Renaming images in File Panel? (DW-CS4)

I'm looking to rename some images in the Dreamweaver CS4 file panel (on MAC OSX if this matters?) but I am running into some problems with image links not updating. The images are in subfolders ie. "images" / "products" / "image-name.jpg" (again not sure if this matters). I am able to rename the image fine it's just the link on the html page itself that does not get updated.
What am i missing here?

Thanks pziecina for clarifying... very grateful.
This leads me to another question that you may or may not be able to help with as this does not have anything to do with Dreamweaver.
It's regarding proper "naming conventions" for the web...
The only reason i am in need of changing my image names is that I recently heard that it is bad practice to begin a file name with a # / ie: "01-101.jpg". Do you know if this is indeed bad practice and why? Most / all my images are names based on product SKU numbers and they seem to work fine. If there is no good reason / it would save me allot of work to avoid changing these.
Much thanks!http://forums.adobe.com/people/pziecina

    my root folder. What did i do wrong? (fyi: When I was in DW last
    night all my images showed up with no problems)

    are the paths to them site root relative? do they start with

  • How to alphabetize file names in Dreamweaver CS4 files panel?

    Using Dreamweaver CS4, the files in the file panel are no longer alphabetized by name as they have been in all previous versions. This is very frustrating when you have many files and have to scan with your eyes to find various files on an ongoing basis.
    Does anyone know WHY the developers changed this or where I can change the preferences for this?
    Thanks in advanceof your help : )

    I feel silly . I found the answer to my problem in another thread. Clicking the 'Local Files' heading at the top of the files column changes the order. As posted by a user named Alex in another thread, with an image to illustrate where to click:
    Click on the column header highlighted in light blue.

  • Encore cs4 creates invalid disc image (iso file)

    I have a video I edit in premiere cs4, exported an .mpg file that I import into encore to create a DVD. This works mostly fine (I have to delete the .xmp* file before importing to encore).
    Today I edited the video, re-encoded the mpg file using quality 5 and 2 pass vbr, and added a slide show (about 6 photos) to the encore project. It also builds fine to a disc image (iso file). But when I try to burn the iso file using windows 7, it tells me the iso image is invalid. I tried imgburn and got an  error message like this:
    session 1 track 1 MODE1 .... 2054
    dvd format: MODE1 .... 2048
    If I ask imgburn to continue it then says something about CSS and encryption, which I don't use, so I assume the iso file is too messed up.
    I burned a DVD5 directly from encore, and it works in a dvd player.
    Any idea why this invalid iso happens and whether there is a work-around?
    Since cs4 is not the latest version, I assume there is no hope of bug fix?

    There seem to be major problems in the disc creation process. I am struggling since several days now and I am not able to produce a working Blu-Ray Disk or iso image with Encore 5.5:
    - when producing Blu-Ray ISO images, you get an ISO that is recognized as DVD iso in all virtual drive programs. Therefore, you cann not burn them on a BD-R disc, also viewing them is not possible because it is a "DVD with blu-ray content".
    - when burning directly to disk, Encore does not close the sessing. This means, the Disk is not playable on all home Blue-Ray players. It was playable on my computer, but after closing the session manually the disc was a coaster.
    - when burning on a virtual burner (Virtual CD 10), the Blue-Ray plays ok on my computer, but I am NOT able to make a ISO image from this disk because some errors (unreadable blocks) on the disk are reported during creation and image creation stops.
    - from time to time (not reproduceable), Encore produces an additional AACS folder on the created Blu-Ray.
    I am an experienced user and dont have any issues with other software solutions, but with Encore I was not able to get any usable results so far.

  • How can I organize my files in files panel;images, videos etc?

    I am begining to have a lot of files in my files panel. I have a folder for images but when I put the images there dreamweaver does not know where to find them, even though I specified this when setting up.  I am now begining to get a lot of videos and would like to organize the files a lot better. any ideas?  thanks

    If you already have links to your images and videos, etc., and you want to rearrange them, do it in your Files Panel, not your computer file manager system. Most of your links will remain appropriate, even if you make (in the Files Panel) new folders to store different types of files in. You can drag and organize to your heart's content in the Files Panel.
    You will still want to check your links, as Gary states, but the actual reorganizing...when done with already linked files in the Files Panel...will make the checking less painful and require fewer re-linkings.
    In fact, the only html file that actually NEEDS to remain at the root level is the index.html default file. You can safely store the rest in subfolders. If you have many, many pages, you might consider organizing them into folders and adding index.html pages to each subfolder. Not a copy of your main index file, of course, but 'departmental' default files. That system will also make applying javascript "breadcrumbs," such as those of Kaosweaver, quite simple, as it uses index.html filenames for breadcrumbs.
    You will want to carefully keep files that are auxiliary to Flash and Video files with their Flash and Video files, and be sure to test the links and locations of those files thoroughly. But there's no real reason you can't move them.

