Rename the WIP folder

Is it possible to rename the Work In Progress folder globally? The Hungarian translation of this folder is called "Folyamatban", but there is a better translation called "Piszkozatok". I know, that there is no option in the client to rename, maybe this is hard coded in the client.
TIA,
Gellert

Hi Gellert, I will forward this info to Novell and hopefully it will be updated in a newer build of the GW client.
I don't believe it's possible to change it manually.

  • HT1428 How do I revert settings from renaming the home folder?

*PREFACE* I've read plenty of articles today on why NOT to attempt to rename the home folder.. This was done mistakenly by a friend attempting to help with my wifes macbook air.
While they were able to rename the home folder, upon reboot, all system settings are gone, and she cannot access anything on the macbook air. Basically I need any help on how to go about restoring her air to the point before this incident occured, if that's possible (and I REALLY hope it is!!). We only had one user profile on the air, it was hers and is an admin account. When I try to access files on the HD now I get access denied messages. Based on what I've read, I thought if I could get to system preferences I could attempt to rename it back to the original name, reboot, and things would revert back, but when I click on system preferences, it bounces up, and then the light under it goes out.
I own a time machine, and I have plenty of backup data there, I'm curious though of two things. 1st, how exactly do I go about this process, and 2nd, if I restore it, is it going to restore everything back to how it was before the rename happened, or would I have to do something else?
On a scale of 1-5 in terms of knowledge, I'm about a 3. I'm faily new to Mac computing, but I own several other Mac products. I haven't had to replace my current PC laptop (yet, but its days are VERY numbered), but intend to go Mac from that point on. I hope all of this gives someone smarter than me enough information on what my situation is and hopefully how to solve it! Thanks!!

    Problem solved, time capsule worked!

  • Renaming the Home folder.....

    Hi Guys,
How can I rename the home folder? Any idea?
    Thanks

Don't let the earlier replies put you off; I've now done just that on two computers following the article referred to by macJack, with no problems whatever.
I did however take the precaution of backing up to an external drive beforehand in case of finger trouble.
Note that when creating the new user, you can use the same password, but the account name will have to be different. For instance if your full account name is John Smith, alter it slightly (to John J Smith for example) to create the new account. You can change it back after all's been checked and the old account deleted.

  • Can I rename the Home folder

I recently had my 15" MacBook Pro serviced because of a hard drive failure. It required that the operating system (OSX 10.7.3) be reinstalled. The reinstall was handled by the Best Buy Geek Squad store where I originally purchased the Mac. They named my home folder using only my first name in lower case letters. I would prefer my full name like my previous install.  DoI understand correctly that it is NOT possible to rename this folder? Would I have to reinstall Lion and wipe all the data to do this? Or is there a simple way to rename the folder.
    Thanks in advance,
    Anthony

Depending on whether your files are in that account or not, create a new one or open the Users & Groups pane of System Preferences, unlock it, control-click your account, choose Advanced Options, and change it.

  • I renamed the Library Folder in Finder, and then imported photos

Several months ago after first purchasing an iMac, I imported some photos. Since these photos were all from a Mexico trip, I went into Finder and renamed the iPhoto Library folder to "Mexico Photos". What I didn't know then, but certainly do now, is that renaming a folder in Finder is a cardinal sin in iPhoto. Now I have a problem, because yesterday I started importing and organizing hundreds of photos. After creating 97 events with over 1500 photos, I realized that all the newly imported photos are in the "Mexico Photo" file. Since I now have photos from several different events, I wanted to change the folder name to something other than "Mexico Photos". So once again I renamed the file back to the original "iPhoto Library" but after doing that, I couldn't open any of the photos. The 97 events were there, but the photos were all blank. When I clicked on a photo, an explanation mark appeared. After changing the name in Finder back to "Mexico Photos", all my photos and events are visible and I can open all the photos. So my question is how can I change the folder name to something other than "Mexico Photos" without losing all my photos again?

Welcome to the Apple user discussion forums
If you quit iPhoto, rename the iPhoto library package and launch iPhoto while depressing the option (alt) key you can select the library - the newly named iPhoto library should be selectable
The name of the library does not affect operation as long as you have not modified the contents of it

  • How do rename the Home Folder

Someone else set up my iMac and named the home folder.  I want to change it to my name, not theirs.  How do I do that?

It is Not easy to do, unfortunately.  Here are the instructions for the procedure:

  • No Finder and renaming the "DivXNetworks" folder does not work.  What now??

