Renamed All Computers, What Next I should do ?

Yes, you should print all the labels and stick them on the computers, where users can see them. That way when you get a call you can ask them for the computer name to connect to it remotely.
Spiceworks can scan all of you computers and store all kind of hardware details, as well as to keep a list of software installed on each machine.
Barcode? It really depends, not really necessary.
Dameware mini-remote is what we use to connect to our users computers (about 250 computers) it works really well.
Need more details to answer your last question.

Hi, I recently got in a place where I have more than 50 computers under several departments, now so far I have done the renaming of computers in an organized way but all I have is in papers and I am quite confused with several things on my mind and need an expert advice here about what they do to control or do the asset management for all computers in their network single handed or from one centralized server or Desk.Things I am confused for :-1. Should I make the labels for each computer and stick it.2. I am constantly looking for softwares which could simply scan all the computers and I could then save each computer hardware details as per the computer names. (except Spiceworks App because I just want to scan it once and save it in excel format for future referrals)3. Is there any barcode method or it is really not must ?4....

  • Renaming all computers and joining them to new domain

    Hi guys,
I'm really hoping someone can help me out. I'm an IT Admin with no actual training (please don't ask lol) so I'm not very knowledgeable and everything I've learned has been by reading forums and trial and error.
What I need to do is: rename all of the computers on our domain (about 160 of them) to a simple naming system (we'll say comp1, comp2, etc), join them onto a new domain and reconnect the appropriate printers to each. Also, for some reason it is required
I manually enter the DNS server IP in order for it to see the new domain and be able to connect.
In the past, I've learned that you have to reboot machines between both renames and domain changes so I understand that. What I'm trying to figure out is if I can do all of this by running some sort of "script" or by a group policy or something
instead of doing everything manually (which will require an entire weekend since I have 8 locations to do this for). The machines are WinXP and Win7 and our AD server is 2008 R2.
Also, how does deleting DNS/DHCP records affect anything if I were to delete them during this process? Am I supposed to for a big rename project like this? I only ask because when I've accidentally named a computer to a name that was already on the network,
that caused an issue with DHCP. If you do have time to help me out, I appreciate it but I'll have to request you speak in somewhat laymen's terms. I apologize in advance if I frustrate anyone :)

You can script that using netdom.exe: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/298593/en-us
For the DNS records, their updates should be done automatically if you have Dynamic Updates enabled on the DNS level. As for stale DNS records, they will be removed automatically if aging and scavenging is already configured.

  • HT1373 If I know I have deauthorized all computers, what do I do if I still cannot authorize?

I have gone to all the comnputers I do not want authorized for iTunes and deauthorized them. When I log on to a new computer to authorize, it states I can only authorized 5 computers.  I do not want to deauthorized all computers associated with this ID so is there another option to see what actual computers are authorized?
    Thanks!

    Open itunes
Click the word Store at the top of your computer screen

    Hi all,
I was getting messages that my Aperture Library was full, so made an appointment at my closest Mac store, but have to wait 2 days. They advise you to update saoftware before coming in, so I updated to Aperture 5.3.1. When I open it, I'm asked to update my library. When I select that option, I'm told that my library is full. Now I can't access my library at all. What should I do to access my library? Do I have to uninstall 5.3.1 and reinstall an older version?
Another problem I have recently encountered ... all the up and down scrollers on various screens have disappeared. They reappear fleetingly when I use my up and down arrowa, but I can't always catch them. How do I get my scrollers back?

Thank you so much for your patient guidance and screen captures.
    You are welcome.
My external hard drive is properly formatted for Aperture, so I am currently copying my Aperture library to it. That will take hours since it is copying 101 GB.
    o.k.
I understand that I need to clean some space on my internal hard drive and reformat the Aperture library to get back in operation.
You need to upgrade the Aperture library to be used with Aperture 3.5.1.  That will happen automatically, when you first double click the copied lirary to open it in Aperture.
I'll also need to back up my external drive with a new external drive if I make space on my internal drive by removing some photos from there and store them on my current external drive.
What do you use for backup? If you are using TimeMachine it is better to have only the Time Machine backup on the Time Machine drive . In that case would I put the Aperture library and other data on a new drive and keep the old drive for backup.

