Renaming Application Server Instance

Is it possible to rename an application server instance? If so how? For example, if I have an application server instance called INFRA.host.domain.com, I need to rename the host to host2, so I therefore want the application server instance renamed to INFRA.host2.domain.com.
Can this be done without a re-install?

Hi Brian,
Changing the host name for an infrastructure node will not work. Check out chapter 8 (Changing Network Configurations) of the admin guide for more info.

/Mathias

    HI,
    Thanks for your reply.
    You're right, if the installation unable to create the user and folder in the node2 means... your suggestion is applicable but I crossed those phase... I'm in the phase of "Install Instance basics of J01".
    Do you need to do the copy and paste method, eventhough we're in Install Instance basics of J01 phase.
    suggest...

  • The Application Server Instance is down - but it's NOT

    Hi everyone,
    Just yesterday, I installed the agent on a server that is running Oracle Forms and Reports Servers. In OEM, it shows that "The Application server instance is down", but when I go to the main screen for this OAS, all of the components are up. I wish I could include a screenshot to show you, but it looks like I can't.
    What could be causing this? Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?
    Thanks,
    Brad

  • Two Application Server Instances on one Soalris Machine

    Hi,
    I've two Application Server Instances, 9.0.2 and 9.0.4 on one Solaris box. Can anybody tell me how I can change the port number of the Oracle Enterprise Manager?

    IN part because the host and port information is threaded in a LOT of different files. And, if you are farming, some of those files are inside the repository database.
    This was partially addressed in the Oracle AppServer 10g R1 (9.0.4) - using the 'change' scripts.

  • How to find out the application server instance name?

    Hi,
    I installed an Oracle application server a long long while ago and completely forgot the things about the installation, including the name of the instance (I installed single instance, not cluster). Now I am trying to create a connection to the application server and I am prompted to fill in the instance name. Where in the installation can I find out the instance name?
    The version of the server as displayed when the server is started:
    $ ./oc4j -start
    Starting OC4J from /oraInventory/j2ee/home ...
    09/10/08 16:04:39 Oracle Containers for J2EE 10g (10.1.3.2.0)  initializedThis 10.1.3.2.0 number is somewhat confusing. As I understand it, right now if you download a copy of the Application server from Oracle web site, the current version is 10.1.3.1.0.
    I am also reading the installation guide now and when looking at the server starting messages on the screen, I realize that installing the server in the oraInventory directory is not quite right. Does that interfere with the correct functioning of the server? I installed it but have never tried to use it until now.
    Many thanks for your help!

    grep 'IASname' $ORACLE_HOME/config/ias.properties

    Regarding the version numbers, this fourth digit refers to the Component-specific release number. The OAS documentation says this about it.
    "This digit identifies a release level specific to a component. Different components can have different numbers in this position depending upon, for example, component patch sets or interim releases."

    NewmanI think Oracle software should always be installed in a separate directory. I think it may also generate errors in its functioning but it will certainly create a whole lot confusion and mess in later administration and configurations.
    hope that helps!

  • Manual JNDI lookup for EJB3 between different Application Server Instances

    Hi all,
    i have spent quite some time looking into this problem and searching the net but i just can't figure out for the life of me what i am doing wrong so i hope someone here can give me a clue or a good resource where i can look it up myself.
    I am currently doing some interoperability tests concerning EJB calls between Glassfish and Weblogic 10. In my test setup i have an EJB deployed in a jar file on one server and a servlet in a war file deployed on the other. The objective is to try to look up and call the EJB from the servlet. As there seem to be some issues with injection in Weblogic 10 i set that one aside for now (i have opened a case at BEA support for this) but i would like to do a plain old JNDI lookup to obtain the EJB.
    The online tutorials and FAQs i have read so far all state that this can be done the same way as it works for EJB2.x, at least if i understood them correctly. The interessting thing is, when i deploy an EJB2.x bean i can look it up without problems, but when i try to do the same with the EJB3 bean the name cannot be found. On the other hand when listing all contents of the JNDI tree in Glassfish from a stand alone application i can see entries for both EJBs of the type java.naming.Reference (in Weblogic i can also see entries for both, but the ones for EJB3 are of some weird internal weblogic types, which i put down as a weblogic problem for now).
    The lookup code for the servlet running in weblogic looks like this:
    Properties env = new Properties();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "weblogic.jndi.WLInitialContextFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "corbaname:iiop:1.2@localhost:3700");
    Object myEjb = new InitialContext(env).lookup("JNDINameDisplayedByContextListing");
    I know that the preferred way would be to have the corbaname put into weblogic.xml/sun-web.xml and just use an InitialContext without an environment to perform the lookup but i wanted to get rid of any additional indirections to pinpoint the source my problem and it should work this way, too. As i said, it works when i target an EJB2.x bean but not with the EJB3 one, so i guess i am doing something wrong there. The jar file contains the interface of the bean annotated with @Remote and the implementation of the interface annotated with @Stateless, i also tried setting the mappedName attribute for the bean and use that name as JNDI name, but that also fails. In addition i added an ejb-jar.xml to the jars META-INF containing the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ejb-jar xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee"
         xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
         xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee
    http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/javaee/ejb-jar_3_0.xsd"
         version="3.0">
         <enterprise-beans>
              <session>
                   <ejb-name>SecurityTest3EJB</ejb-name>
                   <ejb-class>
                        testcase.ejb.SecurityTestBean
                   </ejb-class>
                   <session-type>Stateless</session-type>
                   <transaction-type>Container</transaction-type>
    </session>
    </enterprise-beans>
    But the ejb-name specified there does not show up in a context listing, so i would guess that means the file is ignored or only accessible from within the same application server (note, there is no indication of any problems in the Glassfish log when deploying the jar file).
    This might be just a stupid mistake by me, but i just can't figure it out at the moment, so any advice will be greatly appriciated.
    Thanks, Chris

