Renaming Albums

I have a Sony CD player that holds 400 CDs. When I record them in iTunes, I want to add a number (like #234) into the title. It's great for searching too.
How to I rename a title of a CD?
Also, if I rename the title, will I have problems finding title art, etc.
Thank you.
David

My suggestion would be to import the CD as normal making sure the "Automatically download missing album artwork" preference is checked in your General Preferences for iTunes.
After the artwork is in place you can change the album title by:
Highlighting all of the songs in the main iTunes window and selecting File > Get Info or CMD-I, then type in the album title you want and Enter.
If you haven't explored the Get Info [CMD-I] dialog box, you should. You can change information for single tracks or change multiple tracks at the same time.

I cannot locate the tools mentioned in the manual for deleting or renaming albums in the Photos App for Ipad2

What version of iOS do you have on your iPad ? If you have iOS 5+ then you should get an Edit button at the top right of the Album selection screen which allows you to create albums and delete those new albums - you can't directly delete albums that were synced from your computer, you have to remove those from your sync list and re-sync in order to delete those.

  • ITunes 7 - cannot rename albums

anyone else having a problem renaming albums?

just a though, and simple one at that, but maybe you should try to change he album name directly by clicking on the track and then pausing before clicking the album name. this should allow you to edit the name of the album right on that window instead of opening the info window. Hope this works!

  • How to rename albums purchased through the itunes store?

Hello, I am having problems renaming albums that I purchased through itunes.  I bought the Black Sabbath Complete Studio Albums 1970-1978 and the Rush Complete Mercury years or whatever it is.  Anyway, the album titles are all listed as the same, every Black Sabbath album is called "Complete Studio Albums 1970-1978" and the same for the Rush albums.
Every time I go in and manually change the album names, when I close and reopen itunes it decides to rename them all "Complete Studio Albums 1970-1978"
Anyone know if there is some setting in itunes or possibly something in the file properties I can change to keep this from happening? Sifting through my ipod and having 8-10 albums under the same album name is the issue here that I am desperately trying to resolve.
    Thanks,
    -Patrick

  • Renaming Albums'Files

Having downloaded an mp3 file from Amazon I want to give it my own name on my Zen X-fi, because the Amazon name doesn't include the name of the artist. I have copied it to the Music folder on my pc and renamed it, then copied it to the Zen. I have copied each track individually to a new file in Music with a totally different name, then copied that to the Zen, Whatever I do it retains the Amazon Album name.
    Anyone now why?

There may be some inconsistency in the capitalizations, or some of the tracks may be marked as Disc 1 of 1 while others are Disc <Blank> of <Blank>  See Grouping tracks into albums for more details.

  • Get Info Renaming Albums

I can highlight an entire album, I can rename the album, but iTunes will not show new name on the list. When I select a song, iTunes tells me it cannot locate the tune. I believe I have over 50 albums and over 700 songs where this is a problem. I have tried to uncheck the Read-Only section in the Windows profile, but it will not stay unchecked. I need a way to rename my albums to match their names that were created in Windows AFTER I ripped them into iTunes. I did this because there were over 40 albums listed in a Compilations Folder in Windows that created an extra step for my Digital Music Server. How do I select an album in iTunes, rename it, and tell iTunes where that album is located without doing this one song at a time?

If you renamed the folders on your hard drive, the easiest way IMO to get them back into iTunes is to add the folder again. HOWEVER, you'll lose information in iTunes that isn't embedded in the file itself (playcount, ratings, etc.)

  • I Have duplicate tracks since I renamed Album names

My Library contains track that I have ripped from my CD's and tracks which I have purchased from iTunes over the years and reciently after updating to iTunes 11 with ICloud I noticed that I have duplicate tracks on many of the iTunes purchased tracks, I am fairly sure this is happening because I renamed several artist names after the purchase from iTunes. I do this because If I don't the album would not be grouped with others from the same artist. for example Grand Funk & Grand Funk Railroad. I would chose one and edit others to match so all grand funk would display together. When ICloud checks my library I believe it sends me the tracks again thinking they are gone but they are not. so I end up with dupes thet take space and time and bandwidth and confusion. There are other similar group names and this is becoming a bother. Is there any solution? What about disabling iCloud? But if I do that I lose the benefits of iCloud
    Thanks

Is thera simple rule of knowing which of these should be kept?
I'd first of all look for the audio quality of the files - sample rate, bitrate and keep the files with the highest quality. Then look at the tags you added; keep the files where you have set comments and grouping tags. And if you still have more than one file to keep, keep the ones with a simple cloud, that have been successfully uploaded, not the crossed out inelligible files or duplicate files.