  • Custom File Info Panel CS2- CS4

    I have a Custom File Info Panel that has been created in Adobe Photoshop CS2 and works in CS3.  I am having trouble figuring out how to get it to work in CS4.  Is there a way to port the Custom File Info Panel into CS4 without entirely recreating it?
    I am seeing references to FileInfo SDK and creating a new Flex UI but I can't seem to find a definitive method on this pre-CS4 File Info Panel to the new UI - and I am in unfamiliar territory.
    Any assistance or points in the proper direction would be most helpful.
    UPDATE:  Answering at least some of my own questions, I have followed the procedure here:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/gunar/2008/11/customizing_metadata_ui_in_cs4.html
    I am still having some trouble with a couple of the unique properties but I expect that they will be typos... I hope...
    Any good reference information is still welcome.

    Thank you for suggesting the PS Scripting forum but I think the next stop might be the XMP SDK Forum as there are a few similar questions there such as http://forums.adobe.com/thread/540397.  But before I go impolitely cross-posting...
    I've had some success and it appears that my custom file info metadata edited and saved in CS2 is now visible in CS4 and the reverse is also true - metadata edited and saved in CS4 is visible in CS2.  This was built using the Generic Panel from the SDK according to the instructions shown at the link in my original post.
    The only problem is that the external application that relies on the custom metadata doesn't see the CS4 version of the metadata.  I suspect that this is just some general namespace issue.  Perhaps if an XMP expert would be willing to comment on the conversion of the Custom Info Panel based on the following single portion of the metadata to see if I am doing it correctly - I would very much appreciate it.
    In the CS2 Custom Info Panel XML I have this field:
    <panel title="$$$/CustomPanels/XYZ/PanelName=XYZCorp Graphics MetaData" version="1" type="custom_panel">
      group(placement: place_row, spacing: gSpace, horizontal: align_fill, vertical: align_top, reverse: rtl_aware)
      static_text(name: '$$$/CustomPanels/XYZ/fullName=Full Name/Title of Graphic', font: font_big_right, vertical: align_center);
      cat_container_edit_text(xmp_ns_prefix: 'xyzcorp', xmp_namespace: 'xyzcorp', xmp_path: 'FullName', container_type: seq_struct, horizontal: align_fill);
      mru_popup(xmp_ns_prefix: 'twcable', xmp_path: 'FullName', no_check: true, vertical: align_top, container_type: seq_struct, mru_append: true);
      <!-- many more fields -->
    </panel>
    In my CS4 properties.xml the corresponding field:
    <xmp_definitions xmlns:ui="http://ns.adobe.com/xmp/fileinfo/ui/">
    <xmp_schema prefix="custom" namespace="xyzcorp" label="$$$/Custom/Schema/Label=XYZCorp Graphics MetaData" description="$$$/Custom/Schema/Description=CS4 Version of XYZCorp MetaData Custom Panel.">
        <!-- simple properties -->
       <xmp_property name="FullName" category="external" label="$$$/Custom/Property/FullName_Label=Full Name/Title of Graphic:" type="seq" element_type="text"/>
    <!-- many other properties -->
    <ui:separator/>
    </xmp_schema>
    </xmp_definitions>
    It seems that the following CS2 => CS4 translations should be true:
    "xmp_namespace" => xmp_schema namespace property (in this case "xyzcorp")
    "xmp_path" => xmp_property name property (for this one property, "FullName")
    is there another translation that I am missing?  I am betting it has something to do with the CS2 "xmp_ns_prefix" but I am not entirely sure how to map this.  Also perhaps something in manifest.xml (though it didn't seem like it)?
    Many thank you's to anyone that can offer words of wisdom.

  • Renaming files in Bridge CS4

    I forgot to rename my files before processing.  I now have the XMP files for all the CRW images.  If I rename the CR2 files will the XMP files follow the renaming process.
    My main concern is that I may have XMP files for all the CR2 files.
    Thoughts??

  • Moving and renaming image files

    I want to move & rename image files to folders on the hard drive by dragging and dropping them into my application. I read about the problem with renameTo() method with windows. Is this possible to do in java? I heard about a method in which you read,write and delete the old file? How do I go about making this happen?

