Renaming copied song need help

I'm importing one song from a different place on my Mac, though I need an identical copy of it in iTunes, but with a different name. I drag the song in twice to iTunes for my 2 copies. I change the name of one, and it affects the other, so I can't get 2 different names. Any thoughts???

To avoid unnecessary duplication, iTunes will not copy a File into the database twice. So what you have is two listings in the database pointing to the same file.
So, make your duplicate in the Finder and rename it there, then copy it in.

Perhaps the damaged file is an auxiliary file outside the app bundle and stored elsewhere on your Mac. Try deleting the app and all it files with an app for that purpose. Afree one is AppCleaner;

Trouble with songs. need help please!

alright, so here's my problem.
last week i tried to put some songs from a cd on my ipod (video 30g). when they were in my library they worked fine but now on my ipod they are not working. if i click on them nothing is happening.
i tried to delete them from my ipod but everytime i select them and hit delete, my itunes (latest version) freeze. i did erase them once before it froze but when i looked on my ipod they were still there. also, everytime i tried to put some new songs (not from the same cd) on my ipod, they go fine in my library but when i transfer them, it says synchronizing but does nothing.
i don't know what to do and i really hope i don't have to restore and lose everything cause i lost everything last week as my hard drive died (i don't know if it can be related tho)
help is needed!!!

thank you but i did tried the basics. after posting my question here i tried a couple of thing and realized that all i could do was a restore. so i tried a restore and when i try it, my itunes doesnt do a thing and stop working. also, the weird thing is, when i look in my cache files for the ipod, no songs is in the folders where they are supposed to be, and when i try to play some songs it just show all the information but skip the songs quickly. so it seems like the information and everythng is still in the ipod but there's no songs in it anymore. so the only thing i'm looking for is for a way to restore the ipod to its original settings without using itunes...

Itunes won't play music - exclamation points by all songs - need help!!

I have been on this board several times and still can't locate the answer to allow me to play my music in Itunes. Here is my situation. If you can help, I would appreciate it.
I have had my Itunes library stored on my external hard drive. I hadn't accessed Itunes in a while and when I did, my music is no longer being recognized by the program. All I get is the exclamation point next to each song and when I click on the song I am asked to relocate the song itself. Since getting the exclamation point no matter what I do short of relocating every song individually (over 4000 songs), I decided to call "apple cares". I had no success with them as they couldn't help.
I have now unistalled/reinstalled my Itunes twice, I have redirected my preferences to my external drive and consolidated my library several times, I have tried to use my older less updated library on my regular hard drive only to have the same exclamation points appear.
I am at a loss as to what I need to do. I really don't want to lose my music - imported from cds or purchased - nor do I want to spend the rest of 2007 relocating each and every song.

I think I figured it out anyway, Windows Media Player might be adding extra information that iTunes does not like, either Windows Media Player and/or iTunes 7.7.1 don't conform to ID3 v2.4 standards...
Please fix your software, Apple. I know how you love to be unique and mock PC users with your one-sided advertisements but at least conform to the ID3 standards.

Brand new at copying DVDs - need help.

Hope that I am in the right forum. I'm brand new at using DVD copying since I've only had this computer for about a week. I've had problems in copying my home video DVDs on DVD+R discs which were created on a Sony DVD recorder. These are obviously not copy protected. I tried making a copy for a friend but ran into problems, phoned Apple and followed their instructions for copying and burning -R discs but that didn't work for me. On my follow up call, they suggested that the problem may be either the +R disc (rather than -R) or the fact that the discs were not burned on a computer but rather on the recorder. They suggested the use of other software. So I searched the web andI downloaded something called Mac the Ripper and using the dialog box in that program, do have the contents of one disc on my hard drive as far as I know. But I don't know how to copy (burn) onto a blank disc either using this same program or something else. In other words, what are my next step by step instructions to burn what I hope I have on the hard drive onto a blank disc - I still have +R discs left so I'll likely be using them. Thanks for any help.

From all the helpful information posted here, I have found out that copying DVDs is not quite as straightforward as I had hoped it would be using my new computer. I would have to purchase software which isn't supplied on my iMac such as Toast or Popcorn to do the job as far as I have found out from a number of sources. Toast is a bit more costly than I want to spend for just this one task although Popcorn is more reasonable. I am beginning to think that for the few DVDs that I really need to copy for my friend, the easiest route is to use my DVD recorder, transfer the contents of the DVD to the hard drive on my recorder (yes, the recorder does have a 160 GB HD) and then burn a blank DVD from the recorder's hard drive which is what I have done dozens of times in the past. Of course, it takes 2 hours to transfer the video from a DVD (assuming it has 2 hours of video on it) to the hard drive and then only about 4 - 7 minutes to burn the video onto a blank DVD from the HD of the recorder. Using the computer, I had hoped to reduce the time it takes for that first 2 hour step with the recorder. I'm not even sure if Popcorn would significantly reduce the time for transferring the video from the DVD onto the computer. I'll have to evaluate whether or not the cost of something like Popcorn is really worthwhile for me. Thank goodness, copying audio CDs is much more straightforward on the computer. ok, guys, i know this off subject, but please help me!
I will like to know if their is a softwear/program that takes songs, and take the words away, just leave the instrument/tune.
If yes, can it be dowladed form the internet?