    I think i stumbled across something now. From some posts it seems to me that the EJB3 spec does not require EJBs to be accessible from a remote location, since this can be achieved by using the @RemoteHome annotation and performing a EJB2.x compliant look up. Is that correct?

    Hi I need one help this is regarding to the oracle 9 application server in this can we create the multiple instances??
    my application was already developed and currently it is working with one instance for this i need to create the another one more instance which is same as existing and my application is web application developed in Forms6i and the db is oracle 9i my requirement is to create one more instance what are all the configuration files need to be modified and please give this info ASAP....

    It is still not very clear. What do you mean by creating "one more instance of the same application in the same application server"? By "application" do you mean another instance of OC4J in same Application Server Instance? If yes, you can do that. I mean you can create another OC4J component in same Application Server Instance without doing another installation. Refer this for details:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A97329_03/core.902/a92171/config.htm#1010793
    If you are looking to create another Application Server Instance out of same installation/binaries (i.e. Oracle Home) than the answer is no. You can not create multiple Application Server Instances out of one Oracle Home. You will have to do another installation in a different Oracle Home and that's how you will get another Application Server Instance.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Apex Listener vs. Oracle Application Server... advantages?

    Are there advantages to installing Apex Listener over using an existing Oracle Application Server instance to serve Apex applications?
    We have an existing application server instance in production. Would introducing Apex Listener and the extra overhead be of any advantage?
    Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

    Hello "Portal Dude",
    Are there advantages to installing Apex Listener over using an existing Oracle Application Server instance to serve Apex applications?APEX Listener introduces some additional features, such as Resource Templates, but lacks some others. Some people might want to migrate from OAS to another JEE Container that doesn't come along with a OHS/mod_plsql. Depending on the JEE Container, you could use AJP for load balancing, avoiding plain HTTP through a firewall, etc.
    Would introducing Apex Listener and the extra overhead be of any advantage?The "extra overhead" may be smaller than you think. If you don't need the HTTP_Server component any longer, but can just deploy APEX Listener on the OC4J of your OAS, you might even save some bytes.
    For several other aspects, there have been a few posts on that topic in the past:
    {thread:id=1100122}
    {thread:id=1555908}
    {thread:id=1594158}
    If there's anything you don't find in either the posts or the documentation, don't hesitate to ask.

  • How to track session IDs for multiple apps in same server instance?

    All:
    We have 2 web applications (for example: app1,app2) running in one app
    server instance (weblogic 5.1). Both of those applications use the same
    cookie name (defined in weblogic.properties ) to keep the HttpSessionID.
    The tricky thing is that if a client logs in to app1 and then logs in to
    app2 with the same web browser, (for example, IE). The app1's
    HttpSessionID kept in the cookie will be overwritten by app2's
    HttpSessionID because they use the same cookie name.
    My question is this:
    Is there a way to specify a cookie name for each application running in
    an application server instance?
    The only way we know of to work around the problem is that we have to
    host the app1 and app2 in 2 different app server instances so we can
    config app1 and app2 to use different cookie names for the
    HttpSessionID. We are curious if there is a better way to do that.
    BTW, We must use Cookie because of the requirement of cluster and load
    balancer.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    Hi Ben,
    Which version of Weblogic are you using??
    In 5.1 sp8 the Cookie names of the Web Apps are different by default.