  • How can i rename album titles already listed at itunes store ?

    greetings.
i'm an indie artist being told the names of my albums have to be changed to comform to the new itunes store standards or have them removed.  this is really ridiculous because one of my existing albums already has the formatting it was submitted as and yet i'm still being told the other two albums must be renamed.
the first album title is listed as : "single of the month club - volume one alt mixes"
it is precisely as i intended it to be named.
the second album title arrived as : "single of the month, vol. 2"  but it should have been "single of the month club - volume two alt mixes".
the "-" was replaced by a "," and the word "volume" was truncated to "vol." and the word "two" was replaced by the number "2" and the "alt mixes" portion was removed completely.
the third album title arrived as : "single of the month club, vol. three (alt mixes)" but it should have been "single of the month club - volume three alt mixes".  the "-" was replaced by a "," and the word "volume" was truncated to "vol." and "alt mixes" is wrapped in parenthesis for some reason.
what i'm looking for here is consistancy.  as an artist i should not be made to alter my artistic vision.  there are several existing album titles within the itunes store that contain all these elements that i'm being told i have to change.  if my first album title can exist as intended, then the two subsequent album titles should be allowed to exist as intended.
note: these albums were submitted through cdbaby.com and their reply to the question is : "The formatting guidelines put in place are relatively recent (in the past couple of months), so older projects may have not been adjusted yet by iTunes (generally modifications won't be made unless an album is brought to their attention)."
i have not been able to find any way to contact the itunes store directly for this matter other than through this forum.
    any assistance is greatly appreciated.
    thank you,
    mully

    Hey allaboutlooks,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities! I'd check out the following article, which goes over possible issues with the Mac App Store you may encounter and possible resolutions:
    Troubleshooting the Mac App Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3624
I would primarily try the following steps:
Delete the app that will not open.
    Open the Mac App Store.
Ensure that you are logged in to the Mac App Store with the same account that purchased the app.
Select the Purchases view from the top of the Mac App Store window.
Find the app and click the Install button beside it.
The app will be installed on the Mac you are using.

  • IPhoto: Naming/Renaming Albums

I am having difficult entering names for photo albums in iPhoto. Once I create a new album ("untitled album"), I lose my ability to change the name of the album before I can enter it. Once I bring the edit box back up, I can typically enter between 1 - 3 characters of the name before the box goes away again. This only occurs in iPhoto. Is anyone familiar with this problem? Thanks.

You mean the title box closes before you're able to replace the text like in this screenshot, right?
In that case try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • Album Shuffle Doesn't Work Properly When Albums Have The Same Name

I'm using the latest versions of iTunes 7.0.2 and 5.5G iPod v1.2.1, but this problem has existed in (as far as I know) all iPods to date. It certainly still continues to occur on the latest iPod.
Example of the problem: I have many Albums by different Artists. I listen to them on my iPod by using "Album Shuffle" which plays the contents of an album in sequential order, but successive albums in random order. This is good when it works. However, iTunes and iPod have a problem when more than 1 album has the same name. So, let's say you have 3 albums by 3 different groups (Band A, B, and C), all called "Greatest Hits". The expected behaviour is that "Greatest Hits by Band A will play tracks 1-10, then another random album, and then sometime later, the album "Greatest Hits" by Band C will play tracks 1-15. That would be good, but this does not happen. Here's what actually happens:
    Some Album / Band X / Track 14
    Some Album / Band X / Track 15
    Some Album / Band X / Track 16
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 1
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 2
    Greatest Hits / Band B / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band C / Track 3
    Greatest Hits / Band A / Track 3
... (until all "Greatest Hits" tracks by Bands A, B, and C have finished)
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 1
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 2
    Another Album / Band Z / Track 3
As you can see, the iPod treats all 3 "Greatest Hits" as one humungous album. Now, until version 7, even iTunes appeared to be pretty confused about this, but with the latest version added the "Album Artist" tag (which I've applied correctly to all tracks in my Library), so that it can identify albums as separate entities properly, even if they have the same name. (This was necessary for Cover Flow to work.) Sadly, this logic has not made it to the iPod, and we still have the crazy playback situation above.
Since the first day I bought my first iPod back in 2002, I've always used Album Shuffle, and this has always been a problem. I was surprised to find that even the latest iPod still hasn't fixed this, even though iTunes seems to have. Apple, please could you fix this?
    iPod 5.5G, iTunes 7.0.2   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
Power Mac G5 Dual 2.3 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

BTW, I'm not looking for workarounds that involve renaming albums. What if I have 158 "Greatest Hits" albums?