    Hi Thomasjewell,
Yes you can avail the discounted prices even you are upgrading the product just for two users. You can use the serial number for your Creative Suite 5 product.
You can follow the link: https://creative.adobe.com/plans in order to purchase Creative Cloud for Teams product.
Let me know if it works or not.

  • What are the consequences of De-Authorizing all computers.

I've had an iTunes account for years and its only fairly recently that i've been a bit more aware of the authorizing of computers.
I've hit my limit of 5 but 3 of these are computers that i no longer own and don't have access to. I have made purchases, have an iPod Touch with Apps. What are the consequences of De-Authorizing all computers.
Will it cause me problems with my purchased content and registration of my iPod Touch (don't want to lose any content) or is it just a case of providing my apple id when first listening to purchased content.

You won't physically lose anything. You will just need to reauthorize the computer(s) that you actually have.
    Best of luck.

I got a chance to look at it on a PC.  Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC.  It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders.  Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted.  Whatever it is, IE does not like it.  Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

  • HT1420 What will the screen show when I deauthorize all computers?   Will it show them and then I select the ones to authorize?  I don't want to undo or be unable to re-authorize the ones I still want.

"What will the screen show when I deauthorize all computers?  "
Nothing.  Not sure what you mean.
" Will it show them and then I select the ones to authorize? "
    No.
You have to authorize a computer from that computer.  You cannot authorize a computer from another computer.

and what the difference  between wake on lan and out of band service point role

Hey!!! I am a 1E engineer and MVP... we started the power management movement with our very first software product, created around 12 or so years ago, called 1E WakeUp. The complete solution which manages power on (integrated with SCCM, or stand alone if
you are not an SCCM shop) and power off (under a tightly controlled process) is called
    NightWatchman
    Here is a
recent blog post I authored that was the last in a series documenting the entire wake-up process including how it integrates with SCCM or stood up standalone. It contains links to those earlier posts that explain our entire technology, so you will likely
want to read all of them in order for a full understanding of our technology. It works incredibly well, is the most mature solution in the industry, and is extremely simple to install with minimal resources.

Since yesterday all my usual .xls files will not open (Office for Mac 2011). CAN open .xlxs files. Default 'open with' is Microsoft Excel.app. No software updates done yesterday or the day before (or maybe a Silverlight or an Acrobat one by accident?). Have repaired disc permissions. HHD name is still same as it always was. What next? Thanks
PS I'm not a great techie so assume I don't know what you're talking about!

You may need to rebuild permissions on your user account. To do this, boot to your Recovery partition (holding down the Command and R keys while booting) and open Terminal from the Utilities menu. In Terminal, type:  ‘resetpassword’ (without the ’s), hit return, and select the admin user. You are not going to reset your password. Click on the icon for your Macs hard drive at the top. From the drop down below it select the user account which is having issues. At the bottom of the window, you'll see an area labeled Restore Home Directory Permissions and ACLs. Click the reset button there. The process takes a few minutes. When complete, restart.

  • Want to upgrade iMac os x 10.5.8. suggestions as to what next best version I should go to?

Want to upgrade iMac os x 10.5.8. suggestions as to what next best version I should go to?

If it is a PPC iMac (G4 or G5) Leopard 10.5.8 is as far as it can go.
If an Intel iMac, read on:
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes.
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

I have an iPod touch 2nd generation and my touch screen doesn't work, at all. What should I do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. I say not worth it for a 2G
    Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following maybe less. Google for more. Again, likely not worth it for a 2G
iPhone Repair, Service & Parts: iPod Touch, iPad, MacBook Pro Screens
Replace the screen yourself if you are up to it
