Renaming a device

Is it possible to rename a device with iTunes. I have 2 IPads and want to call them different things. Unfortunately I might have missed the chance to do this when first syncing.
thanks

Double click on the name on teh left side of iTunes and type a new name.

    Hello marthadp
The article below will assist with renaming your device in either iTunes or from within the device itself.

  • How to rename registered devices on Profile Manager

When we use the Profile Manager for our iPad control, we can not select the each iPad to rename them . Is there any way we can rename the devices in Server side? Would you advise us how we can configure in Server side for allowing to rename them?
    We use OS X:10.9.5/iOS:8.1/Server:3.2.2

You can only rename supervised devices with the profile manager.
All other devices will not show the Rename option at the Devices section.
The users can rename the devices and the new name will be shown after executing "Update Info" at the profile manager. I don't know any other way, with the exception of using the Apple Configurator.

I've just seen this message for the first time and it's showing on 10 devices.
What I really love about Apple Configurator is the copious amount of context driven help offered to you.

  • Renaming a Device on iTunes

    Hi All!
I recently got an iPhone 5 and was restoring it from my last back up when I noticed that it's still labelled as iPhone 4 but other than that everything seems to be working OK. iTunes recognizes it as an iPhone 5 and all that it's just that the name of the device is still iPhone 4.
As the title of this thread suggests, what can I do in order to rename my device so it comes out as "iPhone" on iTunes rather than "iPhone 4"?
    Thanks.
Hope to hear from you all soon.

Thanks Chrisfromgastonia! You beat me to it but we pretty much have the same solution!
    Update!
I think I can change the device's name by going to Settings > General > About > Name
I'll try it out later once all the data is back in, don't want to chance crashing this process now.

  • Renaming a device with DLMS

I see from the list of functions available that there is one called "renameDevices". I have been unable to make this work. I tried setting the CDATA with CSV Version 3.0 formatted data (includig the device_identity of the device I wanted to rename), but no luck. What is this function expecting? Also, the "addDevice" function wants CSV Version 2.0 formatted data. This does not include the IP address. Is there any way to add a device and set the IP address? I am using RME 4.3.1

Well that is unfortunate. Remote management of the DCR via web servlets was one of the features I had hoped to use to integrate updates to CW from our change management system. I saw that you could add devices via dcrcli, but I didn't see any way to specify a bulk import csv file. What is the syntax/technique for that?
I also had issues trying to delete devices via the command line. When I tried to delete devices I got an error about other apps managing those devices. I can delete them from RME from the command line, but not from Campus Manager. Is there any way to delete devices unconditionally? Also, are you aware of a bug that results in the shadow configuration file not getting the new new name when devices are renamed (either from the command line or the gui)? I stop/restart the ConfigMgmtServer to correct, but that is a pain.

  • Rename Bluetooth Device on an iPhone 3GS

    Hi,
I have two Blueant S1 Handsfree Bluetooth devives - one in my car, the other in my wife's car. Both devices have been successfully synched to the iPhone, but they have the same device name BLUEANT S1.
On my wife's Samsung phone it is possible to rename BLUEANT S1 to something more meaningful, however I have not been able to find how to do the same in my iPhone.
Does anyone know how to rename a Bluetooth Device which is paired to an iPhone?
    Thanks,
    Stephen

You need to consult the directions for the device you're trying to pair to. You need to put it back in pairing mode and pair just the way you did the first time.

I'm so sorry for that reply i have just read what i wrote and that is useless, all i can think of is if you right click on your device in ''my computer'' and then click on properties and change the name of you device that way.

  • Sky Go - device registration limit hit by renaming a device

Hi  I tried to register my wife's new tablet to sky-go however I was unable to do so as 4 devices were already registered.  The manage device feature said that I could remove a device, however the devices were all named the same with the difference of an additional number.  So I removed all the devices and wanted to re-register them but renaming as I did so.  However once I registered one of the devices and renamed it, I can not register any more devices.  I now have 3 free spaces which I can not use for another month.  No where on the mange device page did it warn me of this problem. Can you please rectify this error so that I can make full use of my SkyGo package.

We are only allowed to register one device per calander month so you will be able to register a second one tomorrow.

  • How do I rename a device in the Finder window?

I have several computers in the house. When I am sharing the devices on my network, my newest one, a MacBook Air, seems to be named as a MacBook, probably because the transfer method of files from my older MacBook when I set it up ended up keeping the account info, including the name. It's confusing for me to see "Jenny's MacBook" and "Jenny's MacBook (2)" as the names of these two devices. Is there a way to change the name of my MacBook Air to make it unique and frankly, more accurate?

Found the answer after digging a little in the Apple Discussions--use the Sharing Preference window under System Preferences. The device name can be changes there.

  • Can not use SSH after renaming the device - 3640 Router

Used SSH to change the device name, wrote the config and logged out of the box. When I attempted to use SSH to get back into the box, it would not connect. I removed the old keys and I attempted to create a new key, but I keep recieving this error message "Signature Creation Failed Status -1" Any suggestions?

    Duane,
You are running into Bug ID CSCsa83601.
    Workaround:
Set the key pair name to the key name, as shown in the "show crypto key mypubkey rsa".
    ip ssh rsa keypair-name
    Example:
    test#show crypto key mypubkey rsa
% Key pair was generated at: 13:31:48 UTC Apr 8 2005
    Key name: test.example.invalid
    Usage: General Purpose Key
    Key is not exportable.
    Key Data:
    xxx
% Key pair was generated at: 13:32:28 UTC Apr 8 2005
    Key name: test.example.invalid.server
    Usage: Encryption Key
    Key is not exportable.