    Well, what happens if you create the folder C:/Test/testfile1.txt ?
    Or alternatively remove the part that says "testfile1.txt" from the directory path in your program.
    Or alternatively call dir.mkdirs() before trying to rename.
    What I am getting at is that when you create a file with the constructornew File(dir,newdest.getName())the parameter dir is treated as a directory no matter what its name is. If its name is "C:/Test/testfile1.txt," the name of the new file will be "C:/Test/testfile1.txt/name_of_newdest"where name_of_newdest is the name of the "newdest" file. This might not be what you wanted

  • Viewing images in ASSETS panel instead of FILES panel

    When I insert an image into a webpage I get an a dialog box that advises me that the file is outside my root folder.
    The dialog box then asks if I would like to DW to copy the file there now.  I click YES.
    The image is then available for selection from the FILES panel.
    On a Lynda.Com tutorial (and on an ADOBE help file) their images reside in the ASSETS panel.
    When you click-select one of the images in their ASSETS panel you get a preview of the image and the option to declare the image as one of your favorites.
    How do I go about getting my images to show up in the ASSETS panel so that the preview option is available?
    As I said, my files are copied to the root folder automatically by DW.
    Is there a way to select which panel they are copied to?

    Images within your site are automatically available in the Assets panel. They don't even need to be in the default images folder. If the image doesn't show up, click the Refresh icon at the bottom right of the Assets panel.

  • Renaming Images from Text File

    Hello,
    I am trying to rename images in a folder to match the names within in a text file. The names in the text file are all unique, so using a rename batch like example-1.jpg, example-2.jpg, etc. won't work. I have matched the structure between both the name and image file, so I need automator to traverse down the text file and add each unique name to the corresponding image.
    If anyone has some help for this it will greatly be appreciated! Thanks

    I wrote you a shell script that will do the job.
    First, put all your images into a folder (if you haven't already done so). Make a copy of the folder for safety's sake (I tested the script and it should work fine, but it's always good to have a backup).
    Now, make sure each new name in the text file is on its own line. Rename the file to "list.txt" and put it in the same folder as the images (better make a copy of the list, too).
    Now, download this file: http://danielrichman.com/tmp/file_rename.sh
    Put it in the same folder as your images.
    Now, open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal and type the following (without quotes):
    "cd "
    Then open up the Finder window that contains the images. In the title bar of the window, there's a little folder icon. Drag the icon into the Terminal window. (You should see the path copied.)
    Then, in Terminal, press enter.
    Then copy this (and press enter at the end):
    "chmod a+x ./file_rename.sh"
    Then, do this:
    "./file_rename.sh"
    That should be it! Please let me know how it goes.
    Good luck!

  • Is it possible to preview images in the files panel?

    sorry in advance for what probably is a dumb question with a
    simple solution.
    i realize i can preview images in the assets panel-- but is
    it possible to preview image files while in the files panel
    instead?
    i have a lot of images organized within folders in the files
    panel-- so it's easier there to locate and visulalize an image--
    than scrolling down the long list in the assets panel.
    thanks.

    Hello,
    I don't believe there is a way to view images in the files
    panel.
    However, there's a quick way to see them if you're using
    Windows.
    Select your image folder in the Files Panel.
    Right click and choose "Explore".
    It opens a window where you can see all the images in that
    folder.
    It's much faster than scrolling through the assets, clicking
    the file names
    and reading the paths to know where they are.
    This is very handy whether you have image folders in
    different directories
    (for organization and cleaner img src paths in the pages
    within the
    directory) or if you just dump them all in a folder in the
    root.
    On my wishlist: Hover over the image name in the files panel
    and a small
    box, like a tool tip, displays the image.
    Maybe someday.
    Take care,

  • Files panel - CS4 Win vs Mac

    I'm a Mac user for a long time. Recently, I've done some website work on a PC using CS4. Irritatingly, on the PC, the Files panel [ungrouped] remains ontop of the files when opening them. I have to minimize the panel to see the open files. On Mac this was never a propblem in any version of CS or MX and prior for that matter.
    Is there any way to get the same panel behavior on the PC (XP) as the Mac?
    TIA

  • Dreamweaver CS4 Site creation puts unwanted folders from desktop into File Panel Window

    Dreamweaver CS4: My root folder is on the desktop, and everytime I create a new site, inside the Site in the Files Panel it has my folders/files on my desktop in addition to my root folder. How do I prevent this and just have ONLY my project folder in my site folder?
    L Sienna

    I've said it before and I'll say it again.
    Your Desktop is just a folder, but it's not like any other folder on your HD. The more "crap" you keep on it, the slower your system will run, because Windows Explorer (not the browser - the one that opens and manages all of your windows) interacts with it ALL THE TIME so the more stuff it has to go through to run DW, or Photoshop or Windows Media Player or whatever, the bigger the drag on WIndows. The same for Mac OS X and FInder.
    Put your site(s) in their own folder in your documents where the most active folder on your HD doesn't have to constantly update with every letter you type in a page.
