Rename PDF files using iBooks

Hi everyone!
Is there a way to rename a PDF book in iBooks? I could have done this when I used iTunes but after upgrading to 10.9 I can't rename these "books" anymore.
For instance I managed to change the Title and Author fields easily in iTunes, but I can't do this in iBooks. Is there an answer why the users can't do this?

I found a clumsy, but effective workaround for your problem.
1.  Open the PDF up with Preview (use your Finder to find it, the right-click "Open with..")
2.  Choose File>Print then choose "as PDF"
3.  In the Save menu, fill in the new document name above and below, and write the correct Author's name (your name will probably appear) where it sasy "Author."
4.  Open iBooks, and delete the old copy (won't work if you don't do this before next step)
5. Go to the iBooks menu-bar, and choose File>Add to Library
6.  Select the new PDF
You're right, hopefully Apple will fix this in a soon-to-be-seen update.  In the meantime, I tried the above and it works.

  • Can you rename pdf files in ibooks?

I download many PDF files onto my iPad to read using iBooks.  But the PDF files are stored on the iPad with non-meaningful names (like QL-BHZfG9dl).  Is there any way to rename these things so that I know (without opening them) what the files are??

  • I use iTunes 11.1.3 and books is not listed in preferences.  I want to add a pdf file into ibooks.

Hello:   I use iTunes 11.1.3 and under preferences,  books is not listed as an option.  I am trying to
add a pdf file to ibooks.

Sorry, I was only able to get back to this issue today, but it worked.
Thank you again Michael for your help. It was as simple as just buyng a free book from the iTunes store to create a Books area, then I was able to drag and drop my 3rd party book there.
Still, I feel that there should already be a Books area in iTunes, but perhaps I am the only one who has updated iTunes on a computer without any previously purchased books on it from the iTunes store.

  • PDF File in iBooks but all images blank?

Hi - I have imported a PDF file into iBooks (it is a tearsheet from a publisher of some of my photography that is published). I really need to see the images in this PDF, not just the text. I am hoping to use the iPad to show my portfolio - and this tearsheet is an important piece of this.
Any idea why the PDF would show only text, and not the images? Is there a standard format that is missing here - or some incompatibility? When I view the PDF on my mac, it works fine. on the iPad, none of the images are shown.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have had mixed success. In some of my PDFs the images show, in others there are missing. Most have been down loaded from the Web, so there is no information on how they were made. One that was generated by printing a powerpoint to PDF looks great. All of the PDFs that were processed by Acrobat to Reduce the File Size were NOT readable for versions 6 or higher. Only the version "5 and up" had visible images. Other Acrobat operations, such as remove hidden objects, did not mess up the images.
There appears to be a formatting disagreement between Apple and Acrobat for versions 6 and higher.
    good luck

  • .pdf files in iBooks on my iPad don't show in iBooks on my iMac. Why?

when i installed iBooks on my iMac, only my purchased books show in the library.  PDF files I stored in iBooks on my iPad are not showing. Any ideas how I sync the pdf files?  They use a common Apple ID and I use iCloud for the iPad backup.

Did you try using the transfer purchase feature of iTunes? I know that these may not be purchased PDF files, and it is only supposed to work with iTunes purchases, but I have done this myself with PDF files in iBooks.
iTunes Store: Transfer purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
This feature works only for audio, video, and apps that you purchased from the iTunes Store. Any items that you imported from audio CDs or acquired from other sources won't copy from your device to the iTunes library. However, copies of all PDFs and books from your device's iBooks app will transfer to the computer, regardless of whether they were purchased from the iBooks Store. • It takes three tries to successfully open a PDF file in iBooks.

         This is regarding ipad2.
When I click on "open in iBooks," the bookshelf opens up and right upper circular icon spins as if it's about to open file, but the it stops and reverts back to edit button without anything else happening. So I try a second time on the "open in iBooks" from the PDF page, and this time, the icon of the PDF file appears on the bookshelf but then disappears a few seconds after that. If I happen to click on the icon before the icon disappears, the PDF will open but then will also disappear same few seconds later and then iPad goes back to home page or it opens up the "books" bookshelf. So third times a charm--clicking on "open in iBooks" the third time will finally open up PDF file in iBooks and incorporate it into the library.
Not sure if this is due (1) to size of my library--some 600+ PDFs, (2) recently upgraded to iBooks 2.1--can't remember if this started before or after.  I also just upgraded to iOS 5.1 yesterday hoping and thinking this would resolve the issue but it hasn't. Anyone with any suggestions?

    Hi Alan,
Sorry for the late response. i was busy with other work.
Through InputStream i can get the Remote remote resource by establishing the HttpURLConnection with the cookie information(that's how it can get credentials). But i don't know how to view the file using PDF_Renderer.
when i use the below code, it is working fine(i used PdfReader to read the InputStream ) but Sample.pdf is creating on the desktop of the system beacause of FileOutputStream which used as a parameter of PdfStamper.
// create a stamper that will copy the document to a new file named Sample.pdf
    PdfStamper stamp = new PdfStamper(reader,
         new FileOutputStream("Sample.pdf"));
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler "+"Sample.pdf");
Please provide me some solution through PDF_Renderer. i checked the api, i didn't get any idea.
    Thanks.