i think you have to buy the songs that way.....if they are even made like that
my best guess is to look around and see if anyone sells cd's that are like that and you would have to go from there

Moved Songs, Need Help Matching them up the fast Way

Recently i organised my "ITunes Music Folder" with different genre's of music to help me keep it organised because i seemed to never be able to find anything. Once i had moved all my music into various genre folders and then artist folders within them i knew what i dreaded was coming. I didn't wanna have to inport all the files again from the new location because then it would lose "The Play Count" and have ive named them in ITunes. So i have been doing this.
Clicking on song then right clicking "Get Info" then Yes. then My Music > ITunes > Compilations > House > Artist Name > Then eventully finding the song.
This is a extrememly slow process when you have over 2000 songs to match up and i remember a long time ago although i forgot say if your matching up a album instead of going into My Music > ITunes > Compilations > House > Artist Name again it would allready be in the last place i was at so i could just click the song so matching a album would be much faster then going through the long way.
The problem is when i match up the song now i have to go through My Music > ITunes > Compilations > House > Artist Name every time.
Any Advice or help is greatly Appreciated.

There is not a fast way to match them up when you have changed the folder structure that iTunes uses to organize its database folder of iTunes songs.
However, if you reimport them, while you will lose play count, the names you have assigned the songs in iTunes is written to the file's ID tags, and should be retained.

Transfering songs need help

Hey all I honestly don't know if this is a topic on here already or not. don't really have time to look for it.
Anyways to the point, HDD had to be re-formatted and i lost all the music i had bought from the itunes store. I'm currently trying to transfer them from the IPOD to the itunes program but it is only taking 84/155 some of them are just not taking period.
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Missing Songs - Need help

I have about 2000+ songs in my itune after I syn with my iphone (3G, 16GB firware 2.1), I song in my ipod there are only 299 songs (I select songs and at the bottom it shows 299, I didnt count) and occupy about 8GB of storage space.
Why only 299songs and not my entire collection in in my iphone?

Did you search your HD with Spotlight - search for .mp3. That should show you were the tunes are.

Have you had a chance to look at either of these troubleshooting pages? They may be of some help:

Download Helper, even with paid converter upgrade, gives "Invalid Capture File" errors and will not record audio, with "File Creation Error - Unable to rename/copy audio file" Error.

Download Helper Screen Capture worked to capture video if the default "no audio" option is active. But, no audio. The "speakers" or "microphone" audio options are confusing....the audio to be captured is from the video, so what do you choose? With either "speakers" or "microphone" selected, the captured file has poor audio and no video. Re-capture efforts (speakers) get "Invalid capture file error" and "File Creation error- Unable to rename/copy audio file"
The paid upgrade of "Converter" doesn't work.
Instructive documentation - not very good.
Suggestions - Need time delay between initiation of "Record" and starting the video to be recorded.
Could use timer tracking of the record process.
Are there operating system limitations? (Have Windows XP Pro)

I rename a song title, click it & doesnt save the title PLEASE HELP!!!

So I rename a song title since it is not labeled correctly, and then it changed the title, and moves to the alphabetically correct spot, but then if i double click it after it is changed, it automatically changes the song title back to the original one, and then moves the file automatically to the old spot that it was before i changed the title. Does that make sense? Please help! I am finding it very hard when i rename a song, and it doesnt work!
I am working with about 5000 mp3s and its a headache...

View my earlier thread on id3 tag changes not sticking. I think I found the solution:
...These files would not allow the tag version to be changed from v2.4. However, if you ctrl-click->convert id3 tags and select id3 tags version as "none", it will default to v1.1. From there the tag info can be edited and the changes will stick. If you need to you can re-convert the tag version (eg.v2.3) and the edits will still be maintained.

How do you get the sharing taskbar on iTunes? I have it on one computer but not the other and need it to transfer songs! Help!!

Use View > View Options, and set 'Sort By" to "Manual Order."
Then you will be able to drag-n-drop songs up and down the list.

Thank you for responding. So I essentially will never be able to use that button in lightroom 5? do I need to get LR 6? Will there ever be an update for LR 5 that will enable me to use it?
Does DNG Converter work within LR or do I have to upload pictures to my computer and then make a second copy in DNG format. and then go into LR and use them?
