Rename to iCloud or just a iCloud mail address?

If this is a rename of ????@me to ????@iCloud, I get it. Assuming all the old iCloud elements; contacts, calendar, notes reminders etc. become ????@iCloud with mail received to ????@me now being an alias for ????@iCloud, I get it. Why would I want to reconstruct my world manually to ????@iCloud?

Only if you want to.  It's optional.  Your @me.com will continue to work as always.  The @icloud.com is just in addition to, and doesn't have to be used.

my iCloud account has the wrong mail address - where and how do I change this?

What do you mean with the wrong email address?
    - If it is not your account on your Mac, then just sign out and then sign in using your account in "System Preferences > iCloud".
If you want to change your current email address which is associated with your iCloud account, please make sure that you turn of "Find My iPhone", "Find My Mac" on all your devices before you change your email address, then go to https://appleid.apple.com sign in and then change your Apple ID/iCloud ID. Please note that email addresses which end with @mac.com, @me.com and @icloud.com cannot be changed.

While using it my iPad spontaneously came up with the message "This iPad cannot back up to iCloud without a verified e-mail address".  There are two buttons to push: "Later" and "Settings". Pushing either button does nothing.  It acts as if it is frozen.  If I try to slide the off switch, it does not slide.  I assume it is frozen.  How do I get out of this?

Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Have iCloud account, have changed e-mail address, can't edit iCloud account, how is this done?

How do I edit my iCloud account?

OK, After an hour or so, I found a resolution to this if anyone runs into the problem as described above.
I had to go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar
Select my iCloud account and turn off all the components
    Mail > Off
    Contacts > Off
    Calendars > Off
    Reminders > Off
    Safari > Off
    Notes > Off
    Passbook > Off
    Photo Stream > Off
    Documents and Data > Off
    Find My iPhone > Off
The only component that stalled for awhile was Calendars. I am not sure why as I dont have any data there. Once everything was turned off, I was able to Delete the iCloud account. I cannot explain this behaviour, but it worked.

  • Retrieving contact details from an e-mail address, Retrieving contact details from an e-mail address

How can I re tag my iCloud from an old e-mail address to a new address

To change the iCloud ID ("email address") you have to go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iDevice, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  When you do this you may find that the password for your old ID isn't accepted.  If this should happen, and if your old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, you need to temporarily recreate your old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iDevice on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Siri - Invite Contact with Multiple E-Mail Address to Meeting = No Invitation

    Hi
Wondering if anyone else notices this weird behaviour of Siri when trying to invite a person to a meeting. I know Siri is in Beta but maybe this could help to improve its functionality.
    Scenario
    - Schedule a Meeting using Siri and inviting a person to that meeting (i.e send out invitation to that person)
    - Person Contact in Addressbook has more than 1 e-mail address (like business and private)
    Outcome
When trying to schedule a meeting and inviting a contact to that meeting, Siri will ask you what e-mail address shall be used. However, when the meeting has been added to your calendar, the invitee/attendee does not appear in the calendar entry and therefore never receives a notification.
    How it should work
When doing the exact same thing with a contact that has only 1 e-mail address in their contact details, Siri correctly adds the person as an invitee and sends out the invitation to that e-mail address.
This is very annoying as I'm guessing lots of people have contacts in their addressbook with their business and private e-mail address.
Can anyone confirm this behaviour or is it just me? Any help is highly appreciated!
Addtional info / Stuff I noticed
    - I'm synching my Addressbook through Exchange. Unfortunately, although in my e-mail programm offers different form fields for various e-mail addresses (business, private, home, assistant etc) they all show up as "e-mail" on the iPhone. Therefore Siri could not even distinguish which address to chose without tapping on it with the finger.
    - Siri seems to be much more unreliable when trying to schedule a meeting with a person having more than 1 e-mail address. In contrast to having just 1 e-mail address in the contact, Siri almost always responds by saying "uh-oh there was a problem.. could you try again".

Please state your problem and we'll try to help you.

  • Mail search using e-mail addresses not longer works after 10.6 update?

I just updated to 10.6 from 10.5. I have also added all the software updates.
The search function no longer works for e-mail addresses. I used to right-click on an address, copy and paste in search. Now, when I do that, it lists like this : NAME <[email protected]> (sample info) instead of just the e-mail address. In this new form, the search function no longer functions. Is there a way to revert to the old way mail copies e-mail address?
I do not want to have to delet ethe name & out of each paste.
    input greatly appreciated!