  • How to fix split albums?

Lots of my albums in iTunes end up split. For instance, 8 songs will be listed in one album, the other two in their own individual albums.
I've done the fixes that I normally see:
    - choose PART OF A COMPILATION, save.
    - rename album name for all, save
    - make sure sort-by options are all the same (or uncheck them)
None of these issues seem to fix it. Most of the fixes I see are for iTunes 7 and 8. Are there any new fixes out there nowadays?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • How to stop Windows iTunes from spontaneously creating new folders with duplicate copies of songs, and renaming existing folders?

I've recently started using iTunes regularly to import CDs. Since then, I've found my Windows 'My Music' folder is behaving in bizarre ways.
I like to organise most of my music in folders by Genre --> Album title, without paying attention to Artist. I also like to rename certain album folders (and the Album name in each track's metadata as well, so that each album/folder remains consistent), and also to create customised 'mix tape' album folders. I just want to use Windows Explorer / My Computer to manage this; I don't want to do it via iTunes. I just want to use iTunes for initially getting the music from CD to computer.
Previously, when I was using Windows Media Player to import CDs, if Windows Media Player placed an imported CD under a folder category I don't use, such as Artist, I would just manually move the Album folder and delete the empty parent Artist folder. However these days iTunes is spontaneously creating an entire series of Artist folders, even for tracks and albums that were already on my computer, and is placing duplicate track files into them. Additionally, it's renaming albums for folders and tracks I've customised, turning album titles back into their original values. This is happening even though the destination for newly imported/downloaded iTunes tracks is not the My Music folder itself, but rather another folder within that one. I've had a look at Preferences --> Advanced and the 'Keep iTunes media folder organised' and 'Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library' boxes are already unchecked, so it's not related to that anyway. How do I get iTunes to leave my folders alone?

First off see this user tip so should any further unwanted changes happen you have a chance to revert to your original layout.
It is not unknown for AV software to interfere with iTunes and corrupt its configuration files. If this happens iTunes can revert to the default settings to "Keep..." & "Copy...". Deselecting those options won't return any files to their original paths.
If you have "Show iTunes in the Cloud Purchases" enabled under Edit > Preferences > Store that can lead iTunes to download the original metadata for any of your purchases and show that instead of any edits you may have made to it. Turing that option off and restarting iTunes may reveal your version of the metadata.
There is another option under Edit > Preferences > Store that reads "Share details about your library with Apple" although I don't think that changes metadata in the way that the similar option in Windows Media Player does. Double-check your settings in Windows Media Player (Options > Library) to make sure it isn't set to "Retrieve additional information from the Internet". This is usually the cause of spontaneous tag resetting. WMP can be called into life in the background when visiting certain websites and it has a lazy cache, meaning it can sometimes write out metadata to your media files long after the data was originally acquired.
It is also work noting that mp3 files may contain multiple tags and iTunes, for one, treats these unpredictably. In some cases it may appear to accept and write out a tag change only to later read back the original unchanged data from another copy of the tag.

  • Why do some tracks not get added to my albums? how to fix?

    Hi guys
First post so easy on the noob
When I import CD's into itunes it often doesn't recognise the album name so won't import artwork.
However if I edit the album and give it a different album name or artist etc it will often pickup the correct artwork. But when I do this it often drops tracks of of the album playlist.
So I import say 15 tracks and all are named correctly but no artwork is found. I rename album and yay, I now have the artwork but now only 4 of the 15 tracks are showing when I open the album to see the playlist.
The tracks kicked from the album get moved to the unknown album folder, so the question is what do I have to edit or what do I have to do to get them back in the right album folder where they belong?
    I hope someone can help.
    Thanks
    Tad

    Hi, welcome to Apple Discussions.
See http://samsoft.org.uk/iTunes/grouping.asp - the unknown album issue seems to be a intermittent problem when Use Album Artists is enabled. Close and reopen iTunes and it should sort things out.

  • Itunes merging multiple albums together when it shouldnt be,

Help!!!!!!!!! my itunes has merged all my jojo albums and i cant seperate them again, even if i select indivivual tracks and get info, and rename album title, it still just holds it all together
    anyone pleaseeeeeeeeee help lol

Make sure all the tracks have the exact album name and artist name. Select all the tracks on an album, Get Info and look at these fields. If the field is blank, it means the info doesn't match on all the tracks. Type in the correct info. Also check Disc X of X and see that it's the same. If they still don't group, fill in the Album Artist (different from Artist) field with the same info on all tracks.

See HT203206: iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues.
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.