  • PDF files in IBook

    Hi Hartsough,
The article below may shed a little more light on working with PDF files in iBooks:
iBooks: Viewing, syncing, saving, and printing PDFs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    Syncing and saving PDFs
To add PDFs to your iTunes library on your computer, simply drag and drop the PDF into your iTunes Book library.
To sync a PDF to iBooks on your device:
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in the Devices list on the left in iTunes 10.1 or later.
Click the Books tab in the resulting window.
Ensure that the Sync Books checkbox is enabled.
If iTunes is set to only sync selected books, be sure to enable the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    Click Sync.
iTunes can backup your PDF files so they are restored to your iOS device after a software restore, update, or to transfer information to a different device. When you use iTunes 10.1 or later to sync your PDF files to iBooks 1.2 or later on your iOS device, a backup of your PDF will be automatically created. A copy of the PDF will be added to your iTunes Books library.
    Hope this information helps!

  • Can I read a single PDF file on iBooks, Kindle and Adobe PDF?

    Hi there,
Is it possible to read a PDF file on iBooks and also read that same file on Kindle and Adobe Reader on the iPad?
I can't seem to do that and it seems silly to have 3 copies of the same file, in the same format, to be able to read on these 3 apps!
Should there be a book library such that when I open any of those apps, it goes to that library and displays the books and files that it can actually open!
It seems logical for this to be the case but somehow... ???
    Maz

A pdf located in iBooks cannot be read by the other two apps, and vice versa.
Why not just use the one app for all your pdfs?
As with any library, a library can only display what is available on its own bookshelf.
    It seems illogical to me....

  • Facing problems to open PDF files in iBooks in my Mac, how can I fix it?

I didn't use to have problems opening and reading my PDF files in iBooks.
However, yesterday my MacBookPro started not to open any PDF files.
Its books, the app would open normally, but PDF files it just blinks the apps at the bottom of its screen but do not open any file.

    Hello,
I guess my question here is why would PDF's open in Preview and not in iBooks? What is the point of adding them to iBooks if it just route them elsewhere?
    Thanks,
    Robert

  • Viewing PDF files in iBooks ?

does anyone know if there is anyway to view PDF files as you view books in ibooks with access to all options (copy, define, highlight, note, search, share) ?, thank you.

    Hi LeClarence,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
The article below will explain how to view PDFs with iBooks on your iPhone.   The easiest way to get them to your device is to email them to yourself.
iBooks: Viewing, syncing, saving, and printing PDFs on iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4227
With iBooks for iOS and iTunes 10.1 or later, you can view, sync, save, and print PDFs on your compatible iOS device. You can also view PDF email attachments or PDFs from Safari in iBooks.
    Opening PDFs with iBooks
You can open PDF documents, such as a PDF attached to an email, with iBooks:
When you view a PDF email attachment, tap the Share button in the upper-right corner.
Tap Open in iBooks to open the attachment. iBooks will open, and you can view your PDF.
When you use iBooks to open a PDF, iBooks will automatically save a copy of the PDF to your iBooks PDF shelf. These PDFs will sync to your iTunes Book library the next time you sync your device with iTunes.
    Syncing and saving PDFs
To add PDFs to your iTunes library on your computer, drag and drop the PDF into your iTunes Book library. If you're using OS X Mavericks, drag and drop your PDFs into your iBooks library using iBooks for Mac.
To sync a PDF to iBooks on your device:
Select your iOS device. (Learn more about syncing your data with iTunes.)
    Click the Books tab.
    Select Sync Books.
If iTunes is set to sync only selected books, select the checkbox next to the PDF you want to sync.
    Click Sync.
You can use iTunes to back up your PDF files so they will restore to your iOS device after you update or restore your software or transfer information to a different device. If you use iTunes 11 or later to sync your PDF files to iBooks on your iOS device, a backup of your PDF will be automatically created. A copy of the PDF will be added to your iTunes Books library, or iBooks library if you're using OS X Mavericks.
    Cheers,
    - Judy

  • Highlighting PDF files in iBooks

Once you add a PDF file to iBooks, is here a way to highlight it and bookmark it like you can do with iBooks downloaded from the iBooks store?

I have been able to bookmark PDFs, and even search PDFs, but have to found a way to highlight in iBooks.
For highlighting, I bring the PDF into TakeNotes app, and use it as a background for a document, which lets me highlight and notate as I wish.

  • Can't open PDF file from iBook on MAC. error "The application "ACDSee Pro" can't be opened."

Can't open PDF file from iBook on MAC. error "The application “ACDSee Pro” can’t be opened."

    Hi arewers,
Do you have Adobe Reader installed, by any chance? If so, are you aware if it was the PPC or Intel version which you installed? In any case, for the time being, have a quick look in 'HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/' using Finder and see if there's an Adobe plugin lying around. If there is, try moving it out of the folder and restarting Safari.

  • Can't open pdf file with iBook in mac

It's great to see iBook in mavericks, but everytime i tried to open pdf in ibook, it always open in preview instead even its ibook shelf already, is there anyone out there having the same issue?

So tell me, when any of this PDF files is open, what app button is just next to Apple logo ? I did it your way and i still can see Preview, not iBooks.
Like i said. You can store your PDF files in iBooks, just right next to the books which you have purchased from iBooks store. iBooks app can by used to manage your pdf files like iphoto is used to manage your photos. BUT to read this PDF OS X 10.9 will use Preview by default (unless you have other PDF Viewer set to open pdf by default).