I just upgraded to 10.5 on my MacBook and I am having the same finder issues discussed in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1197076&tstart=15
But when I try the suggested solution, I am being told that I do not have the DivXNetworks folder.
Does anyone have another solution to get finder to work?
    Thanks in advance.
    Eric
P.S. - I am a relative novice at this so a Mac for Dummies solution would be best

The Keyboard Viewer may help you determine what key-faces also may double as something else, as you can choose to shift their purpose through use of the fn key. In the keyboard & mouse system preference panel you can choose to view this in the top of the main finder desktop menu bar. With options. You also may choose to assign a key to a different function or symbol.
However I see my MacBook has a key which sports both + and = on the same keyface.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Corrupted iSync Items after renaming the Home folder

I renamed (successfully) my Home folder thanks to a tutorial I found on Apple.com's Support (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106824).
But now I have two items in my iSync window that seem still related to the old (original) user.
    Here is a screenshot:
    http://img276.imageshack.us/img276/3661/picture3kw7.jpg
I'd like to "fix" them or remove them.
    Thanks

You should contact Microsoft [umm: good luck with that] and Panic for help with dealing with this issue.
The Panic site says this about removing sync client registration information:
Q: I no longer use Transmit. How can I remove Transmit from my .Mac Sync preferences?
A: Awkwardly, Apple doesn't provide a way to remove these items. But, if you're running Transmit 3.5.1 or newer, type this into Terminal:
    ~/Library/Application\ Support/Transmit/TransmitSync.app/Contents/MacOS/TransmitSync --unregisterClient
That should remove Transmit from the list.
Aside from offering you that little tidbit, all I can give you is a way to unregister all of your synchronization clients. A future release of the framework or of iSync may include such capabilities, but the present ones do not.

I like it ! NI is the best, if you don´t want to work with it.

  • I have an error when creating new folders, it renames the folder below it to the same name (super - next folder - parent's next sibling...)

if I try to add a new folder to a sub folder, the program does add the new bookmark folder, but it also renames the next folder in line in the parent of the original "subfolder" to the exact same name...
maybe I just need to reload the mozilla, maybe I was hacked and that is what they changed...
I also have a similar problem with microsoft explorer, every time I try to add a new folder it gives it a starting wierd name besides "New Folder"

  • Renaming An Alias But Not The Original Folder's Name

    Hi All,
I"ve got many macs at my house on my network. I want to create an alias on my macbook pro to a folder on my imac. THATS NO PROBLEM!
    However,
I then want to RENAME that alias to another name. THATS NO PROBLEM!
    My issue is,
when I rename that alias, it also renames the original folder and I don't want that! I want the alias name to be different than the original file's name. Is that possible? If so, do I need to create a symbolic link instead? If so, how is that done?
    Thanks,

that should not happen. you are doing something incorrectly. how exactly are you creating the alias? commandoptiondrag the remote folder to your desktop. that will create an alias there and you can rename it as you like it.
and I don't want that! I want the alias name to be different than the original file's name. Is that possible? If so, do I need to create a symbolic link instead?
a symbolic link will work too but an alias will work just fine also.
If so, how is that done?

  • Why has itunes moved my music files out of the Music folder?

To my horror I just found out that itunes has moved folders (albums) out of the Music folder, Ive always found those folders very well organized (music, movies, podcasts, etc) now Im seeing some albums mixed with those folders (out of the music folder) and some albums IN the music folder as well, even worse I have the same folder inside Music and out!! with a few tracks on each, but in iTunes everything looks normal and it plays the album as usual, Im losing my mind over this I cant find a way to fix it, I even started moving them manually but there are too many, and for the duplicate folders I have to move the tracks that were moved. Any idea on why did this happen? I dont want to move the folders and lose hours only to find out that itunes did it again!! I thank you very very ver much in advance.