    In 6.0 you can have different cookie names for different

  • Oracle Application Server 10g/Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g

    Hi folks, This question related to migration/upgrade of Oracle Application Server infrastructure.
    I see that the Oracle has come up with Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g. Is it the next release of Oracle Application Server 10g. I have the following questions. Appreciate if any one can provide answers to the following questions. Please correct me if my understanding of these oracle products is not right! Thanks
    1. What is the future of Oracle Application Server?
    2. Is it Oracle Fusion Middleware(OFM) 11g is the upgrade path if one need
    to upgrade?
    3. Is it expected that expected that customers need(if require) to move to OFM 11g?
    4. Does OFM 10g comes with Oracle Application Server? If not what does
    it comes with?
    5. If it does not, what about customers having applications built using oracle forms and reports? Does OFG 11g
    support Oracle forms and reports?
    I understand that OFM 10g comes with Oracle web logic server!
    Thanks in advance.
    movva

    To run Forms and Reports in Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g you have to use the distribution "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer" in the FMW 11g software pack.
    The structure of what we used to call "the application server" has changed a bit however, in the following way:
    - In 11g you need to install the Javaserver WebLogic software (version 10.3.3 for the current Forms 11g version 11.1.1.3) first.
    In 10g the installation of the Javaserver (OC4J) was part of the App server install.
    Note that you just have to install the software, the configuration script for creating a Forms app server instance creates the WebLogic domain (comparable with the OC4J instance) for you.
    - In 11g the Fusion Middleware software installation is separate from the creation of an application server instance.
    This is more convenient and comparable to Oracle database and Weblogic installation.
    - The Fusion Middleware Configuration script installs two parts of the product: 1. A WebLogic Domain. 2. A Fusion Middleware instance.
    The first contains everything related to Java, such as the servlet configuration file (formsweb.cfg), while the latter contains everything that has less to do with the Javaserver
    - No more Infrastructure server
    The Infrastructure server does not exist anymore. If you want to use Single Sign On with Forms/Reports 11g you can install Identity Management 10.1.4.3 (or use Identity Management 11g, and configure separately the 10.1.4.3 Single Sign On) or keep your old 10g Infrastructure installation.
    During installation you just have to specify you want to use OID and SSO and it configures out of the box.
    Under normal circumstances the same licenses apply to 10g and 11g (as long as you do not use WebLogic for other purposes).

  • [XI 3.1] Deployment problems to Oracle Application Server

    Hello everybody.
    I'm new on BO products, and i have problems with installation on Oracle Application Server 10.1.3
    BuildVersion=12.1.0.882.BOE_Mira_RTM
    I have success installed OAS 10.1.3 (with patch 10.1.3.3.0), and when i'm installing BO following documentation, after installation no any BO applications in OAS found. This is first.
    Then i attempt install BO applications (CmcApp, AdminTools, etc...) manualy... I have success installation of CmcApp, but when try it to run, i get error ([logon_error_attach|http://www.sendspace.com/file/u8gyoj]), page with logo BO, but logon form (logon.faces) could't be found... i think *.faces on OAS does not work/support, it must be something like *.jsp, *.jspx, but not *.faces, or i must configure OAS in special way.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks, Evgeny.
    Spasibo)
    p.s. With Tomcat which comes with BO all works fine.
    from documentation
    To use a Java web application server, select Java Web Application
    Server and choose one of the following options:
    Automatically deploy to a pre-installed Web Application Server.
    This will prompt you to enter the configuration and authentication
    information on the next screen.
    Admin is Secure?: Select this option to use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption for authentication.
    Note:
    If Admin is Secure? is not selected, you will still have to specify the username and password to access the server.
    u2022 Port: Administration port of the application server (for example u201C6003u201D). This should be the request port of the <notification-server> element in the opmn.xml file.
    u2022 Username: User with administration rights to the application server.
    u2022 Password: Password for account with administration rights to the application server.
    u2022 Server Instance: Name of the Oracle Application Server application server instance (for example u201Chomeu201D).
    u2022 Server Name: Name of the target application server (for example, u201Cmyserver.domain.comu201D).
    u2022 Group Id: Name of the server group to which the target application belongs (for example "Default_group").
    u2022 Application Server Installation Directory: The directory where the web application server is installed
    (for example C:\product\10.1.3\OracleAS_1).

