structures present in the previous DC.
After doing so i repaired the classpath file and rebuilt the DC .I have even closed the DC and opened it.
But i still face errors in component controller like wdThis ,wdcontext cannot be resolved,IPrivate component cannot be resolved.
Can anyone help me on this

    Dear Chandana,
If you want to copy component controller from DC x to y. then I think you should copy _Comp folder of DC X.
then open the DC Y project, remove and paste the _comp folder.
You can find the _comp folders under C:\document and setting\<users>\.dtc\......

  • Global Database Name for OCS Database

    Hi guys,
The domain name for the network that I'm installing OCS 10g have a dash in the domainname. When installing the OCS database, it stated that the global database name cannot have a dash. So I change the dash in domain name of the server with an underscore.
After restart the installation, and putting the global database name with a underscore, the installation is sucessfull. My question is if I change back the server domain name back to include the dash, will this affect the running of the database ? and after the installation can I changed the global database name to include the dash ?
    Thanks for any info.
    Regards
    Lanang

I was looking in the wrong place. I found the right documentation. Thanks all.
Rename the global database name using an ALTER DATABASE statement. For example, enter:
    ALTER DATABASE RENAME GLOBAL_NAME TO sales.us.oracle.com;

  • Rename Certificate Authority

I would like to rename my CA server. I know that if you back and restore the CA it has to be the same name (or you have tons of problems), but can you change the name of the server after it is restored? Is there something that will bite me if I do? My current
CA is on Windows 2008 and I will upgrade to R2 soon, but I wanted to rename before I do, assuming that there is no big deal doing that.
    SnoBoy

Can somebody help me, I renamed my domain controller without realizing it was a certificate authority. Can I just rename it back??? Now I am getting these errors in the event log:
Active Directory Certificate Services could not publish a Delta CRL for key 0 to the following location on server mydomain.local:
    ldap:///CN=mydomain-DOMAINCONTROLLE-CA,CN=mydomain,CN=CDP,CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=local.  Directory object not found. 0x8007208d (WIN32: 8333).
    ldap: 0x20: 0000208D: NameErr: DSID-0310020A, problem 2001 (NO_OBJECT), data 0, best match of:
         'CN=CDP,CN=Public Key Services,CN=Services,CN=Configuration,DC=mydomain,DC=local'
The reason we renamed it in the first place was because the original
host name had more than 15 characters and was breaking Hyper-V integration.
Note: i am in no way an experienced Windows admin so please be nice:)

  • What is the Global Database Name for?

    Hi All,
I installed 10g on Linux and it seems to work ok. But I used the same string "abc" for the SID and the global database name (GDN). The recommendation for the GDN was sid.domain_name.com but I didn't know the domain_name at the time.
I don't know why the GDN exists or what it is used for. I am wondering how this lame GDN will affect the database and if there is an easy way to change it. I don't expect that we will be using the db outside of our little network, no internet users. Will users on other machines be able to connect to my db?
    Thanks

  • How to get the values from popup window to mainwindow

    HI all,
I want to get the details from popup window.
i have three input fields and one search button in my main window. when i click search button it should display popup window.whenever i click on selected row of the popup window table ,values should be visible in my main window input fields.(normal tables)
now i am able to display popup window with values. How to get the values from popup window now.
I can anybody explain me clearly.
    Thanks&Regards
    kranthi

    Hi Kranthi,
Every webdynpro component has a global controller called the component controller which is visible to all other controllers within the component. So whenever you want to share some data in between 2 different views you can just make it a point to use the component controller's context for the same. For your requirement (within your popups view context) you will have have to copy the component controllers context to your view. You then will have to (programmatically) fill this context with your desired data in this popup view. You can then be able to read this context from whichever view you want. I hope that this would have made it clear for you. Am also giving you an [example|http://****************/Tutorials/WebDynproABAP/Modalbox/page1.htm] which you can go through which would give you a perfect understanding of all this. In this example the user has an input field in the main view. The user enters a customer number & presses on a pushbutton. The corresponding sales orders are then displayed in a popup window for the user. The user can then select any sales order & press on a button in the popup. These values would then get copied to the table in the main view.