iTunes on a Mac may be more forgiving if you move things around manually, but it isn't really recommended.
Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you had an older library and have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10/11). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other. (Recent installs of iTunes on a Mac now give the library file the .itl extension)
Assuming you're happy letting iTunes organize your files the following steps should tidy things up (should it be necessary):
    1. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" and click OK. Skip if this option is grayed out (already upgraded) or you prefer the older layout.
    2. Select File > Library > Organize Library... > Tick Consolidate files and click OK. This will bring any files currently organized outside the designated media folder into it.   N.B. This will create duplicate copies of any file that needs to be consolidated, and you will need to manually clean up afterwards.
    3. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, uncheck Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK.
    4. Select iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab, check Keep iTunes Media folder organized and click OK. This triggers iTunes into reorganizing everything according to your preferences.
    5. (Optional, if applicable) Close iTunes, rename the media folder iTunes Music as iTunes Media then restart iTunes. Check under iTunes > Preferences > Advanced tab that the location has automatically updated. If you can't access the media for any reason just undo the folder rename.
PS If you really prefer the older layout, but it is already in the new one then, edit the hidden file .iTunes Preferences.plist in your media folder and change the integer from 1 to 0 before doing step 3.
You should backup your library before attempting any major reorganization.
If iTunes is still creating files or folders in the wrong locations there is a possibility of permissions problems. Offhand I'm not sure of the correct OS X terms but on Windows both the system and user accounts should have full access permissions to all files & folders within the iTunes folder in order for it to work properly.

  • Help with understanding the Home Folder plus User Accounts

I just got the IMac (replacing an ageing...that is an understatement...Grape iMac from long ago) and this is my first go at the OSX. My previous iMac had OS9.2
I am having a problem understanding the Home folder and the Users to a point. The concepts are fine, it is the changing of names that is the problem. When I first started the iMac and went through the set-up and finally looked at the file structure, there was the Home Folder with a name, which i guess was pre-entered during set-up since I did not enter it (lets call it JOE). There was also 1 User, JOE with all the iLife folders. Since I did not like the name, i went to the Systems Preferences, into Accounts and found that JOE is an Admin. So, I changed the name to, lets say BILL, who still is an Admin. I also changed some settings and made BILL the auto log account. OK so far I am happy. I go back to the HD and find that now there are 2 users (folders), BILL and JOE, and that the Home Folder is still named JOE butall the iLife files are now under BILL.
So I went and also renamed the Home Folder to BILL, so everything looks fine. But when I restarted the iMac latter it lost all the settings (mouse, etc.) This is really getting confusing.
Here is what I want to do (after some reasearch):
I want to change the Short Name (JOE) but so far I have read that you can not do that. Where did this name come from (basically my first initial and my last name) because I don't want my Home Folder to be named that. I found somewhere that the only way to do that is an Erase and Install. I am willing to do that since I have a backup of all the iLife files on an external disk anyways and I have not put anything new yet.
Can someone enlighten me as to what would be the best course of action....this Short Name thing is frustrating.
    iMac 20" 2.33MHz   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Welcome To Discussions kapklo!
First you need to sort out the extra Home folder issue, that was created by changing the Short Names.
The info in one or more of the articles linked to below, will help you with that.
Return to Default Desktop, Apparent "Loss" of Home Directory
My home folder and desktop are different than before
Recover from renaming your Home folder, authored by Dr Smoke
Then you can change the Short Name using this Change Short Name The Easy Way.
Or you could do an Erase & Install, making sure you enter your preferred Short Name, during the setup process.

I cant uninstall my itunes off my computer, i have followed instructions and i still have errors, including error 2330 and redundance cyclic. the only software i have left is itunes.exe and file es.lproj which is located in the ituneshelpresources folder. i recently installed a second hard drive and that let me uninstall everything. I just want to get itunes off my computer and reinstall itunes, i have deleted everything i can and i ran "chkdsk" this did nothing. I would have just updated the oild itunes to the newest version but it didnt ley me do that. installing/ uninstalling or deleting just lets me get half way and shows me these errors. Please help, thank you.
    JPHowarth

the only software i have left is itunes.exe and file es.lproj which is located in the ituneshelpresources folder.
If the chkdsk isn't fixing the damage, and those are the only iTunes that can't be deleted, try renaming the "iTunes" folder that they are contained in (in your Program files) to iTunesOLD.
Now try another install. Does it go through without the 2330 this time?

  • Help, I accidentally renamed the system library

I really screwed up.  Hope someone can help.  I was attempting to copy my entire hard drive to an external drive.  During the copy process I thought, "I should rename the library folder so I don't confuse the copied one with the original."  Somehow doing so renamed the library on my mac too.
So, now I can't correct the name back to library, can't get any programs to start, and can't shut down or restart.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?  Option+click won't allow me to rename it.  I can't open terminal to rename it that way.  I really messed up.
    Thanks,
    Mike

Restart from an alternate system and rename it back. If you need to use the recovery partition, open the Terminal from the Utilities menu and run:
    mv '/Volumes/volumename/foldername/' '/Volumes/volumename/Library/'
    changing the path as needed.