  • Problem Deploying Oracle PDK Portlet to Oracle Application Server 9.0.4.0

    I have a big issue trying to deploy a pdk portlet I have created in JDeveloper (10.1.2). The application is very simple, it consists of 2 JSP's (call them Select.jsp and Display.jsp) and 1 Java Class (Call it DoEverything.java).
    The architecture of the system is VERY simple. The Select.jsp is a simple drop down list that is embedded in an html form, with the options in the drop down populated by a method call from DoEverything.java. Once the user selects an option and hits submit, he is sent to the Display.jsp, which is a simple html table that is populated by another method call from DoEverything.java. (Basically the whole system is a simple "view" of a given table in a DB based on the option selected in Select.jsp).
    The system works perfect in JDeveloper, where I created it using the Oracle PDK Java Portlet wizard. However I'm running into a problem when I try and take it over to the Application Server. The main documentation I have been following is the: Oracle® Application Server Portal Developer's Guide and in particular the section 6.6.2.4.1 Creating a Connection to Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE where it explains how to connect to the App. Server. The line "The steps that follow describe the procedure for deploying to a standalone instance of Oracle Application Server Containers for J2EE. For information about deploying to a full Oracle Application Server instance, please refer to the Oracle JDeveloper online Help system." is the one that is bothering me the most as I am trying to deploy to a full instance of the Oracle Application Server, but I cannot find anywhere that walks me through this in the online JDeveloper help.
    Anyway, currently we ftp the appropriate JSP's, Java Class, provider.xml and provider properties files to their respective directories on the Application Server, register the provider and reboot the Http Server. (This has worked before except for the fact that when the user selected an option from the Select.jsp and the request was then sent over to the Display.jsp based on the form action the Display.jsp wasn't recognized. We figured the provider.xml file needed to be edited in this case in order to know where Display.jsp was being kept). In any event nothing seems to be working at the moment and my main concern is that it maybe we should be deploying as EAR/WAR (both of which I'm not super familiar and my second main concern is that it seems most people use JavaBeans and Struts and all sorts of different API's whereas here I just have a fairly simple Java Class back end that connects to the database and creates an object based on the attributes contained in the database (1 object for 1 unique row in the DB) and I want to be sure that the way I have developed this should still work with the Oracle AS. I'm hoping its just a matter of getting the directory structure straightened out and editing the provider.xml file to include all the JSP's.
    Sorry for the long post, but if you could address my two main concerns and possible give me or point me towards a good thorough walk through of deploying a simple system (oracle pdk java portlet) like I have developed to the App. Server it would be greatly appreciated !
    Thanks a lot.

    Basically I started to develop this system inside Oracle AS and then when it came time to passing a request to a new page, it crapped out on me on the App. Server. So instead of trying to fix the problem there and then I continued to develop outside Portal and inside Jdeveloper. After a week or two once all my stuff worked perfectly I try and take it back into Portal but only the first JSP of all my Portlets would show up, because as soon as I would submit a form and the action directed me to a new page and Portal would be lost/confused. Obviously I shouldn't have done it that way but none the less...
    So now I'm reading through the documentation you pointed me towards and it seems I have to qualify my parameters and then "attach" them to the url which the form will pass to the actioned page. I'm importing numerous classes (...urlUtils, etc) in order to qualify the parameters and then build this url without affecting any parameters currently present that my portlet does not own.
    What I'm rambling towards here is all this separation of logic and presentation and the whole nine, implies different people can develop different parts of a 'system' mostly independant of one another...so in my situation I shouldn't in huge trouble yet, since underlying everything is a working system. My issue is with oracle and the App Server. If I take my code which works great outside of the App. Server and I fully qualify parameters and make sure my form actions are constructed using the UrlUtils in order to fully qualify them as well, and then I make sure page parameters are mapped to the proper portlet parameter values....should my system work on the App Server (assuming everything is done properly)....or am I still missing something.

  • Active users on application server portal

    how can i find out the information of active users on portal?
    Please help me

    Hi,
    running 2000 users on one machine is possible, but not recommended. Oracle Application Server works with OC4J instances and each instance can handle a number of Forms Servlet connects. You need to increase the number of OC4J instances to increase teh number of users that can be handled by the server. You can do this either by setting up the number of processes for the BI_FORMS instance using Application Server Control (see the Administration tab and the System properties. The default number is set to 1 and you can change it to e.g. 10 or 15), or by creating a second Forms OC4J instance.
    in real life you want to create additional processes for the BI_FORMS instance and install another Application Server instance on a separate machine that you setup load balancing with. Running 2000 users with Forms on one machine is very unrealistic.
    Please see the Forms capacity planning guide on otn.oracle.com/products/forms for more information