    Perfect! Works like a charm.
For others looking for the fix.
In 10.6, it seems someone at Apple decided that Copy Address should really mean Copy Name And Address And Add Angle Brackets Around The Address, because that's exactly what happens when you use Copy Address in Snow Leopard's Mail app. Instead of getting [email protected] on the clipboard, you get Sue Sample <[email protected]>.
Besides now having an incorrect name on the Copy Address contextual menu item (thought admittedly, the alternative is a bit lengthy), this behavior is incredibly irritating if you want only the email address on the clipboard. Thankfully, some engineer somewhere deep within Apple included a hidden preference to change this behavior -- and the fine folks at Mac Daddy World (the Ecamm Network blog site) dug deep and discovered this preference.
To revert to the 10.5-style behavior in Mail, first quit Mail then enter this command in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.mail AddressesIncludeNameOnPasteboard -bool NO

  • Mail addressing

I am a new OS X Server user, please be nice to me.
I have a server installed and patched to date, I can get everything working I need but am stumped with regards to an e-mail problem. It was done with a standard option during the installer.
I have the server, installed in 'adomain.co.uk', with the server being 'server.adomain.co.uk'. When I create a user, their e-mail seems to default to '[email protected]', which I can change in their user details with little effect on their outbound presentation. +{well I can, if I delete their account in mac mail and re-create with the 'correct' address, but webmail always goes out with the server in the mail address regardless.}+
Internal DNS is set-up with MX records etc., all pointing internally. The internet DNS (from an ISP) correctly has MX records and the like to deliver e-mail to my router, which NATs this and hands it off to the server. Mail moves OK, it is just the e-mail addresses aren't what I want them to be going out.
What I would like it to have e-mail go out as '[email protected]', I can do the inbound side OK where mail gets delivered to the correct person - I just can't get the outbound side to work right.
    What am I missing here?

Found this in an earlier post that might be worth trying as I had the same question:
"Looking at your logs, your mail server works just fine. The process wining down when not used is normal.
Your relay problem stems from the fact that your server does not know it should accept mail for weidts.de. Simply add weidts.de to Server Admin -> Mail -> Settings -> Advanced -> Hosting -> Local Host Aliases
    HTH,
    Alex "
I am sure the primary domain should be machine.domain.com; when it listed in Server Admin | Mail | General | domain name as simply domain.com.

  • I have just downloaded OSX Mavericks and am having a lot of problems with my iCloud account. I get a message "this iMac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with (and then it quoted my e-mail address) Does anybody know what the problem could be??

As mentioned above I have just downloaded OSX Maverick to my iMac. I am now having a lot of problems with iCloud. I get the message that "This iMac can't connect to iCloud because of a problem with, and then it goes on to quote my e-mail address. It then says to open iCloud preferences to fix this problem.
I do this and no matter what I seem to do this message continues to return.
Can anybody explain how to resolve this problem (please bear in mind that I am noy very computer literate).
    Many thanks

  • I'm exhausted of trying to find a solution to a problem created by Apple. I have moved to iCloud, following your instructions and now I can not use my mobileme e-mail address. How can I contact directly with Apple, not just an automatic reply phone number

I'm exhausted of trying to find a solution to a problem created by Apple. I have moved to icloud following all your instructions and now I can not use my mobile me e-mail address. I can not activate icloud because when I put my e-mail address it answers that somebody is already using my address. I have my old e-mails, but I can not receive any e-mail or send them.
I have contacted Apple Technical Support in Spain and I was sent an e-mail saying that I have to call a phone number and when I call it is always an answering machine who answers that says that I have to pay 50€ for a consultation or wait for 10 minutes. When I have made the consultation it was never mentioned that I have to pay 50€ for a phone consultation. If I don't want to wait I have to pay for the Apple Tecnical Support which cost 250 €, this was not mentioned in the technical support page.
Can somebody let me know how can I contact Apple in another way in order to talk with a human being or chat directly? I was very happy just using my mobileme e-mails, I didn't need any clouds and I was force by Apple to registered if I want to continue using my mobileme e-mail address.

What you've outlined in this part of the post is all that icloud stores for you outside of the backup. If you want to restore from the icloud backup you will then have for all practical purposes a carbon restoration back to your device if you restore from the icloud backup.

I want to delete photos that are on my iphone, by doing so from the computer, not my phone.
Syncing your device with itunes will then enable you to remove whatever photos you wish to remove from your device deleting them with the computer and not the iphone.

I guess you could try but I don't believe Apple can help with activation lock issues.  They may, however, be able to determine if the Apple ID belongs to one of you and reset the password for you if you can prove your identity.
You might want to try calling Apple by going to https://expresslane.apple.com; click 'More Products and Services, then 'Apple ID'.  In the next page select 'Other Apple ID Topics' then 'Lost or forgotten Apple ID password'.  Perhaps they can help determine if it's your ID and reset the password for you (and they probably have more expertise in doing this than the Apple store).
